  • Today we are steaming up the engine. The video footage isn't great and I will show a more detailed video on the next startup and go over a lot more things. This was just our first "test" startup and we are still working out all the little details.

Harnessing the forces of nature. A tribute to man’s ingenuity. The start of the industrial Revolution, the steam engine replacing the horse, the mule, and the farm labourer.

Looks like you had to put the stack on, to get draft and get past the shed roof. Hell of a machine.

Wow, sure is warm where you are. 100 degrees here with 90% humidity, and tending a steam engine sure does make for a hot and tiring day. Good to hear from you all the way from Australia.

If you are frightened of steam please don't watch my steam videos and comment that we are not safe. This was a very controlled firs startup after a complete rebuild on this unit.

@@metalshaperJeep I have offended you, my apologies. I am well versed in Steam. It would have been nice to know that the boiler had been completely rebuilt and certified. I have a great Love and Respect for Steam.

How old is this engine, and what make and model?
What was it originally used for?
It looks like it was used for driving two flat belts, why two? Didn't they usually use one belt to drive a shaft and then drive all the other devices off that shaft? Or is one really a flywheel, rather than for a flat belt?

@@metalshaperJeep It would be nice to go back to those times when these old steam mills ran a whistle was a way to call lunch often sawmills sat near large forest the whistle called the yard and fellers to lunch back then a lot of workers didnt carry watches because they would lose them working in the forest also as a pressure relief
but you could almost fall asleep to the chug of the steam engine
glad to see these old mills being brought back even if the old saw mantle is gone a person could fix a band mill instead of a circular blade even a generator to run an electric band mill

The stationary engineer must stay with the engine, unless the boiler bursts whereupon he may hurtle through the air.

This was just the first test start up. The belt and sawmill are in the back of the property and the steam engine needs to be moved back there and get set up.
