  • Today we install new Porsche Cayman front brakes to my 74 Subaru swapped late bay window Bus. Thanks to Lanner & VeeDubEngineering Canada for the awesome brake conversion kit. We also get the newly refinished Boxster wheels installed.

I've emailed Lanner several times and just need to get a part number for those bearing spacers. US Porsche Cayman must be different, the calipers have ears on them.

There isn’t a part number for them per se, they’re just a custom made spacer typically. I’m sure you can google the specs for the required ID/OD and thickness. Must people cut them on a lathe.

Love the detail in your video! Not quite ready to tackle this on my own yet, but definitely want to upgrade the front brakes and of course lower my ‘73 late bay. New upgrades and wheels look great👊🏼🔥

Thanks! Been putting the miles on it since. I still want to tackle disk on the rear too, but haven’t gotten around to it.

I have the same kit from lanner. Plus a rear disc brake kit from another vendor. What I don't have is the flexible brake line going to the caliper. I know it's been a long time since you made this video, but do you remember your source for that?

For the fronts, the factory Bus flex lines work perfectly. I upgraded to stainless braided ones over stock rubber, but nothing else special

Very good video and nice job. I have a 71 Vw panel bus and I want to use the 944 hobs on front. Do I use early or late hubs. Turbo or non tubo and the , and the last thing, where to get the spacer and bearings kit?
    Thanks

They are NA (non-turbo) early offset 944 hubs. You can get a spacer kit directly from Lanner (may be available other places too, but you’d have to look), bearings/races are stock Bus parts

Hi , thanks for your answer.
I have a set of 1986 n.a. 944 hubs, will this be the early offset? How do I know?
      Thank you very much

are you using the stock T4 master cylinder and booster? Did you add a proportioning valve into the system so you adjust the braking force between the front and rear? Looks great BTW.

Yes, I’m using the factory booster, master cylinder, and the rear brake pressure regulator. No added proportioning valve or anything. Zero issues with brake balance as is. Thanks for the compliments!

VeeDub engineering system work on the bug?

Would require a different caliper bracket, and a slightly different approach with the hubs (beetle bearings are smaller than bus). But, Lanner has several options for this (or similar) for Beetles. Hit him up and he can get you fixed up

How much is all that caiman set up?

    • @vee_dub_nut

Varies a lot.. I bought all new calipers/etc, so not the cheapest route. The hubs and caliper brackets are relatively inexpensive.
