    It’s so satisfying learning now, literally 10 years later, that randos like the shade in Sunken Temple had a deeper meaning. I didn’t know the lore but just wanted to believe there was a deeper story to this green dragon boss. And there was, just not for the scrub player like me.

    We as a guild recently completed this questline on a private server and holy hell is it epic! Especially the Moonglade fight it's enormous and easily requires at least one raid to complete if not more. And this is over a decade after the release, I can't imagine how difficult it must have been back then. The uniqueness of it all just adds to the experience. You get the whole guild out to help one member complete the quest, just like with Thunderfury, only with this questline you have to do it a couple of times. The pure joy of the person when he finally bangs the gong is just epic to me, even though I probably will never get to do it myself.
    More of this Blizzard!

    Such a good episode/series - keep them coming!
    I distinctly remember how awesome the war effort was, and how hectic, chaotic, and frustrating the actual post-gong event was. I don't remember who opened the gates on my server, but I remember trying over and over to get to Silithus, and when I finally did it was laggy beyond belief. I live in a small town and our DSL speeds really haven't improved since those days, but back then I also had to deal with being on a crappy Dell that could barely (and I mean barely) run the game. Needless to say, I lagged for a few hours, got nothing done, died a lot, and logged off. It was epic, though, and I hope so badly that Blizz brings the event back on Classic servers.
    Being on that side, though, I never really saw any of the scepter quests happening. One of our warriors was working on it, but I don't know how far he got. I didn't know half of what was involved, and I can't wait for part 2!

    i really appreciate that you've put all this effort into cataloging old WoW history. i didn't get into the game until pre-cata, and even then could only play casually (actually casually, not this "only spends 100 hours/week farming and raiding definition of 'casual'"), so it was really frustrating being locked out of so much lore because it was such a ridiculous time investment, or because i didn't play the game when only certain parts of the lore were available.

    I remember this on my NE Druid, my 2nd char.; It used to take along time to level. I started at the beginning with a shaman, then switched to alli druid.
    It was pretty epic. I remember the giant mobs + players slowing the frame rate to a slide show when the showed up.
    Your videos are great. Your voice and pleasant, positive speech make the videos very relaxing and interesting. Thanks.

    Silithids who dropped the fragments were elites in Vanilla (turned to normal mobs in BC i guess) and damages they dealt were pretty high (most of them doing melee AND ranged damages so even kitting wasn't an option to avoid damages and spare life regen time by bandaging and/or eating between fiights...) so getting 200 fragments fast needed a solid group....

    Something that people who have only experienced Vanilla on private servers is this event was (at least on my server, Tichondrius) was more of a race than a combined effort. Nowadays on the private servers people will wait to hit the gong so as many people as possible can end up with the reward, and there isn't as much interference as there was back then. The Twilight Corrupter was a main point of contention. He had the same mechanic as Lord Kazzak where he would heal and get stronger with every player he killed, so sabotage was huge. There were spies set up on both sides, and every time a group would attempt, people would bring in their low level alts to suicide into him making him bigger and stronger, thus causing the raid to wipe. The Horde were able to get him down in the dead of night when we weren't paying attention and then focused all their efforts on blocking us there, so we had to get creative. We brought in 6 full raid groups to just zerg him down, but we crashed the server. So we coordinated the order in which each raid would engage, having delegates hopping between vent channels to coordinate logging in and charging into battle. After a couple of rotations we finally were able to bring him down. One of the most amazing experiences I ever had in WoW.

    I'm one of Blackrocks Scarab Lords, some interesting numbers for the carapaces for the turn ins were:
    For human - 74 turn ins (14,800 total carapaces)
    For any other race - 84 (16,800 total carapaces)
    As a mage you could solo most of the elites in hive Regal which were the ones that had an additional chance to drop a carapace, but most other hive mobs in silithus only dropped one. Mages could also AoE farm Hive Zora but it was a little more difficult to do because of the terrain and a few ranged poison mobs... So... yeah it took quite a bit of farming but proxy raids made it a little more bearable.
    Good video man, brought some fond memories back :)

    • @basehead617
      @basehead617 6 років тому

      BMEmestetic I remember being on Aerie Peak around July 2006, in Silithus when the gates opened.. I saw the gong-ringer and was amazed, it was a legendary guild you always heard about but being in the opposite faction hardly ever saw any members of. I was 56 or 57 so was mostly just tagging along helping with killing the elites that spawned... one of the most amazing times of the game for me.
      I soloed most of the chain in WOTLK and finished with some help but can’t imagine having done it in vanilla. I had Only One May Rise in my quest log when TBC hit and had it there forever, since my BWL guild never killed the boss.

    This Quest Chain is by far the best one in the game.
    I never did it (started to play just before the 1.9 patch, and by the time I reached level 6, Burning Crusade was there).
    The very best quest chain I've completed was the Hunter's epic weapons, with Rhok'Delar and Lok'Delar. You know, that thing you start in Molten Core by looting a leaf.

    Sweet mercy, that is some insanity!

  • @TinyTaurenRK
    @TinyTaurenRK 6 років тому +18

    500 is rep per quest turn in
    200 is the amount of fragments needed
    1-2 fragments per mob
    42 000 Rep needed to neutral
    It's about 16 800 bugs killed to complete the quest. 500/200 = 2,5. 42 000/2,5 = 16 800. This calculation is based on you getting 1 Fragment per mob(aka the lowest amount) but this is just to show the absolute minimum kills required.
    Don't know the kill time of the mobs but let's say it's 30 seconds (I might be comepletely off here but if its double time here it will be double time /played later).
    30*16 800 = 504 000 Seconds.
    504 00 Seconds is roughly 5.8 days.
    You have to turn in the quest 84 times to unlock the next part(If u start from 0 rep at hated).
    Now I havent factored in the time to eat, drink, get ganked or even travel between the locations to turn it in. But let's just say we could easily double the kill time with this in mind(or even tripple) 10Days + /played for this alone is insane(this being doing this as a solo class). Of course if you have guildies helping you kill the mobs and grind for you this drastically reduces the time, because everyone with the item gets a fragment. Still tho 16 800 mobs is still a FUCK ton of killing, and that's going to take a long time.
    Just as another example. If you were 10 players farming for the items and trading them to you it would take 1/10 of the time. So having people to do it with/for you is key here to not go insane x)
    I should go to bed

    • @RaimaNd
      @RaimaNd 6 років тому +1

      This quest is nothing. Try farming rep for Steamwheedle Cartel or some other. There is a reason why you can get the title "the insane" through that. :D

      Actually values were 200 rep per 200 scales turned in, i.e 1 rep per scale, the values were changed in TBC to be 500 rep per turn in.
      The drop values we're also 1-3, instead of 1-2.
      Also something worth noting, the title was also added in TBC and was not available in Vanilla
      Source - I completed the chain on Light's hope

    the fun thing with vanilla,is that it had a massively different playerbase than it has now,and people there actually extremely enjoyed being "punished" by these super overly long questchains that made you travel the entire word and were hard as ballz,i personally would do the atiesh questline for my druid all over again,because it was fun in a frustrating way,no way we could have anything similar to this now,because of the radical shift in the playerbase

    Liked how you called Anachronos "Ana", reminds me of Anakin from the Star Wars prequels. Anachron even sounds like Anakin.

    The game needs shit like this again.. callbacks to old dungeons that kept them kinda relevant (sunken temple) and mystery and lore everywhere

    I'm proud to have finished this chain before it was removed, I remember having the hardest time trying to fight the corruptor in duskwood since he would keep resetting when I tried to do him solo in wrath.

      3waybar me too.. doing it in WOTLK was a real eye opener, and there’s so many interesting reward items along the way

      Some very stronk and situational +resist items that would fill my bags :) I collected + resist items in Vanilla, you could laugh in the face of danger but I never had time to finish this line, I was awarded the head at the end but yeah then TBC came and fucked everything
