I am 52, used to think I felt cheated not seeing Led Zep in their prime. Instead, I was rewarded with Rush. End of any complaint I will ever have. 3 times in concert, mind blown! RIP Neil

I saw both. And each was terrific. Led Zeppelin only once [sadly] at Knebworth in August 1979; and Rush twice: in early 1979 (Liverpool Empire) on the Hemispheres Tour and May 2013 (Manchester MEN Arena) on the Clockwork Angels Tour. I'm also glad I finally got to see Cream (at their reunion shows in 2005). Those three bands are connected = power, energy and great playing :¬)

Rush went into the most minimal details to present this last tour as perfectly representative of a "history in reverse", one of those details was playing with the exact same instruments when they toured back in 1977 for the Farewell to Kings LP when Geddy played Xanadu with that classic double neck Rickenbacker 10 string.

I just love how Rush FINALLY embraced their early days over their last few years. To see Neil play half a set on a retro-style set up even against his own comfort and preferences and to see Geddy bust out the Rick's was just so satisfying. And of course to FINALLY get to see them play Xanadu live in its entirety was life changing. I get choked up just thinking about it.

They played it on the Subdivisions Tour, I think. About 1982. It's here on YT. This one is good, but not studio perfect. The other one is note for note and Ged's voice was tighter then.
I got to see every show they played in Florida since 1980. And yes, the world has gone to hell without RUSH.

    • @jasonlacroix6083

There is a channel "stickhits" that remasters Rush videos and has Xanadu from the Subdivisions Tour. Now, this video was great, considering Geddy's voice isn't what it once was and the complex demands of the arrangement. The one from the other channel will blow your mind. I'm an "enthusiast" of the Triumvirate and they played Xanadu note for note exactly like the studio version from AFTK. I've seen every band there is since the 70's and no other band recreate their work on stage like Alex, Geddy and Neil. They joke around like, "You're playing pretty good, momma Lee would be impressed!". "You look fabulous in that red blazer!".

This was done at the end of their careers, in 2015.
The song, Xanadu, was put on vinal (yes, vinal!!!) in 1977 on Farewell to Kings.
Listen to that version, then listen to this one. The only difference you will find is Geddy's voice isn't as strong as it once was. The musicianship is as good as ever, maybe slightly improved, if that is even possible.
38 years... The time from the initial release to this performance... and they hadn't lost a step, IMO.
    The greatest Prog-metal band, ever!
RIP, Neil. You will always be the professor.

Saw rush in 70's , 80s, 90s, and R30. 5 shows. Geddy with 6string / bass double neck and playing keyboards while singing...Talent.... Dang. Alex...oh my, and the absolute incomparable Neil. Back in 82, Neils drum kit was 30 feet across, hardly sat down entire show, coolest thing I ever saw live. The guitar work closeup on Alex is outstanding, Glad I grew up with them, but so sad to know they won't ever tour or create again hurts. Glad I was able to see the One Night only movie in theaters a few years ago, so cool. Almost like being at a concert, everyone had a rush shirt on. Wish it would be released on DVD.

I have wondered that also, since even some of the same tours had different songs, and there was usually no warm up band, so they played for 3-3 1/2 hours... All Rush. To be able to seamlessly pull this off, night after night, seems impossible. What a gift to music.

I thought about going.... but after seeing RUSH many times over the years, I think I'm just gonna retire too. I'm sure PRIMUS is good.............but it's just not the same. Long Live RUSH! Going to RUSH concerts gave me so much energy and incitement on life in general. Like to other band.
