- Trying to learn to clutch up wheelies on my DRZ. Still having trouble getting it all the way to balance point even in first gear. I need a carb upgrade and a big bore! Some more practice would also help!

You are definitely right about the leaning forward bit. They say you should video yourself practicing to see what you are doing wrong. I had no idea was leaning into it. I will keep on working on it and thanks for the advice.
You are correct. My wheelies have come a long way and I can now hit BP without issue and can usually ride them out and work my way up to fourth gear and put them down at about 60 mph. However, I usually have to clutch it up in first from about 10 to get it to BP quickly. When I had my bike down in Texas I could easily power it up and clutch it up in second and third. Altitude kills the power.
Leave the bike alone, you can keep that thing just stock and it'll wheelie. If it's not popping up, it could be a combination of : Leaning forward, not slowing down enough, not enough gas, not slipping the clutch fast enough. This bike has so much torque that I don't even do wheelies in first gear because it takes nothing to pop this bike up, hell my stock can power wheelie to balance point. I just started learning stand ups and can clutch up to balance point in third gear.
Try clutching just in second then and shift through gears. Heck, I don't even shift gears I just keep it in second and sit on balance point. I havent quite mastered it but I can ride the wheelie without the RPM's rising but everytime I adjust the throttle it'll slowly raise. Shifting gears is a great way to loop your bike lol, I almost did it on 250 from 1st to 2nd. From what I read, you pop it to balance point and shift but it can throw you over the BP and you better be ready to hit that rear.
Your getting close bro you just need to give it a little more gas/hold clutch in a little longer before you pop it. Also, everytime the bike goes up your leaning forward, this is also keeping you hitting the balance point. I know it's scary but lean back you'll be fine as long as you keep that rear brake covered!
