All these people keep building the great wall of china around their cities and then putting a crap load of expensive towers along it when it's a complete waste of money, time, stone, man power, everything. Get your military setup and the wall is unnecessary. Bunker up the main town center with the trader, vault and iron bar storehouse and that's good enough with a tower on each corner. Very inexpensive and works great while you get the military setup.
what do you save? Well, having to assign and move people manually (every damn year in hard mode), literally all you have to do is see. and that's it, without bunkers, without assigning soldiers, without any of that. and that once your city grows, your central bunker no longer protects the theater or the statue that is 5 blocks away and you have to send soldiers on foot or wait for them to destroy it and put themselves under fire from the bunker, or do as this guy builds 3 -5 bunkers and move by hand every damn year (emphasis on this) to protect you from even the dumbest of all assaults) u have a point, in early game workers are a shortage, but u can drop the farmenrs to 0 for the last three monts on the year or turn off towers after assoults or the last 4 monts of the year and the 1.5 monts for the next (waste of foot) but once you lose your first 6-7 foot soldiers worth 600-1000 you will say, "hey!!, these towers and palisades are not that expensive!!..." this guy spent 7055 gold on that defense (5 dead soldiers (5000 gold), the rest is the cost of recruit and the upkeep for the existing 15 towers and the 60 soldiers for 1 month). that was the anual cost of 117,5 towers. in early game it is not so noticeable but in mid or late its important save and invest in your mental health. If you are in 400+ citizens and tier 4, gold money is not an excuse, it is the spice tax. and the workforce in the late game is all reduced to buying stone, cutting down, planting trees and buying shoes and soap (these last two after 800 inhabitants) you literally swim in money begging for attica from the iron clan to sell stone. thats the late game. stone, trees, shoes, and soap.
This game should have a loot drop from raiders. At least there is a bit of incentive for successfully defending against a raid.

On lake map nad mountain walls is good.
