Me too! I might try it with a maple cut off from my tree, though I'm going to wait a while and see what my tree does this year, before I prune it, it's not come into leaf yet and it's not been styled yet :)
Sir. I am deeply grateful for you showing me how to bonsai... but I need large tree pots for what I want to do....these dinky 6inch pots dont really work for me.
Anyone else’s trees waking up already? I was thinking I’d have to wait a couple more months but apparently all my trees are coming into leaf at the start of February! My neighbours tree started blossoming in December and is still going strong! Talk about mild winter. I’m in the west mids btw
Yes. I'm in VA. Its been in the teens and 20's here at night constantly for the past month or so, ( It's actually snowing at the moment ) but it gets into the 40's and 50's during the day, with occasionally reaching the 60's. I am in almost a state of panic at this moment, because my trees are showing signs of buds swelling, and I have yet to make decisions about seriously radical trunk cuttings on a few Tridents, or even hard pruning on many others. I may have to just let many go and revisit my styling plans after the spring growth. I still havent come up with a fertilizing plan yet either. I wanted to wait until early summer this year to start feeding my Tridents and Japanese maples, ( trying to see if I can get smaller nodes this year ) and going forth with spring fertilization on my Junipers. My friends dont understand that February can be an anxious time for me.
@@Blaydrnnnr sounds like a nightmare! I was thinking about repotting and trunk chips but if we suddenly have another turn and deep comes,(which we are due throughout feb/march) all the trees will go back to dormancy surely??!!
@@samyoel5384 No, I wouldnt worry about them going back to dormancy. Once the hormones start flowing up and down the tree, its ready to start its new cycle. The problem right now is if the buds start to flesh out, the frost or even Icey conditions can damage the buds. My problem is, I like to try and do any major pruning, ( trunk cuts, hard pruning back ) while they are in dormancy, and it appears, it may be past that point. I'm working on them alittle at a time right now, but the major trunk cuts scare me, and since we are just weeks away from the growing season to start, I am worried I might put the Tridents in a much too weakened position. Wish Peter was nearby so I could have HIS eyes take a look and advise. Good luck!!
Sir, will a JACARANDA MIMOSIFOLIA seedling ever produce flower if planted in a pot ? If yes then within how many yrs and also the size of the pot please
Very instructive video, as a novice and someone who is planning on trying out some of these techniques, what kind of wire was used to create the twisting effect on the driftwood? Aluminum or copper?
Either will work, but usually aluminum is used more then copper these days. It probably took sometime ( a few years ) for that Jin, ( the driftwood ) to be created.
I just love mame size 😂, thx for sharing Peter. Cheers
Living in an apartment, these are perfect ... for size ... beauty ... sanity.

Call the cocktail "Peter's Tanuki Twist" - the irony is that I dont drink!

I'd love to see if you could perhaps bonsai some native Australian species, Port Jackson fig trees make beautiful bonsai.
Wow beautiful tree I mus doing pirates ok beautiful kupchak began mus enough bonsai design different just 🥰🥰
So so Cute ☺☺☺☺
Master Chan, do you treat the phoenix wood where it contacts the soil to prevent rotting?
You can if you wish - it might make a small difference.

If yes then within how many yrs and also the size of the pot please
I have no experience of Jacaranda but most of these trees take ten years to flower if grown from seed

So close to 1000 likes!
I'd imagine that the problem with tiny tanuki is that the dead piece will rot away much faster than a considerably larger piece.
i didn't know what a tanuki was before watching. I still do not know what a tanuki is
Peter has a vid explaining it
ua-cam.com/video/Pc18yBpcqIo/v-deo.html&ab_channel=HeronsBonsai
The start of the video explains it well
You are not the only one.
He needs to calm down and stay at one bench. I think these have gone from instructional videos to filming him whilst he waffles
Any reason why zip ties and not wire?
Easier to use

Can I buy one of your drift wood twiggs? XD
I dont have enough small driftwood to share round but am considering doing a Tanuki Workshop soon at Herons
@@peterchan3100 Too bad. Cant really travel to England. But If you film the workshop I would love learn from a distance
