i bought and installed a set from DK Customs, a couple years ago. this is my review from their older install you tube post, . i have not ridden a bike with aftermarket front suspension, nor did i really want to spend the $1500 and hope it is that much better. this was a really good option. i also did not change the springs. Took the forks apart and installed the Intiminators. Relatively easy job, but it did take a buddy and I to put the fork cap back on considering we did it manually with out a press or vise. Once we had the first one figured the second one only took 15 minutes or so which included a beer while the fork drained upside down. Prior to the change I rode a route that included city driving, pavement cracks, bad asphalt, and a cloverleaf. I crossed a set of train tracks twice. I also braked fairly aggressively from 50 kmh to try and quantify the brake dive. After the change, I essentially rode the same path. From my seat of the ass study, I believe the bike dives less quickly than prior when braking. It also strikes me that braking with some dive and hitting an expansion joint is less “abrupt” after the change. The bounce over the tracks is hard to say since the whole bike moves anyway. During some of the shallower bumps on the city streets, it feels like the bike is more planted. Perhaps the rebound is more controlled. It also seemed that the bike tracked better during the relatively aggressive cloverleaf turns. All in all, I believe there is a difference; however, it doesn’t strike me as a nite and day difference like I had when I changed my ’89 and ’07 E-Glides from stock to progressive front springs and 412 rear shocks. Nor as significant as going from the ’07 to the ’19. But I believe there is a difference. As I said, it does feel more planted on the ground. Is it worth it? i am not exactly sure what i expected, but yes it is. the bike seems to hug the road better. i am not regretting the purchase at all Now a word about DK Customs. these are good folks to deal with. i first started down the path for this item due to this You Tube video. i had some questions that i sent by email directly to them. I went with Legend front suspension on 18 freewheeler I bought 3 years ago and made huge difference in not having severe dive when braking. At that time I didn't know about your product but am very happy with legends
I plan on getting these. The front suspension is worse than the rear in my opinion. Just harder to work on. What I would love to see done is for someone to install the Intiminator valves with Wilbers "zero friction" fork springs.
I am not sure of anyone that has that setup! Will keep my ears to the ground if someone says they have it, I will get their opinion on it for you. I am sure if you get the Intiminators you will be well pleased with benefits of having them installed. I installed the Intimidators and progressive standard rate fork springs in my 2022 Road glide with 13” Bitubo shocks in the rear. Rides and Handles fantastic! Already had the springs, bought the rest from DK Customs.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I totally understand the anticipation that comes with waiting for the right time to upgrade. I hope you get to upgrade sooner rather than later. Happy riding until then, and I am sure the Intimidators will be worth the wait! Thank you for commenting! 😎 MB
Stock springs will maintain their original spring rate for anywhere between 50K and 250K miles. Depends on the weight on the bike and the roads traveled (smooth to bumpy) on how long they will last. Typical rider/passenger/luggage weight of under 500 lbs, and typical roads (no jumps or wheelies lol ) the springs will still be good at 150K miles. It is when you go over 500 lbs AND have a lot of big bumps, or off road riding that they can start losing their "spring" in under 150K miles. Thanks for commenting! KP
Great video, thank you! I've been learning more about the DK valves and think they are a great option. I have an '05 Dyna and ride two up about 75% of the time and have already upgraded the rears with Legend Revo A 13 inch. Stock shocks were 12". Huge difference. It's winter... time to think about upgrades and doing the front seems challenging but something I should be able to do. My question, since we ride two up most of the time, what are your thoughts on not cutting down the spacer after putting in the Intiminator Valves?
Installing the Intiminators will be more difficult if you don't trim the spacer slightly, and the benefit of not cutting it down will be minimal. Keeping the spacer longer will result in a firmer ride rather than a softer, more plush feel. If you're an aggressive rider, you might prefer the longer spacer for a stiffer ride, but for those who ride casually or two-up frequently, you'll likely appreciate the softer, more comfortable ride over the firmer, more aggressive feel. I have experienced the fork dive twice and it cost me as I came off at low speeds and it was embarrassing. Rear suspension was changed to screaming eagle Olin’s. What a difference road 5000ks in 14 days. However I came off again and at low speed for the second time. But it was not a drop I just stepped off the bike. I have just finished replacing my front suspension to the legends comfort range with a heavy weight oil. The SG ST has completed 800klms on straight and winding roads and what a difference it makes the bike is so much more comfortable and positive in corners. About 6000 Australian dollars is it worth it though I think it’s worth it for the rideable and the road here in Australia
Oh my! That is a lot. Good to hear you have it set up better than OEM now.👍 For future reference: www.dkcustomproducts.com/dk-custom-front-suspension-testing-report-part-i-of-ii-dk-fs-tst-rp-i.htm www.dkcustomproducts.com/overview-of-performance-rear-shocks-99.htm KP
The best improvement for your front forks would be upgraded stock length springs and Intiminators. This will give you the most travel and the most improvement in your front end. The second option would be adding the Intiminators to your stock springs. This will also give you Improvement, just not as much as also changing the springs. We only recommend using the lowered front springs and Intiminators if you have to in order to get your feet on the ground. The lower your front end is, the less room you have for travel, therefore less performance. The Intiminators can not be used with the emulator. So yes if you are installing the Intiminators you will need to remove the emulator. That depends on many different variables: -How well it is maintained -If it runs too hot, or if things have been done to cool it down -Riding style -What does "costly" mean? Hundreds, thousands, over 10 thousand? I've seen them need an engine rebuild in less than 10,000 miles, and I've seen them still running down the road with 100,000 miles with nothing but a few mods to keep the temp down, and regular maintenance. Another thing to consider, most HD Trike owner spend thousands on mods on their bikes. Many of them focused on improved comfort and heat reduction. What will happen if I install the Intiminator valves and used a heavier oil like a 15w instead of the 5w?
You will have wasted your time installing the Intiminators. They will not function with a heavier weight fork fluid. MB
If we pair these with the Race tech lowering kit, do we just not use the emulator?
The best improvement for your front forks would be upgraded stock length springs and Intiminators. This will give you the most travel and the most improvement in your front end.
The second option would be adding the Intiminators to your stock springs. This will also give you Improvement, just not as much as also changing the springs.
We only recommend using the lowered front springs and Intiminators if you have to in order to get your feet on the ground. The lower your front end is, the less room you have for travel, therefore less performance.
The Intiminators can not be used with the emulator. So yes if you are installing the Intiminators you will need to remove the emulator.
