I was just 6 years old when this happened. I remeber watching the funeral on our monotone TV. I had no idea what was going on. It was just another event with that had soldiers parading. I’d just got back from the little pond we called a pool in my shorts with friends.
looking back now after this interview, I remember how significant that event was, still is. I now teach politics and I teach a bit of this history to my students.
Thank you Edmund Obilo for preserving this history.

I'm deeply grateful for this podcast which shed more light on the assassination of Chief Bola Ige. In 1981, my father took me along with him to visit late Chief Bola Ige (when he was Governor of the old Oyo State). I vividly remember him as a brilliant & outstanding Governor. It's utterly shocking that such a quintessential personality can be eliminated by evil & corruptible elements in our country. Is Nigeria any better today? From London, UK

The people that killed are government and in that case there’s no justice in Nigeria. The DSS are the worst law enforcement in the world. They’re used by government as hire assassins. This is why the FBI in the United States are independent. It was a well planned assassination just like late Funsho Williams was assassinated in Lagos by Tinubu government to remain the dominant man in the state.

I was in the St. Paul Angelican Church choir, Esa-Oke and we started to hear the rumours of his brother George Ige's demise on our way back from his funeral. It wasn't long after this the then Owa Omiran of ESA -Oke, Oba Isaiah Adeniran also died. Injustice is what you get when it is those who should ensure Justice is delivered that are the perpetrators. Hmmmm... Continue to Rest in Peace Uncle Bola Ige. Your murders should not die again.

The prevailing situation of hooliganistic / Agberocratic nuisances needs to be nips once and for all . This is nothing but a pure oduduwa political timidity / kakistocratic hullabaloo…they should learn to civilize themselves in the corridor of power tussles.

Bola Ige was a very honest politician who wanted the best for Nigeria.
I know when he started the healing process between the Igbos and Yorubas especially the purported betrayal of Igbos by Yorubas during the civil war.
    He meant well for Nigeria
A certain group in Yoruba land saw him as a threat which was one reason he did not get second term as Oyo governor.
He could have carried out the unfinished business of Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

Obasanjo-led government should be held responsible for such high profile murder. A whole Attorney General of the Federation would be murdered and could not unravel the mystery till date shows that Federal Government actors were involved.

Hmmmmm. Aunty Tinuke her Mom were classmates in kings college Lagos and late Bola Ige was close family friends to my parents.. The Miller twin both of blessed memories. They both visited us in kaduna regularly. And once I remember,he was the chief launcher at the synod of my village diocese in Wusasa Zaria in which he and General graced the synod... Great people and extremely modest and laughable... Rest on.... It shall be explained some day... Adieu to all our loving parents who have gone to be with the Lord .. 😢

See, the reason the country continues to stay the way it is is because people are too careful and sometimes too fearful to mention names in situations like this. We will only start making progress as a country when we start naming names in very specific manner in situations like this. She’s been careful to mention the names of the security detail or at least describe them best she can. I won’t blame her though. The family went through too much.
This is why they are all running Kiti-kiti after Dele Farotimi released his book. Awon were jatijati. If baba Afe was so good and honorable like he claimed, we would have heard stories of his confrontations with the criminal state. The good men we respect, who are truly honorable don’t live to 100. They’ve all been killed by criminal leaders. Good people around the world who challenge the status quo piss the bad guys up a lot and get in real trouble with them. MLK, Malcom X, Marcus Garvey, Patrice Lumumba, Kwame Nkrumah, Bola Ige, Fela Anikulapo, Mr and Mrs Ransome Kuti, Ken Saro Wiwa, and the list goes on. They’ve almost all experienced a similar fate. Baba Afe has never been mentioned in any association of these greats. Who baba help? Criminal statesmen who manipulate the people into thinking they were fighting for them. Wolves in sheep’s clothing.
The next decade in Nigeria will be a period of exposure. Secrets go come out and many people with their false sainthood will be trashed in the mud. We will get Nigeria back where it belongs amongs the nations. Una never know anything. The bloods of our innocent heroes will keep crying for the liberation of our beloved country. Awon barawo jatijati.
They intentionally took history out of the curriculum in our school system to prevent the people from knowing their history so they can bury their evil past. Like I said, the consciousness of the average Nigerian is awakened and people are beginning to question things that don’t make sense to them. These old criminals know that this generation asks questions. It’s not as docile as our parents generations that didn’t ask much questions of them and let them just run the cover aground and keep the people suppressed. They are not ready for the young generation and don’t even know how to handle these young chaps. You criminal politician, I’ll like to break the news to you that the younger generations are coming for you and you have no place to hide. Your days of oppressing the people is up.
If these criminal leaders and those who ran Nigeria aground have any sense at all they’ll know that Dele Farotimi is the least of their worries. They have bigger fish to fry. The awareness of the people is heightened and the Nigerian people will start asking tough questions of them soon and they can quickly find themselves in hot mess with the people just like what we are seeing in some parts of the world right now. You can’t keep a people quiet forever.

This is not true, bring up your proof. If you will suspect any group that time, you should suspect Obansajo led PDP that was disgraced in South West in 1999 (credited to Chief Bola Ige's influence in South West) and was ready to do anything to take over South West in 2003. During this period, Tinubu was battling against the same people (PDP) for the soul of Lagos State. In addition to this, one of the main suspects in the killing of Chief Bola Ige was rewarded with a Senatorial Seat by Obasanjo led PDP. This suspect won election and became a Senator while he was in Police custody as a suspect.

@Marcusmark911 Mr Marcus, you have said it all. Justice shall prevail about the death of late minister for Justice Chief Bola lge the Lion of Esa Oke, the cicero of Nigeria. He was a wonderful politician after the late Obafemi Awolowo. Apparently, the country called 'Nigeria' can not move forward because of the blood of many innocent souls that have been assassinated by the past government hudlums. But with God all things are are possible and the truth will come to light some day. The great evil committed by Chief Olusegun Obasanjo shall stand in the witness box against him on the last day. No apology which is needed for for now, ultimately, the truth will surface one day. If the wrong deeds disappeared for a thousand years eventually, the truth will come to the lights some day. Lets the young Nigerians have this perception in their minds that 'lgbo Odajù ni Nigeria. An unforgivable society. The spirit of those who are killed through assassin's needs an answer now.

We were preparing for Christmas when a distress call came for my Dad to join a team to investigate the incident and my dad in his pyjamas went for the assignment and was not home, in till Christmas. After all was said and done, all my dad could say is there is no justice in the court of man, only God gives true justice. May the God of justice give justice as it’s never late with God.

This story is one of the stories that made me concluded that Baba Obasanjo has no moral standing to suggest ways to put Nigeria in the right part. He should apologise for his failure to implement those suggested ways of putting Nigeria in the right part when he had the opportunity.
It is a fact that the activities of baba Obasanjo in the South West led to the emergence of such character like President Tinubu and his followers from that part of the country. We all know that baba Obasanjo constantly attacked the institutions and individuals standing for policy based political ideology in the South West and the peak of such activities was the killing of Chief Bola Ige, who happened to be the last renowned man standing for such political ideology. Perhaps if baba Obasanjo had not committed those wicked acts in the South West, Tinubu wouldn’t have emerged from that region and rise to the present position with his kind of present character, in other word no one exhibiting characters like Tinubu would have emerge from that region and rise to the position of President. I believe Tinubu borrowed from Obasanjo game plan by submitting to the owners of Nigeria like Obasanjo did and rose to the top, so that he will not end up like Chief Awolowo and Chief Bola Ige who refused to submit them.
