Finally a man that cuts his long hair BUT keeps his hair long. So far i had only seen tutorials of men almost shaving their heads, like football players. Obviously I know how to use the machine in number 0! But I wanted this. Cool.
After years of butchered cuts by barbers at the cheap salons, at one point I realized I could do it myself at least as good (or bad) as they did and started cutting my own hair. Now it's been years since I've paid for a haircut, and my hair looks just as good as it did when I was paying to have it done.
You’re the only guy I’ve seen on UA-cam that does a self haircut with actually long hair. Everyone else already starts with a fade and thinks they are doing the most. Appreciate the video man!
Excellent guide! Followed it today and my haircut turned out marvelous, one of the best haircuts I've ever had, and the first time cutting it myself too! I went from very very long hair to this medium haircut and I could not be happier. Thank you so much for this great video!
Finally a video for guys who want something other than a "buzz cut" or a radical hair style.. I've looked at video after video and they all seem to think a guy wants a very short cut over his full head or, If not that, a "highly styled" cut. I'd say (though I have no proof) that most guys just want a cut that is suitable for their work in a "mixed and multicultural environment. That is, few people are really "rock stars or hip-hop artists" and just need a "good hair cut". Thank you for providing this. It's exactly what I (and countless other guys) need. Respect!
The principle of thinning out the bulk with the No. 8 guide, then progressing down to the 6, then further refining worked GREAT on my longish hair! This was a fabulous video!! Thank you!

Big THANKS !!! I tried it after seeing your video. Got myself some Wahl trimmers, put on the large tooth guide and I found it was super easy and my hair looks fine. Now I feel stupid I'd been going to hair salons my whole life. Thanks for the pointers, it turned out really great and was actually fun to do !! WINNING !!!
I used this video to cut my own hair. I have silver hair that is completely straight and shows every flaw. I haven't had my hair cut in about 15 weeks. It actually came out pretty good. I'm impressed with the video.
As a woman, I just wanted to say "Thanks!" I watched your video a couple of times, and took the plunge yesterday! Yes, I was desperate. I have always hated long hair, and after 8 months, it was getting very annoying. My longest attachment was 6, and you used an 8? You can imagine how frightening it must have been, even if only one other person (my partner) would see me. Both he and I are impressed with my new hairstyle. Anyway, of all the videos I watched, this was the best. You were calm and cool, which to me was a great plus. So, just THANK YOU.

I gotta say I was amazed at the sharp-looking end result! I even got the wife’s stamp of approval. I will be cutting both of my sons’ hair tomorrow 😁 Keep up the great work!
Thats great to hear @arealjbmxg1 you will be saving a lot of money from now on! I also learned how to cut my hair from a UA-cam video and I haven't gone to the barber shop in over 7 years now!
These is helpful advice. Any ideas where to cut your hair? I am doing it in H&M changing cabins because of the mirrors. But I am afraid they will catch me one day.
My wife had her cosmetologist license, cut my hair for 33 years...she passed away 2 yrs ago and ive yet to get a cut from super cuts I like....after watching your video, and the clippers she left behind for me I KNOW I can DO IT! Thanks to you! No complicated "guide lines" and scissors like she used to do it -- just gonna Take down The Bulk like you showed :) I'll let you know how good it turns out!! THANKS!!!

The best self haircut video on UA-cam! You're so honest by actually doing a longer hair cut for all to see and a great result. Mine is being done today. Thanks very much and stay safe and well. ,🇬🇧🌞🌻
Best demonstration of all. At last someone very clearly showing how to use the clippers and trimmer on longer hair. Most youtube vids show cutting already short hair much shorter. I've only got to 6 mins of this Video and already it's taught me masses and so now I can confidently go and buy a Clipper online. Thank you for this super tutorial. Will go watch now to the end.
Thanks so much man! Cut my hair lockdown today similar to how you did only I went even further down to a #3 (my hair was nowhere near as long as yours to start so I adjusted it). Looks so much better and got rid of most of that bulk, thank you 👍

Thanks to these videos, I am beginning to get a hang of it. The first time was a disaster, but I could make significant progress during each subsequent session. An important aspect of self barbering is to understand the best guide comb size. Every individual has his preferences.

This might be the only video for cutting longer men's hair with this kind of device. It's the only one I found in a reasonable time. I'll be using the Wahl MC3 Color Pro Plus with 10 length attachments, a left and right angle cut, an eyebrow trimmer and an ear trim guide. Your overall length is about what I want and your tutorial should get me what I'm looking for. You even mention to long and closed/shorter blade positions. I'll start with the #8 1" guard comb, long position, and then #6 ¾", shorter position, and be careful about using shorter ones gradually if needed. I like to brush back the sides beside the ears, so I decided to use ¾" or not. I have cut off the back bottom length before, done the neck work rounded and trimmed around the ears with a Wahl Beard Trimmer (my cheap Barber Shears are too coarse and don't work clean for that), but this will be my first complete haircut by myself. You show all the steps to make it much easier for me. I can see where your Verivue 3 Way Self Haircut Mirror could be helpful and handy, but I'll live without it for now. If I decide to get one, I will use your link. The MC3 comes with scissors, but I have a pair of Fiskars, 8" overall length, 3½" blades, that have done fine for haircuts. Thank you very much! I'll keep this video for future reference.
I do this once every 12 to 18 months and always forget how during that time interval. Thanks for the tips! Thankfully I can screw up the back as much as I want and have my wife fix it.
This is the second time of me coming to this video to see how to cut my hair. The first time turned out great, now this time also did. Feels nice being able to cut my own hair

Fantastic thank you... I usual only fade the sides and back after watching your fade tutorial... And usually go to barber every 7 weeks but now because of corona I'm gonna have to cut the top myself as well.... Thanks again
@@JoosySmooyay Same! Quarantine made me buy a clipper and try it at home, worst case scenario I shave if it ends up looking too bad. Turns out it actually looks decent and now I will save me the monthly barber money from now on.
I saw how slowly the hair is cut, so you can start out with what he did, #8, very mild. Do small 'baby steps' sections at a time. Practice with a comb first, getting used to working with 2 hands behind your head and side, to get the eye-hand coordination, then use the tool in the OFF position just to practice the eye-hand coordination, then try it powered on. Remember, the only difference between a good haircut and a bad hair cut is about 2 weeks (when it grows out! ha ha) Take courage and train your hands, you can do it. (I am a coach and Driver's Ed teacher, I break down the big skill with tiny skills to teach my students and helps them obtain the control they need, which builds their confidence little by little.) In other words, do a Dry run, No power Run then a real powered run.
Thank you. I've been cutting g my own hair for years and this vid makes it a lot simpler. I was doing so much more and getting the same end result. Thanks again.
I super like your video especially the part when you say...'if it's your first time, just take your sweet time' well, it is my first time, since growing my hair after chemo therapy. And have watched your video 3 times before finally starting.
My hair has been growing for a year and just a bit longer than yours. Been thinking of using #8 all the way through for an even cut, but now I will try your method first. What's that old saying, when the student is ready the teacher will come.
This is excellent stuff, dude. Maybe this is all old news or otherwise super intuitive for other folks, but as someone who has had exactly one hairstyle for basically ever, which I maintain myself with clippers, a #5 guard on top and a #3 on the sides, this stuff is this stuff is the black magick qaballa up in here
Nice guide. The trick of stopping at a 2 is really good if you're always messing up the back like I have in every previous attempt. Still need more practice, because it looks like a child cut my hair at the back, but that's better than the "looking like I got attacked by a hedgetrimmer" look I had from all my prior haircuts before discovering this video 😂 Gonna try and perfect that, and then move to using a 1 again once I have. Also a bonus tip from my attempt today: If you're having trouble rounding/straightening out the bottom of the back, and your hand-eye co-ordination sucks in the mirror, then it can actually be easier with a razor, because it's easy to be precise one-handed, unlike the clippers. Get it rough with the clippers, and then fix your mistakes/make it even with a razor. :)
@@BigBoss-lm6cf I hope you have some clippers because wherever I looked all the decent ones were sold out. I finally found one and it should be here next week. And if doesn't go well, I'll be wearing my winter hats for three months! Lol!
Very well explained and practically demonstrated. I started searching a proper explaining of the hair cut and finally found out this video which has satisfied me a lot Thanks a lot for the beautiful explanation & demonstration.
Great video!I have been cutting my own hair and my son's hair for 15 yrs.(got three grandsons in the rotation now.)Mostly do high and tights cause it's easier, always looks different though every time. Please do a flattop video (short cut !)I always put a plastic shopping bag in sink for cleanup(angry wife!) Thanks ! subscribed.
Thanks for the video. I watched other videos but all that I watched gave the end result of very short hair, which I don't want that, but your way is the best way I have seen. I will watch it again. I will try it tomorrow. Thanks
I wish you were my roommate or something so you could give me free haircuts 😂 My clippers are gonna be delivered tomorrow. Wish me luck guys I will need it! 😂
So, I just finished mine, making it a bit shorter from the bottom, that's amazing! But my brain was broken when I did that line in my back with two mirrors, then it became a bit shorter. Actually great result!
This works if you are going for a particular style. If you are just wanting to cut it short then just use the guide close to the length you want and cut it. Then blend as needed.
I have never found a video that helped me this much, he has almost exactly the same hair I have so it was super nice and understandable! (Profile picture is years ago haha)
I'm a girl who has wanted a short haircut like this for a long time, but I'm scared a hairdresser would give me a very soft, longer look. Thanks for the tutorial, I'll be trying this soon :) (Also, for anyone who cuts their hair like this, you might wanna section your hair first)
Girl same. Having someone else cut my hair makes me hella nervous. Especially since the last time someone cut it it wasn't what I wanted. I knew what I wanted but it still got screwed up.
And don't worry the salons will open up in may or June im hoping soon. But just buy the tools and give it a try if worse comes to happen just cut it shorter or just shave it off. But like anything it takes patients and practice i have done it for 5 to 6 years now. So take care and be safe and healthy
Thank you so much for the hints on self-cutting my long hair. They were very useful in overcoming my hesitation as a first-timer. One more skill I learn because of the pandemic.
Same! I try a different barber every time and they always do something that I'm not happy with. Now I dont even get my hair cut unless it becomes so long that it causes problems like going into my mouth when I eat. I've finally decided after watching many videos that I'm cutting it myself ! Good luck to me. I'm gonna need it
Last time I went to a barber I literally showned this cut but a tiny bit smaller, no joke dude gave me a skin fade and a wonky bird nest shitty top. Like wtf did I do to you for you to make me thi shit. I miss my old school proper barber
Thank you for this tutorial!! I use this as a guideline everytime and it works great!!! Except I make sides and back a bit shorter. Still a long way to master the trim line on the back tho. The hardest part!!! Good luck everyone!

(I am a coach and Driver's Ed teacher, I break down the big skill with tiny skills to teach my students and helps them obtain the control they need, which builds their confidence little by little.) In other words, do a Dry run, No power Run then a real powered run.
He has to cut his hair , see himself in the mirror, and get everything recorded in video. Most difficult job. Respect
Thank you. I've been cutting g my own hair for years and this vid makes it a lot simpler. I was doing so much more and getting the same end result. Thanks again.
Fredrick Jones, glad it helped! My pleasure
Crispy Apple, awesome. And I just released another, if you want it to be a bit shorter than this. Using an 8 all around won’t look great
This is excellent stuff, dude. Maybe this is all old news or otherwise super intuitive for other folks, but as someone who has had exactly one hairstyle for basically ever, which I maintain myself with clippers, a #5 guard on top and a #3 on the sides, this stuff is this stuff is the black magick qaballa up in here
Thanks! This just gave me confidence to cut my pixie!
Nice guide. The trick of stopping at a 2 is really good if you're always messing up the back like I have in every previous attempt. Still need more practice, because it looks like a child cut my hair at the back, but that's better than the "looking like I got attacked by a hedgetrimmer" look I had from all my prior haircuts before discovering this video 😂
Gonna try and perfect that, and then move to using a 1 again once I have. :)
Thank you. I’m learning how to advance my fade cuts, with your videos . Thank you for taking the time to show details. 👋.
i think most of us are here because the quarantine
can't lie I'm thinking of growing it out, but the vid is still useful tho
I am starting to look like Sasquatch and all the barbers are closed, so pretty soon I'll be trying this on myself.
Yeah 😂
@@BigBoss-lm6cf I hope you have some clippers because wherever I looked all the decent ones were sold out. I finally found one and it should be here next week. And if doesn't go well, I'll be wearing my winter hats for three months! Lol!
True
Wow! Thank you for posting this! I’m not so scared now to cut my own hair. Still nervous, though.
Very well explained and practically demonstrated. I started searching a proper explaining of the hair cut and finally found out this video which has satisfied me a lot
Thanks a lot for the beautiful explanation & demonstration.
All done with clippers and bare hands 🙌🏽 Just need to order the clippers and thanks 🙏 to this video my excess locks will be hairstory 😀
i followed your steps and this is the best style i've had. thank you
I enjoy watching your videos and this one is my favorite! Thanks to your video and the pandemic; I learned to cut my own hair.
Great video!I have been cutting my own hair and my son's hair for 15 yrs.(got three grandsons in the rotation now.)Mostly do high and tights cause it's easier, always looks different though every time. Please do a flattop video (short cut !)I always put a plastic shopping bag in sink for cleanup(angry wife!) Thanks ! subscribed.
Nice job! My husband insists I still cut his hair although the shops are open...still learning but he's happy, thanks!
I have followed your instructions and it did work for me. I look awesome now. Thanks for sharing this.
Jigyy, 😂👍🏼
Well?
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
lol did it work out for you?
Kintsugi I regularly use this method. It’s a piece of piss! Get on it bro 👍🏻
Thanks for the tips! Most importantly this saves me about $300 per year since I've been cutting my own hair.
🤯 sir, this is awesome, thank you! I thought a lot about the same way but was doubtful and you just did it perfectly !
So, I just finished mine, making it a bit shorter from the bottom, that's amazing!
But my brain was broken when I did that line in my back with two mirrors, then it became a bit shorter. Actually great result!
This is great. I do cuts this way too.. Also you can part in the middle and bring the 8 up to the temple and you can part it either side that way
Cody the Barber, great! Thanks for the tip and your comment
@@TipsforClips thanks for your content
I'm going to give this a try! The best video tutorial I could find for my longer hair. Thanks!....and wish me luck!
This should work very well on girl’s short hair too. Thank you!
Defenitley needed for someone like me who looks terrible with short hair or long hair just exactly the haircut I needed huhu
Didn't go to any barber for two years cause they would always mess it up. Thanks it's useful.
Kristóf Áron, my pleasure. Thanks for your comment
Thank you for this video! I've noticed that many videos show how to use the clippers to reduce or trim your sides. But what about the top?
This guy has been having beef with his barber so he started to cut his own hair from now on lol
Me too)
😂😭🤣
Same here..I think my barber dislikes me
Lol🤣🤣🤣
ikr
Thank you so much for the hints on self-cutting my long hair. They were very useful in overcoming my hesitation as a first-timer. One more skill I learn because of the pandemic.
Thank you. Very tempted to try this. My barbers keep retiring.
Barber's always cut my hair incorrectly. I'll be doing my own from now on.
J.B dude I have been cutting my hair for the last 15 years... image how much money u can save
@@sammythewarrior or just keep long hair 😗
@@sammythewarriorI haven’t paid for a haircut in 20 years. I reckon I’ve saved myself about $10k in haircuts.
Thank you for this tutorial!! I use this as a guideline everytime and it works great!!! Except I make sides and back a bit shorter. Still a long way to master the trim line on the back tho. The hardest part!!! Good luck everyone!
Especially the trimming lines at the back urself. Great 10/10.
Skilled young man. for best results, should we wash hair first?
