ECO STYLER also released a statement saying "our hair gels are and always have been PARABEN FREE, SULFATE FREE, CRUELTY FREE,VEGAN, NON-TOXIC and SAFE FOR ALL HAIR TYPES. The specific ingredient in question is called "Triethanolamine or TEA. While some TEA can contain nitrosamines which are known to be carcinogenic, we use COSMETIC GRADE TEA from DOW Chemical Co which has ZERO detectable nitrosamines. Nothing wrong with a man using the gel. I just start using it myself on top of my s curl products. I only use it if I'm going somewhere important and want that natural shine for my short curly hair. People swear I'm mixed or even middle eastern people asking me where I'm from. So hey, this stuff is for hair so I use it but I'm not going around with a woman hair style. Yeah I send my wife to get it for me but oh well. One time I needed it and went to get a jar of it and the lady didn't even say anything but I was like " yeah I hate when my wife send me to get her hair products". I see women use our s curl spray and gel all the time on UA-cam.

I have never been a person that does something just because "the crowd" does it. Firmly believe in "You do you, I do me". I have one gel in my stash. It does not contain the ingredients in question. My personal preference is so use styling creams so I will not be cancelling anything :)

Let’s be honest, if you cancel one, you cancel then all, and that’s not only hair gel, this is in lotions and body wash and makeup. It’s hard to avoid it. Plus there was a cosmetic chemist on UA-cam that said there wasn’t enough information to say if it caused cancer or not🤷🏾♀️ so if a professional says there’s not enough info, then I’m believing her

I’m so glad someone made this video. Natural ingredients are very important to me too, but I use ecostyler and was never planning on canceling it. There are chemicals in just about everything we put on our hair. It’s practically impossible to avoid.

I just started using eco styling gel with argan oil and then i saw videos about how some people thought it was bad for you! I personally LOVE it so far! I use shea moisture’s silicone free miracle styler leave in treatment first and then the eco styling gel and my curls come out so soft and defined! It’s amazing! Thank you for this video!!! ❤️

Agreed!! I grew up in the Caribbean and was never allowed to use straighteners (I have mixed curly hair) the only thing that worked was ECO. Hot island weather and all!!! I was curly before it became a movement... so ECO remains on my list. *Side note: Back home we would boil water and add to the gel with a little oil and mix. This increased the amount and it worked great and still works for me. (Odd but true.)

Also, Eco Styler has *long* responded to the false allegations made by Ms. Hall - it was just fear mongering! I am even sad the video went as far as it did. I dont think I have seen any videos where people were telling others to ‘cancel’ ecostyler gel. They simply spoke of their own personal experiences and the concerns with some of the ingredients you mentioned.

And when I downloaded the Think Dirty App pretty much every fan favorite product was listed on that thing. Also the TEA is a cosmetic grade ingredient and there aren’t any record that says it indeed causes cancer. Also it’s the main ingredient that makes most gels gels lol
It is not cancelled for me, either. The hold is amazing even in humid Virginia weather. It’s my go to staple for slick ponytails. I love Eco-Styler gel.

I feel like of one large youtuber did not say it then there would be no problem and out break over it. People tend to only listen to the headlines and clickbait. Also not many of us who are saying these things don't work in a cosmetic or beauty lab. Why not go to a professional and ask them for advice and their incite on the ingredients. Last thing some influencers who are cancelling the gel completely still have videos up of them using it, swearing by it, loving it, and recommending it. So glad you do what you do! From the start, I decided I wasn’t “canceling” Eco Styler or any other gel. I agree that there are chemicals in EVERYTHING we use! What’s important is for consumers to do their research before purchasing/applying products so that we know that ingredients are safe to use, if that’s your intent. Great video Bianca!
I have never had a problem with Ecostyler! The Krystal one has given me so much beautiful styles! I stopped using them because I really like the watery texture of LA Looks Sport (very similar to DevaCurl’s Ultra Defininf Gel).
I would add that a lot of us curlies are not clarifying our scalps more than what we think we need. I think this also leads to a negative reaction (ie, excessive hair fall, itchy, flaky scalps).

It’s practically impossible to escape from synthetic ingredients unless you make your own hair products. Some people have adverse reactions to hair products, others don’t. I use Eco, although not regularly, and have bra length curly hair without any problems. I’m a vegan and try to keep healthy. But. Calm down everyone. The air is toxic. The soil is toxic. We can’t escape it so.... Thanks Bianca for keeping the balance, as long as we do the best for our bodies and hair that’s good enough 💖

And from her video... eco styler made sooo many new gels there were reviews all over no one had an issue for one whole year.... then one youtubers with over 500k subscribers says eco styler is cancelled now its #facts.... and the video was based on a video made a whole year ago... as influencers you have a social responsibility to inform yes but you also can ruin an entire company with ur false info... and we as viewers needs to also not fall for everything a youtubers says... I like BriHall and kudos to her on her academic success which she found the need to inform us about... doing well in and getting a job in some research department... but being a researcher doesn’t mean you are a chemist... researchers can research anything... it’s just a cause vs outcome field... a chemist is the one who actually studies a compound its make up and its effects. So we need to be careful what we read online... because what will happen... some influencer comes and says Castor oil can cause cancer... then what castor oil is cancelled.... because even the natural things that grow from the earth can be hazardous to humans... there are species of mushrooms that are poisonous and can kill humans... but trust and believe it’s all natural and all naturally poisonous as well... #thinkforyourself..... at this point I won’t be surprised if a youtubers comes out and say to grow 3 inches of hair a month drink 500 mls of onion juice everyday... ppl would listen... so you have a social responsibility... esp when you have a large fan base... use it with caution

Unfortunately, I am one of those people who had bad reactions from Eco and if you search UA-cam you will see that there are others besides Bri and Jess. It made my hair dry and brittle. I was told by my stylist that Eco was the problem, but I didn't want to believe it. I kept using it until recently. I'm glad that I saw Bri's video. I was experiencing the itchy scalp and burning eyes. I'm searching for something better, but to each his own.

Wait? Didn't everybody cancel coconut oil last year? So this year, it's Eco Styler. Back then one vlogger said they stopped using coconut oil. Then everyone jumped on the bandwagon and stopped using coconut oil. It's a bunch of bandwagon jumpers here on UA-cam. I still use both products.

Everything is made up of chemicals and there are tons of chemicals that come in different variations/grades and have similar names. Do your own research and don’t take everyone’s word as fact.

Moknowshair made mention that every hair gel or hair products have a time frame ( immediately, after second use, 1 month -6weeks, 6 months, 9 months, 12 months or other) from the time you open it. It's a little jar open lid emblem or it should be. Also the person should check how long they can use it, which in one example you gave they don't, smh...

My waves and s-waves have such a hard time keep their definition when I put my hair up. I recently incorporated ECO styler gel in my routine and my hair is showing much better definition. I’m not having any reaction or dry scalp. And it is such a great product for my budget. Thanks for putting it in perspective because I’m using it till it’s empty.

Bianca, thank you for this video! I just started using the EcoStyler gel with flax seed & black castor oils. I love the way it defines my curls as I'm just learning how to do wash and go's. I love it. If people are going to "cancel" every possible chemical that comes there way, then I say stop eating sugar which is also in everything we eat and it's considered a drug.
