  • Professional designer Sarah Richardson builds an off-the-grid old heritage family home into the perfect all-season rental property in Creemore, Ontario, Canada. In this episode, Sarah and the design team build a brand new second floor! The house extension is progressing nicely, the roof is fitted with solar panels and gets connected to the original building. So all it needs is Sarah and Tommy to find the fabrics, colors schemes, and furniture to fill the bathroom and 2 bedrooms.
In this 6 part transformation series, we see her juggle being a mother, a business owner, and a general contractor of her new home. Design inc star Tommy Smythe, helps Sarah design each room providing her and the family with much-needed style tips and advice.

Freestanding bathtubs are SO IMPRACTICAL. There is usually no way to clean around them. Water collects in the cracks around it and it is horrible to clean around them. On top of that there is usually. no place to keep all the soap, conditioner, razers, books, wine and other things that go with a good soak in the tub.
Make yourself a nice built-in tub with space for all the space where it's convenient to reach it.

Sarah: Simply lovely. AND, with the inclusion of Tommy, even lovelier. And where have you been hiding those loveliest young ladies. Charming:-) I love the blue and white, well, anywhere. Blue tile in bathroom was a solid choice. Great idea on painting the ceiling white and showcasing the rafters/beams/ceilings. That was a lot of work and I'm sure it wasn't done on a "tight" budget, however, it is simply stunning. Way to go, Team. Cannot wait to see your next "lovely"! Peace from Connecticut.

Or you could custom build the closets so that they both fit the space available. Or use the same size closets and disguise the difference in space on both sides with the draperies. Love the pattern the light fixtures make in the hallway.

When I saw the thumbnail for the extension, I thought it was ugly, using the same gray on roof and walls. I still do, but at least she explained the rationale for the paint, that it was referencing the barn (only it didn't actually match in color). I think, however, she opted for cheap on the outside and chose loads of more expensive interior details - I think I'd have chosen at least a partial brick wall on the outside. The interiors are great, but I wanted to see her Really go for fabulous on a budget.
