I had met with Andrew Gaska (the official franchise manager for Alien since the very early 90s) at a 2022 comic convention (SiliCon) and he told me that there never was an animated series, rather, it was an animated commercial for the Kenner Aliens toys. He even told me that the commercial was here on UA-cam, but I have yet to find it. Just thought I'd mention that.
Yeah, this entire video is about the fact an animated series never existed :) If you find the commercial though, let us know! We've never managed to find it.
Pereira Labs True and they 20th Century Fox thought it would devalue it's perfect track record but Alien Resurrection and Alien Covenant made the series loose the track record. I mean Resurrection was'nt that bad but it's stuck in limbo. But the series could've be a massive hit.
@@rudyflorestheswitchblade4462 Alien 3 had already accomplished that before either of those movies. It was so bad, that many Alien projects in the early 90s had to be cancelled or reduced in scope.
They should have gone ahead with it!! we got a RoboCop one!! There was almost a 90's Jurassic Park cartoon, and now I'm hearing of Operation: Aliens?? So much wasted potential!!
If both Jurassic park and Aliens actually went through with their shows, they no doubt would've dominated 90s animation. Also imagine the toys both shows would've generated they would've managed to extend the lifespan of each Kenner line
The Operation: Aliens should have exist. Graz Entertainment (producers of Conan the Adventurer, X-Men, Conan and the Young Warriors, The Tick, Darkstalkers, G.I. Joe Extreme, The Adventures of Corduroy, etc.) should have made more episodes of this, based on Kenner's Aliens toyline.
I swear to God, I remember watching this show as a kid, and finding out that it never aired, still freaks me out to this day. I remember it so clearly and always wanted to rewatch the episode.
You're not quite alone in that; and there are a few reasons. One thing I will say, no offense to AVP Galaxy's work and reporting, I swear that I saw, once and only once, an actual reel of the alleged test animation (it wasn't a pilot episode, just test animation, using much of the images that we've seen), basically, it was the equivalent of cartoon shows of the time, where it's music over clips of action from the "show" leading up to the show's title. I only ever saw it once, WAAAAY back in the early days of UA-cam, but have since never been able to find it again. But supposing my memory is faulty there: There were two cartoon series around this time, give or take a few years, that either were VERY reminiscent of the show and premise, or looked aesthetically similar to the movie ALIENS; Bureau of Alien Detectors, and INVASION AMERICA. In I.A., specifically, there are these four-legged creatures called Manglers that look like a more reptilian version of the Xenomorph, and are kinda similar to Operation: Aliens' design for them. Bureau of Alien Detectors had at least one hive-mind creature that behaved and looked like Xenomorphs at some point, I believe. Plus, you had the xenomorph knockoffs from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series from the 80's and 90's, "Attack of the Killer Pizzas". So odds are, just a combination of any of those. B.A.D. is very similar to what you'd expect from an Aliens cartoon series for kids at the time.
Great vid. Has Will Meugniot ever released those colour stills in higher resolution? I've got the Operation: Aliens poster. I'd love to see it realised as an anime.
If this did happen how would they have changed the life cycle of the xenomorphs. I think maybe they would just get rid of the facehuggers and just hatch straight from the egg as chestbursters (or larva).
They would still have had the facehuggers emerge from eggs, they just wouldn't ever latch onto someone's face and they would never show a chestbursting scene.
Although I love the idea of the Alien universe being animated, I worry that, like most of its adaptations into video games, toys and the like, it would inevitably not show/acknowledge not just the gore, but the treachery of the Weyland-Yutani Corp., which to me is central to the world of Alien. It's symbolism for the awful things greed and power can do and get away with if we don't fight it ourselves. I feel like that would be (and indeed has been) the worst thing for an adaptation of this great franchise to ignore.
Totally agree. All the Alien films have basically been remakes of the first film to some extent. They need to open it out and basing it around corruption at Weyland Yutani would be the best way to go. You could have multiple connected storylines taking place on earth and in space.
I think in retrospect, considering Alien Resurrection, the AvP films, Prometheus and Covenant, it really wouldn't have been the worst thing. I'm sure if it was along the lines of the X-Men animated series it probably would have carried some of those themes, but ultimately it would have been a show for actual children, not us sad kidults who over analyse these sort of things.
I know I’m 2 years late but ( and I know it’s probably been said a lot ) but the Clone wars animated show has dealt with a lot of stuff like treachery and turn cloaks e.g A Jedi general who pushes his troops so far that they have to rebel against him, he gathers them up and goes Ape shit with his lightsaber 🤣 That being said Star Wars is a much more accessible story to children Alien couldn’t go that “soft” But find the right style of Animation and it could be Awesome
So Robocop, Rambo, Conan and i assume Chuck Norris karate kommandos loosely based on the Delta Force movie series. Had cartoons and toys based R rated movie franchises, but not Aliens? I personally believe I.P. rights and Monetary issues were the reason as to why the cartoon series wasn't a go.
So, u start out suggesting its not true, but thru facts admit that it basically was with kenner contacting fox! They even had some animation made. Wow. U should've just opened with, "yea. It's true. Here's what happened!" Its ok kid. Ull eventually figure things out.
Not at all. The show never existed outside of a concept and a discussion with Fox. The artwork people often attribute to the show wasn't to do with the show at all and there's no unmade pilot. It was just a fleeting concept.
It be nice some of us just can’t get all the way to Star Wars and Star Trek just take it to Marvel level it really gave it that drive for movies. DC these animation way better than DC movies 🤔🙏🏽 so we voted on at a comic book collector and antiques shop so we thought 🤷🏻♂️😆 like Ninja turtles 3d to animation. Everything to keep feeding then drop movie movie 🎥. And it will sale it will make bank 🏦. Reading Weavers. Stuff it sounds like. Politics with Fox 🙄🤦🏻♂️
Dude i wish theyd do a crowd funded campaign to get this cartoon made! Id definitely pay a few hundred to get this seen in physical media

Would’ve been the best cartoon on tv. Damned shame.

For real

@@theinkslicer RIGHT?? Man, what could've been!!
This could be the next Saturday morning cartoons era when they made this series. But they showed only commercials like on 5:55
This would have been the most watched Saturday morning cartoon ever if it had been.
Yes it would I’d had loved it

I remember watching the first episode.
A Peter Chung Aliens series could have been amazing.
I’ve always wondered about this. Thanks for the info!

Mandela Effect

But... there WAS a completed Netflix AVP anime! We ALMOST got it but Disney ruined that!
What? Really?!?!?
@Anon Anon Yeah. AvPGalaxy briefly covered over it in one if their news articles.

Not that I've seen, I'm afraid.

I wish you could get the mini comics in a reprint collection.
They republished them in one of the Marvel collections. The first or second, I can't recall off hand which.
The animation reminds of the mighty max animated series.
Man, imagine how many parents would have complained about this show.
