  • Hi, this is my second Lapsteel manufacturing.
    I used walnut Africa and the bridge is entirely handmade.

    Hey, Dave.... Your build came out better than mine, which doubles as a bed spread when needed.. my b bender usually made people weak, some night vision... But, you did good... Good man!

      That's for sure. I think $200.00 + is kind of outrageous pricing. But a fast way to get to be a millionaire.

      @@michaelwhalen7991 Nope. Most luthiers really don't make a whole lot of money. Same as every other business, the big name brands push the small guys down.

      @@brendanm6921 If david makes these things himself and sells them outright, the only thing he would need to gather is the cost for parts...not sure how much parts are in france, here in the states, not so much...the guy could make a serious living off selling these things, especially around the prices he charges. his site says 249, or for a kit around 600, so yea, that is expensive considering the average consumer can make one of these things if the individual had the know how, would probably cost around 30 bucks max..

    One thing I totally envy you US residents, you got the tools, the trades, the parts, and the wit. Your lap steels is superfreaking cool, man!!! More videos on this instrument you made, PLEASE! I want to build myself one, yours looks and sounds super beautiful.

    I should have done this with my old lap steel. Dang that sounds good bro. A lot less money than what I spent! I wish you lived in the northern Virginia area - So difficult to find musicians to play traditional and outlaw country music.

    Well Sir, as per usual; everytime I find something really cool its Like DUDE, that 'is 4 years old, 7 years, heck I finds one that was 11 years old. 'isht din not one reply. couse if I stop yapping like a cajun high on gumbo,, well i 'spect might be somtin do wid it.Just Kiddin, but have you made a christmas tree or Ladder for the Tuners?

    nice :) so is there 2 whammie bars, it kind of looks like it, i am wanting to build my first ever lap steel and i would like to incorporate a bender set up, i am presently doing a Google search for any information and plans for a 8 string rig.

    A little history:
    The first recording of the "bending" of strings on a Steel Guitar was Bud Isaacs who played for Web Pierce who Recorded "Slowly" in 1954. Link:

    It was an outstanding recording; that drove 30,000 steel players crazy; all over the world as to "HOW did he do it?". That began an evolution of the Pedal Steel Guitar that is still evolving.
    Later Bud wrote a song to embellish the pedals that "bent" the "strangs"; titled "Bud's Bounce". He then recorded the solo showing what the pedal guitar could do in 1956. Link:

      Super interesting! The Pedal steel Claude Nesci in my father's band Tuck Certano played Bud's Bounce when I was a kid Here in the south of France

    I have a hand built lapsteel (I built) I just fabricated some nice benders but am at a loss as to what strings to start using them on. I play a c13 tuning (BbCEGACEG), any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello David - LOVE your bender tailpiece! Been wanting to do something like that myself for a long time, just not sure where to start. Almost looks like an old Mustang/Jaguar vibrato tailpiece. Any chance of being able to purchase one of those from you?

    did you come up with the benders on your own or did u just buy a bridge with benders implemented already? I saw a home made bender bridge that a gentleman made out of a door hinge... truly one of the coolest homemade instruments i've ever seen.
