You are 100% correct with your review! I have been shooting for a long time with Nikon full frame cameras but I am very disappointed with my 28 to 300mm lens but I’m extremely happy with my 200 to 500 mm lens because it’s so sharp!📷
@@Patto2276 I don’t go by the reviews all the time because I know several people that have this lens and the results are absolutely remarkable! Yes there are much better lenses but you will be paying between $6,000.00-$12,000.00 for them!
I own all but the 58mm. The 28-300 really isn’t that impressive on the D850. It works fine on lower res camera bodies. As stated already, your list should have the 70-200 f/2.8E FL ED VR. It’s my most used lens on the D850.
@@Patto2276 I ditched the D850 in August, and got the Z9, Here the 70-200 2.8 FL is much Sharper and the 28-300 is about the same as it was on the D850. I tried the Nikon 24-200mm as a replacement for the 28-300, as some said it was sharper. At near focus the 28 -300 was sharper, and at further distances the 24-200 was better at 200mm than the 28-300 was at 200mm. I didn't keep it. I more recently bought the 24-120 f4 S Lens. It is very sharp, even wide open. I was able to shoot the 24-200 @200 at 1/3sec, and the image was steady, the 24-120 doesn't have VR, but the IBS still allowed it shake free at 1/6sec at 120mm. with the d810, I have gotten shakefree with the 200-500 5.6 at 500mm at 1/15 sec. The Z9 IBS did a good job on an old nikkor 50mm 1.8 AF(not even a D version), that I bought in 1990, at 1/20sec handheld night shots.
Go to the settings with the pencil and search for aperture settings, you can choose right there that you wanna set it manually! This trick saved me from buying a new lens! Worked with my d850 and the fee error is gone
List like this are never particularly good. The Nikon 58mm is an ok lens, but it is soft wide open and needs to be stopped down to f/2 really before the lens really starts to come into it's own. Add the price, it is cheaper to buy the Voigtlander 58mm f/1.4 Nokton, which is manual focus, but performs very well at f/2, and costs 1/3 the price of the Nikon. As for the 200-500mm. I own the lens and find it is a little short for a lot of nature photography. Optically, it is better than the Sigma and and Tamron 150-600mm, also having the advantage of a constant f/5.6, but having the extra 100mm would have been nice. Nikkor 35mm f/1.4G, Very good lens. Can't say anything bad about it. The Tamron 35mm f/1.4 is a great lens and much cheaper, if anyone wants a 35mm f/1.4 (I prefer it over the Sigma). Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8G. Again a very good lens. Personally, I like the lighter 16-35mm f/4 but both are very good. Nikkor 28-300mm It is an all round lens. Nothing particularly exciting about the lens. Two lenses I would suggest for this list. Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8E FL ED. Fabulous lens, better than the older VR2, though it is expensive. Again the Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 G2 is worth looking it, it isn't as good as the Nikkor, but it is much cheaper. For portraiture. The Nikkor 105mm f/1.4E is a great lens, though it is expensive. It weighs less than a 1kg, and is superior optically to the Nikkor 85mm f/1.4. As a bonus. I am going to suggest the Zeiss Otus lenses. Optically they are superb but they are heavy, lack weather sealing and are manual focus. Personally, I prefer these on mirrorless cameras, but the D850's manual focus does allow for reliable manual focus conformation, which the older D800, found very hard.
That’s a greats lens as I own it but you’ll need to change your settings on a full frame to shoot in DX mode since it’s a DX lens. In that case the lens quality would be almost identical.
There's no such thing as a particular lens being best for a particular camera. Just use the best lenses you have which match your camera mount, made to use with your camera, and you will get always high quality images. The camera brand, or style, or type, has nothing to do with lenses. And the better your camera is, the easier it will be for your camera to reveal the weaknesses of any lens. The lowest common denominator is always revealed in such situations.
this has not been made by a photographer... the D850 is a high end professionnel body.... the 28-300 does not render the full potentiel of the 45 megapixel sensor. the 35mm 1.4 of tamron is the best lens of all for the D850 not the nikkor.... useless

With every thing, there are trade-offs and some options are generally better than others, but that is NOT the case with the 14-24. The Sigma 14-24 is heavier and it's a Sigma :-( but generally on par. NOT better and certainly not MUCH better. The Tamron 15-30 doesn't cover the same focal range so it's a non-starter. Whatever else you're referring to isn't even close! Man your opinion is... well, not BS, but not wonderful.

All this nonsense about lens compatibility? According to Nikon all gold ring lenses are suitable, so what if you 14 -24 is not as sharp as some 3rd party lens, if it is all you have work with it. Third party lenses are not all that over time at least with Nikon you know what you are getting. Sharpness? FFs just take some decent images, it is not all about sharpness. Nikon lenses are some of the best! The 85 1.4 is not as sharp as the 1.8 (apparently) but I could not give a tinkers cuss, I prefer the quality of the image that it renders as apposed to the 1.8. Plus I love using it because it is chunky and looks fantastic on the camera. I know so shallow, but WTF! Actually never heard so much tat on UA-cam in the description of lenses, sorry but the end recommended glass is complete tat! Do you actually use any of these lenses to find out what they are really like? 28- 300 zoom is not a piece of glass to put onto an 850. So bad we would not even buy one!
"Tat"? Can you translate that to American English? Like a lot of lenses, the 28-300 has a purpose. Highlighting the D850's resolution is not one of them, but doesn't make it worthless. If you're on vacation and need to keep weight and size down, nothing beats it. Downsample the D850's photos for social media, or whatever you're going to do with vacation photos, and it's just as good as on EVERY OTHER Nikon. Better, in fact, because while you're changing lenses, the guy with the 28-300 got the shot.
