    There are two vairables that noone that shows these videos adress.
    (1) The starting point of where the injector pump is sitting in the slot.
    (2) The positionof the dial indicator in the holder / how far in , as deep enough to
    get the full reading but or deep enough to damafe to indicator on the high cam of it.

    Would love to see a video on the valve clearance adjustment if you still have this car and engine. I'm sure it's getting to the point of needing the valves adjusted? Anyway great videos.

    Been having an issue getting pump timing re-established on a current mess. Your gauge looked like the one I got in an EWK set so I just went out to check mine. I was treating mine (somehow) as having SAE measurements so I was setting mine at ~39 to get that 1mm. DAMNIT ALL was I way off. It's also a bloody metric gauge. No wonder the thing runs like shit...barely getting it to start. As soon as I get the chance...back out I go to try setting it up proper.

    How do u know the engine is at tdc after the gauge has stopped moving? How did u set the preload and where did u get the info about the pump readings for the gauge?

    Came across your post as I'm looking up how to set up injection timing after replacing my timing belt, quick question, at the 2:07 minute mark I notice your block off plate is tapped, is this to relieve the pressure from blow by? I have a mk2 jetta diesel and wanted to also accomplish this but not sure what size I should tap it for. Any help is appreciated, thank you!

    Friend helped me a lot your video. Could you tell me the size of this pin that locks the injection pump? a big hug from Brazil.

    Where does the end of the dti gauge sit , how do you adjust the timin? ????

      There is a hole in the center of the injection pump on the fuel line side. Install your gauge with I believe 1.5/2mm of preload then zero the gauge. Loosen the pump bolts at the accessory bracket and you can rotate the pump to meet the desired spec.

  • @alfaromeo4838
    @alfaromeo4838 5 років тому +2

    so how do you rotate the pump to get timing in spec?

    • @natethewrench
      @natethewrench 5 років тому +1

      There is a machined mark on the side of injection pump pulley that faces the pump. there is a corresponding mark on the bracket that the pump mounts to at the top facing the pulley inner face.

      With the engine at TDC, loosen the 3 front mounting plate bolts and the one at the back, then rotate the pump by hand CW or CCW until the dial indicator reading is in specs. Tighten the bolts.

    Ok I have the same motor in my 88 golf was wondering if it is a special pin for the injection pump and where to get the camshaft lock at.

      James Cossaboon EWK Diesel Engine Timing Tools Set Tool Kit for VW Audi Volvo www.amazon.com/dp/B00O1Q8PU6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_ZRd.BbBVDPV2H
      This should cover everything you need minus a dial indicator.

      are you sure thats the right kit? according to the specs in the photos on amazon it does not work for the pre 88 or so 1.6L diesels. @@rallyewerks870

      1/4 drive chrome deep well 11mm snap on socket is a perfect fit in the hole in the injection pump pulley and the corresponding hole in the bracket where you would use the "special tool- lock pin". I would suspect another comparable 1/4 chrome 11mm socket from another brand would be the same.

    how can you turn the engine over with the injection pump pulley pinned?

    • @KStewart-th4sk
      @KStewart-th4sk 4 роки тому

      Once he had the belt installed, he would of removed the pin, before going on to setting the pump timing with the dial indicator.

    • @RuralTowner
      @RuralTowner 2 роки тому

      You don't. You pull the pin. After you get the motor back to TDC you put the pin back in to hold the sprocket while adjusting the pump.

    Hey, you didnt not put the vacuum pump.
    Did your oil pump work ? I thought the oil pump was activated byt the vacuum pump.

      this shit is for real i almost broke my engine with no oil pumping when i removed this fckin vacum pump

    • @sk8foreal
      @sk8foreal 2 роки тому

      do you know whats the connection of the vacum pump with the oil pump? i cant undestund it

    • @jazjaz2364
      @jazjaz2364 2 роки тому +1

      the free pulley (between injection pulley and vilebrequin pulley) makes turning a shaft connected to the vacuum pump.
      The oil pump is related to the vacuum pump by a long axle. When the vacuum pump turns, the oil pump turns.
      So, if you have no vacuum pump, your oil pump can not work.

      @@jazjaz2364 i almost burn my engine today with this shit i removed the vacum so i can see the mark on the back of the crank to replace time belt, and then i run the engine with out it to check if i was ok on the time belt and my engine did some weird shit and shut down and then i saw i was not have oil coming up, then i connected the vacum and was ok but im sure i did a little damage with this shit

      I typically have buckets of v-belts pulleys from VW’s that allows my to mix and match and find the right combo. IIRC the crank and water pump pulley were the stock ones and I used a different alternator pulley. It may have been a 16v alt pulley.
