    Thank you so much Andrew for making this review. Many enthusiasts such as me have to balance their photo needs with finances and for me a Canon R6 paired with this lens would make a nice relatively affordable, stablilzed telephoto combo. Appreciate it.

    I expected you to test IBIS with an ibis, but the heron worked anyway ;-)
    Jokes apart, 400mm were clearly not enough. That lens is compatible with the 2x extender (800mm f/11), and it would be great to compare that combo to the RF 800mm f/11 IS.

      Hi Dan, Yes it's food for thought. Thanks for your suggestion. I'll try to do this one in April when the birds are breeding and I can save up some money to rent that gear :-).

    hello, do you think tamron 150-600mm g2, sigma 150-600mm sport or canon 400mm f5.6? I've heard that canon 400mm f5.6 is sharper and faster, which one do you think?

    • @andrewbalcombe1338
      @andrewbalcombe1338  Рік тому +1

      Hi there, I haven't tried the sigma and the Tamron zooms. I've only used the Canon 400 prime out of that list. the canon has no IS sob that's an issue. But it's cheap and light. If used on a crop sensor you will need to stop down to at least f7.1 tobget sharpest shots. So not so flexible. The zooms have more flexibilty and the IS is very helpful when hand holding for shots under 1000th of a second. If you have an RF mirroless body consider the new canon 100-400 zomm.

    Well the r6 with 600mm f11 is a good lens. However put a 2x on your lens gets you a 1200 f16 lens

    • @andrewbalcombe1338
      @andrewbalcombe1338  3 роки тому

      That is true. But I think in comparison with the crop body 70D, the image quality would be better with the RF f11 lens.

      F11 ? Its a dark like hell. To be honest didnt tried on F11 any lens, i use my 400L 5,6 on maximum apperture, and it is very dark for me , but f11 ? How it is even possible to make a good photo setting F11 on early morning or evening when animals, birds are most active ? !

    I have just acquired the R6 and having come from the 7d mkii and the 20 mg pixel sensor is a non issue unless you are considering poster size prints. Also not that there is a 1.6 crop factor option the same as the R5 if you feel you need that extra reach.

      @@andrewbalcombe1338 Well, just over a week now of using the 400 5.6, and I’m really enjoying it. I’m still learning the R3 too, so I don’t have the consistency to give regular results, but it all works well together.
      It’s lovely not having to even think about zooming for a change!
      My 1.4x does affect the autofocus, so I won’t be using it with this lens.
      It’s light, noticeably lighter than my 70-200 2.8.
      It’s nice to use with regards to balance and speed of handling.
      I could sell it for little loss if I move on to something else.

    Thanks a lot for this video. I also purchased R6 and I've already same 400 mm f/5.6 lens. But I have not received the EF to RF converter. But I have the same query. This video helped me a lot. But one doubt with R6 which is better EF 400 mm f/5.6 non IS lens or RF 600 mm f/11 IS lens ?

    • @andrewbalcombe1338
      @andrewbalcombe1338  3 роки тому +2

      Hey Debasish, thanks for the comment. The 400 EF and 600 f11 both have positives and negatives. If you want to keep your iso down then the f5.6 is a better low light performer. But with the 20mp R6, the 600 will give you more reach, but usually at higher ISOs. It will also mean you don't have to crop so much. The IS of the 600 f11 is only helpful for static wildlife, video or slow moving subjects. Birds in flight or fast subjects will not require IS so much. But the f5.6 with the R6 will benefit from the IBIS . It's a hard question because they are around the same price if you get a f5.6 second hand. Personally I would choose the 400 f5.6, but i'm not you and I don't know what you would be shooting.

      @@andrewbalcombe1338 Thanks for your genuine suggestions. I've already EF 400 f/5.6 with me. I am using this bird photography. I love to shoot birds in flight. So should I upgrade to RF 600 mm f/11 or not ?

    • @andrewbalcombe1338
      @andrewbalcombe1338  3 роки тому

      @@deb143cam Hi Debasish. Only you can decide that, because people have different preferences depending on useability and feel. I suggest you try and get your hands on one to rent or borrow and see how it works in the field. From what i've seen, the 600 exceeds expectations, but i've never used it. Often my findings are different to what I expect when I use a new camera or lens compared to what I first expected.

      Yes, I thought I would spend 60 odd euros and have some fun with the R5. And I certainly had fun :-). One day it will be available for a more affordable price. I think a lot of old used full frame Canon DSLRs will be on the market quite cheap soon, so maybe there are opportunities there too.
