@TheNonSeverus - So apparently there are people saying this feature doesn't exist on their KP3 but basically what you do is, record a sample - once the sample is recorded into the sample bank, hold the shift button and the sample bank button. it will flash double zeroes. then press the program knob like a button (upper right hand corner of the unit) it SHOULD then flash "3 r.-"
@maxime859 good question. this is a tricky part of the kp3. to change the way the sample is triggered you actually have to hold SHIFT and then select your SAMPLE BANK. After that you need to actually PRESS the program knob (like you would a button) and that will bring up the sample trigger options which you can scroll trough using that same knob.
Question. Does changing sample trigger only work with loop samples? Or one-shot? No matter what, when I do this and press the knob down it keeps me in the cut/slice sample option. Wont take me to the screen that shows the different sample trigger types. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks

Basically once you hit the sample bank button the sample will play from the beginning and will continue to play as long as you hold the button down. Once you release the button the sample will stop.
Hey guys, the manual says this: "The setting selected here is disabled when the sample program (from the program SMP.1 to CRS.4) mode is selected or when the trigger is set to turn on or off by MIDI message." I don't get it. I have the same thing as others here that I only see "0.0" and the BPM knob doesn't change it. Can anyone help me?
@ptr362 in that case i think you want the 3rd way demonstrated. It will trigger the sample and then loop the sample indefinitely until you hit the button again. Once you hit the button again the sample will stop - but if you hit it again it will play again from the beginning.
@bringnoise77 I would not use the Kp3 in place of a DJ mixer if that's what you're asking. The kp3 is simply an effects processor. You can crossfade two samples in the sample banks. Sometimes when I DJ I use the kp3 to add reverb to the end of a song and then start a new song and sometimes that blending helps, but I would not use as a mixer. But yeah, as long as you have your DJ mixer running in to your kp3 via the RCA inputs in the back, and your RCA outputs running to your speakers.
I'm somewhat new to the KP3. Got it last week. And, this may be a very simple thing I'm missing(Forgive my noobness) but, I do this exactly as in the video except, I keep bringing up the slicer settings rather than the trigger settings. What am I doing wrong?
For anyone out there trying to figure out why this isn't working for you it's because you need to update your operating system. If you go to korg.com you can download the 2.0 operating system for free and you'll be good to go!

hello! I was wondering if there is a way to trigger a short sample and not have it loop. I'm working on a live set and want my korg KP3 to play a 3 second sample and stop on it's own, so I don't have to click it twice to start and stop it, is this possible?
I was curious so I looked in to this. If you record a sample in to a sample bank, and press the pad again before it's gone through the whole loop, it'll record it as a one-shot. Meaning it will only play once when you hit it. If you want it to play the whole sample without having to hold the pad down, do SHIFT+[sample bank pad] and make sure 3. r. - is enabled.
When the zeros flash, press the PROGRAM/ BPM knob. Hope this helps, I had the same problem (even after updating to 2.0) but after read the manual it was all in there - the 2.0 updated manual. hope this helps
Hey the samples that you save on the SD card have to be named 00.wav or what ever. I put them in a folder on the SD card but I can't see them. What is the work around so I'm not getting lost with a bunch of samples all named 00.wav? Also if you plug a mic up will it literary use your voice like a traditional vocoder? I haven't bought one yet these are just questions I have before I do purchase one. You seem to know what I'm the hell you are doing.
@Onewerdy i have heard a lot of complaints that this option is not available on all units! i have only messed with one other unit beside my own (huhhuh) and it included this feature. I read about it in the manual. that's how I found out about it.
Hi, on my KP3, when I press the SHIFT button and the sample button, I have the menu to change the volume of the sample, I can slice setting and set the start point by scrolling the PROGRAM knob but I don't find the menu to change the sample triggers. Any idea why?

At the mo, my kp3 is always on 0 so there is a slight pause between a sample relooping which is not good for a drum beat etc. Is there anyway i could have 1 as my default so it just plays continuously. Everybody on here saying to update, but the comments are from 7 years ago. When you try to update now, it seems like you can't if you have the latest OS running on your computer. Did Korg really just forget about this thing? I just want to update it, damn it!
@GloriousJones I believe it is a firmware issue that is causing the confusion. Version 1 does not support the trigger options and instead only allows for a playback start point edit (the screen displays 0. 0 rather than the #. -.-). Upgrade to the version 2.0 of the firmware and the problem should be solved.
@KWHCoaster Apparently the updater is not currently compatible with Mac OS 10.6.8 or later...WTF KORG? Any suggestions besides trying to find a comp that is older?
hello.i have a mini kaoss pad,and i want to buy a kp3.i use them to beatbox and i have a question.can i get effects from the mini kaoss pad to the kp3,but only in one sample with the microphone?I mean can i put a beat for exemple on deck A,and then i want to add a bass on deck B with the effect from the mini kaoss pad?So the effect wil be only in deck B,not on the full "song"?

I'm having a similar problem that a lot of people are having. When i hit shift + the sample bank i get flashing 0's not the same menu you got in the video. I tried pushing the program button as people suggested but this also isnt working...
@GloriousJones My KP3 came with an "New OS version 2.0 available" printed on the box. My KP3 had v1.04 on it and did not having these looping modes. I just updated to v2.0 and now I have them and working like in your demo. I guess it was cheaper to make new boxes for old inventory and let us update the KP3 rather than update the firmware themselves. Newer units probably shipped with v2.0.
Can you record your inputs with effects straight to the pads? Say for example I have an MPC I want to play into the lopper pads live, can do a drums loop with a kaoss pad filter effect on it at the same time so that pad has the effect as part of the new loop?

I notice in your video that you, maxime and I are doing the same thing, but it sounds like in our units this only allows us to shift the start point of the sample. Hold shift, press sample, turn knob (or press and turn knob) has the same outcome+ shift sample start. For some reason, I can see that when you hit shift and the sample button, it brings up a different menu on the screen.
I had the same problem but it's an easy fix. Go to KORG.com and you can update the operating system on the KP3 to 2.0. Once you've got the new operating system in place it works like a charm. If you have any questions feel free to PM me.

There is a thing that you can trigger the sample even without the update by pressing SHIFT+TAP, and it will trigger sample from beginning!

@coughlintm the kp3 allows you to record 16 beats at any tempo above at or above 73 BPM. weird, i know. below 73 BPM it only goes to 8.

does the kkp3 have the 16 beat rcoerding limitation like the kaossilator, where you can only record 16 beats over something like 110 bpms?

There is no quantize function on the KP3... which sucks...
Samuel Gault shift + tap seems to sort of quantize my loops in sync better. Thanks for this l'll try that on mine, great help!
