I'm from Canada. What is your advice? Same here being bullied, mobbed, gaslighting, harassed at the hospital for over 12 years. I've happened to be the top worker for 38 years and have never been suspended. These bullies are jealous and miserable people. Union, manager, HR and the police are all totally useless. Bullies are lazy bums and stupid managers are scared of the bullies. They say about me I'm crazy, I drink, I'm a stalker all bs defamation of character. The biggest mistake since they removed disciplinary measures. They should arrest the bullies and fire the manager. Action speaks louder than nasty words. It destroyed my reputation. I will never quit to make these lazy bums ever win. If I decide to transfer to another hospital and may start gaslighting, smearing and bullying me once again, I don't know all the new managers etc. like in every department like now. So best to not change hospitals. I will never let bullies try to control me from quitting. Just don't react and not try to defend yourself which will only go back and forth making me look even more guilty. Action always speaks louder than words. Just best ignore them and find another easier target. Never let these low life lazy bums win ever win.
Yeah the bad manager just goes job to job managing different people and sticks around a few years until he eventually gets fired or something happens and then he goes and ruins other people's lives. I always wondered how these people get to be managers in the first place
@@ZacharyWhittall ...Yes - absolutely correct! The most prevalent 'business model' today is the ''treat your people like shit, pay them peanuts and keep all the money for yourself'' approach!
Why did I walk away from a job I loved? Many reasons: 1. I felt unappreciated. 2. I did not feel safe physically or emotionally. 3. No room for growth professionally or financially. 4. My concerns were ignored deflected by gaslighting. 5. Unethical requests. 6. I did not trust my employers.
I worked for a company where my manager told me not to speak to the executives and he was right, the executives seperated themselves from the rest of us and if we spoke up in meetings or gave ideas we were completely ignored as if we werent even in the room. That is the epitomy of bad management.
Yesss I don't understand it. I use to go above and beyond at the workplace but not anymore, I do my job and nothing more. The lazy employees were for some reason the bosses favorite, if I were caught standing around for a minute the boss would ask what I was doing while some workers just walked around and did nothing all day
@@Thekappa same position man but just today my littles sister just told me do what I gotta do to be happy, don't always gotta listen to everyone just take their advice into consideration but end of the day it's your life there will always be another job
True enough Mark but so what if you are being treated like a piece of crap. ANY employer can give you a damn little paycheck every week just to pay your Bill's.
@@Senator_Senart I'd rather have the money to be honest. I'm performing admin/data entry tasks for minimum wage, and he seems to think it's enough just to call me "good girl" once in a while. But I've seen similar jobs pay more, so what gives?
@@TaxingIsThieving OK I'll give you my real life example then..... I just quit my employer of 15 years last August 2021. At my last employer for several years I had a group of coworkers and bosses who where consistently and persistently harassing me for not staying at work as late as they where and denying me about half of my vacation requests because according to them it made them "look bad" when I worked faster then them and used my vacation time. They also consistently and persistently harrased me nearly every weekend to work overtime by ringing my phone off the hook on my days off (to cover for my lazy coworkers who wouldn't show up) and/or scheduling me for excessive mandatory overtime I did NOT want because of my health issues. I told them repeatedly that I am to sick to work 6 nights a week but they did not care, they kept scheduling me to work 6 nights a week anyways because they where understaffed. (hence they where showing me no appreciation whatsoever) When I left this abusive employer I was making a little bit over $23 per hour but I found a similar job which is a lot less physicaly demanding that pays $22 per hour but now I'm working the day shift instead of the night shift now and I no longer have to pay dues to that stupid union I was a part of (that basically did nothing for me personally)..... and the funny thing is I've been making more per week with my new employer at $22 per hour instead of the $23 something I made from the job I left and my new employer doesn't call me on my days off or schedule me for mandatory overtime on my days off. So the $1 and change per hour cut I took was worth it to leave all the a-holes I was working with at my last job.
Good Workers are seen as Doormats by most jobs. That's the straight up Truth. I had one manager who never failed to say she appreciates me. She resigned though.
Stupidity and lacking common sense I remember a "manager" that would pile me with work...far too much while she sat in the office trying to learn English whilst I was run off my feet she had also delegated me half hee work to do...she tryed to make me like her assistant ....titke should have been dogs body when I confronted her on it she made out she was so busy that she couldn't help me which resulted in me not being able to complete my tasks correct...it ended up my work was getting checked by her boss ( which should of been her work) she was good at dekegating and I got pulled over the coals for it not being correct( they we're being picky also ) I started getting a bollocking of her naaty stupid boss whilst the other girl manager just stood there in silence enjoying it ...this was all office dynamics where they felt threaded that my real boss was due back and was was all for me and had want we me to get the promotion that my boss had I wasn't really bothered but they seemed to think i was I think everything had been going swimmingly for them as my real boss was not here this stupid mabageer jumped to wrong conclusion about me.. it was crazy. I ended in tears due to the way she spoke to me and the full feeling I was being ganged up on...and it was her little side kick on the room that had been hitching about me clueless as to how incapable my immediate boss was of doing her job . That same person was I think narrassit and a terrible boss as she could not see by her own nose. Each time every Xmas eve o was put on early shift where I was working with her I treated it. I would be on early shift and she would come in later...I was due to finish at 3pm and her later but each time I went to leave even after my time she would go in huff I think she expected me to finish at the same time as her even although I had been in earlier than her by 3 hours ! It was always the person that strated at 6am finished 3pm and the person stared 9am worked till 5pm or earlier I don'know what part of this she did not understand...it was Xmas eve and she was my boss and my partner at the time had to wait a hour or more as she made me feel so bad for wanting to leave on time it was ridiculous...my partner at the time has been in and out of hospital having treatment for cancer which she knew and I had to keep him waiting outside. Hated her with a passion . Not only that as a manager she was very petty and lacked good people skills she would make you feel bad if you made a mistake she was egotiscal and stupid alot of the ones who worked under her did not see her bad side as she was lovely to them...she just treated me and a few others that way....glad to be out if that place...
It’s one thing to not get thanked, it’s quite another thing when a lazy do nothing gets thanked and praised for their good work, while you get yelled at and handed more work!
So true, I had one like that. He tried to pile more work onto me when I am over 90% plus full work load and those who hides in the car for a few hours (I saw him in there and not showing up in his post) or taking hour long breaks (15 min is the rule) get to slack off. Sure, he is looking to promote me, but a 4% (50 cents a hour) increase in pay and the title hardly compensates the amount of extra work especially I'm already working more than most staff in the department.
@@moulyg7968 I know exactly what you mean!!, I too was working with a lazy person who would not pull his own weight. Not only was this co-worker lazy and a do-nothing but also he stole credit for work he did not do, he was also a pompous ass kisser. When it came time to do a task he pulled a "David Copperfield" and disappeared. And when quitting time came he reappears. Then he had the audacity to criticize others for their work. Needless to say, he got a raise and a promotion, and I quit, I'm not going to work under a person who did nothing, and is now a manager. I found a job where the management does appreciate me and values my contribution. And yes, I get raises. Last I heard my former place of employment has employee retention problems.
It's not a conspiracy or a boys club why that happens. Bad managers fail to act and cowar away from situations where they actually will have to do their jobs (like fire bad employees.)

This is why I’m starting a business. Workplaces these days are a joke I would rather make more money working for myself instead of dealing with toxic coworkers and toxic managers in a toxic work environment while getting underpaid… It’s not worth it.
Me in 2001. In less than 2-years I more than doubled my income. I also had more time for family and self. It was hard, but easier than putting up with my prior employer.
I've walked out of plenty of jobs because of corrupt, violent, and deranged managers. The companies prefer to keep them as employees, so I walk. And I've been told many times by other employees that have stayed on at these companies, that they suffered a great deal after I left, because I was the only one there that knew WTF I was doing and how to do it right the first time. Two companies lost several thousands of dollars of business the first month after I walked out. But you know what? THEY DON'T CARE!! None of them have ever given a damn, even when they had entire departments of employees filing complaints on these "managers". Companies DO NOT CARE!
I’m working my ass off for 50 to 60 hours a week and I’m salaried, so I don’t get paid overtime. I’m constantly pushing myself to learn all I can, do more than I did the day before, support my team and be positive despite people quitting left and right. Today, my big boss told me I was an “adequate employee”. Well, adequate employees I know don’t work 60 hours a week so guess who is working 40 from now on? It will free up time at night to start looking for a new job.
Hope you've found a new job by now, that sounds so shitty. My boss piles on the work because he's afraid we're wasting time. I literally take no breaks. Not allowed to do overtime, yet expected to finish it all in hugely unrealistic timelines. I don't know what will ever be enough and my guess is, there is no limit to how hard they would push. So that's it.
4 years in a company.. No pay raise...no appreciation... 60 hours a week.. One day off... Rotational shift 24.7...... Never complained... Never created problems...a year ago a new guy comes along becomes friends with managers... There is an IJP... Guess what he is the managers favorite...... Its a corrupt world we live in...
My direct manager is great and said I am great on the performance review but the stupid director of the company stated that I made a bunch of mistakes which I told my manager I was never informed by this person and frankly the comment is completely false and he agreed. That comment on the review was removed.
A lot of these managers are narcissists and if you hold your breath waiting for appreciation, you're going to be sorely disappointed. I'm starting to think they all recognize each other and favor each other.
That's why most people these days stay at a job no more than a year because they see no benefit staying any longer especially when there's constant change of policy regulations and management.
There is no good reason to stay at a job more than 3 yrs now. You will have learned all you can for the next job, any raise you've gotten so far will get you thru the drive-thru twice a week, and unless you know someone you can forget advancement. This is the reality now.
Other reasons why good genuine employees leave bad workplace are - When manager promotes toxic mind games and politics - When managers favour selected people - When managers make you extend your work hours without promoting you with good rewards - When managers don't want any feedback from you, all they want is that you agree with them all the time.
Definitely.luckily I am in a job that has a union so they can't force overtime and pay raises are annually through the union contract. I am good with my direct manager. I just can't stand the director of our department. She is absolutely terrible. She is not a leader at all and she plays favorites. She is not fit for her position.
Some managers lie and manipulate you into believing that it’s your fault for their mistakes. Some doesn’t know how to lead by example which you can’t get any backup support from them and throw you under the bus.
The reason why so many managers are so terrible is because they were promoted above the level of their qualifications. A manager slot came open and a person who was probably reasonably good at their job was promoted because they had been with the company the longest, not because they were qualified for the manager's job.
The manager I had at my janitorial job got the position because she was friends with management. That’s the only reason why she got the job even though she only did half the job I did. Good riddance because she was prejudice anyways. Because she preferred Hispanics and always kept putting Hispanic workers over everyone else.
I have left a nice paying job for a 17% paycut because management has changed and the new manager had unrealistic expectations and gets frustrated so easily. I am now 3 years for the company I switched to and it's the best decision I have made. I am still not making as much as I used to, but my manager is a very nice lady who knows how to treat her employees like human being. I can say that she have a lot of loyal employees. If she decide to move, I know people would want to follow her.
Good for you. And you’ve proven that $ isn’t everything. That’s something that some people don’t understand. They think if they pay enough they can do/say whatever.
@@LeadershipwithMike I agree with you. Managers who take interest in your strengths, weaknesses, and your capabilities advising you and challenging you will, over time, lead to a happier work life and, possibly, more money!
i was at a Job for 20 years but the last 5 years under my new boss I was giving blood sweat and tears to that Job but I never got a thank you just more work, but all the lazy ones got a thank you but not me ...it hurt it really did... one day I just left the Job and I have never looked back... I earn a lot less now but I am happy
I hope that you have recovered. Sometimes, you need to, as you said, "leave and never look back". Happy comes from a good state of mind. I understand a toxic environment and have experienced it myself for 5 years as well! Best to you.
A sincere thank you takes so little time. It’s a shame that some are so socially inept that they either don’t notice food work or take food work completely for granted.
I’m in the same spot. Looking for something new even if it’s less pay. I’m so over work and stress out that my blood pressure has spike. Looking forward to being away from that place.
I worked at Walmart and my biggest mistake was telling them I'm "open" and I was a "yes" guy. Completely took advantage of my kindness and made me do extra work while my team sat on there asses while watching me panic. "Let's see how much the new guy can handle" I took my day off and never returned. Threw that vest away as well. My manager made me constantly come in on my days off. Very rude
I quit my job today because my manager was forcing me to sign a pay cut, but before that he started picking on my and belittle me .I had to save my sanity so I left.
This hits home to me...I feel like I was bullied at work with the amount of work load they put on me. Then when I can’t keep up, the blame goes on me! It’s really heartbreaking to be honest. That’s life, I guess.
Yep, the guy who's constantly dropping jobs, forgetting and losing shit, too much on his plate and can't delegate, gets a company dinner for pulling overtime and fixing one big issue. I take on more than my role, loyal employee, accomplish everything we're assigned, but their timelines are unrealistic so I'm the bad guy. I'm so done with this feeling of not enough when I know how much I've done for them over the years. They just want a workhorse they can pile on and forget about.
People are literally walking out in the middle of their shifts at my job right now. I was running a classroom for over a month by myself, got it together and organized and ready. They hired a new person I helped get her up to speed. Then I get moved out of the class room a week later into another where I have to spend another month getting it ready cuz that teacher quite without warning. The very next day they gave the NEW GIRL an award for having the classroom I WAS JUST IN BY MYSELF an award for being ready and organized.....................I have been at this place a year and have never gotten any recognition like that.........
This is awesome information. Real, honest, and straight to the point. Poor leadership has always been a factor in my decisions to leave a job. They were either unappreciative, cheap, flat out liars, tried to hold me back, or were straight up toxic.
been there all of them were like u describe . those places love me so much and because of it people misunderstood me . They think i love changing jobs every 1-1.5 years what else toxic .
Managers that are trained by the company to weed out the older more experienced employees to get their promotion numbers up. They create a toxic work environment that causes high turnover. Lack of a simple thank you for a job well done.
Low salary is the biggest reason for turnover, such as benefits, pay, under staffed due to not paying enough to get the necessary labor force, overworking to make up for mismanagement, etc
@michaelbrent4430 buddy… if your are god manager like you claim to be, I’m not talking bout you. If calling me a fool makes you feel better, then by all means. Just realize you’ve made 4 comments on this fools video trying to justify you not being a shit manager. Who are you trying to convince? Me or you??
20 bad managers gave this a thumbs down. Everything he said is 100% true. And this is one of the biggest reasons why retail is failing and will eventually collapse. Retail cannot be saved partly because of ugly managers who do EVERYTHING this guy said.
@@MisterMikeTexas Remember the news articles about Amazon recently saying they are afraid of running out of employees because they REFUSE to treat people with dignity and respect?? Yeah, f--k them. I refuse to even buy from them due to their abuses.
@@johnwilliamson2393 I worked in their storage dept before being terminated due to problems with hourly metrics. I saw things falling out of those mobile storage pods as the robots carried them. Our trainer told all of us how he once got frustrated with trying to fit a cushion into one of the larger areas of a pod. He got so frustrated, he kicked it in! He got reprimanded for that, rightly so. And you hear about Amazon drivers abusing packages, and getting physical with customers. They keep their jobs while warehouse employees get terminated for less!
Back in college I took a management class the dean of the college of business taught. One thing I recall him saying was “it’s not so much what a bad manager does when they are there that causes the most harm but it’s what they leave behind them long after they are gone that will affect a business the most.” He was 100% correct because in nearly the 25 years I have been out of college I have worked for MANY bad managers and had to suffer as a result of all of that crap they left in their wake, most notably from putting people in positions that don’t have a clue. 🙄🙁
Yeah my manager is great but the upper management is the problem. I got some comment on a performance review from our director which was 100% incorrect. I told him I am not signing and review until the comment is removed. It definitely got removed.
If the supervisor and manager were good workers and continue to help others out. You will retain good workers because they respect you. If employees don't respect you, they will leave. Life is to short and work takes up a large part of most peoples lives.
I think the saddest thing of all is when upper management sees good people quitting in abnormally high numbers under a bad boss, but they do nothing to stop the bleeding. They don't want to take responsibility for promoting someone who turned out bad or toxic.
My old manager finally got pushed out by HR after years of complaints. She didn't bother me because I had been there before she started and actually had a hand in her training, and was known as the best employee on that department. But she bullied and belittled others. 8 people on her team left within a few months of her and she had 3 team members left. She used to do nothing but tell her employees they were trash and not working hard enough despite the workload being insane and ever-increasing. They finally got shut of her.
Managing has NOTHING to do with liking people. If they're doing a good job they should be told, they should be rewarded, they should be congratulated. Thats what you do if you VALUE them. If you dont show proper gratitude they'll move on to someone who will. They may realize they could do better than you at your job and become an employer. If you find it hard to look through someone else's lens then you shouldnt be a manager. How do you know someone feels valued? They chose to stay with a company/employer that doesnt necessarily pay them as much as they like because they value the staff, the environment, the work more than just a paycheck.
Right. Its not like places don't tell me they value me. Alot of em do. I might not show up on time:/, & id like a better livelyhood... but I do work hard. But just bc they say the words, doesn't mean they show it like they mean it.. Lawd, this sounds like my marriage
I feel you brother. That is a issue at ever job. Management is scared of confrontation with the lazy workers. They use good workers to cover the lazy bastards tracks.
Yep, all of this is happening at my job right now. I'm already doing a job search in silence. Its not even worth complaining. Its just time to go. I can be appreciated elsewhere.
When I started 6 months ago, I was introduced to the company by seeing a fellow female colleague being harassed and bullied by the Director. She would cry tears and just pour her hear out to me. She eventually quit after my first 2 months. This has left a bad impression of my boss now that she's no longer there. I choose not to interactuch with him for fear of being treated the same way. Not to mention, he gave us the workload of the girl who quit, with no raise or job title and now they have an intern working for free to help out. .Director only cares about sucking up to the owner and making himself look good. I could go on and on, but I digress. I'm hoping to land a new position soon. At a company who doesn't bully people or treat themlk, them like slaves.
Life update: I've put in my 2 weeks notice and will be out of here very soon. No more being bullied, judged unfairly because I'm introverted, and on to an opportunity paying almost $10 more an hour. Most of all, I'm happy because I know who I am and what I won't put up with.
@@brandondavis1155 The problem is I was an intern, now offered a permanent role, but feeling like I will be replaced soon. I am introverted, and it seems he won't "push" me because of it, so I haven't progressed and can't look for another job due to his inadequate training of me. I'm stuck here.
Top reasons 1. Narcissistic Abuse 2. Stealing from employee, wage theft, paying them for a lower level than the position they have filled etc. 3. Gaslighting, dishonesty, fraud etc.
Never show up a narcissist boss at work. They will make micromanaging you their mission in life. The flip side is taking their abuse when it's not perfect. It's not worth the mental health problems you'll get.
The only thing worse than bad things happening to good people is good things happening to bad people. And the only thing worse than a sore looser is a sore winner.
For me, one of the biggest motivating factors is when a manager has demonstrated time and again that they have no interest in listening to their employees. I remember going to staff meeting after staff meeting where we would suggest how the workplace and our services could be improved and again and again having our suggestions and concerns hand-waved away without any opportunity for discussion. It made clear that any opportunity for feedback or change was little more than empty theatre.
Worked at my job for 5 years. All during Covid worked my ass off. No one works as hard as me yet every time I come to my managers who I have really good relationships with a problem that could make my job easier it constantly gets dismissed. I can see if I was lazy but I’m not lol very hard to grasp.
The 5th one hits home lol. I’ve had employers promote malcontent ppl and folks that knew someone (which you get like a $500 bonus after they get through probation period) just to add numbers to a short staff. And they will give new hires better paying roles in hopes of keeping them, while bypassing you even though you have more seniority. They too will come up to certain guys and give them “better” roles privately ushering them into position when new openings occur. That’s a huge sign your boss doesn’t value you.
Just passed my 6 month probation and received... nothing. Boss is looking for a salesperson and I've a feeling they will be paid more than me as soon as they walk through the door. Not happy.
This is 100% where I am at my job under management in general at the company. I like the job, I care deeply about doing the job right, but my managers make that impossible. I have almost worked myself to death trying to get everything done and I just have to get out and it saddens me.
So many bad managers see this video but they stick to their toxic ways because they have so much power in their hands and plus they want to work with people they know (friends/favorites/who they know). They have the ability to get rid of people they dont like even tho they work hard to the core.
Had a good buddy who was BY FAR the best employee by speed, quality, range, you name it, at the company. No contest. They overworked him for 5 years and one day something clicked (seeing the worst employees get rewarded and him have to do their work and repairs for years) and he started demanding all the things they’ve promised him. Training they promised, specifically. He was suddenly let go for having a bad attitude and leading others to do the same…
I declined a job offer several years ago. I was given a tour of the unit that I would be working on as part of the interview. I said nothing during the tour. We then went back to her office. She offered me the position. I stood up and said “ I am respectfully declining the position “ while putting out my hand out to shake her hand. She looked stunned and asked me “ why”. I said “there is no way anyone could properly care for 60 people ( yes 60 ) on a nursing unit. I also added “I don’t understand how legally you get away with that”. Buh-bye.
Facts and not only that sometimes even HR is not on your side either and I recently had to quit my job because it was becoming too toxic between me and a co worker and if I didn't leave I would've ended up in prison! I'm glad I left that place and not looking back at all! Thanks Mike for this awesome video Salute 5000 !

I worked for a small business where my manager was the owner, so quitting was the only way to get away. He ticked all the boxes you're mentioning here. He said 40 hours was a "light" schedule, told me I had a self-esteem problem when I asked for more feedback, kept reminding us that we were replaceable and that he owned our desks, and would constantly say that we could do morale-building things but never actually did them. The last time he blew up at us, about half the staff quit over the next couple months.
Good for you guys. I was just ready that the restaurant industry in the USA lost 4million employees... tell people they are replaceable and well... you’ll have to replace them 🤷🏻♂️
@@LeadershipwithMike My old boss would have an even tougher time with replacement because we were all white-collar specialists - I'm a digital marketer, and I left with two front-end developers, a copy editor, and a graphic designer. We were all in our prime working years, so it was easy to find another job. I still get a little bit of surprise whenever I bring up an issue to my current boss (who is awesome) and she handles it all reasonably and professionally. I'm so much more productive and on board with things because of it.
@@LeadershipwithMike I really appreciate videos like yours because it helps validate my experience and know that it wasn't me being a bad worker like I was made to believe, but bad management. I did the best I could with the environment I was in.
Good employees are usually the first out the door. They feel unappreciated, exploited and they know they can do better. I work my ass off for a good manager and have learned to step out as soon as I see red flags. (Unfortunately it took me two years to get this)
Howdy, I am a lead sales associate in a retail store. At the beginning of my job there my manager would praise my work because I was efficient and provide excellent customer service ; however, now she says I am not doing my job correctly and have lost all motivation. While I agree I have lost motivation it is because as an employee it is a bad feeling when your manager makes you feel like despite your best efforts you will never satisfy them or completely your assigned tasks. A few weeks after that, started telling the other managers that I was a horrible worker and she couldn’t trust me to finish my work. I confronted her about it and asked her to teach me a better way to complete by work but she did not help.
Managers like that go after strong employees due to their own insecurity of their incompetence. She will only continue to try and tear you down in the future. You should start looking for other jobs.
I say from experience that retail is one of the worst fields to work in. I will not go back to it purely because of garbage people like my managers. They truly are the bottom of the human race and yes, they are that stupid. I hope the store I used to work at is suffering big time with Amazon taking more and more of the market from them . Their prices sucked and they never had a decent selection. They're so ugly that they go after and hunt down EX-employees for criticizing them in job interviews! Seriously, I am amazed that there was never any workplace violence at my store.
“Good employees leave bad managers”. I’ve never heard the phrase but when I look back on the jobs I’ve quit, it hits spot on. It was never the job I disliked. It was never the place I had to work. I always quit because I didn’t like my supervisor. Always.
Leaving my job today after 14 years! Wages are dire, benefits are none existent and I’m tired of zero career progression. Tired to stick it out but I can’t anymore with a huge amount of sadness. After telling my colleagues this, to my surprise, they said that they’ve been looking as well
This is an excellent video. Employees want to feel that they are appreciated and valued. That is so important. Sadly, There are so many employees that do not feel appreciated. It costs nothing to tell people that they are doing a good job or that they play an important role in the company. Thanks for posting the video.
I remember my check was short and a few days later the rest was added. I asked what happened and they said I got a bonus and "Oh congratulations for that".
Had that in the past, where managers promise job security tell me to apply then get rejected for it. Also sucks when they point out all your mistakes and never acknowledge your achievements, even if mistakes are minuscule.
Interesting points, I've just quit my job for practically all these reasons. Poor management is awful and leaves you feeling so deflated and at times angry too.
My style of management caused me a lot of Unnecessary issues at my former department. I put a huge target 🎯 on my back all because I positively changed the way staff worked. Proving that with a little bit of humility, humbleness and belief in others, you can create a good working environment and be 10 times more productive than my counterparts. I was able to train those who wanted to learn more, help improve those who were deemed “ bad “ worker and give encouragement to those who needed it. I also knew how to assert authority when needed and show my serious side when things got out of hand.
@@LeadershipwithMike to the point they couldn’t take anymore and forced me out to a better paying more important role at another department! I learned a few valuable lessons. 1. Be very careful how much you excel, your colleagues are going to hate you and eventually your Opps manager might see your success as a threat 2. Make sure you make the right friends at work Thank God it all worked in my favor.
I work in an environment where colleagues literally say "well I don't know how to do that/I am not willing to do that" and the managers' first approach is to dump it to me because "I am good and I can get it done". They won't confront the others behaving is such an unprofessional manner or train them, they just go to the easiest person to deal with. I have tried to explain this in so many ways and all I get is either patronizing comments (fake praise) or the classic "basically we don't care, it needs to get done". Of course I get no kudos other than a pat at the back, whilst they continue to dump all the crap to me. Also, managers hate each other, they will not have a meeting or agree on anything without a massive argument and we have to pay the price because they are always angry. I ask my line manager for support, he passes the issue back to me, I ask another manager for help as I just want to ensure that the client is happy, I am getting anger because it's not their problem and "my line manager should do it" comments, while I just need some help....it's not about me, it's about the customer who shouldn't be receiving bad service because of petty internal politics. Such a toxic chaotic environment, I can't believe these people are actually managing to raise families. Can't wait to get out as I am next in line to become a manager and there is no way I can survive in there with my work ethic, they will eat me alive.
I see some young managers (esp. women) gossip about their employees to other employees. They show favorites to the employees who share a similar personality.
I almost cried watching this because this is so true, precise and on point. I just gave two weeks yesterday because of what you said, especially #3. I feel like I did the right thing. Thank you.
That was me. The classic you are a great employee. Your reward is more work or more responsibilities tossed at you. But, your pay does not increase, you get no promotion, and your PTO gets denied since they rely on you too much.
Don't forget that they will only look for you when they cannot do otherwise.. The test of the time you are transparent and their favourite people will always be under limelight
I have a manager with no management experience, has worked one job her entire life and who started off as a lead supervisor. Considering the rest of us started at the bottom, i think its unfair she was promoted to manager. Especially when we have done the job longer than she has. About 3/4's of the office ran out, the remaining 1/4 hates her but trying to hang in there because they think she'll be gone soon. It seems that society rewards privilege and not work ethic. Which is why we have so many poorly run businesses. Degree holders with no character, no experience and no leadership qualities are entering positions which hold a great deal of responsibility. It makes no sense to hire someone to manage an entire communications firm with a degree in children's education, who worked 1 job, with no experience in managenent and no technical knowledge or knowledge in communications. Wtf!
Yes, all those examples are why I left my last job. Mandatory overtime working 4am till 2pm everyday. Than they forced saturdays to be mandatory plus the already mandatory. I made a deal with them. I would do the mandatory and an extra 8 hours during the week so I don’t do Saturdays. I told them I would do that so I can be with my family on the weekend. They worked with me on that for 2 weeks but than they went back on their word. I told them from “ I love this job but if it gets between my family, I’m leaving” they didn’t believe me so I left.
Been with a company for 30 days with little training. The supervisor was outgoing and friendly during the hiring process, however, after being hired, there was virtually no supervisor interaction for direction. I once had a question about an account. She said, "You're not the guy I wanted to hire anyhow, I didn't pick you. I wanted to hire the other guy." WOW! So nice to get to the feeling that I had a target on my back as a new employee. She said it in a convincing way, this is NOT anything a supervisor should say to a new hire, joking or not. Yet, I was expected to know what a five-year senior employee knows. SERIOUSLY?
I do wonder if ppl look into ur educational background? They're not allowed to do that, right? Bc they prob do look into alotta other ish. Bc my supervisor once pointed to me & said ure smart. Then led me to do something I already forgot about:/. But I never take stuff for face value so I didn't know how to take him. My creds... am I gonna psycho analyze you? 😅 prob. Prob guess ur sign too tho bc working fn sucks. & its boring
When the boss favors a higher grade employee that was hired and admits she was not qualified at that grade coming in. He holds me back giving her more opportunities playing smoke and mirrors trying to make it look like she knows more that she does. I had to train her and when things did not go well he blames me. I’m trying to get out. It’s very painful.
Horror story time: - So, there was an employee that two co-workers of mine didn't like, they trash talked him to our "manager" (she wasn't technically but for all intent and purposes, she was) - now, trash talk was common and towards but not to the "manager" which meant this was kinda targeted - I sat there just chilling until they got bad, it turned from shit talking to slander (I'll spare you the details) - now I texted him that "If he was thinking about moving on, he might want to" - and while I did text him while they were talking to him, the "manager" never actually _saw_ me text him, there was no evidence that I did - but she accused me all the same (I assume she thought I mentioned everything (even the bad stuff)) and she whisper-talked that I spilled the beans when, I hadn't - moving on from that, she, over the course of the night, took the two aside and talked to them, specifically being as vague as possible when she did mention it around me meaning: 1) She was shit-talking the other guy 2) She was shit-talking me - Then mentioned to everyone that "We shouldn't text people that aren't there" she directed it to everyone and looked at everyone but me as if for some reason I wouldn't pick up on the fact that I was the only one doing that - Then when I put in my two weeks (I was already planning on this but this got me going a little sooner), she had this kinda "Really?" expression. I don't know if it was a "Really? Why?" look or a "Really? You think you're the victim?" look but in either case it wasn't a _good_ look
The thing is my manager now is always asking if I'm OK with doing something and I say yeah that's fine. She thanks for me everytime Im in work. She makes dinner for me and other members of staff. That's what a good manager should be. Managers should be called out on there bullshit and should be treating people with respect even if you don't like them. Managers are human like us and people should be standing up for there beliefs not to be fucked around with.
Happened to me last month. I had a 2nd job @ Wendy's on 69th st in upper Darby pa. I was way overworked , this 1 manager named "Jacky" was clocking me out 30-60 mins before my actual end time , yelling giving me 6 of the 11 jobs to be done @ closing. When another employee suggested that I should do ALL 11 of the jobs she didnt say shit. Even when that employee wanted to fight me (I would've beat the dog shit out of him ) & again she said nothing , screaming , name calling ect. Finally I yelled back @ her & walked out. Bad riddance
When I first started working I gave it my 100%. (My employer would always say “You’re a fast worker” and praise me.) but then I’d come home tired exhausted and in pain everyday. My job is physically taxing as is, and I’m given more and more work because we’re understaffed. My Co Workers aren’t worth a damn either they’re lazy and don’t give even 60% effort.
Reason number 3 is probably the biggest reason for The Great Resignation. Tons of businesses needlessly forced their employees to take on excessive risk, and often gave pathetic rewards in response(Walgreens having "jeans day" for employees they forced to come in during the pandemic forex). These businesses have shown how little they view their employees as human beings, any wonder the employees don't want to work there?
i have a manager that makes bad decisions and expects the employees to listen unconditionally. When upper management watches the results of her actions she scapegoats and finds ways to blame people under her. ive seen her do it and its borderline sociopathic. also im pretty sure shes a high functioning alcoholic
I am working my hours effectively and turning out a lot of work fast, I was promised a bigger pay than I was given so I refuse to work unpaid overtime. I am punctual to the minute and I am almost constantly get reprimanded that I shouldn't "live by the clock" and that they thought that I "would be hungrier to show my passion and thus should be expected to have to stay longer". I always meet my deadlines, but it's not enough to work just as many hours as they pay me, I should stay more and gift them some hours of my time just because I told them I was passionate about my work. Some managers are Karen's, entitled as fuck.
just quit a job that had what can only be described as abusive employers. Been there, done that. I just ended up quitting and making them look like idiots. (edit) The day after I left i got messages off old collegues saying how everything just went downhill immediately. They gave out multiple refunds. It feels like victory to me. Proved me right.
It is so true about my boss for #3,#4 and #6. I am turning in my resignation letter in two weeks. The only dissatisfaction is I only get to do it once.
The part where you see poor workers get promoted hits hard. Showing up early, always staying late, working non compensated weekends, all of that doesn’t mean shit. Then you see that person who is always late, calling out, leaves early, never volunteers, and see that person get promoted. It’s such a sickening feeling to see that person get promoted for less than a fraction of the work you put in.
Working non compensated weekends? At some point you gotta take some accountability for not looking out for yourself. No one sets boundaries for you bud. They will always take everything they can get.
I've experienced this recently with the company I've been with for 5 years. I used to admire and respect them so much. They were always good to their employees, they gave raises without anyone needing to ask and only to those who actually deserved it, they listened to our problems and concerns, they had standards when it came to who they hired and kept around, if someone was looking for a new job they kept them around until they were ready to leave. Now, after the pandemic, it's entirely different. They let bad employees off the hook for so much crap (stealing, bullying other coworkers, etc) and keep them around, they don't listen if we tell them our workload is too much, they give raises to people who literally do nothing while those of us working our butts off get ignored and piled with more work, and if they learn you're looking for another job, they will fire you. It's ridiculous. It was heartbreaking when I realized I no longer admire these people and immediately started looking for a new job. I can't respect them and I have no desire to work for someone that doesn't even attempt to take care of their good employees anymore.
My manager fired me, even though the reason was complete crap. I was warned my first day if the manager doesn't like you they will try to get rid of you. They did, I ended up getting my job back but wasn't transfered to a different area so I'm back I'm currently waiting to transfer because the leadership is horrible and harsh. I have seen them yell, threaten, and favorite certain employees. While holding some to higher standards than others. It's horrible being told you're useless by your bosses. I just gotta bear and grin it
I can really relate to the wrong people being promoted thing. It hits very close to home for me. Also the refusal to develop employees. Or in my case deliberate sabotage.
Our current manager got rehired after corporate decided she needed the job to finish her doctorate. So little Ms. Can't-be-wrong is here to step over the employees to get to the next level, and Corporate was so clueless they told us about it upfront!
Sadly, I WAS this person at the beginning of my career. Usually, hands-on experience in a job, provides perspective, over time, that softens a person's tongue and opens a mind for exploring and seeking options from your workers. Fortunately, for me, I was put in my place by several very seasoned, usually self-confident and succesful managers, who saw something in me that they valued and helped me learn by allowing me to fail. Now, nearing retirement, I am so grateful for these people and they do exist! They are usually the listeners at the table. They aren't the first to speak. A hint at seeking out the right people. Good luck!
I´m quitting my job currently because when my boss resigned and I was the only person left with experience in that specific work, they decided to promote some guy who was doing something completelly different, but is regularly drinking together with managers. And even without talking to me at all. I can´t consider this else than a heavy insult and gonna leave this company as soon as possible.

No gems with you buddy. You’re unprofessional 🤣
Everything I touch turns to gold but that never helps me keep a job...nobody cares about profit or performance they care about politics and friends.
Why don't they fire bad management?
I learned that a lot of managers don't want a "good employee " they want a yes employee
Unfortunately that can be true.
Hey Mike if your manager said you would be the last person ever only in a dier situation to use you what would you tell the employee to do
I’d be looking for other employment options

Yeah the bad manager just goes job to job managing different people and sticks around a few years until he eventually gets fired or something happens and then he goes and ruins other people's lives. I always wondered how these people get to be managers in the first place

Why did I walk away from a job I loved? Many reasons:
1. I felt unappreciated.
2. I did not feel safe physically or emotionally.
3. No room for growth professionally or financially.
4. My concerns were ignored deflected by gaslighting.
5. Unethical requests.
6. I did not trust my employers.

Most managers are bullies. I've been one, got screwed. The higher level, generally the more morally reprehensible.

I’ll get a video posted in a week or so specifically for your comment here 👍🏻
Oh cool, I'll be watching
I have found that hard working staff, seem to be overlooked too. Lazy workers are there for appearance money
Yesss I don't understand it. I use to go above and beyond at the workplace but not anymore, I do my job and nothing more.
(hence they where showing me no appreciation whatsoever)
When I left this abusive employer I was making a little bit over $23 per hour but I found a similar job which is a lot less physicaly demanding that pays $22 per hour but now I'm working the day shift instead of the night shift now and I no longer have to pay dues to that stupid union I was a part of (that basically did nothing for me personally).....
and the funny thing is I've been making more per week with my new employer at $22 per hour instead of the $23 something I made from the job I left and my new employer doesn't call me on my days off or schedule me for mandatory overtime on my days off. So the $1 and change per hour cut I took was worth it to leave all the a-holes I was working with at my last job.
Yep, I hate those tokens.
Good Workers are seen as Doormats by most jobs.
That's the straight up Truth.
I had one manager who never failed to say she appreciates me. She resigned though.

This literally going to happen at my old job tomorrow. They let me go today... wonder how it'll play out. 🤔
Bad mouthing employees to other employees. A great way to lose peoples respect and trust.
Bingo
And then have to explain job hopping to prospective employers...
Exactly I can’t believe some companies are still questioning me why I don’t stay at jobs no longer than 3 months
There is no good reason to stay at a job more than 3 yrs now. You will have learned all you can for the next job, any raise you've gotten so far will get you thru the drive-thru twice a week, and unless you know someone you can forget advancement. This is the reality now.
Other reasons why good genuine employees leave bad workplace are
- When manager promotes toxic mind games and politics
- When managers favour selected people
- When managers make you extend your work hours without promoting you with good rewards
- When managers don't want any feedback from you, all they want is that you agree with them all the time.
Absolutely
Definitely.luckily I am in a job that has a union so they can't force overtime and pay raises are annually through the union contract. I am good with my direct manager. I just can't stand the director of our department. She is absolutely terrible. She is not a leader at all and she plays favorites. She is not fit for her position.
Some managers lie and manipulate you into believing that it’s your fault for their mistakes. Some doesn’t know how to lead by example which you can’t get any backup support from them and throw you under the bus.
"Good workers leave bad managers, not the job" lol I couldn't have said it better myself!! 🤣
I didn't get the picture of this quote until myself walk away from these bosses . its a gut feeling red flag alarm..

Managers that are trained by the company to weed out the older more experienced employees to get their promotion numbers up. They create a toxic work environment that causes high turnover. Lack of a simple thank you for a job well done.
U are so right, all.that to hire kids who they dont have to pay
Low salary is the biggest reason for turnover, such as benefits, pay, under staffed due to not paying enough to get the necessary labor force, overworking to make up for mismanagement, etc

If the supervisor and manager were good workers and continue to help others out. You will retain good workers because they respect you. If employees don't respect you, they will leave. Life is to short and work takes up a large part of most peoples lives.
I have a great manager it's just his boss who is our department director absolutely sucks so I am in a catch 22

I worked for a small business where my manager was the owner, so quitting was the only way to get away. He ticked all the boxes you're mentioning here.

@@BrooklynUSA Well excuse me for chiming in but…I’m GLAD that it worked out in YOUR favor.

Wtf!
So... is she a member of the family? Seems to be the only explanation.
This man is right I see managers take out there anger at some good emploi instead of at the person who made them mad.
SERIOUSLY?
Wow... thats messed up....
Yeah, I'd be looking elsewhere.
I'd be like far be it from me to deny you the chance to hire the other guy. And promplty walk out.
I wish I could send this to my managers
You can send it to them
Horror story time:
- So, there was an employee that two co-workers of mine didn't like, they trash talked him to our "manager" (she wasn't technically but for all intent and purposes, she was)
- now, trash talk was common and towards but not to the "manager" which meant this was kinda targeted
- I sat there just chilling until they got bad, it turned from shit talking to slander (I'll spare you the details)
- now I texted him that "If he was thinking about moving on, he might want to"
- and while I did text him while they were talking to him, the "manager" never actually _saw_ me text him, there was no evidence that I did
- but she accused me all the same (I assume she thought I mentioned everything (even the bad stuff)) and she whisper-talked that I spilled the beans when, I hadn't
- moving on from that, she, over the course of the night, took the two aside and talked to them, specifically being as vague as possible when she did mention it around me meaning:
1) She was shit-talking the other guy
2) She was shit-talking me
- Then mentioned to everyone that "We shouldn't text people that aren't there" she directed it to everyone and looked at everyone but me as if for some reason I wouldn't pick up on the fact that I was the only one doing that
- Then when I put in my two weeks (I was already planning on this but this got me going a little sooner), she had this kinda "Really?" expression.
Agreed
Sound like my boss ! She give me evil wicked vibez no lie !
I have the opposite. My manager is great. Upper management sucks
(edit)
The day after I left i got messages off old collegues saying how everything just went downhill immediately. They gave out multiple refunds. It feels like victory to me. Proved me right.
It is so true about my boss for #3,#4 and #6. I am turning in my resignation letter in two weeks. The only dissatisfaction is I only get to do it once.
I guess when you're not interested anymore, you'll find all reasons to quit, suddenly all the bad things are so obvious
I want to quit my job now without 2 weeks notice.
I'm handing in my notice for exactly these reasons
I just gotta bear and grin it
Sometimes, even when it sucks, it’s for the best. You may have dodged many years of misery.
Can I get an update.
I can really relate to the wrong people being promoted thing. It hits very close to home for me. Also the refusal to develop employees. Or in my case deliberate sabotage.
True
