The dumbest part is that they disguise Lenny as a dolphin. Dolphins also eat fish, AND they’re sadistic about it. If anything, the fish should be MORE scared of dolphins than sharks.
Imagine if Dreamworks remade the movie today and it was a buddy cop movie where Oscar and Lenny were partners investigating the death of Frankie. Also it was established that nonsapient fish existed and the opening had Oscar and Lenny going out hunting.

Well Pixar released Inside Out and the Good dinosaur in the same year. Sony released Spider-Verse a year after the Emoji Movie. It’s not that uncommon.

If they cut out the part where he wastes the money and just have be stolen or something then I would understand his choice considering he was about to die, but he wastes himself and loses any sympathy for what happens next.
To me, Dreamworks movies go through far greater extremes than their rivals at Disney. Their highs are higher, as anyone who has watched Prince of Egypt can attest, but their lows are SO much worse 😅

Imagine this getting a sequel to at least a redesign like they did with The Bad Guys. Personally, I still had a great Fish Buffet and guess who was on my Main Menu! >:D
