Among the checks carried out before a licence is granted is on an applicant's social media, somewhere Jake Davison was active.
He recently posted on UA-cam about being "beaten down by life", cutting an isolated figure.
And he spoke about the misogynistic incel culture, a reference to people unable to find a partner despite wanting one.
Signs, perhaps, of his mindset in the weeks before yesterday's tragedy.
