@@ThePhantomLion You no longer need the mess of an emulator that are ePSXe and pSXfin to play PS1 games for a long time, since Mednafen arrived and Duckstation some years after that.
The side by side comparison is not correct... When you display the game (starts at 2:18), you put the 2 versions coming from the PS1 version, the "enhanced" and the "original". The X68000 version is 512x512 resolution game(256 x 256 with doubled pixel at 31Khz) and what you're showing here is a 15Khz 256 x 224 version, meaning that's a PS1 version. So, basically you display the 2 PS1 versions here and not the PS1 VS X68000... 😐
Graphically, both versions are stellar. The PS1 delivers a bit more though. In terms of gameplay, the PS1 title is stupendously difficult. Regardless, I'm thrilled to own Castlevania Chronicles. Great comparison. ✌🏻
@@gv82089 well to be totally honest chronicles was my first castle so i have special feelings about It, i also played rondo in the requiem collection and its awsome, id say rondo is the tecnically better but chronicles is still my favorite
Good video, with a good presentation and montage.Happy New Year and please take a look at Castlevania Lecarde Chronicles, it's a fan game, but it's a good tribute to the series.
As someone who owns an X68000, for me personally it's the more definitive way to play the game. The same way playing Rondo of Blood is on a real PC Engine is. I know 3D was the hip thing at the time. But the intro on the PS1 version just feels cheap and undetailed. I also prefer the music in the X68000 version as well. I've played them both and gameplay wise they are basically the same. However the "extras" they threw in just felt underwhelming. But if you don't want to spend a ton of money on a computer that may not work and a game that could be moldy or corrupted, it's as good as an alternative gets I suppose. You could also install an internal flash cart to your X68000 and play the game that way. It's a shame this is such a hard one to track down and play because it really is quite good. There's a ton of lost stuff on the X68k that will probably never see the light of day ever again.
Yeah, I understand why they would do CD audio on PS; they have the disc space and there isn't really midi hardware. But the sound on X68000 is fantastic, and even better if you can run midi. Currently playing through this on my MISTer Pi X68000 core with the MT32-Pi acting as a Roland midi device. It's a lot cheaper for people who want to try something like this (under $300 vs $2000 for an actual X68000 and more for a midi device).
@Mr.Pokeylope9082 yeah the system is NOT cheap. To me it's worth it. Emulating such a great system seems asinine to me. But to each their own. Not everyone has big money to drop on stupid stuff.
I honestly don't like Ayami Kojima's redesign of Simon. I love her work in Symphony of The Night, Alucard's design is brilliant and works very well for the game's purpose, but I think her style doesn't convey very well the beefiness physique of the Belmonts.
Konami was unbeatable, a true beast that became pretty much irrelevant now. The amount of AAA games that they made and never got released overseas or in home consoles is absurd.
This game is fabulous, the techno musics are a bit too much on some levels but great anyway. At that Time I thought Konami would release a Castlevania 4 remake but that’s un the trash now… Great work on the video 👍
I'm playing this on the ps1 emulator and it's glorious! So different from other Castlevanias, feels way more arcade and the graphics are awesome
How the fuck did you get a PS1 emulator to work?
@@ThePhantomLion duckstation ma boi.
Castlevanias before Symphony of the Night were all like this and I honestly preferred them

Good choice to start the new year with.
Chronicles is definitely an amazing remake with some of the best sounding remixes for Castlevania.
x68k has better music. yes techically ps1 is more improved but more orchestry sound doesm't equals better.

If you activated the audio MIDI of the X68000 the comparison would be fairer.

The ps1's soundtrack takes the g out of graveyard
Outstanding as always thanks my friend and happy new year!!!🙂🎆👍

Love the playstation bloody tears remix, awesome video!
Many thanks ❤️

In retrospective, this is better than SCV4.
I hope Konami re-releases it in another Castlevania collection with Vampre Killer and Castlevania Legends.
I have a idea to get the ps2 games into nintendo
Yeah, they should also put Haunted Castle as well (It is in the Arcade collection I know).
The "Okay game (Chronicles) + some bad ones" collection
I have an original copy of “Vampire Killer “(European version)so I am good either way.

I don't care much for the PS1 port "cinematic" but everything else seems worthwhile.
Give me the original! It reminds me a little bit of Spatterhouse with the music and gore on the title screen. The good old days......
Good video, horrendous scanlines, not interger align between them.

why you put scanlines on your videos???
