    It's still warm here in Texas but the sun has finally decided to shine and the clouds are leaving us alone every day. What an awful summer it's been. It rained every day from early April until middle of July. My succulents were all stretched, exclusively grow lights not enough. But it's cool and dry now and my succulents colors have all come back. My cactus seem to be happy no matter what I do with them. They are growing happy, plump and lovely. Had lots of blooms, thanks to the tips from Anna. Wish I had a way to share photos in UA-cam.

    I put all my cacti in quite early this year, as I won't be in state to do it later. In Colorado I could have left my cacti out until this week. The frost has been very mild up to this point. I still have a few succulents outside that survived a frost of -1°C. I also had a Santa Rita Opuntia with mealy bugs, so I left it outside to possibly kill the bugs? I also gave it a soapy watering before the cold set in... All my rosette type succulents also came alive too. I thought some of them were maybe dead, but now they are green and thriving. I took some aloe propagations earlier last spring after almost killing them, and they were stressed all summer... Now they are bright green and thriving. They have almost grown back to their original size already. Super honoured to see the green children doing so well. Thanks for the video Ana. Cheers!

    FANTASTIC Fall update video Ana, and all your plants are looking so amazing, and so wonderful to see the blooms on your Aloes, and your Pilosocereus looks so beautiful in the gorgeous pot, my Euphorbia's and Aloes and Stapelias and Haworthias are all coming back into growth now its cooler, but all the desert cacti are sleeping, the weather has been very mild here in Ireland for October and I still have my not so cold hardy cacti and succulent plants outside and in the polytunnel, but I will definitely have to be bringing them in next week, I will be thinking of you when you move your plants for Winter its a lot of work, no rest for us plant wicked haha, thanks so much for sharing the wonderful update Ana, and Hans and I are sending you lots of love and happiness and CAFFEINE and PLANT POWER to Las Vegas for a fantastic Thursday XXXX

    Here in Aguascalientes Mexico the last few years it has not dropped below freezing. I have to keep a sharp eye on the forcast but I've been pretty lucky. About 4 yeas ago we had a real cold snap and many people lost their plants but back then I didn't have that many and I brought them all inside. Now is a different story, I have way too many to bring them all in, and several are just too big to move easily. . I keep my fingers crossed.

    Here in Northeast Ohio fall is well on it's way. Moraine locusts are the first trees in tis area to change color. They turned bright yellow last month and have dropped all their leaves. Other trees are no beginning to show fall color. The temperature outside is 62F with a low expected of50F. It has been raining for the last couple of hours, but is taking a rest right now. In this part of Ohio, we can expect a lot of rain or snow from now until late February with mostly dark, cloudy days. This used to be a problem, but I have lots of LED lighting so it is not so gloomy now.
    Today I am resetting the timer on my lights. From October to March, I set my timer to come on at sunrise and go off at sunset. today I will set them to come on at 7:45AM and go off at 6:30PM. Although I have little control of the temperature in my apartment, I can give them a short day in winter, so they do have an idea of the season's passing. In winter, my plant room temperature ranges from 63F to 73F. In summer it ranges from 75F to 85F, depending on outside weather, because I leave the window open except during rainstorms.
    My bursera plant leaves are turning color and getting ready to drop, so I have stopped watering them. ( I have Bursera laxiflora, Bursera microphylla and Bursera fagaroides.) I will also stop watering my cacti except for two Mams which are still blooming. My aloes have been blooming all summer and continue, so I will be watering them as well as my Aeoniums and pelargoniums.

    Hi Ana, thank you for this video. Your cactus collection is so beautiful. I live in Florida zone 8b/9a (right on the boundary of both grow zones.). So far the weather here has been somewhat cool for us for this time of year. We have been having lower 80s during the day and lowers 60s at night. I'm hoping my in ground cactus will do fine during the winter. Do you have a website you use to know which cacti and succulents are safe to leave outside? Working on creating a wheelbarrow cactus garden using the cacti and succulents I've grown inside. Now I'm second guessing the idea. I Would hate to loose my cacti and succulents due do not have giving them the proper environment.

    • @CactusCaffeine
      @CactusCaffeine  2 роки тому +1

      Oh, that sounds like a great project. I don’t use any specific website. I usually just Google a cactus and read it’s description from anywhere. Opuntia and San Pedro cactus can handle more water. Just make sure your soil is very well draining, lots more grit than organic since Florida gets a lot of rain.

  • @JanetUrsel
    @JanetUrsel 3 роки тому +1

    My cacti are still outside. They've been dry for almost two months now, as I give them their winter dormancy early, before any hard freezes. Once we start getting overnight frost (late this year) I'll bring them in at night and put them back outside in the day until daytime temps are below freezing or I get fed up, whichever comes first 😉 Then I will put them close to windows and water only about once a month until they start waking up in late winter. It would be much easier if I had a cold room to keep them in but one does what one can.

    • @CactusCaffeine
      @CactusCaffeine  3 роки тому +1

      2 months dry now? Wow, you have an early start. Lol on the “I get fed up” 😁 That happens to me when I start moving in my plants. When I get tired, everyone else that are still out will just have to stay out cause my back already hurts. 😄 Good luck to us this winter!

    • @JanetUrsel
      @JanetUrsel 3 роки тому

      @@CactusCaffeine 😂 I keep them dry on purpose (have to cover them every time it rains) because this is the only time I can give them cool and dry at the same time. Most successful cactus growers in Canada have either a cool greenhouse or a cold room. I have neither, so this is what I am trying. They are all still rather small so I don't know if this will work to make them bloom. Except for the Rebutia which responds well, but it's an easy one. It also blooms at an abnormal time because I've thrown its seasonal rhythms off. It comes in and gets warmer temperatures, shorter days and minimal water all at once. I'm sure I am confusing it... 😂

      You don’t need to keep them indoors. They can take Southern California winter as you don’t get freezing temperatures. Just protect them from heavy rains in the winter. Your weather is perfect for cactus and succulents all year round and I envy you. 😉
