I Hate cleaning grills but it needs to get done. This is how I clean my Weber Gas grill. This video shows how to remove the new redesigned Genesis II burners and how to replace them after cleaning. One of the main reasons I bought the new Genesis II was how easy it was to remove the parts and get the box really clean. Also, I love the stainless steel grill grates. They are super easy to keep clean even when covered with dried BBQ sauce. Thanks for watching. check out my other video on the weber.

When I was able to afford a home at 66 years old, I bought my first home in Arizona and the first thing I bought before furniture was my Weber Genesis II Grill. After seeing your fabulous video I am now learning to clean it. Thank u, thank u for your video!!
How is your Webber. Still working 👍
Nice job. I cleaned mine once too. Then Adopted an annual post summer ritual (for the last 15 years) of just knocking/sweeping off the chunks and debris into the drip pan (then change the drip pan). I routinely will run it on high for 15-20 minutes (to kill off almost empty propane tanks) and that helps it work like a self cleaning oven.
Wow detailed I just bought that grill yesterday. Like you I step my game up to higher level grill. Thanks for the video
I started using a pressure washer because someone else mentor and I figured I had one so why not try. It doesn’t come out as nice but saves me about two hours.
Nice video ! Thanks for taking the time to show how you clean your grill! Looks great
I'm putting off the idea of buying this grill after watching your video. I had thought really hard of the purchase for days, and your video just threw it out of the window. My Weber performer charcoal grill has been so much easier to clean and maintain for the last 10 yrs. Good video though!
I guess charcoal would cook any grease down to ash. 900F will do that. Gas is the easy way out, I like convenience of not having to wait 30-40 for hot coals. Happy I could help. This is a great grill though once you make the conversion.
@@jstev67 30-40 minutes? It only takes about 10 with a charcoal starter. Weber makes them.
Flavour is the difference between gas and charcoal and 30 -40 minutes waiting for coals is absolute misinformation on your part!
You did an excellent Job, I to have the E-410 Weber Genesis, excellent grills that will last a life time if taken care of, like yours and mine. Keeping up the maintence is a big part. Thanks for sharing. I did hit the like button and new subscriber here..
Just did mine too. This is my second Weber. I had my last one 20 years. Just changed the gut two or three times.
Any issues with the warranty
@@jstev67 So far no issues. This new one I already got new guts for free. Not even two years of use. Definitely not what they use to be.
I use my grille nearly every day (sometimes twice a day) from mid May thru November. Then a couple of times a week all winter. I religiously clean my grille every two years whether it needs it or not. Usually a good flame-up is an indicator the grille needs attention. I don't use any chemicals (read the label on the oven sprays!) just elbow grease.
What kind of elbow grease??? And does it work well?
Great video on refurbishing that Genesis grill, they are built tough to last long!!
That's key to maintain👍👍
It sure is!
wow, impressed the way you cleaned it. I bought mine last year and it is dirty now. I hope I can come up to your standards. thanks for the video!!
There is an easier way to clean it I found. Get a bucket put under the hole in the bottom and power wash it with on of those Home Depot power washers. It works good. I did replace the flavor bars last week from some I found on Amazon for $75. Otherwise my grill still looks like it’s new.
@@jstev67 thank you sir, much appreciated, will try it.
I just bought the same grill today. It’ll be awhile before I need this information but it was very helpful.
would you buy it again?
Now you can see the actual Quality of a Weber Gas grill, awesome stuff
Thanks.
Great job - I had a grease fire last night so going to clean mine for the first time as well...
Everyone says use a pressure washer. I want to clean it not spray grease everywhere so I do it by hand. Thanks.
Jeff, This is REALLY a great video. I just cleaned the outside of my new stainless
Weber Genesis ll. I wanted to let you know about a FANTASTIC product called EARTH BRITE. It's a French clay that's cheap, easy, gentle, fast, versatile for EVERYTHING & I know you said you're not TOO worried about it looking like new, but c'mon, IT'S A WEBER!! LOL It's like $20 and for everything from hubcaps to sinks to patio furniture. The stuff is AMAZING. Just thought I'd share because YOU were so kind to share this with me...because I definitely will need it!
Did you use that to clean all of the parts?
Thanks for this video. It was really helpful. Just cleaned mine.
No problem
I have the same grill and used the same cleaner but I rinsed it with water instead of using paper towel. I placed a plastic tub underneath to catch the dirty water.
I just cleaned it again and did the same thing you mentioned I also used an electric power washer.
I only clean mine after a grease fire necessitating rolling the flaming BBQ into the middle of the lawn and waiting at a safe distance for it to eventually subside.
I could burn it off. I have ne of those weed flamethrower I may do a cleaning video with that next time.
late to the party but best vid on the subject I’ve watched thus far. thanks cap.
I appreciate that!
Nice video to get the grill back to shiny new :)
Thanks.
This is great info to know thanks man you did a good job showing us this
Thanks. It’s a great grill. Thanks for Subscribing or please do if you haven’t.
I liked and subscribed thank you for taking the time to do this video
Under 45 minutes same result: I've been doing this longer, use a 5-1 Painter's Tool to scrape the cast aluminum into the porcelain pullout and if you're careful the gunk to the aluminum pans or use a plastic putty knife, and use a drill with something equivalent to "Avanti Pro 4 in. Drill Mount Quick-Strip Wire Brush" for the removable metal parts. Also use leather gloves if you like your skin.
Move all the metal parts to a work table, I have a small but sturdy folding table outside, grind off all the gunk down to the bare metal.
Everything should be fairly clean first then move parts to you sink or do it outside, wash off the parts and a quick scrub with a pot scrubbing brush or sponge. Replace the foil pan and reassemble.
I get the brand new insane cleaning, or the professional grill cleaning. However, if you're constantly using your grill several times a week .. my method works exceptionally well and you don't end up hating your grill.
Good luck!
Scrub the burners, don't use the drill.
That was my first time cleaning it. Thank for advice.
@@jstev67 .. I completely understand .. I've been there too and when the first thing you cook makes it looks almost like you never touched .. your attitude changes. Also IMO I'd replace the Flavorizer Bars once every couple or so years, or especially once they get heavily pitted or corroded. Thankfully they're on the cheap side.
Good luck! 😎
What is ‘insane cleaning’ ? Is that a product?
@@jamesdove9519 .. Not a product I meant by obsessively cleaning your grill to the point where it looks brand new. After its first use there's a little difference between obsessively cleaning it and cleaning it how I described.
also with the drip pan ..wrap it with aluminum foil and thank you for taking the time to make the video
Yes, and then collect a lot of grease inside the aluminium and then you wonder why your Grill burns.
What is that tiny tool you use to get the little nooks and crannies? Where can I buy one? Also, where did you hide the ignition cords you snaped out of the burner rods? I didn't see them inside the bbq while you were cleaning.
It was a chisel. You can get the at any box store. I just ticked the wires into the opening they came from and pulled them out when I was done.
Impressive. This is my project today
+Chris B hope it went well.
My stainless steel sink says to use baking soda to clean. Wonder if that would work. Also, could you use vinegar in the water?
Would you recommend steel mesh wire over the openings to prevent critters/rodents?
Too much work. Clean it and heat it. Little mice poop never killed anyone. Lol
@@jstev67 erm except when they both nest in there or start chewing wires, including your fuel line. Suddenly the meat on the grill won't be the only thing cooking
I think sos pads work good to get grease off after you spray it with oven cleaner.
Never tried it. It is grill cleaner though not oven cleaner.
what is this spray you're using for cleaning up the grill? is it not contain dangerous materials that can cause bad taste or even worse on upcoming cooking?
Do you have a self clean oven in your house? If so, why not put the grates in your oven and just allow it to burn off. That way you clean your range too at the same time. I'm going to try that when I'm ready to clean my BBQ. Nice machine you there, BTW. I just got the same one yesterday and it works great.
Keep your grill on ignite and wait til temp gets to 750 or more degrees. EVERYTHING in grill is burnt off. (except the grill itself)
Thanks.
I was surprised how you got those heat deflectors so clean . I just ordered some Stainless steal ones like yours to replace my old ones.
Jamie, I just cleaned my heat deflectors yesterday... I brought them inside and use Dawn Powerwash, sprayed them and then used these to clean them off... it was fast and easy, they looked bran-new... www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07NV1Z9CG?pf_rd_r=VW7WD4T8N2GW62C5WNND&pf_rd_p=5ae2c7f8-e0c6-4f35-9071-dc3240e894a8&pd_rd_r=f13501ea-e6e9-4c92-91e7-8a8d64d13ae6&pd_rd_w=OAgBF&pd_rd_wg=DcOyo&ref_=pd_gw_unk
Did you rinse the oven cleaner off everything? I did not see that happen
No I burned it off for about 30 minutes. I rinsed the parts in the water that I took out.
@@jstev67 you do know you should rinse off oven cleaner
+Joseph Salak you don’t think 600 degree heat for 30 minutes will burn it off and left over chemicals left in the box. Come on. I guess I will get cancer then. I plan on cleaning it again soon. This time I am going to try a pressure washer with other viewer suggested cleaners.
@@jstev67 Did you try the pressure washer yet? I have the S-435
Nice job. Thanks.
Thanks don’t forget to subscribe.
Any noticeable difference in grilling stainless vs cast iron grates? Grill came out great!
I don’t know about difference but the stainless grates still look new and are easy to clean.
Now that’s how you clean a grill!
sorry to be offtopic but does any of you know of a way to get back into an instagram account..?
I was dumb forgot my password. I appreciate any tips you can give me!
@Jackson Parker instablaster ;)
@Liam Jamison i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and I'm trying it out atm.
Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will reply here later with my results.
@Liam Jamison it worked and I now got access to my account again. I am so happy!
Thanks so much you saved my ass!
@Jackson Parker you are welcome :)
What cleaner did you use?
Don’t remember. I use a power washer and orange/citrus grill spray.
What cleaning spray did you use?
I actually don’t remember. I use a pressure washer from Home Depot that I got for $100. I want to mate a video cleaning it with the pressure washer
Perfect 👌
Glad you think so!
It's like new now. I'll buy a Weber grill soon
Yea it still looks new. I need another cleaning. After next weekend will do it again.
Great vid, thanks!
I bought this as my first propane grill. It's been a fun, learning experience ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxCx5fHawkK9OoV-ojFrY8JLnZrFwAmvUt . I think it's a bit too pricey after looking at other grills, but it wasn't hard to put together and it works really well. I love the side burner option for heating food during a power outage. I have an electric stove and live in the South (Hurricane season), so this was a bonus. I also bought a cover for it and it has protected it nicely (the Char Broil All-Season Grill Cover 3-4 Burner: Large). Every few grill sessions, I take the rack (or grate) and burner covers off and clean them with a non-abrasive scrubby and mild soap. I wipe the excess off of the bottom as well, taking care to avoid the gas and pilot lines.
.
They really screwed up these grills. What a pain in the ass to clean. I have the old school weber with the heavy duty stainless steel tube burners and stainless steel pull out drip pan without all those bottom flimsy heat shields and notches all over the sides of the grill frame so you just need to use a putty knife and go around the side frame and your done cleaning. They will be selling a lot of replacements parts for this grill. Why pay 1000 dollars for a grill that you have to spend hours cleaning. Do you see those metal brackets that hold in the burners, i'm sure those will rot out in a couple years also. My weber is 16 years old and the only thing i had to replace are the heat shields and i got them from amazon for 50 dollars 8 years ago and they are 3 times thicker than webers and no signs of them going bad.
I'll bet dollars to donuts you don't even need those removable "heat deflector shields" on the bottom. None of the old grills had them. I'd probably just put tinfoil on that removable bottom tray and change it every two weeks or so.
you can clean it in 30 min easy -- the trick is to only do a good job cleaning, but not perfect which wastes lots of time and doesn't add to the flavor of the food. you only need to clean the grill it every 15 to 20 grills. you don't have to clean it every use.
what is the product in the spray can you are using?
very good man! very cleaned!
Very nice Video, though I would like to suggest you burn the Grill for 30 minutes to get all the nasty stuff to ashes, saves a lot of time and cleaning products.
That was months of buildup. Don’t think 30 minutes would have done it. Lol.
I had no idea how to clean this grill or any grill for that matter. ... It will be arriving in a few days . I will try and follow your lead . Thank you !
No problem. Just wanted to post what I did. Some people had good suggestions others a little over the top, like pressure washing.
wait,, you're suppose to clean the grill?
I guess you are.
why not use a power washer after oven cleaner sits for 15 minutes.. and then dry it off ,along with air drying. I have same grill. i think my charboil infared was easier to clean however the weber does cook different. Infared realing didnt dry out the meats
Why not just use a pressure washer . Spray the cleaner let it soak and spray it .
I guess you could but not for nothing It would be a wicked mess, with crap flying everywhere. Don’t you think.
Jeff From Boston - I put a tarp down then spray it with the pressure washer. Or if you have a drain system that you could put the grill near that works also .
I clean mine with my pressure washer and I’m very pleased with the result
Nice
Thanks
How many times you cook for this mess?
Oh, it was about a years after I got it. I had about 5 big cooks with family and about 1 cook a week so call it 40-60. Mostly burgers and BBQ chicken.
I just ordered the same grill, natural gas version. Nice detailed video but your voice is muffled sounding so it's hard to hear what kinds of cleaners you are using, etc. What are you using in the tub to clean parts? Is that a metal bristle scrub brush?
it looks like Easy Off is what he's using
You're supposed to clean them?
What kind of cleaner or degreaser did you use to clean flavoriser bars and grates?
I think it was just over cleaner and dawn soap.
Good job. Regards from Iceland
Bravo 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
This weber grill is it the LP?
Yes it is.
Sehr gut
😀👍
If you use water any way, why not just put a pail under the grill and rising it off.
I guess I could but mixing all the grease and water gets messy and nasty. I like keeping it to a minimum and use paper towers like I do when I clean grease and oil from pans
@@jstev67 you used disk washer detergents for the other things anyway, just a suggestion.
The burners come out much easier than the older Webers. This video may have be purchasing a new Genesis II.
I am on year three and no issues.
Good video, but there's one thing you did, that was horrible and that was using metal to scrap with. I recommend only using plastic like the plastic paint scrapers. they come in various sizes for ease of use I use them and it keeps the grill from getting scratched up also on the drip pan. they work really good and also cheap to replace if needed, other than that it is a great video. God Bless
Didn't think oven cleaner was recommended for aluminum.
Arky Hunter I think your right but it works good.
good job Jeff....... I just bought the Weber Genesis ii CE 330. it's awesome
Wow that looks like fun 😀 j/k lol
Power washing now.
U didn’t rinse the oven cleaner off? You are eating all those chemicals. Should of power washed it off. You removed all the internals so it would of been fine
I know it’s been awhile. I did end up buying a home cheapo power washer and it was a little faster.
Good job on the cleaning. , it is a dirty job This grill will be my next purchase , When I have to clean I’m going to try Castrol super Clean or simple green to melt the grease and then use a steam cleaner jet the liquid will be minimal and you can empty the grease tray now and then , the steam cleaners are pretty cheap and will clean all the nooks and crannies too
Antimatter might be worth checking into. Thanks for feedback.
Jeff From Boston I also seen a vid of a guy putting a tray of water in the barbecue he put it on hi and steamed the whole box out to loosen all the caked on crud , sound like a good idea anyway
@@Antimatter. Sounds like an excellent idea, Ace hardware sells a SIMPLE GREEN FOR GRILLS, It is awesome stuff, I was thinking of steaming my grill with a tray of water spray on the simple green and then clean it. after taking it apart like Jeff From Boston. I also use 1 inch plastic putty knife or and old credit , brass Tooth brush. works wonders for those hard to get to areas, just saying.
Should of waited until it was dirty!
Could you jet wash it do you think?
Edward P yea I guess but I think you would get covered with the overspray.
Jeff From Boston good job...my husband uses the power washer...takes everything from the internal workings out ...power washes the insides...puts all the grill parts in a big bucket with Dawn detergent while power washing ....then power washes them on the grass and then “wallah”...good as new. My Weber instructions claims don’t use oven cleaner ....for the outside he uses spray way and stainless steel wipes.
Bro get yourself some Simple Green & a power washer. Once a year spray her down and blast her. Then give it a day or so to dry out.
Don't get me wrong you did work, great work at that but work smart not hard. Peace.
Shit ain't gotta be perfect. I respect clean, I like to think as myself as clean too. I'ts a grill homie.
All this shit in your body :) Great grill, but how do you consider Napoleon in front of Weber ?
Thanks for the video, but for me the most important thing is how to clean the burners; that with some obstruction can cause a problem. Anyway, you do not clean them and between the sacrifice of trying to hear it and the time looking at what anyone can do with a little imagination I must tell you to much work to finish with something can go !Bang! at any time, what a waste of time. All this written with much respect. 🤔🙄
Ok. Thanks much.
This is alot of work. I will need help when I buy a grill.
Power washer with a storage bin underneath is my new way to go.
You removed all the flavor
Actually the whole "gunk adds flavor" thing is a myth and is also unsanitary. If you give your grill a deep clean at least once or twice a year, it greatly improves the performance and lifespan of your grill.
I'd be careful with Easy Off on Aluminum. They don't recommend it and it may discolor and pit the metal.
You know you can pull the tray out
👍Yea. I know. I did after I was done cleaning the box. I didn’t want the crud to fall inside the cabinet. The tray cleans very nice. Thanks for pointing it out, I might not have know.
That looks fuckin´ disgusting. Hasn´t it been cleaned in a few years ?
Dude not only does your video make me rather be at the my dentist , you put all that crap on your stainless steel grill shelves that are now scratched .
Next time speed it up a little and take better care of your thousand dollar grill .
Thanks for watching. Sorry it was so painful. Did you put a video up for me to get any pointers on. Hope your dentist at least uses Novocain or it’s equivalent. I think the stainless steel grill will make it. When the grill is worthless I will buy another one. It is a thousand dollar grill after all. If I was worried about the money I would have bought a big box one. But seriously I know it’s worse than going to the dentist but I can’t understand why it has over a hundred thousand views.
I own the char broil advantage
I am to lazy for coals. I am always cooking on it and cannot wait. But I do think coal taste better.
