Good podcast and great guest. Some questions I'd liked to have put to him though.
- Is Celtic's use of certain markets Japan/Australia/Korea/Israel likely to lead to a significant increase in revenue for the club or TV deals for the league?
- How far are Celtic from competing with clubs like Ajax, Benfica, Porto etc?
- Is the debt of many premier league sides and other European heavyweights in Spain and Italy likely to lead to a levelling of competition in the medium term future?
Something for a future episode perhaps but good job getting him on...
Match day season ticket resale would generate a lot of money - lots of teams do it
Aye. Even if it didnt generate huge amounts directly itd be better for 'the brand' to not have all those empty seats and you're giving more fans the chance to get to more invested by getting to games more often. Its just a good idea
@@DavidByrne85 when I take my son we usually buy food and something from the shop - we don’t have seasons , so say I spend £100, that’s a circa 50k, plus say 5000 x 20 from the ticket resale share another 10/15k
And that’s every home game
We would have a full house
It’s mind boggling why they are dragging their heels with it
Thanks guys. This was really interesting. The money has ruined football like it ruins everything else. Setanta & Sky were the beginning of the demise. Scottish football can not improve without proper investment & this is the difficulty. Our SFA do nothing to try to promote our game either. Frustrating to say the least. HH 🍀
Agents messed the game up from their start in becoming involvrd through pure GREED
thats when footballers demanded big wages and spoke back to managers with threats like yon Dembele parasite saying im sitting doen in training as he did under Rodgers when at celtic last time around and sat down on training ground when other players were trining around about him ..Only then he got his wish a move away back to French football and Lyon at time ..Agents done that . Parasites they are within our game .
I'd like to see more podcasts like that if possible. How Celtic and Scottish football can improve in Europe and how are the finances and ways it can improve to benefit the game.
Enjoyed the discussion, very interesting.
Good watch that was. Thank you
'' Two house moves & a new job move.'' Are you in the witness protection programme?
I'll blink twice if that's true...
It's all about the size of the TV deals in larger countries with larger populations and that's the end of the discussion. Now, don't forget it would take only 1 single oligarch to invest in one of the Edinburgh, Aberdeen or Dundee clubs to transform Scottish football into 3 horse race. The only obvious solution is to merge markets with other similar sized countries such as the Scandanvians which then gets is a bigger league with a better tv deal. The other option is a European Superleague with promotion from the domestic leagues and trickle down payments into the domestic league. In the meantime aiming to be Europa League Last 8 participants should be our current goal and aspiration.
But there will NEVER EVER be '' 1 single oligarch to invest in one of the Edinburgh, Aberdeen or Dundee Clubs'' simply because that 1 single oligarch would NEVER EVER see a return on his/her multi - millions they would ''invest'' & indeed even the skint wee Sevco, the one time so-called ''establishment'' Club in Scotland back in the day, can't even attract ANY kind of serious money from ''investors'' ANYWHERE because they're a complete financial basket case....
Out of leagues in Europe it would be a quicker one compared with most other European leagues.
A big investment in another team would be great to see.
Really fascinating chat.
We keep hearing of this £30 million war chest.
Frankly, I'll believe it when I see it.
Spend £30 million, keep Kyogo and Hatate and the rest then we're talking.
sell hatate. keep ccv aj abada matty o cal mac koygo, jota
The club has said nothing, you’re listening to the media and fellow fans. Our finances are clear, they’re in our published accounts
Finally! Been looking forward to this one.
the stadium is in need of upgrade as it is long overdue especially the main stand. as it could be built up to the level of the rest of the stadium
Main stand should been done years ago make stadium symetrical and it's 72,000! Fergus built 3 stands in 4y ears 25years on and still nothing done filling it is no issue especially with Brendan back , do we won't to give the Huns a chance ! Build it Celtic years overdue we have the money also and it make us fortunes long term!
Want to even
Merry Christmas !
I appreciate you all trying something new....
Great show guy's but Kieran McGuire mentioned on a couple of occasions that Fergus McCann was in charge at Celtic. Someone needs to tell him Fergus not been at CP for well over 20 years
Fantastic content
Thanks very interesting hail hail look forward to seeing you
Yon guy in pod with blue shirt is a rangers fan .
The player trading model and the decline in results since 2012-13 are not unconnected.
Neither is the fact we have had 3 Managers who have set their stall out and posted their colours to the mast of a single approach ,one system ,one setup with basically the same team week in week out no matter who we came up against?
Be that Hamilton Accies on a Sunday or PSG on a Wednesday neither Deila,Rodgers nor Postecoglou approached Europe with any sort of a pragmatic solution to close the chasm in talent or counter the tactics of the side we were to play.
Strachan and Lennon set their sides up dependant primarily on the oppositions strengths and perceived weakness whilst attempting to retain our own threat with whatever players we had available.
As a result we have seen Celtic go from last 16 to lost 17 in the Champions League.
Lastly you cannot hope to build a team for Europe whilst systematically selling key assets every 2 years.
That’s counter productive.
Ps Celtic posted a decent profit in 2022 whilst Rangers posted another loss.
They haven’t posted a single penny profit since 2012.
They’ve been operating with internal financing since 2017 and have diluted their shareholding massively as a result.
Brilliant. Really enjoyed this.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed.
According to Refinitiv Eikon (data terminal) Celtic are the most reliable publicly traded football club to lend to, with a 99 score on their own valuation process called the combined alpha model.
Hail Hail Enda and good luck with the new job and house..☘🤞
Thank you!
9:11 - The problem with having "Finish 3rd" as an objective is that what happens if we go in to Matchday 6 with 3rd spot secured but a win/draw could see us reach the last 16?
Realistically the last 16 of the CL is as far as we'll go. We'd be playing the likes of Bayern/PSG/Real/Man City over a winner take all 2 leg tie. These teams would be "bringing their A game" as the Yanks say, and there is no chance we could compete with that over 180 minutes.
But hoping to finish 3rd (in a 4 team group) before a ball is even kicked just doesn't sit well with me at all. Albeit it is the most realistic appraisal of our current situation.
To be honest I am slowly coming around to the idea of a breakaway super league. Just let the 10-15 richest clubs go off somewhere and play each other every week. I think when the dust settled, Celtic would actually end up in a better position.
If Man Utd/Man City/Liverpool/Spurs/Arsenal/Chelsea all left the EPL to go play in some breakaway league then where does that leave clubs like Brighton, Crystal Palace, Burnley etc... ? It'd leave them with a vastly reduced TV deal and it would mean that they'd have less financial muscle to compete for players. This would all be good news for Celtic.
👍The problem is that after next season , there will be no drop down to Europa or Conference league. So to go on a great run in Europe ( highly unlikely in CL) we would have to be aiming to finish 3rd in the SPFL to try for Europa success . I have not seen any fan media discuss this although Hamish (67HailHail) explained the new format CL in great detail . Why is no one discussing this quandary???!!!
Disappointed with the amount of Rangers chat on this week bth. Not interested in there financial affairs
Guys please start a Huddle Breakdown following Ange. Ive learnt so much about football from your discussions
You can tell a hun because they always say rangers first even tho Celtic comes first in every way lol
They also never say "Celtic Park" it's always "Parkhead" even when specifically talking about the stadium, they never say "Celtic Park" always "Parkhead"
@@NoName88837 Yeah my point is that huns NEVER say "Celtic park". I know that for some Celtic fans - Parkhead/Celtic Park are interchangeable but that wasn't my point.
Shut it ya taig
Spot on! On both always said this even those so called neautrals ie motherwell and hearts orcs especially tho plenty of these weirdos
Rangers won the league by 25 points and everything was going to crumble. I think Celtic have done pretty well, considering that prediction.
We can't compare our game to England's, even though we share an island. We should be compared to neighbouring Euro nations of a similar size.
However, Scotland is the best supported nation in Europe per head, if not the world. Take the Glasgow sides out and we sit 3rd.
Scotland need to ditch SKY who have ruined us. and stifled progress. We need to be independently run like other Euro nations.
That guy said celtic should have put in more seats at Celtic when Rangers went down, without mentioning the fact Celtic attendances dropped by 15000 😂😂😂😂
fix the roof when its sunny
I feel like I've been banging on about this forever but football simply has to better serve the interests of big clubs in small countries. Off the top of my head here are 18 that could make up a very competitive league with qualification for the three European competitions - Ajax, PSV, Feynoord, Sporting Lisbon, Porto, Benfica, Celtic, Rangers, Club Bruges, Anderlecht, Copenhagen, Rapid Vienna, RB Saltzburg, Ferencvaros, Red Star Belgrade, Dinamo Zagreb, AEK Athens, Olympiakos.
There could be a pyrymid structure of promotion and relegation from the domestic leagues via some kind of mini end of season tournament. It's not beyond the wit of man and would be brilliant for football. Why don't UEFA get onto it??!
Because the so called bigger teams don't want it means more money for the teams you've just mentioned and theirs a couple teams you mentioned would only need to be in said tourney will get bigger quicker than they'd want and go up and start kickin ass and takin names that's why but the big clubs don't realise it will come down to TV revenue anyway same as Celtic and rangers going to the premier ship so called big four don't want us down their cause they know we can fill 60,000 every week at parkhead playing in Scotland our nice new big ones if we get down ther we'd fill 80ro90 thou a week they know this and the 5he same amount of money from sky for around 1to 5 or 6 we'd be just as big if not bigger than said top four well it's top six now is it
Excellent...but someone needs to tell keiran...Fergus left more than 20 years ago 😂
As a finance profesional, I’ve never really dug into Celtic before. This was absolutely brilliant. James is a pessimistic tool though. Very naive
Our accounts are published for all to see, no digging required
Celtic don't need to sell a player if they're in the CL. They often have their hand forced because the player wants to leave, or choose to do so because of contract situations but, they don't need to sell with automatic CL.
The problem with all that is losing the automatic CL spot. It makes you want to bang your head off a brick wall.
Only ever been 2 teams in Scotland
Brutal podcast. He needs to stay doing Rangers financial podcast. No one challenged his stadium expansion during our worst season tickets books sold era? Did you ever attended Paradise when Rangers, Hibs and Hearts out of the SPFL?
That's why people in leadership positions are paid to think strategically not tactically. What will be needed in 5-10 yrs not 5-10 months.
There’s nothing destined to set the pulse racing on a football podcast than opinions derived from a spreadsheet. As an accountant and Celtic supporter myself I can’t say I learned a lot here. The content didn’t really live up to the introduction I got the impression that your guest had been burning the midnight oil on Celtic before coming on. We’re a Europa League side not a CL competitor at the sharp end . I think most of us accept that and hope for some serious progress at that level. Domestically we need to beat a strong Rangers challenge ( the emergence of a third competitor would be good but unlikely at the moment). This scenario gives the SPL some credibility viewed from the outside. If we’re miles ahead of them what then? Eventually trophy devaluation , winner’s fatigue and apathy. Tbh I found the debate cerebral and erudite as usual but fruitless
But we're NOT ''miles ahead of them'' & never really have been, apart from the days when they had to play the likes of Peterhead & even then we couldn't win a Treble until Rodgers arrived in 2016 & because of the complete demise & collapse of the five other Scottish Clubs (Aberdeen, Hearts, Hibs & the two Dundee Clubs) that are ALWAYS NEEDED to provide SOME kind of threat to the duopoly, then this coming season's League Title is ONLY all down to what happens in the four Glasgow derbies.....
@@frankbrennan1619 Totally agree, every sport needs healthy competition or it is not really a competition, as a boy growing up in the 80s I relished Aberdeen and Dundee Utd visiting Glasgow as you just knew you were in for a great game, those days are long gone and dont look like returning anytime soon, real shame.
@@starofdavid9919And of course what will near completely kill Scottish football in the end is not the duopoly, but instead ONLY the continued demise & race to the bottom of Aberdeen, Hearts, Hibs & the two Dundee Clubs for the reasons that you say no ''healthy competition'' & with the ONLY really serious chance of a way out is the merger of the two Edinburgh & Dundee Clubs, but that's not happening anytime soon, if ever & so the very unhealthy duopoly rolls on.....
The Rangers podcast😂😂😂😂
20:06 is he a shareholder with the other Glasgow team?
29:57 How much is a season ticket for Bayern compared to Celtic🤷♂️
Did u have carrot soup for lunch?
Listen for the way the cluns run its self sufficient which means it could eun it self basically like dermot said we jave a atructure in place where our club is self sufficient and we've just be named as having best stadium in the world alls good except that home atrip
No we haven’t.
Perhaps the leagues should amalgamate. Call it the British premier league.
Why would the EPL agree to that?
Better tell the Lisbon lions. That should not have won the European Cup because inter have a bigger pay pack. So much crap.
HH Great debate for ME Celtic par Ik is Ridicules far to small Capacity wise. For me it should be 120,00 0 or bigger so ST would be much bigger + fans can turn up on the day & get in: As Celtic has a Waiting List of 20-30,000 with proper Segregation. Foot Ball is moving in Different Directions so think big & move with it Leave the Cheats Behind they are holding Celtic Back hh ktf
So,they double the size….just like that?
It was 8 years ago we struggled to fill it.
This guy Kieran is just embarrassing. There was never going to be a monopoly. Celtic are a bit better than Rangers in every area - there is never going to be a massive sustainable difference between the clubs. Celtic are always going to be a bit better.
Too much Rangers chat. 🍀
Thanks Ian, I was conscious of that and did try to keep it to Celtic as much as I could! Probably did sway too much to concentrating on other thing
Yeez couldn’t finish 3 rd in a European brothel
I have and I will again 😂
Your only talking about celick not being big enough out of Scotland.
Rangers are huge outside Scotland over 100s of supporters club around the world just for a start. WATP
Yes, that's why they sell less shirts and make less in commercial revenue. Do huns genuinely not attend school?

All with a membership of one. You can always rely on a hun to say something stupid.
