    We all have blonde moments. Some more than others hahaha moral of the story, clean your shakers 😂
    I haven't tried the bathroom tabs yet, but will test it and give feedback either here or in a new video (lmk if you want to see that 😀)

    So as a molecular biologist with a background in chemistry as well, sudsy has nothing to do with how well something cleans. The suds are added for mostly psychological purposes. The cleansing properties of a product are separate from their foamy properties.

  • @tylerkochman1007
    @tylerkochman1007 2 роки тому +32

    Suds are not necessary to get your laundry clean.
    People just (wrongly) associate sudsing with cleaning. In fact, often times laundry detergents are unnecessarily formulated to sud, just to satisfy the misconception of consumers.

    I use the blueland powder dish soap and dishwasher tablets too, I 100% agree with not buying their containers! My goal is to not buy extra “stuff”. I use an old sugar shaker for the dish soap, and a canning jar for the tablets. Works great, and they were already in my house. I enjoyed your video, I’m just getting started with the sustainability thing, so I’m always glad to learn more. Thanks for the review! Edited to add, my sister loves the bathroom cleaner, but she says the window cleaner is awful.

      I love the idea of a sugar shaker for the dish soap powder! It's always so fun hearing what others do to reuse things they own. I'm very new as well, so my videos aren't as helpful as other YTers, but I enjoy talking about this subject and I think it's important for everyone to be talking about it. I'm learning as I go, and I just want to share my experiences. I'm uploading my review about using the bathroom cleaner tomorrow! I really like it as well. I've heard bad things about the window cleaner too haha so I won't be buying that one 😂

      I like the sugar shaker thing. I find it a fun challenge to find ways to reuse things I already have. I ADORE the dish powder. It cuts grease like nothing else. I also get the clothes washer tabs. I put them in a plain mason jar.

    For laundry detergent, I recommend Tru Earth Laundry strips! You just tear up one strip and sprinkle it with your clothes in the laundry machine. Only one strip per load, the packaging is recyclable, and if you get the fresh linen scent it smells amazing!

    • @RedRoseSeptember22
      @RedRoseSeptember22 2 роки тому +2

      Ooh I'll have to try that :D have you heard of Earth Breeze? Also laundry strips, am curious how those are as well.

    • @LL-bh5ps
      @LL-bh5ps Рік тому

      I’ve been using Tru Earth for a little over 2 years now and have zero complaints! I find it especially helpful for both sets of grandparents as it’s much easier to “lug” an envelope of sheets rather than a giant jug of soap. Absolute favorite switch :)

    • @AMV291
      @AMV291 Рік тому +2

      Tru earth strips have pva which is a micro plastic that isn't actually biodegradable and ends up in water systems.

    • @violettippet5246
      @violettippet5246 Рік тому +2

      Laundry strips were my favourite low-waste switch, but sadly I learned they have PVA which CAN be biodegraded in very specific conditions. Sadly most of it (like 90%) isn't because most wastewater treatment facilities and septic tanks do not have the right conditions. If it doesn't biodegrade, it turns into microplastics. This is the same for laundry detergent pods and dishwasher pods. (Everyone talks about laundry strips, but cascade pods and tide pods have the same issue.) I now use Nellie's in bulk, for 1100 loads of laundry powder. Blueland does not use PVA and they are tablets not pods. Other companies that do tablets are Myni and Naturebee. They are cheaper than blueland. I just purchased blueland dishwasher tablets, and I was floored it was going to cost me $0.50 a load. Then I discovered Myni, and bought some more dishwasher tablets at $0.33 a load. I will buy mine from myni from now on. If your choices are between Tide pods and laundry strips, the laundry strips win when it comes to the environment. But both cause issues, it's just Tide pods cause more issues.

    Great review and sense of humor. I read somewhere that sudsing isn't a measure of cleaning ability. I think they said dish soap makers add a sudsing agent because it makes you think it cleans better or you add more soap as you wash while laundry detergent suds less but still cleans.

    Just got my starter pack from Blueland. (Blame Trent and Allie!)Very well packaged, took a while to reach me in the UK. Looks very nicely made, contained the liquid foam soap, bathroom cleaner, multi surface cleaner and glass cleaner. Soap is lovely and smells gorgeous, the multi-surface cleaner seems to work well and smells good, glass cleaner is great, I have glass in my lounge door and my dogs press their noses against it, cleaned up perfectly and the bathroom cleaner brought my sink up sparkling. I am thinking of ordering the toilet cleaner but for my laundry, I started using Earth Breeze sheets and they work really well so will stick with them. Not sure about dishwasher tabs.

    i LOVE the dropps laundry pods. they also don't produce a lot of suds, but they for sure clean well, and the scents are wonderful. i noticed that they make my laundry smell naturally clean rather than chemically/artificially clean. my cousin remarked that it smelled like someone beat it against a rock and it was the perfect way to describe it 😂

    • @tiffanymcnerlin157

      I've been using Dropps for a couple months now, and I'd say they're my favorite so far! Yea I noticed they don't get too sudsy either, but I'm learning to get used to that (I hear it's the agitation of the machine that actually cleans the clothes anyway lol). Maybe not strong enough for someone whose career causes them to get dirty/sweaty, but for me they do just fine :D

    I don’t rinse my dishes and the dishwasher tablets clean just fine. Everything I clean with this blue land now and I love all of the products, I spray the shower with the bathroom cleaner and that seems to do a good job the everything spray cleaner I even go over my furniture with that my counters my stove microwave etc. does a good job with everything same with the glass cleaner. I do my doors windows mirrors etc. everything I’ve tried by them works great and I want to try the cloths now that they just came out with. I only wash laundry with cold water and it seems to clean everything sometimes with my husband’s work clothes just in case I’ll throw in a little extra washing soda or borax for a little bit of a boost along with an extra tablet.

    One idea to check for with the laundry tablets...feel the water with your hand to see if it is more "silky" than without the laundry tabs. I use Shaklee Basic L for my laundry, and it also needs warm water to dissolve best. So is run some warm water, swish it with my hand, then add the clothes and switch to cool water.
    I do love the Blueland hand soap, and when I refill I just do it the night before so it is totally dissolved without shaking. Based on your video review, I will now try the dish soap powder.

    • @tiffanymcnerlin157
      @tiffanymcnerlin157  2 роки тому

      Yes, that's what I already do with Dropps laundry pods. The Blueland tabs, even with hot water, take many minutes to dissolve for me. Others have had success with their laundry tabs, and that's great, but I personally found a better match with another product. The dish soap powder is definitely a keeper! It works best with a sponge.

  • @katrinhasnolife
    @katrinhasnolife 3 роки тому +3

    I wonder if the laundry tabs were formulated for HE washers? Those generally use less soap. Either way though if they require hot water, that's wears on a lot of clothes quicker and requires more energy so not a great option for being eco friendly in my mind.
    Thanks for the in depth review! Really helped me not product and money.

    • @tiffanymcnerlin157
      @tiffanymcnerlin157  3 роки тому

      Thank you for watching! Blueland says the laundry tabs are suitable for both HE and standard machines. I'm currently using Dropps and they don't get too soapy either, but I feel like the product works better (and it can dissolve in cold/warm temps). However, I felt like I should have emphasized more in this video the fact that I have very hard water. It has definitely been a learning experience LOL going from using a strong detergent like Tide, which is able to tackle hard water, to using greener brands.

    I have extremely hard water and the tablets dissolve in the cold water still I just fill up the machine first to be sure but I haven’t had any problem with them dissolving. I also have a lot of iron in my water and the spray cleaner seems to do well in the bathroom. I have to keep on top of it or my toilet in my shower will get an orange color of the pink bathroom cleaner does a fantastic job.

    Do you use a sponge or brush when cleaning your dishes with the Blueland soap? I've wanted to try it, but I'm a brush person, and I've heard it's really only good with a sponge.

      I own both a sponge and brush, and will use either depending on what I'm cleaning. The dish soap works well enough with both, but I'd have to agree and say the sponge is slightly superior.

      Thank you! Apologies for the late reply haha I've been trying to remember what I used for this wash day (I make hair videos on my channel as well 😀). For this, I used Treluxe Reflex Serum, AG Recoil, and Mixed Chicks Styling Gel, and I used a Denman brush as well (hair is very fine and webs up easily so I can't go without brushing). Some other HG favs for me would be Kinky Curly Curling Custard and homemade flaxseed gel.

    Are they’re packages really compostable ? I just received some of their products and was shocked to see the small packets with the soap refills and the dishwashing powder bag seem to be be mixed material packaging with aluminum inside ? I’m confused. I’m new to this stuff and wanted to compost the packaging 🤷🏽‍♀️

    • @tiffanymcnerlin157
      @tiffanymcnerlin157  3 роки тому +4

      Hey! That's a great question actually. Blueland does claim that these bags are compostable, and the layer of aluminum inside is thin enough to degrade. I'll insert the link where they mention this below. I recently joined a community composting group in my area, and will ask their thoughts on Blueland's packaging/if they've ran into anything like this. I'm new as well, but it's been a lot of fun (and slightly mentally draining haha) learning about all this.

    Do you have soft water or hard water? Probably hard water but if something is gonna suds its gonna be in soft water, either way it's weird how much we rely on bubbles for cleaning, unless it's specifically formulated to not suds I'm watching those bubbles like a hawk

    I have used Blueland products for a while. I think they are good but these are not strong soaps. For me this is a good thing because I have very sensitive skin and these soaps do not cause me any skin reactions. But husband did not like the hand soap because of not being strong enough. I think they are overpriced at $1.50-$2.00 a piece. For what they are worth they should cost less than a dollar.
