One of my earliest gaming memories was playing this with my older sister and cousin when it first came out. Today, Im still reall surprised at how fun this game is. Most people would write this off as just a Little Mermaid game, but it has some good depth for what it is.
One of my favorites. Grew up with family friends who were female and at their house as kids we would play this. I got so good that I feel like I can speed run it if the controls weren't a bit clunky at times.
its a blink and you'll miss it thing, but its kinda cool that you can play as king Triton in this, which might possibly be the first time you can play an old man in a game
Would you say it's similar to Ecco the dolphin? Or now looking more at it i think its actually similar to Fantasy Zone. Would you say any of these comparisons are accurate?
How in the name of the sea god would you ever know to swim DOWN to get into the boss area on the first level? I've been trying everything, searching for a final key or a switch or something because it won't let me swim off the right side of the screen, like in Ecco. I looked up the manual, I went to a message board, I read a review, and I come here and you just SWIM DOWN INTO A SOLID ROCK FACE? RIGHT NEXT TO THE OPEN SIDE OF THE SCREEN? Have they never seen an underwater game section in their lives? Furious. I am furious.
It was actually released the same year as Ecco, apparently - not sure what month, but Ecco was December so potentially it pipped Ecco to market. God I am such a nerd.
Yea it's not an Ecco rip off they both came out the same month. Definitely different engines as well. Blue Sky would improve huge as the years went on making Genesis games like alot of Western developers. To me this game is mediocre which is perfectly fine for a licensed cash in.
Have you played the Sega Master System version? That one is actually worse. It's pretty much the same as the Sega Genesis version, with clunkier controls and an ear-bleeding soundtrack thrown in as a bonus.
That sounds fun! It's a shame, there were a number of port downs that ended up like that. But, most things on the Master System make my ears want to bleed! lol
This game seems like it could pass as a prequel to the film, as there's no mention of Eric. Then again, it would beat the animated series and that DTV prequel Ariel's Beginning, and be better than the DTV sequel.
Man, this version is wayyyyy better then that crappy Capcom's version. Genesis really made great games. Sega was always ahead of it's time. Now Sony Playstation is the most successful and dominant video game console.
Ultimate version of Disney’s Little Mermaid. *Ursula* All I want is… your voice!” *Ariel* okay… *BLEB BLEBBLEEEEHB BLEEHB BLEHB BLEEEEB BLEEEEEEEBBLEEEEEEB BLEEEB BLEBBBBB*
It's best to stick with the NES and Game Boy versions than this and the Master System/Game Gear versions because the SEGA version is bad, but the Capcom version is far better.
This game is very accurate. I loved the part of the movie where Ariel fought countless undead pirate skeletons as she explored the shipwreck
😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣 YOU MADE CHOKE ON MY SODA!!!
@@thepanda1044- Yeah...and the part where a bunch of smaller sharks came out of the big shark's mouth, lol! 😆
@@JohnnyProctor9 LoL 😂
Yeah the lava demon monster head boss was my favourite character in the film.
Well if it was just like the movie it would be pretty short

I had fun playing this game. Brings back memories.
got to say the 16-bit rendition of Under the Sea is pretty good!
This was my favorite game...I wasn't much of a gamer as a kid ...but this was one I played countless times!
Boss 1: 5:27 Lava Monster
Boss 2: 13:18 Giant Great White Shark
Boss 3: 18:02 Giant Sea Snakes
Final Boss: 25:40 Ursula
I literally remember playing this forever ago
Como puteaba con este jueguito. Era una garcha y encima difícil. Que recuerdos.
Vos sos una garcha, mal educado, porteño ordinario, cada palabra que dicen es un insulto, boludin a cuerda

Those boss designs scared me as a kid who the hell came up w them.
The smell of your butt scares me very bad
Satan, probably.
Most bosses in old games were nightmare fuel! Always mad faces and chaotic music full of peril! 😱
@@LionmaneElsie08 True but man this were exceptionally out of place capcom games had more organic ones.
Its like a simplyfied version of Ecco the Dolphin.
Except Ariel doesn’t send out sound waves.
@@toddlindsay8846 True.
The back ground sound font of the first level sounds like the same from the first area of Kid Chameleon...
God I never get past the first level, I would have never knew I had to go in some rock to move forward 5:21
._. hasta el de la nes tenía un mejor final
Este parece tipo
" Congratulations"
This was my first megadrive game
First level, swimming around the ocean floor with happy music.
First level boss: literal hell
Well... that escalated quickly
At least she can tolerate heat.
This was my favorite game besides Sonic... i was prolly 5yo
Neved played this version, only NES.
i loved this game
Never played this before, but it is similar to Lv. 2 of Ariel's story on the Disney Princess GBA game.
Whoaaa I finally found this game! Love itttt🥺
It's so sad that Disney acquired Blue Sky after the Fox merge and screwed them over
They should have made The Little Mermaid an RPG instead.
its a blink and you'll miss it thing, but its kinda cool that you can play as king Triton in this, which might possibly be the first time you can play an old man in a game
Ariel 14:25 Alanta mermaid 🧜🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♂️🧜♂️
King Triton 👑 health ❤ sebastian crab 🦀
Cave duel and eels Ursula key 🗝️🗝️🗝️
It looks pretty janky next to Capcom's game based on the movie, but Sega's effort is alright. Nothing stellar, but it's alright.
NintendoComplete
The NES game was better.
Yeah it's kind of a like a reverse of Aladdin where the Genesis version was superior.
I use to have this game back then it was fun I didn't get to finish it.
Would you say it's similar to Ecco the dolphin? Or now looking more at it i think its actually similar to Fantasy Zone. Would you say any of these comparisons are accurate?
While not Fantasia or Tale Spin bad, this game is also not Castle or World of Illusion good either.
This one time where Nintendo does what the genesisn’t
Oh yeah, the NES game was so much better than this
might wanna workshop that phrase a bit more XD
What a nostalgia.. 😢
This is a great game
Fun fact: I knew the music style was so familiar and it’s the same ones who did Action 52 sega version
This so reminds me of Echo the Dolphin. Probably inspired my its gameplay.

this music is surprisingly not painful for a genesis ost
for some reason the music makes me think of The Secret of Monkey Island.......and not in a good way.
It's actually one of the worse sounding ones.
I see a eal on statue head like Medusa
I had this game and it was broken.. it never went pass the SEGA logo.. (probably because it was a bootleg cartridge)
Looks like an Ecco the Dolphin ripoff. Surprising considering this is the same team that made Vectorman.
It was actually released the same year as Ecco, apparently - not sure what month, but Ecco was December so potentially it pipped Ecco to market. God I am such a nerd.

I used to love it ❤
Did Ariel sing when fightin Ursula?
Yep. Fortnite songs

Mariusz Bosy It can't be worse than the SMS version of Strider.
Tec Toy made the SMS port. Same team that also made the beyond horrible SMS port to Battletoads in Battlemaniacs
In Ariel: The Little Mermaid 1992
This game seems like it could pass as a prequel to the film, as there's no mention of Eric. Then again, it would beat the animated series and that DTV prequel Ariel's Beginning, and be better than the DTV sequel.
The series was awesome but that prequel movie sucked.
@@LaKellitayep. I want to play with her.
Is that Jeff goldblum
I'll prefer the capcom version of this game
Me acuerdo cuando era niño, me costó mucho llegar al final y perdí contra la pulpa esa, era inmortal jajajaj
I remember the opening music being at a much slower speed
Are you based in Europe? We got games in 50hz where as they were 60hz everywhere else
You played this on a PAL system, didn't you

Wow, you really think so? I'd take the NES game over the Genesis version all day long :)
How is the capcom version that bad? I actually enjoyed it
Nah ur trippin. The NES version is goated. The Genesis version is just a clone of Ecco The Dolphin.
Ultimate version of Disney’s Little Mermaid.
*Ursula* All I want is… your voice!”
*Ariel* okay… *BLEB BLEBBLEEEEHB BLEEHB BLEHB BLEEEEB BLEEEEEEEBBLEEEEEEB BLEEEB BLEBBBBB*
Crazy! She should have put copyright on her voice.
Is that from how she sings when fightin Ursula?

nice pokemon reference
Super Mario World 64 :)
The nes game was way better, played this for 5 minutes, got all the merman from level 1 and said there's better things to do then play this.
It's good to see mermen in this too. Essence of wetness.
A mer-man, pop. A mer-man!

NO DRUMS
MKB 219 there is a bit of a SMS drums if you listen carefully.
