  • Sick of the vinegar smell?? Blueland makes zero waste cleaning easy! Their cleaning solution is in a tablet and they sell reusable bottles (called "Forever Bottles"). It all sounds great, but do they actually work? We'll see if this is a good replacement for DIY cleaning solutions.
Hope you all enjoy! Thanks for watching! ❤Kristen

UPDATE: The bathroom cleaner bottle split in half (where the fill line is). I noticed a tiny leak from the start, but I just thought it was in my head because these are "forever" bottles. Unfortunately, the bottle didn't last long. The good news is that their customer service is great and they are sending me a new bottle. The bad news is that I have to recycle this cracked bottle (and as you now, not a lot of plastic ends up getting recycled). I always want to be transparent about my experiences with products and brands. So, would I recommend Blueland still? Yes. But, if you already have cleaning bottles, I'd maybe just use those. When I first saw the bottles, I worried about the fill line on the bottle because it does look like they put two pieces together... (and eventually it could potentially leak)? I just wanted to give you the heads up before making your decisions! 😊
Have you tried Blueland??? What do you think of the compostable packaging that the tablets are in?

I really liked your review, thank you. Now that you've had the products for another month, would you still recommend them? I'm debating on whether to purchase the starter kit, as I'm trying to go zero waste as much as possible.

Sarah N Thanks so much! Yes, I do still recommend them. I think they are perfect for people just getting into zero waste or trying to make eco-conscious purchases. If you are still going through current cleaners, keep those bottles! I would just use those (because of my experience with the broken bottle I mentioned above). If you don’t have any, then it’s no biggie. But overall, I really like them and I think it makes reducing waste a lot easier! Hope that helps! 😊

I'm pretty sure your bottles are cracking because you're screwing the lids on while the tablets are still fizzing, as evidenced in the video. There's no place for the escaping air to go, thus, cracked bottles. I've been using Blueland for about a month -- love it -- and the bottles have not cracked. Try letting the tablets finish fizzing and then put the lids on.

@@erickahope9864 I read their response a while ago that said they started with glass and the people testing didn't like that they were glass because carrying it around cleaning, it was more likely to be dropped out broken. I just got my starter set and hand soap a few weeks ago and I’m loving it so much! I don’t love the scent of the bathroom spray (smelled very minty to me), but it does the job. I really like the multipurpose cleaner and the lemon scent. I’ve been using it mostly in my kitchen, including on my sealed butcher block counters and I love it! I also really like the hand soap and I think they’re a great company! I’m much happier with these products than with my vinegar cleaner.
I haven’t used the glass cleaner yet because I still have some windex; but I’ve heard from the company that if you have streaking you need to use less product.

Amy Shanahan Oh, awesome! That’s great that you like them so far! That’s good to know that the multipurpose spray works on your butcher block countertops. I just realized that it says it works on wood! So, I’ll have to try it out on some of my wood pieces.
I will definitely keep that in mind if my windows get streaky! Thanks for the tip! And thanks for watching!! 😊

Even after reading that you had problems with the bottle breaking, I decided to give it a try since they look great and I liked the idea. But I've had 2 bottles (they sent a replacement after the first one cracked) develop large cracks starting at the fill line and leak cleaner all over my shelves causing the wood to warp. :(

Christine Fung Oh no! That’s such a bummer! It’s honestly really frustrating that this is happening to so many of their bottles. You think you’ll be creating less waste and you end up creating more. I wish they would redesign their bottles so this doesn’t continue to happen!

I'm not a diy person so this brand really interested me. I'm not against chemicals either because not all chemicals are bad. I am into zero waste so I will be buying this kit and I'm hoping the bottles will not be an issue for me. I have been using Blueland for a few years. I agree with everyone about the poor quality of the bottles. However their custom service is great and they sent me a new bottle and I sent them back the broken one in the same packaging for them to recycle. The glass cleaner is a little streaky and they said to add more water to the mixture and it works a little better. I LOVE the other cleaners and the laundry detergent and softener. Going to try the dish tablets next. :)

Hiya! I just stumbled upon your review! I saw another video on how to make the change to zero waste and Im debating on buying the start up kit first to try everything out or to buy the tablets and use bottles that I have now. I am using my sisters account at the moment to comment, but I am studying to be a chemist and have taken notice of the amount of materials that we use ourselves on the day to day. My department is small and my class is even smaller, so I could not imagine how much we use as an industry combined and scientists are the ones who are telling us to conserve! (still conserve, always.) As anyone in todays world, we need some things to manage but excess is still excess no matter how you look at it. I do have tips on dissolving faster that I use in lab that may help to cut down on time, use warm warm water not steaming but almost steaming, break the tablet into smaller pieces (if possible as I have not bought them yet and do not know how "tough" they are), and swirl dont shake then swirl in the other direction, shaking does help dissolving as a whole but more of a flip upside down/right side up in a casual motion. I hope that helps! Also, I am going to look back onto their website to see if it is stated, but can you tell me how many mL or cups of water it takes to get to the fill line? It would help me a lot in knowing what bottles that I have now can be used! (I looked at the ingredients/SDS sheets- they are hard to say, but everything except one or two things I have used in lab. Most are just used to dehydrate the tablet so it can be rehydrated when placed in water from my understanding. I do not know the environmental impact of those chemicals in particular but they aren't as scary from a chemical standpoint as their names may seem!) Thankyou! Heres to a better, safe, happier world! xx

    • @StrollingThroughLife
      @StrollingThroughLife  4 роки тому +1

Jillian Butler Thanks so much for the comment! I appreciate the tips for dissolving the tablets faster! I’ll have to try it out next time. I think the cleaning tablets make about 20 oz of cleaner. I personally would recommend using the bottles that you already have. One of my bottles broke at the fill line only after a few uses (and I didn’t drop it or anything). So if you already have bottles, I’d recommend using what you have! Plus, that’s more eco-friendly! I’d also check out cleancult! They have refills in cartons, so it’s not as zero waste. And you have to make sure that your recycling program accepts cartons. But I really like their products! I have a review on them as well! Hope that helps!! Thanks for watching!! 😊🌏

Usually the way I know something cleans is if it breaks down grime and grease well if that makes sense. I tend to just use Pine-Sol or the Ajax dilute-able cleaner and then finish with thick bleach to disinfect, or if my counters aren’t too bad and greasy I’ll just sweep loose crumbs and debris on the floor (vacuum right after), and just use thick bleach

Honestly, how do you get your vinegar and ingredients to make your own soap? Don't you buy that in big plastic bottles? Unless you have a refill grocery store near you, it's not really much better volume-wise. So these small tablets in paper seem better.
I also wonder about there process for making them though. How much waste and plastic use goes into manufacturing? I really have no concept. I wish there was an easy answer, but Blueland seems like a decent option.

I just purchased the refill packs for the cleaners (bought 2 different sets of 3 tablets, was 13.50 USD, equivalent of 6 bottles of cleaner), if you already have some used empty spray bottles, it seems like a good way to dip your toes in the water to test. (Just make sure you re-label them, hah!) Even the laundry one, if you can reuse and old tin around the house, that's another thing that gets a second life. The shaker and the foam pump might be harder to source, I have a few cheap foam pumps that I refill using Dr Bronners, watered down at their recommended 1 to 4 parts water ratio. Really good cheap hand soap. I buy the giant 32 oz bottles of soap and it lasts my family roughly a year.

I know this comment thread is kind of old and you may have already got the answer you were looking for. I've been looking into this product and they have a number of pending patents associated with the tablets. One of them is the inclusion of a preservative method that discourages bacteria growth due to the variability of tap water around the country.
As for the video reviewer that mentioned a more artificial cleaning smell, this is because essential oils and fragrances come in traditionally liquid form and would be hard to compact into tablets and dry. They bind the smell into silica which releases the fragrance when introduced to water.
Edit: I was listening along while typing. One of the concerns with reusing bottles from other products is breakdown leaching chemicals over time. Please make sure reused containers are certified against any potential leached chemicals.

My bottle broke too, when I dropped it, so it went into the trash (landfill.) I contacted the company and they said they had redesigned it and sent me two new ones.

I bought the laundry tabs and hated them. My sons stinky t shirts came out still stinky! After I dried them with a scented dryer sheet, they still stank. Fast forward to a second wash with double the tabs. The scent remained. Because I bought it more than a month before I used it, they refused to refund my purchase. I’m going to have to buy liquid fabric softener to use with the ones with which I am stuck.

Stephanie Krinsley Darn! Maybe you can try putting a little dash of baking soda in with your wash? Sometimes that helps. Hopefully you find something that works for you!

I tried these, my bottles leaked from the start and window cleaner was ok .the other cleaners did not work well, especially in the kitchen for food splatters or the stove. Wish they were better; like to reduce waste but won’t buy again. Very disappointed

2 questions. What size are the bottles and how did it clean??? You talk a lot about scent but how did it actually do with grease, mildew, etc

Okay. . .but how well these actually do at cleaning??? 😞 It's great that they smell subtle and don't leave a residue but do they actually kill the bacteria left from raw chicken on a counter or germs on the toilet? I feel like that is a major factor that's just completely ignored.

I like the angle they’re going for with zero waste but I really have to question how eco friendly they are when accounting for emissions to deliver those packages to your doorstep. Still a cool idea, if nothing else the bottles look cooler than the average cleaning product’s.

Joel Ramirez I believe blueland is now carbon neutral to account for their emissions

Joel Ramirez Like the comment above states, they are carbon neutral! I’ve heard it’s actually more eco-friendly to purchase items online. 😊 And because you only need to buy the bottles once, it saves space and energy when shipping the refills. 🌏😊

My only concern, I’m not sure if you are using the same cleaning towel in every spots you clean..... if that was the case, there is a hygiene issue and maybe you can’t smell each scents, your cleaning towel absorbed every 🦠 🦠 ..... not a good 💡

Thanks but you’re test wasn’t as convincing because everything you clean was almost perfectly if you’re reviewing a cleaning product you have to test with something reasonably dirtied as to say it normally works and an extremely dirty situation to say is very good thanks for your input anyway God Bless

Chris The cleaners are okay. The bathroom is my least favorite as it doesn’t suds up like I am used to. I used it on my shower and I used half the bottle for just a week of cleaning the shower alone. I am not going to use it on my toilet because it’s pointless in my opinion. But for bathroom surfaces and tiles anew cool.
The multisurface cleaner is the most worthwhile in my opinion but it isn’t anything like fabuloso, bleach etc. there’s not a strong smell or foaming/ bubbly agents.
The glass cleaner is also okay, but I used it with a regular cotton rag and with a microfiber towel. The microfiber towel were the only things that left my windows and mirrors non-streaky and clean. All of the cleaners feel watered down and not as potent as I would have liked them to be so I don’t have to keep spraying and wasting product.
I still have tons of BBW soaps to go through so I haven’t opened the hand soap yet but I would imagine it would be of the same quality.

Never heard of acrylic bottles, usually PET bottles, ie water bottle type, tough recycla le plastic. Solid tablets not effective for glass cleaning, too much residue, streaking.
No comparative, side by side testing, useless review.
