  • This channel documents my adventures travelling around Southern Africa in my caravan.
    Four years ago I left the big city of Cape Town, towing my caravan and a speedboat with my lovely cat for company, never to return to the big city.
    I'll be documenting my adventure and showing caravan parks that I spend time at in Southern Africa as well as some other subjects of interest to caravanners and adventurers in general.
    This channel takes an in-depth look at smaller and off-grid living in Southern Africa.
    I make all of the music and do the filming, voice and the edits myself.

    The tiny house movement is small in Southern Africa, but is growing exponentially very quickly.
    Southern Africa is vast and has areas of great beauty with weather that is unique and superb. These videos will interest adventurers of all ages. There are still ways to live in this world that allow one to wander the world, as John Wayne used to do in the old western movies.
    As I get older I have the choice to sit in four walls, watch TV and get grumpy, or go off and have an adventure in my old age.
    I've decided to choose the adventure and I'm surprised at what I've found. I'm seeing some great places and having some fantastic experiences.
    Hopefully these videos will bring out your inner 'John Wayne'.
    Please like and subscribe and don't forget to ring the little bell to be informed of new videos when they come out.
    If you like the concept and the videos, please spread the word to grow this channel.

    Lovely video and admire you guys, as a caravaner myself but living in Wales UK (originally from East London CP) I'm rather jealous 😊

    I started watching just to see quickly what their story was, and ended up watching the whole thing, how fascinating! I am not a caravaner at all, but I was fascinated with this young couple and all the effort they have gone and put in to to make this world of theirs "work", very inspiring stuff. Thanks for this, 42 minutes very well spent! :-)

    Many happy travels for you two. You've got what it takes. Did you stay at Kromklip, outside Lydenburg, with the Pretorius family?
    Blessings to you,
    Corné - Limpopo, South Africa

    I would like to ask 2 questions
    1)what is the monthly cost of a camp site
    2) if you doing a 8 hour trip how does your fridge cope

    • @roddiej
      @roddiej 6 місяців тому

      To answer your questions from my own research....
      1. A typical campsite costs between R3500 to R4500 per month, including water & electricity
      2. Many campsites provide electricity, so an electric fridge runs permanently. Alternatively, there are fridges available that run off an inverter that is supplied by battery, which in turn can be charged via solar.... there are endless options.
      In travel changing of the caravan battery can be fed from the towing vehicle's battery.
      I hope this helps.

      For us personally -
      1. This can be a difficult one, purely because of our age we tend to get charged full rates which can be up to R10k+ per month - unfortunately we are not that bougie 😂. This has restricted us quite a bit with the places we visit. That being said, some places have been very generous and offered us the pensioners rate for long stay and some campsites actually offer long stay specials if you ask them. On average it is about R3500 - R5500.
      2. We usually just use our Wildcooler cooler boxes and pack our fridge/freezer items in there between moves to not damage the fridge more than anything. They work BRILLIANTLY. We did a trip from KNP to Port Shepstone last year during the floods, while taking it slow and towing (about 11hours) and when we got home, everything was still ice-cold and frozen.

    What if you haven't got an carravaan of your own is there place where you can put an tent up with power

    • @travelingwildfree
      @travelingwildfree 3 місяці тому

      Yes, the sites are not for caravans only, most weekend stayers came with tents and also used the power points 😊

    Are you just camping or do you stay permanently sorry to ask is it cheaper than renting an place from someone

    • @travelingwildfree
      @travelingwildfree 3 місяці тому

      It all depends, you can get very cheap long stay camping options, but if you move often, fuel will then be more making it more or less the same as renting a cheap flat. We tend to spend a bit more , but this is because we move every month and try to explore the area we're in as much as possible (this is the main reason we travel) but other months we are booked in at a place that doesn't need for us to travel as much, we spend our days fishing or walking down to the beach. It all depends on your lifestyle😊
