Thanks for the tip,Working front to back.I ran the wire in no time.I would have done it back to front for sure. You saved me alot of cursing and banging.Once i saw the route behind the radio,I remembered your video and knew the hassle you went through.
I took the 7 mil bolt out of the tag light and drill through there but my camera the stud was smaller than 5/16 so it worked out great. Thanks for the vid man
It would have been dope after watching that whole Video you could at least have done a couple of scenes actually backing up and showing the back up camera in use..
No need to remove the rear faicia (at least not in the 2010 crown vic /grand marquis) Just drop the license plate light you will then be able to see an access hole in the sheet metal into the underside of the trunk lid.Drill a 1/4 in. hole in the platic next to the licence plate light and fish the camera wire through. Under the trunk lid , in the center, you will find connector with 3 wires. the Pink-Black wire is the backup light feed. the black is the ground.
Nice video the only problem you gonna have you probably found out about it already. Is at nighttime the reverse light Is gonna put a bad glare on your camera. Making it hard to see so what I did is I put two blinds on both sides of the license plate next to the reverse light or you could Paint the inner reverse light cover or put tape ,that will help
Hey, thanks for the video! The wiring is clean and nicely concealed! I like your idea of starting at the radio and working back to the trunk. You probably know this already, but there's something called a step drill that allows you to make various size holes. They're available from Home Depot and many other places. A Milwaukee 7/8 in. - 1-1/8 in. #9 Black Oxide Step Drill Bit is an example. They come in smaller sizes as well. Was is difficult wiring up the head unit? Were you able to connect it to "reverse" so that it came on when backing up? You've go a cool project going on there!
Bruhh I have the EXACT reverse camera set up, but the major problem is at night. Because of the close proximity of the reverse lamps, and LP lights, the lighting illumination makes it really hard to see at night as they are shining all in front the camera.
Did your camera have a red power wire and black ground wire that needed to be connected to your reverse lights? And did it also have a red power wire and black ground wire that needed to be connected to the head unit along with the yellow cable? Please let me know. Looking forward to hearing from you.
the red wire is your trigger wire and goes on the black/pink wire that controls your reverse lights. the black one is your ground and you need to attach it to a metal part of your trunk with a screw (just drill a small hole first and sand the area to expose the metal). the yellow cable is what attaches to your head unit for video. good luck!
I have a video on installing the head unit. The only trimming I did was the lip on the top and bottom of the cavity where the head unit goes since the one I installed was several inches in depth
I’m not sure if you said what year your car is but I have a 2011 and Took it to a stereo shop do you have this done. I spent a lot of money on the stereo system in my car. Anyway I wanted a screen with a back up camera and was willing to pay up for it. The shop told me that that screen would not fit in my car because of the year. I’m wondering if that was BS or not. It just didn’t make much sense to me but also why wouldn’t the shop wanna make more money? Ya follow? It’s kind of hard for me to put what’s in my head into words lol (Probably result of many concussions lol)
I've been putting doing this off for months in my 2005 Grand Marquis. I was having issues with my headlights triggering my backup light, but only sometimes, especially when the car is cold. So I did the install and I wired into my backup light soldered it and heat shrink, then I found that the camera and lights still work by putting the backup cam into the aux input of unit, but doesn't work ben in the cam input. What wire on the harness do I need to change, the pink
Hey, theres an update for our radio that gets rid of the the distractions message every time we start it up. Wanted to see what my radio looked like in one of these. Pretty cool.

It would have been nice if you included which wire was positive and which was negative when wiring in the camera.
Thank you, this was the exact video i needed to see

I love this idea and that radio as well,
I drive in Chicago and parking here is insane but I still wouldn’t trade my MGM for anything
Same

best video. straight to the point showing how its done. other cvpi youtubers just talk and talk and talk.
It’s hard to find good content for these vehicles & not everyone can afford to make the mistakes to figure it out
Good video, and a lot of good work. Like another comment stated, you should have included the wiring part too. I'll be installing a rear cam today.

You could've actually show the crucial part ESPECIALLY which wire is the reverse signal wire.. 😒
Excellent Video. Very instructive.

The wiring tray on the passenger side of the car usually has lots of room in it because all the add-on police wires have already been removed from it.
When I did mine I didn’t need to drill, this method is pretty invasive but works

I think a nice titanium step drill would of worked better here.
I agree!

Were in Pa you from
your head unit did you have to cut the vents or did you get a shallow unit

You've gotta get creative. I was told by 3 shops my 9" android head unit wouldn't fit my car because there wasn't a mounting bracket, all custom.
So is the camera designed to be off center? Dose this effect the use? Helpful video, good job.
It is a little off center but you are close. Depends on where it is mounted on the rear fascia
Where did you get your center console ? Thanks
eBay. I searched for Crown Vic center console
Nice job
So it doesn't automatically turn on when in reverse, that sucks.
gregory9740 it does but I forgot to mention that part. I will be making another video installing a different camera where I will go over that
What back up Cam you using pioneer?
Great, video, thanks
too much work for a rear cam installation . not for my CPVI.
