what this woman has achieved over the years in med training is no small potatoes. You need to have stellar USMLE scores and great LORs.
Thank you very much! A lot of hard work, and some good luck too!
Andrea Tooley hello my dream is one day go to mayo medical school and study medicine. i just finished my freshman year and recieved a 2.9gpa. i recieved this gpa because i was abused by my ex for 3 months and he is a police officer and his family were threatening me were i work and wanting to kill me because i dont do what he says. what should i do if i really want to get into mayo med school with such a low gpa in my freshman year?? im scared i might not reach a 3.5 junior year. im a very good student graduated my high school with a 3.9gpa but because of the obstacle i face it has brought my gpa down...what should i do?
I'm sorry but it's literally impossible for you to be accepted to Mayo.
Hi... I don't know if you ever receive a response, but I just want to say that I hope you're doing okay. What you're going through is certainly not something easy, but hopefully you can bounce back from it. Perhaps do a post-bac program, gain a ton of awesome experience, etc. Most important of all though please please please reach out to someone in authority so they can help you. I really hope that you have found a way out of this relationship and that you are back on your feet to be the amazing student you are!
kimberly Alvarez You should consider doing another semester and transfering. It can help with the GPA issue since the grades themselves dont transfer. It could also give you a fresh start which it sounds like you could use.
Congratulations! I'm a freshman in college and I've been watching your videos for a while. They really are an awesome resource and I've used a lot of your study methods to get through my intro classes. I love watching your journey in medicine because it's inspiring to see how all of this work can one day pay off.
Congratulations! Thank you for continuing to post videos. You inspired me to pursue my dream of becoming a doctor, and I just decided to attend a BS/MD program at Brown and Alpert Medical School beginning next year! You are such an inspiration and have helped me so much as I was trying to figure the next step in my life. Thank you! :)
Congratulations!! So amazing to see your story pan out over the years, you've been my role model for so long, and you've stayed humble and happy to offer advice the entire time, thank you!
I'm really happy for you! I've been watching your videos for a while now as I've gone through the application process to be a PA and now I've just finished up my didactic year and I'm off to start clinical rotations! (Yes, I'm absolutely terrified). Your story and work ethic are so inspiring, and they have helped me to keep plugging along, even when things seemed to be going horribly. I really wish I had had someone like you to get advice from way back when I was starting college - your channel is a great resource. Thank you so much for sharing your journey with us all :).
Dr. Tooley, you are absolutely so inspiring, and I love that you are sharing your journey!
Yay you´re back! You ve been missed:D
so happy for you andrea...i watch you videos for four years now and you give me motivation every time :)
Hi! You sound really happy. Something that is really amazing about your experience is the fact you became friends with all the applicants. As a per-med student, people make the medical field sound very self-centered and competitive in a bad way (if that makes sense). Thank you for sharing your experience, it truly is motivating to see you succeed! And congrats, you'll be an amazing surgeon!
CONGRATULATIONS ANDREA!!!! That's amazing!!! Wooohoo 🎉🎉🎉
I've been watching your videos and reading your blog since 4 years ago and I'm SO incredibly proud of all your accomplishments! Congrats again 😁😁😁😁 I'm sure you will continue to achieve great things!! Lots of love from Canada!
You're back! Love this video! Congratulations, and celebrations!
The best vids around :) thorough, but never boring. Perfect. And congratulations xx

Wow! Congratulations Andrea!! Welcome to NYC. I wish you lots of luck with your career and stay here in NY. This city has so much to offer!
Wow!! Way to go, you earned it! I cant wait to see your journey through your fellowship so I hope you keep making videos!!
I may have mentioned this before, but your positive personality , hard work/work ethic, knowledge is refreshing and I wish you the best. congrats! !!
I just found your channel because I was looking up Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery on here. I had a severe lacrimal sac abscess under my right eye in February, and it wouldn't heal...I wound up having a DCR and reconstructive surgery in April. Now I'm fascinated by oculoplastic medicine. My doctor is Dr. Michael Landa in Savannah, GA, and he's amazing!!! I don't know how he had enough decent skin to make my eye area look good, but he did. Good luck in your fellowship....you are going into a field that I really didn't know much about, but now am learning everything I can...Also, in case you haven't seen this yet in a patient: the human body can sometimes totally reject Vicryl subcutaneous sutures. My incision site became inflamed and began rejecting the sutures from under my skin about a month post-op. It was disgusting!
Congratulations! I am so excited for you!!
So happy for you. Congratulations!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Congrats Andrea!! You deserve it, so so happy for you! Thanks so much for being my inspiration even though I'm a RD :)

you are such an inspiration to me. i am still an undergrad applying now to medical school and i want to be doctor so badly. i cant wait to grow and hopefully have a fellowship as well
Loved how you narrowed it all down into simpler words, would like to see another video on your update on current residency/how to balance it all with your lifestyle. And a huge congrats on getting matched, you definitely deserved it!! 😊😊
Congrats! The residency and fellowship process for interesting subspecialties seem to take an astronomically long time. When you are finally able to practice on your own it sounds like you'll be 15 years out of high school...
Pretty much! LOL
Andrea, thank you so much for all your videos! You are a great source of inspiration. Would you be able to please do a video sometime with general tips on how to go about securing a fellowship? I am just starting my intern year and I know I'd like to pursue a fellowship. If you have any advice on what steps to take or if there is anything I should be doing from the start to set myself up for success, i would highly appreciate it. also how do you go about finding and completing research projects during residency? Thank you very much and congratulations!!!!!!!! I am very happy for you :)
Congratulations Andrea! Have you thought about doing a video on how you came up with your statement letter and perhaps how you formatted your CV? Thanks!
Congratulations!!
Congrats Andrea! Will you please do a video on how to prepare for DOING surgeries? I'm starting surgery internship in 2 months!
Congrats!
WOW congratulations on matching!!!!
Thank you!
I'm so happy you matched with your dream fellowship! I wish I could at least match with my chosen residency.
You can do it!!
congrats... im a fan.
Hi Andrea! How are you? Congratulations on your matching for oculoplastic!! Im sure you will be an amazing ophthalmologist!! Your videos are always great!!
Do you know how it works to do a fellow program in the us if you are from a country abroad? Thanks :)
now who is the one person that disliked this...
LOL!
congrats!
Hi! Your videos are great I just started watching them. I want to ask you something did you ever regret being a doctor since it's a really stressful job or do you love it? Btw congrats you matched
Uzma E just answering for myself here, but stress is inevitably. when I completed my master's degree and thesis, was it stressful? yes. did i enjoy it? you bet. when you know what it is that you are searching for in life (i.e calling, vocation, etc), then you realize that there is no other place you would rather be or no other job you'd rather do.
Uzma E she already made a video about that
yayyy !!
Andrea can you interview somone who was a non traditional student entering med school with kids? I love your videos, thank you.
CONGRATULATIONS 🎈🍾🎊🎉 ANDREA!!!!! You always work so hard and put your best foot forward. There is always rewards for those who do that :) what time do you go to bed in order to wake up at 4?
SUPER early!!! I try really hard to be in bed by 8:30 or so, so that I can be asleep by 9, but it doesn't always work out...
Wow that's awesome! I'm trying to change my sleep habits and get on that schedule. But I find it so hard to! Thanks for your reply! ❤❤
Congratssss now more videos jejejeje Hope so
Congratulations
Congratulations Andrea! I want to ask you what kind of research you did as an undergrad and in medical school?
This above all: to thine own self be true
HELLO
could you please do a video on how to study and score well in MCQs for med school subjects ?
Your videos are really helpful
thank you 😊
Congratulations! What are the work hours for a oculoplastic surgeon?
I love to be a person like u .so inspiring but i fail my MCAT this year😭😢 i cried a lot cause i was working hard for it .have you ever been in such situations?
hi I love your blog is really interesting.I am an italian student and I want to ask you how I must do to prepare for mcat because i don't know which arguments of math, phisics, chemistry do you study in 12th grade or in preparation for the exam ? and do you think I can study medecine in usa? thanks.
Has she done a video talking about why she wants to be a oculoplastic surgeon?
Hi Andrea! Is it possible that you could do an interview with a neurologist?
Hello! I have always grown up with animals and I don't think I can live without them. Is it manageable to have a dog/cat/rabbit while in medical school? I think my four years of medical school would be pretty lonely without one.
Hey, Andrea!!! You get up at 4;00 am or so.......At what time do you sleep? and CONGRATULATIONS for being selected.: )
Can you see yourself working with Doctors Without Borders?
How does one determine if the program you choose is the right fit for your future plans to become a residency director?
Hard to know, but I wanted a program that had an academic focus, one that most fellows go into careers in academics, and one that was supportive of my career goals!
Hi Andrea!! Congrats on matching into Oculoplastics! I was wondering if you could maybe interview a Reproductive Endocrinologist and Infertility specialist. I am very interested in going into REI and any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you!
How many more years of residency do you still have before you become an attending?
Logic Beatz she is 2nd year. Ophthalmology is 3 year residency. So one more year and 2 more fot fellowship.
You're a PGY3, but in 2nd year of optho. So did you take a year before residency? Or did you not match and tried again a year later? Really wondering how it works for people who don't match or scramble. Congrats on the fellowship.
Chad Richards she did one year of internal medicine internship.
GREY a thanks for the response! Does she have a video explaining that process? Would love to learn about how that works. I'm a DO student hoping to go into surgery, which of course is harder for DOs. I would love to know how people have made these kind of changes.
Chad Richards andreatooley.com you can find there everything
Looking more closely it looks like she's just equating the standard intern year as separate from her "first year of residency" it's semantics, but she was technically an ophthalmology resident the whole time, but the first year is an internship where you bounce to all kinds of specialties, not just internal medicine. So she didn't match into internal medicine and then change to ophtho.
What kind of work do you do before clinic at 4;00 am?
All kinds! I study, do blog stuff, work on research, sometimes workout (not a lot), clean up/do laundry/dishes, etc.- all kinds of stuff!
Hi Andrea ! at what time do you sleep to be able to get up at 4 ?
You are beautiful
congratulations!
is your husband also a oculoplastic fellow?
Genaro Solorio No, he is P.A
She has an interview with a PA even though it's not her own husband.
First comment. :b

This girl is either neck up into debt or mommy/daddy paid for med school and she about to be rich AF
