  • Don’t know what to do with those batiks. Make a large throw quilt with 12 fat quarters, some black fabric for the lead in your window and a little yardage for borders. This is a step by step tutorial using batiks or any fabric you choose. If you enjoy the look of stained glass, then this quilt is for you. Using the chain piecing method for a quick and easy quilt.

    I like that you used fabric that actually looks like glass. Stained glass artists can use a chemical to make the solder and the came look black instead of grey so your black fabric is totally appropriate for the look of real stained glass. It looks like a fun quick quilt to make. Thanks for sharing.

    Thank you. I made a stained glass quilt 25? years ago of batiks and had forgotten how to shuffle the cuts. A couple ideas...a paper pieced center of the Nativity with the batik stained glass surrounding it like a church window--maybe a wall hanging. Or use a collection of prints (patriotic or fruits or bugs) with a little wider leading of a coordinating color.

    One inch strips, with 1/4 inch seams, will leave the dimensions of the blocks the same, no matter how many cuts or which direction you make the cuts

    Thank you so much for sharing. I have a question. How many blocks would you require fo a queen/king quilt?

    • @thequiltingcompound
      @thequiltingcompound  2 роки тому

      Maybe 20 blocks, 4 across and 5 down. You could always make the borders larger or add a third border.

  • @jennyholding5272
    @jennyholding5272 6 місяців тому

    Is your black cut on the bias? How long was each black strip?

  • @rosejohnson452
    @rosejohnson452 2 роки тому +2

    Why do 4 blocks have no yellow in them? This technique looks doable but I'd like all the colors in each block.

    • @thequiltingcompound
      @thequiltingcompound  2 роки тому +2

      Then I would say you would have to use duplicate colors. Instead of 12 different fabrics use 12 fabrics with two of each matching colors. Just a guess, I have not tried using duplicates.

    • @judithburke1539
      @judithburke1539 2 роки тому

      You might want to try alternating cuts from side to side with cuts from top to bottom. This will help you to have blocks that are more square than rectangular.

    • @paulinelarson465
      @paulinelarson465 Рік тому

      Each of these blocks has 8 sections. There are 12 different fabrics. In order for every block to contain every color, you have to cut twice more (I think) to make each block have 12 sections. If you used 8 fabrics, cut into the 8 sections, you would have every color and 8 blocks.
