Veggis Teggis So? These days everybody sings in English at Eurovision and that's only the official language of a few constituent countries. Estonia sang in Italian this year, and I think Norway has even sent a song in a made-up language before. It doesn't matter that much, don't you think?

They are not singing in Norwegian, they're singing in Russian. The story behind this video was that they traveled to Kyrgyzstan, without speaking a word of Russian, and they tried to make a 1 one hit in very little time. The song is dedicated to true love.
    Yes, that's right.
    Sunrise, joy, sun shines.
Eagles soar, flowers in the meadow.
Warriors ride to their loved ones.
    Wish you were here.
    My dear, my Janym.
    I will be with you.
    Janym, my dear.
I will always wait for you.
    Janym, together we walk.
    Until the bazaar in Osh.
I can hear your sweet voice.
I feel joy in my heart.
    I'll save you my princess.
    Be together forever.
    My dear, my Janym.
    I will be with you.
    Janym, my dear.
I will always wait for you.
    Janym, together we walk.
    Until the bazaar in Osh.
But even the smallest stone ...
Can be stronger than a mountain ...
    Love's mighty power ...
    Is stronger than hate.
    Janym, my dear.
I will always wait for you.
    Janym, together we walk.
    Until the bazaar in Osh.
(Random english that's hard to understand.)
    Janym, my dear.
I will always wait for you.
    Janym, together we walk.
    Until the bazaar in Osh.

One of the favourite videos, especially after watching Big in Kirgizstan. Ilia with his "perfect" English has just made my day!

  • @Ashfer2
    @Ashfer2 9 років тому +450

Make sure to check out Ylvis Big in Kyrgyzstan if you want to find out why they are singing in a Russian/Kyrgyzstan language rather than Norwegian. Otherwise this won't make much sense. Plus the fact that they wrote this song in English, translated to Russian, did vocals for it in a language they didn't know (and had to be taught pronunciation of it) and then were on a radio show early the next day singing it live for millions of viewers.
I'd like those people who thought/think these guys are not good at making songs (based on only ever seeing the fox video) to see/understand how this song came about. Though this is just a small aspect of their amazing talents to play a crap load of instruments, make backing music for songs, sing extremely well from low to high pitch, sing songs in many different genres with voices that sound like they fit in each genre, do aerial silk, make awesome stage shows, and are great at improvising songs. They are extremely underestimated. It was so annoying to watch them go to interviews in the US where no one did any background checks on them, and they had no idea of all the stuff they have done or could do. Otherwise I know they would have tried to at least get them to improvise a song or something ugh...

    • @lkrnpk
      @lkrnpk 8 років тому +8

well they obviously didn't translate it into Russian by themselves, and the lyrics are so Russian-like sounding that I doubt that the whole song was originally in English, I can see parts of it being that way- the one already in English, for example, but other parts of it sound very Russian culture wise from the get go

    • @Ashfer2
      @Ashfer2 8 років тому +12

+lkrnpk Yeah it was the three of them including Ilyah who was basically their manager and tourguide and speaks Russian I think, who wrote the lyrics and then Ilyah did the translation, but there were probably some parts that didn't translate well and so probably had to pick something similar that made more sense in Russian, Ilyah is the guy in the yellow shirt at 2:51

Ylvis - Janym Original Kyrgyz Lyrics!
Hey, all kirghizy ladies let me hear you say it, when you work that body!
Hey, all you sexy boys, you really turn me on, the way you clapp your hands!

You guys sound absolutely fantastic singing even though most of the lyrics are in Russian. You've done a great job, it sounds almost as though some Russian speaking band is doing it. You actually sound as though the Russian guys sing about Kyrgyzstan. So being a Russian-speaking person myself, I would like to bcompliment you on that. Keep up your good work! 1st. verse: Sunrise, joy, sun is shining. The eagle is soaring. Flowers are in the meadow. Warriors ride to their loved ones. Wish you were here. Chorus: My dear, my Janym. I want to be with you. Janym, my love. I will always wait for you. Janym. Together we shall wander all the way to the bazaar in Osh. 2nd. verse: I can hear your sweet voice. I feel you in my heart. I will save you, my princess. Be together forever. Chorus: My dear, my Janym. I want to be with you..etc.

In English, this is a lighthearted take on a love story where they have to rescue a princess.. Janym I guess.. to get their passports back so they can go home xD The plot is slightly confusing.
Anyways, this was a (very cheap) production while visiting Kirgisistan/Kyrgyztan (agh spelling), and they had to learn (some of) their language before they could make the song. The guy who helped them is in the right of the frame near the end, dancing. :P
The reason they (Ylvis brothers) did all this is.. well.. there's a reason, but in short, that's just who they are and what they do. ^^

-Not only pizza. They have a sushi, they have a second dish, soups of course.
You began just Bob Marley. He began from cocaine bars. You began from pizza places.
I put it on facebook and twitter. And more than 30 peoples in one hour, says that they won't came.
You must began from childs. Like Justin Bieber.
-Hello Madcon! I hope to see you, some one, some time.
-You have to say, hello Tshawe and Yosef.
-Tshawe and Yosef? It's his name? That's so classical Norway name.
It's a crazible expensive. They cost 500 soms.
When I sit on Soviet Union cars, I fell myself like in car machine.
      That's supara. It's like USB.

There is no word "pirdolay"! It's Kyrgyz phrase "bir dalay" which translates on english like "for a long time".
Full line is "birge jurduk bir dalay" what means "we are beeing together for a long time"
    P.S. Sorry for my English

    Kyrgyzstan, somewhere high
Bard: I don't understand, where are you driving me?
Vegard: We're going to save 'the great man's' daughter
B: But why? We've gone here to rest, haven't we?
V: Or else they won't give us back our passports.
V: Believe, if we don't have the passports, we will be late for sure
B: OK, then let's do it quicker
    B: Look, what's this?
B: Let's look at it closer
I relied on Russian subtitles. Sorry but I have no time to translate the lyrics now.
