Welp, i feel really bad for Hamill after watching these clips, haven't seen them before. It's pretty clear from his facial expressions\eyes that he's not joking or exagerrating, he's truly disappointed in what's been done to Luke in the movie.

My comment is not about the movie as a whole, but about Mark and the kind of person he is. Your point is meaningless in that context. He knew Luke was not being written properly and he knew the film was badly made after he saw it and he warned the fans because he knew they would not be happy with the movie. A movie that is written well, consistent, or at least engaging will make people happy that they saw it and this movie is not any of those things.

I'm the one single fan who liked Jar Jar (it's been twenty years and he still makes me laugh), Rose just...felt unnecessary. Jar Jar may have been pure comic relief on Tatooine, but he was of sincere help to them on Naboo (both times), where Rose felt like the kind of bland OC or self-insert I've seen a hundred times in fanfiction.

    • @dahelmang
      @dahelmang 3 роки тому +2

@laz kar Jar Jar was clumsy, but he realized his own faults. He talked with a goofy accent but he knew his limits. Rose was completely incompetent and could not allow success, even snatching defeat from the jaws of victory by ramming Finn to keep him from protecting the people he cared about. Movie would have been better if she had been a mole.

Later, Leia woke up and went (paraphrased), "Dude, our ships have cloaking devices and stuff, and there's this planet nearby that has an old Rebellion base on it. Why don't we just use our ships to go there?" and pink-haired lady went "Riiiiiight, that was totally what we were planning all along!".

Y'know, if I was in Johnson's position to helm a _Star Wars_ movie, I'd ask for Mark Hamill's advice and input on how Luke should be written and portrayed, cause *_he's_* the one person whose lived and breathed the role, it's a little thing called *_collaboration,_* something that can help a movie improve on itself. And honestly if I was in such a position of working with Hamill on a big _SW_ film, I'd possibly be scared sh*tless.

    • @asioca1992
      @asioca1992 5 років тому

@@phoenixfunny4517 Y'know what though, all that shit is still better than the outcome we got, where Luke went from a young man who saw the light in his father and resisted the dark side to an old wimp who wanted to murder his nephew in cold blood, spent most of the movie wallowing in self-pity and doubt, before finally dying in probably the most chump way possible.
The dude knew his character, Rian Johnson just made TLJ to subvert expectations without actually taking enough time to consider how irreparably these subversions would become to the canon once Episode 9 rolled around and they realized "shit, every plot thread introduced in episode 7 no longer works, time to bring out Palpatine as our hail mary to win back our audience."

I believe I have uncovered a sound theory to explain the divided opinions on the movie.
Flaws in the movie which makes people dislike it are elements that disregard good knowledge of a
subject matter. Falling bombs in space is a result of disregarding good knowledge of gravity.
Admiral Holdo acting like a poor leader stems from disregarding good knowledge of military science
and leadership. Ruin of the Luke Skywalker character is a direct result of disregarding
good knowledge of Star Wars Lore. The reason why this movie was made this way is because it is
targeted at a group of people with poor knowledge of most things: CHILDREN .
The side effect is, all the people less than average knowledgeable of most things will like this film,
while people who are more knowledgeable than average would dislike it.
Personally, I feel it is morally important to make entertainment targeted at children to be
      as smart as possible

I could've sworn there were similar scenes in the movie but paraphrased... I remember Pinky the plan's info was available only to important charges but couldn't tell him because he was demoted.
      Maybe I'm remembering wrong...
But there was definitely an exchange between Rose and Finn where Rose gushes over Finn being from the first turned good and that she has stopped traitors there then asks him what's he doing there which leads her to think he's trying to escape.

Allow me to Copy/paste everything that's got me pissed about TLJ...
Hyperspace jumps can be tracked now.
Missles can be fired right into shielded hanger bays.
Force ghosts can not only interact with the physical world, but can call down lightning from the sky at their own fruition.
A dreadnought's anti-fighter turbo lasers can be taken out by a single X-wing in under 90 seconds....Meanwhile the dwarfed and outdated Star Destroyers are supposed to have literally thousands of them.
There's no friction in space, so if the resistance cruiser really was faster than the First order, even if they ran out of fuel, they would still be outrunning the 1st order indefinitely.
Also.. Since when do these ships run on liquid fuel? How does that work for hyperspace?
Those must be some powerful as hell fuel injectors!
When Fyn, Poe, Rose, and the rest of the group skip out on the salt flats, they're cruzin for what looks like at least a mile and a half..
So after Rose's stupid hero moment, we see Fyn dragging her back into the base.. how long would that have taken?
How the crap did they not get shot?
You're telling me that the first order didn't see this dude drag a body, over a mile, through white salt that reveals crimson red underneath when disturbed?
      lol
Luke Skywalker apparently now has Loki's illusion staff
Any random bimph can fight with a lightsaber, without any training, and kill people who've been drilled and groomed for it practically their whole lives.
Ray knows how to do the *Master* Jedi mind trick - Despite not knowing the technique even f*cking existed.
An entire enemy fleet can be annihilated via 1 ship kamikaze-ing into hyperspace - Reddering all future space battles pointless/tactfully inferior.
Lightsabers can be remotely turned on/off with the force (this can pose many problems in a fight)
We literally see someone get her ass blasted out to space and survive via post-mortem force-float.
Luke, the last Jedi Master - almost kills his own nephew *out of fear.*
      Han Solo - Dead
      Luke - Dead
      Snoke - Dead
      Phasma - Dead
      Admiral Akbar - Dead
The entire original EU - Dead
      My dreams - Dead
The would-be remnants of a defeated Empire somehow defeat a fully instituted galactic republic - (Even the Emperor didn't defeat the Republic using military might - He simply changed it into the Empire via his master plan)
The sacrifices of the heroes in the original movies is void and for nothing.
We got more lore-friendly, less BS-filled content in the prequels.
The reason for Ray being as powerful as she is, having all her seemingly unearned skill and knowledge, being given to us is that "The force needed to balance Kylo Ren" ....implies that light/dark will always have an equal at anytime in the StarWars galaxy, they completely contradict the fact that _balance_ needs to be corrected in the first place!! 🙄💀

How about this? Remove Holdo and the casino planet-
Ackbar can fill in the role for Holdo including the kamikaze, this time he tells Poe his plan to evacuate.
BUT Poe still doesn't trust this plan, coz amazing-mcguffin-trackers-can-even-track-through lightspeed,but-can't-smallships?
Make Rose be the codebreaker. Poe didn't stay in the ship but instead goes with Rose and Finn- Those three failed the mission and got caught.
Ackbar PLANNED to kamikaze all along, but kept it a secret- coz he doesn't anyone to be sad. Poe didn't know this, Ackbar had to wait until he's sure that Poe got out of there and be safe. But bad guys starts shooting at evacuation ships.
So now Poe becomes the reason that lots of their comrades dies. Ridden with guilt, Poe finally learns about planing, sacrifice, and leadership.
Now this PAYS OFF when Luke was about to go fight, and Poe was the first to realize that Luke is buying time and sacrificing himself just like Ackbar did.
Also, this time it was Rose that was about to sacrifice herself, just like her sister, but Finn told her there's another way "by saving ones we love"- This goes back to the beginning where Finn was about to jump ship to save Rey, but Rose was prepared to die with the ship.

Collin Gentry he was a power hungry senator. That's all you know from the movies and all you need to know. Everything else is irrelevant to the plot. If you want to know more about him you have to read a story about him.

    • @Golemoid
      @Golemoid 6 років тому +4

Collin Gentry you're missing the point entirely. The reason why we want explaination for snoke is because we know sidious and vader were the only sith left, and that the empire was defeated. We knew nothing about the world prior to ANH at that time, so that problem didn't exist there.
I of course realize, that TFA is a soft reboot, they just wanted to retell the OT with new characters and they don't care about lore or continuity.
Let's be honest, they killed Snoke off midway the trilogy because the toys weren't selling.

    • @elronman
      @elronman 6 років тому +2

Collin Gentry oh it's a major flaw if you introduce something make it a non character/issue and then just turn it into a paper tiger. Like if your comparing palpatine to snoke you are waaaaaay off my buddy.
I'd have a hard time explaining but the simplest way is the difference in the threat each of them exhumed and the results and reason of their defeat.

Luke becoming a legend again by standing alone against whole FO, making character development from grumpy man at the beginning... i mean, how can you miss it all????????

I feel so sorry for Mark Hamill. This is a guy who's only had two famous roles in a decades-long career, but the roles he has done are brilliant and show how much he cares about acting. He never sold out, he never became an arrogant social commentator like so many of his fellow actors, and he always struck me as a decent, humble, likeable guy. And now this stupid movie comes out, with an egotistical tool of a director who doesn't even respect the movie J.J. Abrams made two years ago, let alone the franchise his contrived mess of a plot is supposed to be set in.
Rian Johnson has destroyed this franchise, not financially but just in terms of plot development. It doesn't matter if this movie ultimately does well or not, because it leaves nothing for a third movie to work on. It tore up all the loose threads from The Force Awakens and didn't set anything up to take their place. I don't envy any writer who has to somehow make this work, and I imagine the solution will involve a lot of contrivance and meaningless filler to take the place of the character and plot development that Rian Johnson blew up with space lasers.

Since force ghosts can interact with real people physically now, I'm hoping Luke continually annoys Kylo in the next installment alongside Anakin and possibly Han.
Sure there were plot holes and dumb stuff. Ep VII was an actual word-for-word rip-off of Ep IV. But at least the characters somewhat resemble human beings instead of robot pseudo-Shakespeareans like in the prequels. I kind of view it as a movie for kicking back and having fun watching with the occasional surprisingly-deep moments considering the subject matter. What else has Star Wars really ever been?

Hey there Weekend Warrior. Love your videos man. And I was SOOOO looking forward to this video, I already knew you were the kind of guy who disliked the portrayal and betrayal of Luke/Mark's character. And I gotta say, unlike the Last Jedi (Albeit I haven't seen yet other than spoilers), you didn't leave me disappointed. But dude, if you see this, and PLEASE heed my words, if you want a better interpretation of Luke Skywalker after ROTJ, read the Expanded Universe now dubbed "Legends". Luke may be OP in those stories, but that's not what he's all about. He wields his power in moderation, applying the right amount of power for the situation at hand without going overboard. He redeems the way of the Jedi as a whole with his new Jedi order, who welcomes marriage and love, and rejects kidnapping children to join the order and following a very dogmatic code. Luke even has a family. A wife and Son, who's name, Ironically, was named Ben. Luke has fought many wars, but that's not what made him great. No, my friend. It was Luke's perseverance, his love for his family, that kept the bad feelings away. Hell, when his wife died because his Nephew turned to the Dark Side and Killed her(Yeah, Disney copied that from the Expanded Universe with Kylo Ren), Luke moved beyond his depression for his son. Those writers and Artists understood Luke better than Ryan Johnson or Kathleen Cunt Kennedy ever will. If you need a good starting point, Warrior, let me know and I'll point you in the right direction in the massive Library that is the Expanded Universe.

In Empire, Vader was almost certainly holding back. The carbonite was a test to see if it could freeze Luke without killing him. Vader wanted his son to join him in taking over the Empire from Papi. If I remember, not too long after Luke scores a hit, Vader takes his hand off.

to your "no one does that in star wars" bit.
    - Han Solo said "go to hell" in the original trilogy. doesn't mean your supposed to look in to it or over think it, its always been just a fun sci fi fantasy.
    - Han Solo also had a comedic intercom chat with an imperial in the death star of the original trilogy (what they did in last jedi wasn't far off the mark.
    - Mark Hamill also thinks that fighting his evil twin (from the Star Wars novels) was also a good idea. just because hes Mark Hamill, doesn't mean he should also make all of the decisions. I'm sure if he had a good idea they would have used it. (personal opinion I'm fine with what they did with Luke, it made sense in the context of the film)

"Mark Hamill also thinks that fighting his evil twin"
yes, Luke also fought his father, but he didn't kill or even hurt him. he didn't give up on him, but he had to defend himself. here's Mark's quote:
“Oh baby, would I love to play my own evil twin! It’d be great because you could maybe not reveal it’s Evil Luke until the real Luke shows up. We could watch this guy undermining the good guys secretly, maybe even killing a supporting character out of everyone’s sight so they all go, ‘What’s going on? He’s crazy!’ And then, of course, the good Luke shows up.”
" Just because he's Mark Hamill, doesn't mean he should also make all of the decisions"
yes, it fucking does. he was portraying the character since the first movie. he has the first authority on how Luke should act.
"I'm sure if he had a good idea they would have used it"
yeah, sure. that's why Mark and Ryan had major disagreements on the character. BULLSHIT.
"personal opinion I'm fine with what they did with Luke, it made sense in the context of the film"
the film is supposed to be a sequel to the previous movies. it doesn't make any sense to those. so that is also bullshit.

She believed the resistance brainwashed her sister into death so she lets no one escape. She set Holdo against Finn. She went with Finn to derail his mission, saying anything to manipulate his sympathy (to make him make stupid decisions like parking on a beach.) So she crashes her ship info Finn so the rebel base can be destroyed, but realizing they both survived the crash, she blurts out something stupid and kisses him to distract. That's why they were allowed to escape to the rebel base.

Can we talk about that hyperspace ram part? Yes it looks SO COOL and everything but it begs the question. Why hasn't anyone made hyper space missiles? There doesn't really seem to be any defense against it and the technology is there because we see X Wings take off at hyper space. Yeah they would be expensive but With the amount of firepower that they have with the potential to destroy super dreadnoughts (flagship) WHY ISN'T ANYONE MAKING THOSE? You have now introduced the possibility of hyperspace missiles and any fool can use them. Like I said, cool scene and I loved every second of it but the fact that it literally destroyed the ship so well is infuriating if they don't take advantage.

Because hyperspace doesn’t work like that. It’s a different dimension.
Okay, lemme explain about hyperspace travel.
      1. U travel through a different dimension where there is time dilatation or a spacetime warp which allows u traverse lightyears in a relatively short time
      2. Objects in hyperspace only interact with gravity wells created by a large enough mass (i.e. a star). Said object would then be pulled out of hyperspace by said gravity well (and get roasted if it’s a star)
      3. The empire had interdictor class star-destroyers that had gravity well generators which prevented escape via hyperspace.
      4. IF hyperspace weren’t another dimension, it would be impossible to traverse as tiny specks of space dust would rip into ships travelling faster than light speed, destroying them in a spectacular manner.
CONCLUSION: that awesome ramming scene broke hyperspace physics in the Starwars universe. Hence, it undermines the previous 7 films. Talk about stupid. So bloody stupid.

I'm just unhappy because they have to take back the hyperspace ram part or they have to accept that is a possibility now. The movie screwed it self 2 ways, one, if they let it be lore then where are all the other hyperspace rams. Two, if it isn't lore then what happened? I understand where you are coming from with the lore but they did it and now it is technically "canon" as far as I can tell which is where my complaint comes from.

. "Objects in hyperspace only interact with gravity wells created by a large enough mass"
That's not true. There was an episode in the Clone Wars series which showed that even small ice asteroids are dangerous, never mind all the instances ships have jumped in and out of a planet´s atmosphere. Hyperspace is just ordinary space from a faster than light view. Hyperspace ramming is quite pointless by the way. Planetary shields, accuracy, cheaper weapons of mass destruction etc makes it pointless. A well placed normal ramming attack should be able to do just as much damage, assuming the ship is big enough and moves slow enough to bypass the shields.

I literally thought, when I first saw the trailer, that Rey spent a lot of time training with the force and the lightsaber, guided by Luke. That dent on the side of the rock is, what I thought, the aftermath of her failures to control the lightsaber. But nope, it was just a weirdly shaped rock

"Did everyone like that part in The Last Jedi when Finn and Rose freed all the animals kept in the cages but didn't rescue those child slaves who were constantly beaten and abused? That was a fun touch." It's like, what are you're frickin values when you decide saving animals who can be caught later are more important than the traumatized children who will be beaten half to death or even sold off to an even worse slave master for letting the animals escape? oh but the kid who force pulled the broom looked fine so everything works out. That's another thing, character's make the worst decisions and somehow everything works out in the end like how Rose somehow knew (Or she really is cracked in the head enough to sacrifice everyone for a kiss) Luke would save everyone.

To be far jj Abrams created the Luke skywalker story line before the last Jedi was even a concept

I think he should have written and directed everything. Some of the things he setup could actually have a payoff here.

No, Abrams set up the Luke storyline, and expected Lucasfilm and the director after him to go somewhere interesting with it. And that’s the biggest problem with the new trilogy: there’s no overarching vision present, here.

Adorni no jj created the story about Luke leaving Because of gilt and not wanting to come back

Emperor Palpatine Then Abrams storyline makes no sense: If Luke *didn’t* want to come back, then why did he make a map to his specific location? It’s possible R2 made it, but I can’t see Luke not knowing about it, and just moving to a different planet. I think guilt may have been involved, but Abrams didn’t have Luke’s storyline fully fleshed out. He set up the question, and left it for the next guy to answer.
