As usual, Robert gives really great advice. Here in the U.S., even at luxury eyewear boutiques, many sales people won't take the time to diagnose your eyewear needs. They sell you the most expensive frames but won't explain the differences between lenses. You're a walking ATM. The thing is, you deserve the very best, don't you think? To get the very best, you must be your own advocate. Educate yourself. I've learned so much by watching this channel. Every topic is covered and I often watch the same video multiple times. Ask questions. Learn. Discover. Robert and The Spectacle Factory has you covered.
I made 2/3 mistakes you mentioned on my first pair of glasses 2 years ago with a local optician and now I am doing my research before I get my next set of glasses. Wish you had branches of the Spectacle factory here in the US. I have learned so much from your videos and I am a lot more wise now than I was back then.
I have gained a lot of knowledge and information about independent brands, frame quality, lenses, advantages, and disadvantages of each brand, and additional information with your new video. Thank you, before, Robert. I'm waiting for new videos that are increasingly diverse and interesting.👌
Robert, I totally agree with you 100% each time you say that this channel offers the best eyewear content on the internet! It is indeed a fact and no exaggeration! My knowledge about eyewear increases with every one of your videos I watch! Please ensure that the Spectacle Factory is well fortified against the mob ravaging public and private property at the moment!
Absolutely fantastic video! The insights on common glasses buying mistakes are spot on. I’ve personally experienced the lack of service at many spectacle shops, and your tips are incredibly valuable. Watching the videos in this channel has for me truly provided a clear vision on the subjects-pardon the pun! 😉
And just the tip of the iceberg when your customer wants progressive, or varifocal lenses! I’ve been wearing those for a few years, and it’s worth taking some time for them to work out the detailed setup so that it works well at various viewing angles and the sizing of the lens. If its not quite right, it’s easy to end up with ones head out of balance, or at the wrong angle, for some tasks, e.g.
I work at Specsavers. Our most expensive frame is £170 for rimless which includes a 1.6 lens and anti-glare. The biggest challenge of my job is talking to customers about more stylish frames and better lenses... Customers see the £15 specs or 241 from £70 and gravitate towards that. They complain it sounds like up selling.
Thank you Robert for your work. I hope everyone out there appreciates your dedication. Your subtle sigh of resignation at 1:05 was so authentic that I felt your pain across the disctance of a thousand kilometers.
#4: Don't let initial comfort be your decider. I feel like more than half of my customers utter "these feel better around the ears/nose/whatever" when picking a pair, despite prefering the look of another pair better. I have to tell them that I always adjust the glasses for the customer and that almost any pair can be made just comfortable, as long as the sizing is alright and there isn't some inherent hinderance, like a very low nose bridge and acetate frames for example. That a pair feels perfect right off the shelf is just random luck, and it should factor in to their choice of glasses.
Questions:- 1. Can Duravision Flash lenses be used on their own and without Photofusion X. 2. If using Flash lenses do you just get the cheaper Duravision silver coating? as the platinum has anti reflection coating which will be pointless with Flash
Robert great video as always. I’ve watched what I believe is almost all of your videos over the past few years. My question is Robert what do you recommend to store all of these glasses in? You have a beautiful drawer that you pull out and they’re lined up.but for the average person, what would you recommend they keep them in? And what do you use when you travel to keep them safe?
When you feel like they need to be cleaned. Zeiss has a great coating, but you never know when a scratch can surface, so you shouldn't clean them more than they need to be.
are there any glasses that have arms like Oakleys. I know you dont care for Oakleys but I like the way they fit behind my ears. Do you like Oakley Overhead frame or Fuller?
I have both! And it's a hard question... What I would say is the Tank is probably the watch you can own your whole life, but GS is a better watch and more niche
Funny, I talked about that in the original cut (there's always parts that are edited out) and I basically said it's all about having the confidence that a cool pair of glasses will good and not worrying too much whether they 'suit' me. The amount of people I've seen try on beautiful glasses that look great on them but they don't feel they 'suit' is depressing
I have a large head, and I'm bald, and I just ordered the Reykavik Hextor. I have a problem with glasses slipping. Does the Hextor stay put if adjusted correctly? Love the channel btw!
Tried on some amazing Jacques Marie Mage glasses. Really suited me but were so tight around the temples in the first few seconds. The lady said ‘we can adjust the arms to make them more comfortable’……?? Can she?
@@thespectaclefactory what ? how ? who !? do i sprinkle some cinnamon n bake the lenses? you gotta elaborate how we get that shade ( i am a optical lab technician 😁)
We get hundreds per day, but we've recruited more people to help answer them. I personally reply to them until I fall asleep every night and all day on my days off. Feel free to give your enquiry a bump to the top of the inbox
Enjoying the content but the faint background music is so very distracting. I know that it’s currently ‘on trend’ on UA-cam to add it but it only takes away.
I'm a construction worker and work as a mechanic on weekends. I get the cheapest glasses I can because I go through them so fast. One's I'm wearing now cost me 29 dollars on Zenni
What makes you "go through them"? Carelessness? Not everything has to be expensive but I just don't see how people can wear things out so quickly. I have zenni glasses from 10 years ago still and expensive JF rey. Glasses really shouldn't wear out. Lenses discolor over time. But wear out?
What you need is a good pair of Reykjavik Eyes with Hoya PNX lenses and Meiyro coating. They would be completely covered against any kind of damage for 3 years, and you get to wear an amazing pair of glasses for that entire time

So true. Titanium frames are what I would recommend as they can be adjusted more easily after the purchase. Really good video.

Fully agree - you should included a link to this video on your appointment confirmation 😊

You're making me think, I'm spending a lot of time in my day wearing a headset, I should probably bring it with me next time I'm shopping for glasses.
Great idea! I suggest that to clients sometimes

One recommendation I would make to your videos, please put the glasses frame and lens type in the description. This would be great

Please review the Nike Zeus! These Olympic frames look insane!!
Hi Robert, I have a pair of Zeiss Clear View, how often should I clean them?
Great question!
When you feel like they need to be cleaned. Zeiss has a great coating, but you never know when a scratch can surface, so you shouldn't clean them more than they need to be.
Maybe every couple of days, under warm water?
This tint you are wearing is stunning! Do you think it could match someone with black hair and lighter skin color?
Yeah, I think so!
are there any glasses that have arms like Oakleys. I know you dont care for Oakleys but I like the way they fit behind my ears. Do you like Oakley Overhead frame or Fuller?
Hi Robert really enjoy the videos. I have a watch question, Cartier or Grand Seiko?
I have both! And it's a hard question... What I would say is the Tank is probably the watch you can own your whole life, but GS is a better watch and more niche
@@thespectaclefactory I know mate that’s why I asked! I can’t decide between the two…
Robert, love the one you wearing, love the shape n tint, which tint is that, just too nice.
Cinnamon tint but I don't know what gradient percentage though.
It complements the golden frames well!
How come every pair of glasses no matter what shape suits you! That's interesting mate!

I'd like the links for the two other videos you mentioned.
They pop up in the corners of the video
I keep going to the same place because I really like my optometrist. They carry a brand called Salt that I really like.
It's a good brand!

When will your Gast Astro two toned rimless glasses be available in that tint & the pricing?
Drop us an email via hello@thespectaclefactory.com and we'll advise you. They are available to order right now

@@thespectaclefactory I definitely will
Love these glasses. For a 300 pound budget which frame would suggest for a sweet violet/red tint? thank you.
@@agnesolsvik rimless or acetate?
#1 make sure you understand your face shape and pick a style of frame which compliments it. Robert does great for his heart-shaped head.
Face shape is a farce.
Do YOU, the buyer, like how you look in a given frame? Then that's what you buy.
Total price of the gast glasses you are wearing in this video? Like total price, frames, tint, coating etc?
For me in my prescription they cost about £750
Any recommendations for lenses for driving at night to block high beams and bright lights
Yes! Zeiss DriveSafe or Hoya Enroute. We'd be glad to make either for you.
@@thespectaclefactory thank you! I will do research on these different type and will reach out.
If you're wearing contacts, then Ray-Ban Colorblock in transparent lilac with 1N orange lenses are what you want. Plus, they won't cost a fortune.
Liked and shared......👍
Thanks for that!
Tried on some amazing Jacques Marie Mage glasses. Really suited me but were so tight around the temples in the first few seconds. The lady said ‘we can adjust the arms to make them more comfortable’……?? Can she?
which lenses would you recommend ? trivex? PC?
Trivex is his fav
One of the mistakes are not to notice the price tag of the frame and the lens beforehand.
so how do you pick out a type/brand of lens?
"I see", said the blind man as he picked up his hammer and saw!!
Did you get those glasses with tint from the Gastro company?
We made them - would be glad to produce them for you too!
Is that cinnamon 25%-10% tint
Sure is, with DriveSafe coating
We'd be glad to replicate it for you!
@ it’s also on a drive safe lens, would you recommend driving at night with it or is it meant for indoor or day glassess
If glasses are too tight on the sides is that bad? Or can they be adjusted to fit?
Thanks for watching!
@@thespectaclefactory That doesn't answer my question...
I think this is on everyones mind: what is the two tone color you have on your glasses??? 😂
It's called 'Cinnamon'
