    It's possible that people feel like it was just yesterday that Kurt Cobain died, because his life and legacy continue to live on everytime his voice is heard. I've never felt the kind of sadness I feel, for any artist, the way I do when I think about Kurt's death. My heart aches when I see his face or hear his voice. That ache will always remain. He always wanted freedom, he talked about freedom in all different ways. Kurt, you finally found the freedom you searched for. You became the master of your own legacy and there's no shame in that...peace, love, empathy!!

      You do realize what the music industry is right? I'm only writing this to you because you believe the lie that is Kurt- Nirvana. The music industry is not about music, it's about playing with people's vulnerability's, any thing you hear over the radio is there for money! If you know the first rule all true musicians should follow is never accept payment for your music, music is played for the love of music not a reward! Don't be sad at Kurts death, it was all about his image, and how to end his image with the most profitable way possible. I do realize that what im saying my not be your beliefs but i know this to be true, to many things point to what i believe to be not true. Any body that loves someone as much as you claim to love Kurt, and you did not know him in real life, only proves my point , that the music industry has played with your emotions, and made you sad over a pretend image that was kurt.

    • @fernandopineda5505
      @fernandopineda5505 10 років тому +7

      okthen22ok Wow, you seem to know everything about artists pls don't pretend to know why she's sad about kurt because you dont know her.
      This is how it is, music sells and I agree with u when you claim art should be free among other things I really do, but that doesn't mean what he did was not art, It is cause his message got to us, we feel what he feels in each song, and I believe it's the most incredible band ever the one and only, the unique, a truly artist that expressed his feelings. and I do love him in a special way, not in the way i love my parents, friends but I feel tremendous empathy towards him. IT'S THE WAY WE FEEL and you will never get to change this notion, I understand Katherine Fox, I feel the same.
      PD: I can say I know him a bit more than you.

      Thank you Fer Frandenburg! What is this person spouting on about? Kurt wasn't an image. He was a real person, an artist the likes of which I've yet to see again. If you for ONE SECOND think that artists making money off their talents, aren't artists...wake up!!! Artists all over the world share their gifts with us every single day. Just because he was used by the industry, and his face and image were plastered all over as a 'spokesperson for a generation', doesn't take away from his incredible talent. No, I didn't know him and neither do you okthen22ok. Feel free to state your opinion, but don't tell me what I should believe or that I should buy into your theory of what a real artist is! "I'd rather people hate me for who I really am, then love me for who I'm not."-K.Cobain
      He was a person, a gifted and talented artist with real problems. Problems that people all over this world have. He didn't know the answers and he didn't want the label of 'spokesman'. He often said he was just as lost and confused as everyone else. That's what makes him real, not an image of the media. His lyrics spoke to people and his death will always be a terrible loss. Did I claim to 'Love' Kurt in anything I said? NO, try reading again. I said I feel sadness and loss/ache for a human being/artist who inspires me.
      Don't comment what you think I should feel under my post okthen22ok. Go spout out your theories somewhere else. Putting your comments under my post gives me the right to say that I think you're a complete IDIOT! And you're better off keeping your trap shut 😷, and your fingers 👎away from posting under my comment you 💩

      Wrong. Kurt began talking shit about Axl before Axl reciprocated. Axl actually liked Nirvana at first and wanted them to tour with GnR. Then Kurt spat venom at him. To be fair, Axl probably came across as a douchenozzle in the media and in some of his lyrics, so it's understandable why Kurt didn't like him so much.

      You got some of it right, but not all. Yes, Axl did like Nirvana and asked them to open for his band. But Kurt thought Axl was a racist and a homophobe, especially after that song "Onie in a million." He also felt that GNR represented everything he was against, Machoism, sexism, ect..However, he never said this in public. He just never answered Axl's calls. But her never trashed him in public. Axl got mad that he refused to open for his band, so he started the public war of words after one of his shows. He attacked Kurt and his wife. So, that's when Kurt started to express how he really felt about Axl. So, there you go.

I'm always in the mood for certain songs but whenever a nirvana song starts I have to finish it even if it wasn't what I planned on listening to. Nirvana is just one of those records that blew people away, I'll never forgot it as I played in a local card/snooker club and my friends were addicted to Teen Spirit when it came on M.t.v.. The song seemed like it came on every 30 minutes as M.t.v. absolutely milked the song for every drop.. It's the best album of all time without a doubt.. And it was a pop album as with melodies such as those there was no way it was not going to be unpopular. Even Paul MccArtney was blown away by it, it was a special album and still sounds like the future of rock today. And I think G&R came very close but I can't decide which is better, Appetite for Destruction or Use your Illusion 1 & 2. Best prog rock album of all time has to go to Mansuns Six album which blew me away but it was a great success until later.. A simply stunning album from start to finish but it's a major grower and never as immediate as the other albums mentioned in the above.
    There are lots of albums that have been made and loads are brilliant but those albums that I've mentioned in the above are the most complete that I can remember.. I'm sure there lots of other albums there but I can't think of any at the moment other than Pearl Jam's 10, Oasis Definitely Maybe, Boston (Boston). The Beach Boys Pet Sounds, Shiny Toy Guns, Interpol Turn on the Bright Lights, Super Furry Animals, The Stone Roses, The Verve, Weezer, Mansun Attack of the Grey Lantern, Aha Scoundrel Days and Kate Bush Kick Inside. I I'm sure I could think of lots more but these are all examples of perfect or near perfect albums. Amazing band that never made it were a Band namely "The Open," and they produced two brilliant albums titled "The Silent Hours and Statues. lol that's my word for the day.

    From what I have read what Nirvana did was similar to what Sex Pistols did in 1977. The 101ers played on the same bill as the Pistols and after the gig formed The Clash. Joy Division formed off the back of a Pistols gig and many others did the same. I was on the music scene in the early 90's and when Nevermind came out the impact was instant bands that had played hardcore and bands more like Guns n Roses and metal bands all changed their sound overnight. I even remember my band playing Come as you are and saying we need to sound more like this a long time before anyone knew what a huge impact the album would have. For me it was there and it was happening and from Nirvana many punk bands were signed from NOFX, Pennywise, No use for a name, Lagwagon, Rancid. The only big punk band before Nirvana was Bad Religion. All the others' became big after Nevermind and many in particular in 1994 and even Bad Religion had their biggest hit album in 1994 in part thanks to the single Infected. Do not underestimate the impact Nirvana had on the music scene. I have never known a band to have such a large impact. No one since has made bands change musical direction as they did in the early 90's and off the back of it I was able to see many big name punk bands now in tiny clubs.

      ZERO_SIGNAL I said Sex Pistols were influential not who was better than whom. Also when they started Peter Hook said he couldn’t play the bass either and never held him back. He could play enough to get by. Anarchy is simple enough three and a half bars of strumming with a couple of accents from the left hand. Glen Matlock taught him the basics. I never said I was in love with the way someone looked or acted so can we please stick to the facts rather than make some up. Who are you? CNN. Nirvana were a 90’s punk band who also influenced many other punk bands Pennywise, NOFX etc. Minor Threat were hardcore punk. I never said Nirvana were hardcore. Wikipedia? No Kurt’s own journal where he quotes Nirvana’s top 50 albums and number 1 Raw Power by The Stooges but also MDC, Black Flag, Bad Brains, Sex Pistols, The Saints, Germs, The Slits, The Clash, FEAR, PIL, Killing Joke, Butthole Surfers so like Dave were heavily influenced by punk rock which you can hear in Come as you are, Eighties by KJ, Breed and Territorial Pissings but also had more melodic influences like The Beatles, Pixies, REM, Aerosmith, PJ Harvey, The Raincoats and David Bowie.

Both had their effects on the music world but also the fashion and politics and attitude. We really owe so much to both these bands and their influence. There really is no way to give the effects justice, they were situations that you HAD to experience and what everyone else has been trying to do since is trying to recreate the scenarios. Impossible because those were really lightning in bottle moments that there really is no way you can set out to become that. The perfect age, writing the perfect album backed by the perfect group. Rest in Peace to Sid and Kurt. Both of you changed the world but were not around long after. Thank you to the remaining member's of both bands. I was not even a kid first time I heard Sex Pistols, but a friend of mine, his brother bought it and they were both salivating over the album, dragged me along to hear it. Best album heard. Over a decade later, Nirvana. Heard Smells Like Teen Spirit and bought the album, Nevermind. Mind-blowing moments for me.

    Nirvana's one of my favorite bands, if not my favorite. When I was younger I thought they were overrated and didn't appreciate them as much, only knowing the Smells Like Teen Spirit song. Then I listened to Bleach at a friend's request and realized they had a lot more to offer. There seems to be two phases of being a Nirvana fan. The first phase you get hooked in by the catchy melodies...literally every song is memorable, which is a remarkable feat. Most people are lucky to have a one hit wonder...every song they made sounded like it could be it's own single. Then there's the second phase, where you look up the lyrics and try to decipher what it all means. On the surface they sound like catchy rock tunes, but peel beneath the layers and the songs are much darker than you'd expect, and hell some of them even have pro feminist messages. But the key take away of their lyrics is that they communicate a feeling rather than a blatant message. Instead of using the lyrics to spell everything out for you, they more or less communicate an emotion. Nirvana and Kurt Cobain somehow found the secret recipe to selling punk to the mainstream, and it's a pretty simple concept. Fuse pop melodies with punk aggression. It makes me jealous that I didn't come up with the concept first, though I was too young to have done that anyway. Though there have been plenty of bands that have used that same formula, I haven't really seen another band since Nirvana become as big of a giant....the closest one that comes to mind is maybe Green Day. And that's not to say the only reason they're one of the greatest is because they're popular, but it's so rare for there to be anything that makes you go "Wow I fucking love this" and everyone else goes "Yeah I agree".

    Really wish we could’ve seen what more Kurt had to give us. Everyone talks about how Radiohead is the most innovative band of the last 20-something years but I think if Nirvana had a few more years they would’ve evolved just as beautifully as the Beatles did

    Yeah that's why the dudes from Green Day and Duran Duran were praising it. Nevermind had a unique sound and approach, it was creative, it didn't sound like a recycled piece of music like all of the stuff today. And most importantly, it was music that was memorable, people will still be talking about Nirvana and their accomplishments many many years from now
