There's something dark and eerie about the tone of this old Dobro Duolian resonator... it always sounds like it was just pulled out of the swamp. I picked it up today, and started a slow rhythm on the bass string, with my foot tapping on a tambourine, and this melody began to snake it's way out.

Ty for playing good sir
🔥 killin it. Plus you don't seem like a prick. 👍 keep it going buddy. ✌
Mr Johnson you're quite amazing with that guitar! So much feeling!
I recognize the sound I just never knew the type of instrument was playing. Sounds fabulous, thank you.
You and Tyler Childers would be sick!
OKAY!! I am 62 years old and have been listening to Blues, and R&B, Country, and Rock and Roll since the womb, and in all my gathered years I have learned ONE IMMUTABLE FACT!!! You can ALWAYS spot a TRUE MASTER @ his craft as being the one that not only lets you see glimpses of his fret and finger work,. A true MASTER lets you gaze in amazement and wonder at the digital ballet they perform for you. AND the other fact : THEY MAKE IT LOOK EASY!!! BRAVO MAESTRO !!!👏ENCOE!!! ENCORE!
Absolutely 💯 ⚡️🔥⚡️🔥⚡️🔥⚡️🙏🏾
Definitely give you that at the same sge😢! My mother loves it too! Does yours? It's really no competition.
@jamestorres963 It goes for sports and other crafts too.
I've noticed your 2nd fact long ago, before snow in the Alps melted and all of us Alpines lived on skis, that ski competitions wins the one who doesn't seem in a hurry, who skies as if it's easy, as if it's a children's game (it is not).
I mentioned ski competitions bc there's nothing subjective in judging who's the best: winner is the fastest on a track, regardless of his appearance.
Coaches believed in skiers who work hard on every turn, who bite from start to finish, and were always surprised with the results flashing on the board. But winner is the winner (at least in skiing).
Btw I'm sixty-two too.
If you haven’t yet check out a cat named Billy Strings. You can thank me later. :)
Enjoyed your passion for music
Why is it always around 3 am that you discover the best song ever made , a masterpiece
Hopefully, you have saved it and you can now hear it whenever you want :)
tres de la mañana es verdad
3am..witchin' hour 😎
You didn’t find the music the music found you
Gooood question.
Can someone just make an outlaw western movie with Justin in charge of the soundtrack please
Get rid of the finger slide and maybe
Cause it could never top "Dead Man"
Neil Young.. Johnny Depp..western, blackand white..best movie of all time. Soundtrack theme is much superior
I’m on it
Amen to that
For real tho
Ive loved this song since I first heard it. Few weeks ago I was driving down an interstate in the Louisiana area around sunset and a fog started rolling in as soon as this song started. Couple the song, with the fog, and the drone of my straight piped Peterbilt rolling along it was literally one of the most amazing moments of my life.
Straight pipe Peterbilt rolling down the back roads round the scales
Now that brings back memories dude
Beautiful
Cool 😎
This just gave me chills. I drive too brother
❤
While I listen to Justin's incredible playing I can close my eyes and see the black bayou waters in front of my boyhood southern home -- a pale moon, a dark purple sky, Spanish moss lingering from the oaks, reflections of eyes just above the water line, a seafood boil on the fire, the scent of whisky lingering on a warm breeze, sweat on the brow, a misty fog rolling in like smoke, the smell of rain.
Thank you Justin for sharing your incredible talents with us!
That description is so beautiful riveting and utterly gothic. If your aren't a writer yet, you should be!
It gives me the same childhood memories. And I was never within 1000 miles of a bayou in my life. 😄
Great comment!!!
Wow, what a great visual you described!
There is something so mystical and magical about the swamp /wetlands areas! I love that Spanish moss hanging
from the branches of those trees! How lucky you are to have that memory from your childhood when you were a boy!
My bucket list states to visit: Kentucky, Louisiana , Tennessee and Arkansas!!
And to meet Mr. Justin Johnson would be an amazing way to fill my bucket before turning this old brood mare into the forever pastures of the afterlife!!
Sounds crazy huh? Well I’m from California, that kind of wraps it up in a nutshell doesn’t it? Lol, hahaha!!
It sucks to live here, taxes out of control,
most people die broke ass without a pot to piss in!! Take care, love your comment!!
I think you just wrote the lyrics for this song!
Am 62 years young . You are on my “ to see live “ bucket list .
I really hope you get to see him live.
I'm 38, an i have a bucket list sadly. I hope i get to see, do, and own in the time i have left.
No 1 should have a Bucket List at 38, i wish you all the best an good luck.
Much obliged 🤘🍻🚬🇨🇦
Me tooo,but 66,🌹💕🌹
He could make a bucket sound cool
H.ll yah I remember sitting on the front porch with my step dad while he played the gituar and sometimes we sang together.. without music .....my. Soul would either and die . I absolutely loved the sound...thank you for a the wonderful memories..
@elissa f i have reasons I won't talk about on here, but it's a sad thing to actually have a bucket-list at my age.
Dont want 1, but i do.
I can only describe this type of blues as "acceptance." Accepting pain, loss and the inevitability of death. Understanding that its a part of living and being content with your life, even as it fades away. Greeting the reaper with open arms like an old friend.
mas felizes que nunca
Yo bebe!!! I ain't leaving without screaming and kickin!!! Funk, they may even hefta call the cops on my arse!!! 🤣🤣🤣
Yes, but also so much more depth. Also, there's love of music and the communication of so many emotions that words just cannot convey. An immeasurable depth of spirit and soul and honesty. And more...
@@romaczernysz6207 well said.🤔
Your comments reminds me of that Jim Jarmusch movie, Dead Man. And Neil Youngs ost is so mystical and definite.
I can sleep to this on a loop .Its so relaxing
I'm not listening to you play music, I'm hearing you tell a story without words.
💕🌹🌹😘
Yeap right, it was coming me to sing
WHOA 🤯🤯
It's the chapter of a story told from the vary heart of the soul.
It is true. Absolutely.
I love when he plays slide on the resonator. Sounds like a movie scene where a murder is about to go down. Heavy and dark... good job JJ
An excellent choice for a John Wick movie. 👍
Check out Last Man Standing soundtrack by Run Cooder. Good flick too!
Matt Higgins it’s usually around June 1st so yes it has... I’m hoping to go to it next year
How could you ever associate anything justin plays with something so negative and vile like murder, is beyond me
Sabine Garry I only said that’s what it sounds like... I’m definitely not putting a negative or vile connotation towards anything JJ plays
Bro you are one of the most fascinating and talented musicians I've ever heard. I've spent hours listening to you on repeat and I just can't get tired of it. It's real hard to turn it down and almost fucking impossible to turn it off. Holy shit. Me encanta.
What ^he^ (Randy Strahin) said! Unfuckingbelievable! I just stumbled upon your channel earlier this morning and have been viewing/listening non-stop since. I had to log on to work and have your "Bottleneck Slide Guitar" one-hour of slide guitar playing in the background of my applications while I work. Am anxious for this workday to end so I can l really explore your channel. LOVE IT!
What he said

Randy; a mi también me encanta 😻
Everytime I come here to listen, I get lost, in all the very best ways, for literally hours at a time. Your talent and the gift you give by sharing; well, it's truly beyond words. I can't thank you enough.

NOLA born and raised. This hits home for me
I am definitely getting into this kind of playing. Played black, and death metal for 10 years, time to get into blues and the darker country
Always great hearing guitar players discovering their right hand! Good luck on that endeavour!
@@mmgthetartarboi3037. Thanks it's definitely been a journey from fast tremolo picking to finger picking. Went out and got a guitar like this and haven't put it down
Are you in Northern California by any chance? I'm trying to do the same thing. Bar venues are dead but private parties with 100 people is where it's at. Playing dive bars sucks anyways.

You must be having a Gary Moore epiphany. Enjoy the music of the people - the blues
This hit me hard. The tone and the depth of that sound rolled across my soul like I had been waiting my whole life to hear it. Haunting. If i had to choose one instrument in one genre to hear for the rest of my life and nothing else forever, this would be my drug of choice with no regrets. I've never heard this til now and yet I feel like I've always known it. Wow!
Some truly beautiful words. Couldn't have said it better myself
Play em boy. Sounds like your life depends on em. Does mine. Theres joy way deep down under those blues. You remind me so much of my good friend JB Ritchie. I used to manage him back in the day. He played those beautiful blues too. Thank you for reaching me. Marta
Amen. Toda bone

I don't know how to say this I'm 63 years old and I don't know a whole lot about music, but I just listened to your music video and oh my gosh it was beautiful , it evoked so many feelings and I just hope everybody appreciates your talent cuz you're awesome, God bless
I'm 64 and I teach music. They never taught me this in college, although I already knew about it, but not like this. My soul has been taken aback.
When Justin plays it's like an entire movie unfolds before your eyes and you are just an unseen character in the backdrop of Justin's life...
You‘ve put it just perfectly!

Actually I was watching and was just waiting for Clint Eastwood to come walking in...
The stars and moons on the plate are perfect... This is dark night magic.
Mr Johnson, I really meant it when I said I hope to see you live someday! I’m 73yrs old, still in good shape but who knows? I thought I read that you live in Tennessee? Are you doing any public concerts? I have a lot of kin fokes who are buried there and I need to visit them before I die. You sir have a amazing gift and I really hope you years of success. Thanks for all the time and effort you put in to your music!!!
Dear sir, I hope your wish to see and listen to Justin live becomes a reality soon. It‘s a good thought that you two meet. BEST wishes for you from Germany🖖

hey 73's not as old as it used to be
Love to join you. I'm 77 in fairly good shape with alot of sass left. 👍
Justin's playing is hypnotic & mystical
It's not just that he's a fantastic player
It's like his soul comes out & envelops his guitar
Amazing stuff that I can always listen to 👍👍
There are only a few people in the world that can make a guitar speak and you are one of them
I never realized that I liked blues until I heard this song. Thank you for adding a new level of enjoyment to my life 🙂
You like JJ !!! The genre he play is irrelevant !!!
All Them Witches is my modern fave. Rory Gallagher is my old school fave.
I just discovered there was such a thing called dark delta blues yesterday. Now I'm in love
If you lose your way, your connection to your soul, this man's music will return you to your path. God Bless
an he cute
The bayou just has that ancient mystery to it, creepy and beautiful at the same time, a place to be respected. I'd be interested in visiting it one day.
One of the younger heir's apparent to Ry Cooder and J.J. Cale, and too many black bluesmen /blueswomen to name. Love "atmospheric" Blues.

A plus one for you, sir. That's a nicely crafted, precise term.
U 1 sick puppy!!!🤣🤣🤣
if it's the end of the world, it's less serious than if I hadn't heard that and everything you do with your immense talent, your heart, your soul. thank you
awesomer johnson
Justin, you are an incredible guitarist, you have the gift of the southern American sound. A big hug from Argentina and thanks for your art. Martin
The man at his best and in fine form. Simply sublime playing that tells an entire story without a word uttered. Awesome.
I feel like I’m sitting on the back porch of a swamp house watching the night fog roll in. Love your sound.
Me too!

You need to look up Bones Owens-Long Long Time 👍
Sitting on a rocking chair with a shotgun
And if you listen carefully you hear the frogs call from a pond nearby
The tones from this guitar are amazing. His technique is flawless.
I am living in Austria - not a very bluesy country 😆. Since I came across Justin's UA-cam channel I am addicted to his sound, this hypnotic swamp blues. Never heard anybody play like him.
I've been listening to this for hours and i just can't get enough, the eerie dark vibe, the vibrations, the rhythm are absolutely out of this world...i can't tell how happy i am this song exists, you are a legend Justin and i enjoy listening to these master pieces, thank you!
we are watching history be made.
right here.
right now
at 33 years old hes a legend in his own time.
gods above and gods below stand in awe.
i love this music.
I get a smile on my face when I get home from work and see you've posted something. With this one, I could see myself sitting on my deck, my dog panting, birds chirping and the pop of a beer cap. Thank you.
Man, this just coils up in the back of your soul and rattles at you when you look at it. What a fuckin' slow, smoke-curling banger.
The most timeless instrument on the face of this Earth. It has heavy grit undertones even acoustically and yet it's balanced out with melodic midrange and highs. Hats off to a musical genius like this who can make this grand instrument sing from the past into modern times.
Haunting.. and so Beautiful .. when he plays the resonator, it reminds me of my Dad, who played one for 60 years. This Kid is equal in talent to my Father, who played decades... such a Talent to put so much emotion in his music ! Thank you JJ for keeping music alive !
Adrian ?
@@andyuscum hiya..my Father was Otis O'Dell Compton.. here in SC he knew everybody. He mostly played drums all his life but he also played sax ,keyboards, slide guitar, lead guitar bass, rhythm guitar dobro and the resonator guitar, he played all genres and I just adored my Daddy. He played decades and justin already plays better than Dad.. an amazing talent
That right there is a whole movie soundtrack. Magic.
Also can we mention how insane the setting is?? Such a cool backdrop for this
Is he against an upright honky tonk piano, or so that a bar? Huge windows, mystical glassy witchy objects on the bar...
I don't think I can listen to this song enough times! Absolutely awesome!
As another chilly southern night comes. I return again, to hear these chillingly beautiful chords. As the winds blow Foul, i sit oblivious to them. Immersed in my new favorite song.
This song really does make me feel alive, and even happy. It really does grab my emotions like nothing ever has before. I just wish there was a 10 hour loop, so i can sleep to this...
Its got that melancholy and then suddenly quite uplifting...its an emotional rollercoaster🙂
I love this piece, and the title is fitting. Eerie, soulful, and mesmerizing at the same time.
Whatever the tune and piece of music is played by JJ, I always have the feeling that the guitar is an extension of his soul.
Fantastic work.
My lockdown period has a special memory with Justin's music.
We need a real bayou witch movie with this soundtrack
i can play the witch cos i am one u r specking to one of coven 13 witchers
Even if the movie wasn't very good, the soundtrack would make it worth seeing
And this song could be the opening title, or if they made a new western series, same thing. This would be dope to have with the names of the actors and directors etc popping up and vanishing into smoke
Chock full of cypress knees please!
The Movie Skeleton Key
If there were a Part Two
Justin Johnson would be perfection
No music this decade has caught my attention like his
There’s a lot of musicians out there. But this man is a surgeon. He just cut his own heart open and bled all over that guitar.
That's a real bad surgeon.
Has anyone noticed how perfect each background is to fit each song that he plays? Loving that crystal ball in the background of this one...and those classic Louisiana windows!! Such sweet perfection in the details of his music and each thing we see on the screen - all weave into this master work!
It just doesn't get any better than this.
There are few songs that truly hit the soul lately , but thank you for making this one mean something
Rockstars games should just hire him permanently to make music on the “red dead” line of games.
Please contact
2K shoulda got him for Mafia III
Ok, but what about someone doing a Red Dead Twitch stream and just have him set up in the background?
This tune needs to be in Hunt: Showdown, it fits the theme perfectly
Yeah dude thats for damn sure
I love your hands...they play each instrument so differently, yet beautiful. What a blessing you are to all of us. ⚘🎸❤🕊🎶
Born and raised in the back country of central North Carolina, always loved metal and rock, something about this took me back down to the core of my roots in my soul. Well done.
I am captivated by the resonator, the song, and the player! This is on my play list for relaxation!
I've never heard a bad song by Justin but I come back to this one over and over
Непередаваемая атмосфера. Эта музыка рисует картинки в моем воображении!
I always like how you get the right atmosphere with the attention to background. Not to mention your incredibly soulful playing.
A mothers tear is more as gold ... but alway a three fold ...shall never give up on her childrens faith ...
and follows every case....shes watching over them she loves...like others see the doves ...
She sees the dragon in his pain ....and starts a heavy rain....through tears she crys ... about the lies ... her beauty is in every drop ... to make the horror stop ... and for a moment the world stands still ...when god father gets his will !
Absolutely perfect for the travel music in Borderlands.
That was my thoughts. Total Borderlands 1/2 vibe.

Absolutely.

Incredible what a guy and a guitar can do. This is one of Justin's very best. Pure art... And an instant classic in the soundtrack of my life.
Love that resonator sound!
"Dark and eerie" boy is it ever!
This is one of those songs that has a dystopian feel to it. A time from long ago brought back to life today. It connects with me in a unique way.
Hory Shit! I did not know this genra existed and now I NEED MORE!
swamp rock and dark country are some of the names this genre is being called.
you're looking for it, so it will find you.
Пусть будут благославены твои пальцы! Хочу верить что этот дух блюза живёт только в твоём сердце. Иначе даже не могу представить как можно переживать такие вибрации. Ты бесподобен и гениален..❤
"May your fingers be blessed! I want to believe that this spirit of the blues lives only in your heart. Otherwise, I can’t even imagine how one can experience such vibrations. You are incomparable and brilliant" - zverstvo
The words don't exist to describe how good this track is. Adding it to my playlist of favorite individual music tracks.
I grew up in the rural deep south.
Reminds me of balmy nights, night blooming jasmine and gardenias.
Gorgeous, sultry, mysterious. This evokes much in the minds eye. Thanks guys.❤🍀🇮🇪
Just fabulous! The fact that you're approaching a million views in less than two months tells you this is a winner!
Yep yep and yep
The 502 dislikes are from the dead among us with no souls, as this sound hit's the soul, speaks to it and profoundly moves it. If you want to see if you have a soul, just close your eyes and listen, if you start getting visuals that is just simply your soul taking you on a journey as the music moves it.
It's from the lost dead souls he summoned from their eternal bayou graves....
Put pressure on your eyes. Then you see things without needing to listen to anything.
Or red ping pong balls. And red light. Also, most people cannot stand to be in a sensory deprivation chamber for a reason.
@lola Blakeslee wow, as the joker would say "Why Sooooo Serious?"
I'm sorry, but it just reminds me too much of the time I sold my soul to the devil at those crossroads. I really wish I'd traded it for something better than being the greatest The Dukes of Hazzard board game player, though.
Giving me dang chills 0:42
Does anyone else think "Redemption" when listening to this tune? Eerily beautiful JJ.
You never let us down but this one .. just WOW I feel it in my soul tyx🎵

New Orleans is beautiful before and after Katrina
There are few things in life that are actually perfect but, by God, this tune is.
Such a deep and moving performance. My "non-linear" brain conjured the disturbing rage and grief of the Psalmist in, "By the rivers of Babylon we lay down..."
I love this guitar! The stars and crescents are beautiful and the haunting sounds that just pour out of her are entrancing. You are a musical storyteller and the best finger picker I've ever heard. Please keep sharing your amazing talent.

I like this one more every time I hear it. I love the way Justin plays. I've been listening for about 4 hours straight and do not want to stop.
This is hauntingly beautiful, Justin. I love how you describe the process of creating music... Very poetic and lovely. Thank you for sharing your talents with the world. It's inspiring!

I can't stop listening to this. I didn't know what a "dobro" guitar was so I looked it up and your video popped up in the results. I am in love with this song! I'm a fan! You have such talent and a humble demeanor.
Justin's subtlety, excellence and style are neither Southern nor Western, they are from another planet.

Amazing how Justin can sing through his soul with out singing a word.
Ahh, soul.

I've literally been obsessed with your music ever since you came up in my recommended list a few weeks ago, and I simply cannot get enough. You speak to my soul, and I fucking LOVE your style.
