To me it feels like a final goodbye. As a fan I understand he has to end it sometime. This album gives the vibes to me. I respect this album regardless of the high registers he use to hit. I will always have a place in my heart for Dokken.

I agree with you, Don sounds really good on this album, he's not trying to do anything his voice can't do anymore. Fugitive is great but those last 3 songs really jumped out at me, I think the album ends very strongly!

Hey Brendon, saw Dokken open for Accept on the Under Lock And Key tour and have loved them ever since, despite a couple of missteps on the way. Bought this the other day as I really liked the first couple of tracks that were put out and agree with what most people are saying, great stuff, Don not pushing his voice and Jon Levin sounding great throughout.
Its great that so many of bands from this era are having another go after varying lengths of hiatus, the bigger names like Winger and Extreme for sure, but also bands like Heavens Edge, Hurricane, King Kobra... Nostalgia IS what it used to be again!

Love it so much that I just can't get enough of it. Don sounds AMAZING on this album. May be their last album. If so Don and company are going with a bang. Such a killer album for sure most definitely. LOVE IT!!!!!!!

Thank you for a well thought out and balanced review. That said, when it comes to the ballads on Heaven Comes Down, I much prefer I'll Never Give Up. I'm pretty sure it's my fave Dokken track since the classic era. I'm sort of getting a Scorpions vibe (Still Loving You) off of it. Walk Away will always be my favorite Dokken ballad, but I'll Never Give Up would rank high in a fave Dokken ballads list for sure. Lastly, Back For The Attack is my favorite Dokken album as well. This time of year calls for repeated Dream Warriors listens.

Good review of the album. I agree there are no filler songs and I do like Don's vocals. My favorite song is I Remember. In my opinion, the best guitarist that has been in Dokken / Don Dokken is John Norum. I know Don has bragged on how well he can play George's solos. Like you mentioned about Def Leppard, they will never return to their Pyromania days.

Don Dokken is where he is supposed in 2023 with his vocal range. Don is 70 years old, so do not expect 27 year old Don Dokken vocal range and you'll be fine. no need for Lynch this n that anymore either...Dokken is Jon Levins band. What we have here with Heaven Comes Down, is an adult Dokken album. me & the wife took a 45 minute ride in the truck and had a listen...great cruiser music with replay value.

Heaven Comes Down is definitely the best Dokken Album since 2008’s Lightning Strikes Again. I felt Broken Bones was an ok follow up but not remarkable, the production and Don’s voice was sounding a bit weak on that album for me. Heaven Comes Down however is a huge step up production wise, song writing wise and overall energetically much stronger with the performances. If this is indeed the last Dokken album then it’s a great one to go out on. “Just Like a Rose” is my personal favourite song on the album.

Alright buddy… you know I was waiting for this. In one of your previous videos you yelled at me (hahaha - light humor, not serious) when I said Lynch Mob > Lynch Solo > Dokken. You said well Dokken wasn’t released yet so it was unfair. However, at that point I did hear 7 of the 10 songs through an advanced digital that received. The only songs missing was 6, 8, 9. On Friday when Mr. Amazon dropped off my physical copy I did listen to the entire thing, twice. So…. Skipping ahead because I said a lot of what you mention here. I really loved Lightning Strikes. I have that up there with Back For the Attack. This record Jon Levin is a work a pure art. I think Jon wanted Don to go out on an extreme high and Levin’s playing is some of the best on ANY Dokken record. The House of Lords guys are phenomenal. …and Don. Well, due to statements over the years that Don was done, that aside from a one-off show here and there, he wasn’t doing anymore because of age and health. I understood that, I respected that. Was a little sad, but I understood. So, to hear Don smart enough to stay within his range, without straining, and wanting to give the absolute best of what he can… I loved his vocal approach. Like you said DefLep, Bon Jovi - they’re not returning to glory days vocally (well maybe when Sambora returns…hahah). I live the art and the packaging of this album. For me, I liked the first two singles that dropped, I like most of the rest of it even more. The song Santa Fe, instantly jumped to the top end of my favorite tracks released in 2023. Now I previously stated in my opinion Lynch Mob > Lynch Solo > Dokken was my preferential order, I’ll concede and make a change….. However, at this time… I still have Lynch Mob at the top because I thought this was the best since their Wicked Sensation. I do have Dokken in as the No.2 maybe even a 1a with the Lynch solo rounding out the three. And that’s not to say I disliked anything because all three are really, really done well. Brendan…. Loved your review. Funny how we had kind of the same impression and same remarks. Maybe I should start doing videos too. If only I had the time!! Great video, as always can’t wait for the next.

Unless people who call themselves Dokken fans have had their heads buried for the last 10 to 15 years, they should know about the limitations of his voice. Expecting DD to be singing like he did decades ago is totally unrealistic and I doubt there are many fans who don’t know this.
So to the album, it’s got some good songs and some not so good. It drags in the middle a bit and ends with whimper whereas it would have been better with a big uptempo rocker. The vocals are in tune but as expected pretty lifeless although acceptable and certainly not as bad as his live performances of recent years. Guitar work is great but it doesn’t jump out and WOW me. My biggest problem with it is something you didn’t mention in your review Brendon and that’s the production. This is probably the worst sounding Dokken album of their catalogue. Sounds like it was recorded in an aircraft hangar and the drum sound and mix is not very good. Zampa is ok but he doesn’t have the swing and attack that Mick Brown had so that is a bit of a disappointment. Overall, glad to get another album (can’t see there being another to be honest) from them but regardless of not expecting brilliant vocals, the album is just all round a bit of let down. Glad you and others love it but as a fan since the first album, I can only say it’s ok. 50/100 for me.
