      Does Lanturn have comparable bulk to Rotom Wash? Wanna run the calcs. Also, I think Lantern needs a stat buff since the abilities are all either too useful or fitting for a change.

    I had a lilligant and it basically killed everything. It had own tempo so you could use Petal Dance, set up some quiver dance and with Giga Drain you could restore your health.

    • @littlecat0908
      @littlecat0908 7 років тому +5

      I found out about it by accident. That would be super powerful! You should give Lilligant a try. Try to use sleep powder on the first turn, if it's works you can just set up quiver dances and with Giga Drain and Petal Dance you're all set!

    • @airtempest8945
      @airtempest8945 6 років тому +2

      I was playing Moon and I caught a Petilil 'cause I felt like trying it out, since I liked Liligant. Then I looked at it's ability, and it was Own Tempo. I knew that Liligant got Petal Dance, so I was pretty happy that I got to use that combo. If I could, I would breed one for Dream Eater. NO ONE expects Dream Eater on Liligant (Obviously, I'd run Sleep Powder too).

    Interesting note: Ash's Aipom/Dawn's Ambipom was actually female. Dawn always referred to Aipom as a girl and May confirmed it in the Japanese dub of the episode "Aipom and Circumstance" (Battle Frontier Episode 38).

    I love grass types, but I used to be one of those people who always picked the fire starter. then I played X and picked Fennekin, so when I got to pick a Kanto starter, I picked Bulbasaur for diversity. he was so cute and lovable, and after he evolved into Venusaur, he was one of the strongest members of my team.
    not only did Bulbasaur break my starter bias, but he's my favorite Pokémon of all time now. I'm really happy to see him get some love 💚

      The oddish line isn't that good when it comes to actual grass moves. It learns the absorb moves, which is good, but that's really it in the grass department. Great poison type moves though. The Bellsprout line is even worse with its rather pathetic choice of grass moves, no absorbing moves to make up for its moves with lackluster power, and worse yet it doesn't have side typing to offer any coverage moves. The bulbasaur line really was the only good grass choice in the 1st generation. The other 2 choices were merely ok and terrible, although you can make do with the ok choice. It is fun to slowly leech the life from your enemy like a vampire after all.

    Well,i thought that bellossom was a pretty bad grass type pokemon.But when i played heartgold,i found an oddish in ilex forest.I grew her up but then I had to make a decision between evolving it to vileplume or bellossom.I won the bug catching contest many times so a had plenty sun stones.My sister loved bellossom and I evolved my gloom to a bellossom.And suprisingly she was REALYY good.Now I think that bellossom is a cute,cool,pokemon

    • @Nekosage

      Bellossom is surprisingly durable for something it's size and while not an offensive powerhouse, base 80 attack and 90 special attack are still decent, making it work. I've ran it at least a couple of times, once in gen 2 and 3 on full play-throughs. Whenever I can another copy of one of the gen 4 remakes I'll be running one again.
      I was extremely happy when I found out it can learn Quiver Dance in Sun & Moon. I definitely took advantage of the move re-learner when sending my little Bellossom troupe over.
      The only minor annoyance I have is that gen 2 introduced both the Chikorita line(my only favorite grass starter so far) and Bellossom. I'm not fond of doubling up on types, so picking a different starter is the way to go for me. Both lines have Magical Leaf in gen 4, so they can function similarly in certain situations.

    The bug type in general, I've grown to appreciate. For a very long time I just wrote the type off as useless and never used it, until I had a shiny Larvesta in my Y playthrough. I figured, why not.
    Oh my god. That Larvesta/Volcarona opened my effing eyes to what I was missing. Since then I've done playthroughs featuring Galvantula, Beedrill, and more. Gen 5 did a lot of good for the bug type and using them in gens 6 and 7 is excellent

  • @krx50

    I also came to appreciate Venusaur too, but that wasn't until my Pokemon X playthrough, where I picked a Bulbasaur to support my Fennekin, and grew to love Venusaur and Mega Venusaur.
    Also in my Pokemon X, I really came to appreciate Raichu. I'd always liked it more than Pikachu(who I still like anyways), but X was the first time I'd ever used a Pikachu in a main series game that wasn't Yellow Version, and he really pulled his weight in getting me through the story. Then, for Pokemon Sun, I used an Alolan Raichu who was also amazing. Needless to say, Raichu has now become one of my favorite Pokemon

    I absolutely love videos like this cause it's so nice and positive.
    Makes you look and think differently about pokemon that on the surface might not look great to you at first but, then over time, you grow fond of them for different reasons like from having one on your team, reading up on it's origin, watching how it acts in the anime, or even just playing with the pokemon in amie/refresh. This has definitely happened to me with a lot of pokemon! Example: nosepass and its evolution! I love them both now.

    i actually thought Mimikyu would be a ripoff of Ditto at the start of Sun and Moon, but it actually turned out to be 1 of the best pokemon in alola competitively and (imo) the best backstory so far.

    For me, it's Mantine, Exploud, Gastrodon, Bronzong, Jellicent, Durant and Barbaracle.
    - Mantine just wasn't good enough until Generation 7 boosted its stats, and it's actually very fun to raise.
    - I was hesitant about raising Exploud until Gen 5, and Jellicent in Gen 6.
    - While I do love bugs more than most other types, I simply forgot about Durant until Gen 6 when I found one as an ambush encounter.
    - I had to play through X/Y multiple times before I finally decided to experiment with Barbaracle. It's now my favorite Gen 6 water-type after Greninja.
    - I am currently doing an Egglocke with a Gastrodon and Bronzong in my team. I'm only sad that I never gave them a chance before now. [My team is Sceptile, Luxray, Pyroar, Gastrodon, Bronzong and Cofagrigus.]

    • @MyRegularNameWasTaken
      @MyRegularNameWasTaken 5 років тому +1

      Oh goodness, Bronzong. I was inches away from deciding my Bronzor was just too weak for me. It had like 30 Atk and Sp. Atk despite being around level 30, and I just couldn't do much with it. I figured I'd let it get Gyro Ball before evolving since it might be a useful STAB, but with Extrasensory (a disgustingly good psychic move) already performing mediocre at best, I was hesitant. Not to mention, leveling up a pokemon who struggles to get a KO? Not easy. But, I got him Gyro Ball and then leveled up into Bronzong and... holy crap. Seventy-something Atk instantly! Suddenly Extrasensory was a kill switch, and the thing STILL had tank potential on both fronts. It's a tough road to evolve, but totally worth the effort.

    I love the Nuzlocke community in a large part because of the fact that you are forced to use Pokemon that you wouldn't normally, and get to appreciate them for what they are. Due to my ruleset (don't use anything I've used before), I've grown to love a bunch of new Pokemon, namely
    Slowbro (I had 2 on my team in LeafGreen and both kicked butt),
    Hypno (surprisingly strong psychic type from the generation where they were king),
    Lanturn (saved my team after Claire's Kingdra killed my Glaceon in SoulSilver),
    Bibarel (who's not only the best HM user but amazingly a solid first-route catch I was able to take to the Elite Four and have it do well),
    Tangrowth (never really gave it thought until I got one on my team in SoulSilver),
    and Musharna (I soloed Cynthia with one in Black 2 Challenge Mode. Seriously).

    One I've grown to especially appreciate is Galvantula. I at first have the usual thought that it's just another Bug type, but I realized I was getting into something special once I started using it in battle. That's why my perspective on the term "Favorite type" has changed from an aesthetic perspective to "what can I have fun pushing to the limit in a battle?".

    I have a theory that the pokemon team knew what they where doing with the starters in gen 1 and they knew that the bulbasaur line is not the best visual appealing so they made it the strongest of the 3 to punish the trainer who judged it by its cover. Also the best looking pokemon is charizard and lets be honest he sucks real bad. And then blastoise its not that bad. Also i think the anime support this on how ash had his charizard but never listened all the way until Jotho

    • @dapperparraper860
      @dapperparraper860 6 років тому +13

      If anything wouldn't this theory apply more to Charmander since he has a hard time with the first two gyms, and it would thus be teaching a similar message to Magikarp about sticking with it and continuing to train a pokemon even if its hard(and learn metal claw in leafgreen). Either that or Charmander teaches you to think outside the box by using pokemon like Mankey for fighting type moves, or nidoran for double kick thus teaching you not to rely on only one pokemon, or type of pokemon, and help encourage a more varied team composition. Bulbasaur on the other hand creams the first two gyms and squirtle has no problem with brock, and can atleast resist mistys water type moves. Thus charmander forces the player to learn more about the environment and type matchups earlier in the game when compared too Squirtle or bulbasaur.

    I gotta throw out my two favorite pokemon:
    Hypno and Seviper...
    Hypno is a nice wall with special attack and physical attack option that surprise me a lot... It sucks he lost his hypnosis in sun and moon (from 70% accuracy which sucks to 60% which sucks more), but he did gain Dazzling Gleam which has served me well against the Dark types he is weak to...
    Seviper makes my day in story playthroughs because he is like a lesser rayquaza, and that's really handy... I use Sludge Wave/Earthquake/Flamethrower/Crunch and he's a good mixed sweeper for that, but Coil, Swords Dance, Gastro Acid, and Shed Skin with Rest is nice when it pulls through too!!

When I got to Normans gym a good number of my Pokemon had been fainted by the gym trainers and I didn't want to go all the way back to the Center so I was stuck with just little old Skitty. With the help of a couple of Oran Berries Skitty defeated all three of Normans Pokemon on her own! Once I got the Moon Stone I rewarded my unexpected NVP team member. After that day...Skitty and Delcatty moved from my "Most Likely to Forget" List to my "Forever Memory" List.

    Swalot might be a forgettable Pokemon to some but he's part of my first team in any Pokemon game! He's super strong but not strong enough to KO Legendaries making him a good catcher with yawn. Back then I didn't know there were better options for Poke-Catching Pokemon but throughout the Hoenn Region, he was super fun to use! I never knew how much a playthrough affected your feelings on Pokemon.
    Right now I'm playing through Ultra Moon and I chose Sylveon as my eeveelution in the team, Sylveon was one of my least favorite eeveelutions but oh boy that changed quickly. The Drain Kiss with Big Root plus Misty terrain combo is so good!
    In the same playthrough I wanted to pick a fire type that I've never used and I chose Salazzle for the job, I already really liked Salazzle so why not make it part of my team. To this day Salazzle is my favorite Poison type, I don't think that'll change anytime soon.

      it's true that a playthrough can really affect how you feel about a Pokémon. I used to not really like Gurdurr before I had one in White. I had planned on only using him for the normal type gym, but then he basically ended up carrying my entire team, so I have a soft spot in my heart for him now ☺️

Not to mention that it had way too many plot points in it. So, a few years later, I was playing a randomizer Nuzlocke, and only having a few Pokemon, I pretty much had to catch a Joltic. It was a pretty decent Pokemon, and lasted quite a while.

    I, for one, have grown to appreciate garchomp. When I first saw its prevolve, I had very low hopes for it. I didn't even really care if it was a pseudo legendary. That is, until it became a gabite. For the last few gyms, it was pretty useful. I kept overleveling it until it reached a level high enough for the elite 4. I finally evolved my gabite into a garchomp, and believe me, I was SHOCKED. This thing SWEEPED Cynthia, and OWNED the elite 4 in Pokemon X. From then on, I always put a garchomp on my team. I traded it to the new Pokemon games I got, and then assembled the rest of my team. We'll always be bros forever, Godzilla

    Gulpin and Swalot. In a normal game, i would have never even thought of capturing one. Then Pokemon Rejuvenation come to my attention, i saw a shiny gulpin and decided to capture it. Pokemon Rejuvenation was a hard game, and i needed to try everything i had in hand, so i decided to use gulpin to help me against venam, poison vs poison.
    This little guy had a good defense and was able to help me endure a lot of pokemon, acid spray is a devastating move, add a good yawn before it, and slowly you eliminate all special defense the enemy had. Making even not effective moves really powerfull. This guy helped me a lot in those pokemon bosses.

      @@emperorcubone Pokemon Rejuvenation and Pokemon Reborn, those 2 are pokemon fan games, really hard but with a really interesting story to boot.
      I feel obligated to warn you, that those games you will worry of their IV and EV training as soon as posible. And unlike the normal pokemon games, you can see in the summary how good are those numbers (IV/EV), also both of them are not finished yet (thought you will be playing for days because they are massive).
      The community can help you if you are in a hard spot, and you can even ask for a pokemon if you really wan something specific. Though the charm of the game is trying to pass with what you have at hand. Another warning, is time consuming too xD.

    Two Pokemon I’ve grown to appreciate are Gogoat & Drapion.
    For gogoat, i decided to use it in my Y team, because I already had a froakie & charmander, & felt it was appropriate to round out the fire-water-grass trio. Turns out it was better than I ever expected. I particularly remember 3 things about it; 1, it was holding a rocky helmet, which is always convenient. Secondly, when I was fighting Ramos, I was struggling against his gogoat, & my own skiddo was somehow able to beat it. But the highlight for me was the 3rd instance; where I was fighting the champion. I had just used gogoat to beat one of the Pokemon, causing gogoat to level up & want to learn EARTHQUAKE. It was as if gogoat was truly giving it’s all at that moment & I will forever cherish it as a result.
    For Drapion, I wanted to use a new team for the isle of armor. And I caught a skorupi. I was interested in using Drapion because I liked its design and ... not much else. Turns out I underestimated the difficulty of the isle of armor & it was a great help. When it evolved it became one of my strongest team members & I appreciate it as a result. I definitely plan on using it when legends arceus comes out.

    Kinda the same with ribombee, I thought it was just another bug. I have one on my team and she’s great!
    For me glalie (since he’s in your thumbnail) was just... there. I preferred Froslass and I thought its Mega was odd looking. I never played oras so I didn’t know how it was competitively. Well one day I was on bulbapedia and I was reading about mega glalie. Apparently the energy from mega evolving dislocated its jaw. I thought that was so cool and then its crazy design made sense. And its ability refrigerate is really good!
    And finally, Snorlax. I wasn’t a big fan of how slow it was and i thought he was just that annoying Pokémon blocking the bridge or whatever. When I got Sun the snorlium z event was going on so I got the munchlax. I decided to use it on my team. It’s a pretty decent wall on its own so now I’m trying to work on his speed. His Z move is so cute and I love it!

    I was always a Blastoise kid, and never gave the Bulbasaur line much thought. It wasn't until my playthrough of Y that I grew to appreciate it. I picked Froakie as my starter and already had a Fletchinder on my team, so I didn't really need Squirtle or Charmander for my team, so I picked Bulbasaur. Poison being strong against Fairy, plus Leech Seed and Poison Powder/Toxic really helped catching Pokemon, especially when my Pokemon inevitably got much stronger against the wild Pokemon I encountered.
    When I played Diamond for the first time, I picked Murkrow because I figured having a Dark type Pokemon couldn't hurt, plus it still filled my Flying type slot. Through my playthrough, it really did help a lot, especially against the Ghost gym.
    During my first playthrough of Alpha Sapphire, I picked Torchic as my starter since it was my starter in my first playthrough, and I figured that a Grass Pokemon could be useful. Since Breloom's Fighting type would've been redundant, I picked up a Roselia to try it out. It proved to be a really useful addition to my team, especially once I evolved it.
