Josiah Mitchell But GoPro has protune option and some extra like 2.7 K @ 60 FPS even better videos then 4 K @ 30 FPS and for dark time like Time lapses or even Night lapses use some extra light and you get so alsom video.... and have remote control for GoPro!!!!

I have the Akaso ek7000 and the campark cam.. both cost a total of about 150bucks, still a quarter then a go pro.. it does what I need it to do and that's all It's matters to me.. all the other functions doesn't make up the price go pro is set at.. plus you wouldn't even know what cam you used if you didn't actually see it recording.. I'm happy with these cams.. go pro is just all hype and just for people to show and say hey look I have a go pro lol
Compare two camera in term of picture quality per dollar. GoPro is like a joke to me. I'll buy the $80 one and still have enough money for a decent laptop.

Couldn't agree more. I don't have an action cam, but I'm on a tight budget. I have been thinking about buying some Chinese models but I still can't make up my mind investing in one of those.
But tthe Hero 5 Black is a draw back from the Hero 4. Just read some reviews of it. Unacceptable. Get the Yi 4K instead.

The Eken, like many of the budget '4K capable' cameras, produces interpolated 4K video. It's not true 4K like the GoPro. An important point to note.
The H8 does you're right but the H8 pro does not. It's native 4K. The H8 pro is very hard to beat at that price at the moment.
iftibashir the thieye t5e is one of the few that do native 4k without interpolation. Its currently 100$ on gearbest

You can change the EKEN camera via the EZ ICAM app for warmer/colder colors. I have a video on it.

the gopro is better I think, but not anywhere close for the price difference to be justified. In my opinion its the audio that makes me go with the pro. That being said, I don't own a gopro, I have clones and this is far the best I have heard of, I will be buying and I am grateful for the time showing me this !

gopro seems to have higher dynamic range, deeper audio, but a softer image. Eken seems sharper; is this artificial sharpening?
It seems the contrast has been cranked way up in the Eken..... shadows are way too dark. Looks like a point and shoot or phone video. The sony sensor should have enough dynamic range, so it must be in the firmware or codec that is messing it up.
That video look is horrible!! I wish that these cheap action cameras would release a version with a flat picture profile similar to Protune!

the colors and hear or there on these cameras. The biggest thing I see constantly on the chinese action cameras is the lack in showing detail on blacks (shaded areas), but for less then 1/5 of the price, I still think theyre definitely worth it

Looks like the clarity is almost as good as the go pro, but the color processing is not as good. question: is there a way to hook a Mic up to this or would I have to record another way and sync it in post? That audio is terrible.

Gopro are becoming the Bose of the camera world where they are good but massively overpriced compared to the competition and do that because of advertising and brand image from past glories.

The Eken actually has better Contrast and a better dynamic range. While the Go Pro has burnt out leaves and sky the Eken has not that much burnt out places in the video.
Just to say GoPro was never worth its money.
Comparing image quality, I think the Eken wins indeed. The sharpness of objects in the distance is much better, and also dynamics on the hood of the car, the difference is very clear. Taking the pricepoint of both, Eken wins and leaves money to buy a decent mic.
I agree. A friend of mine bought the Xiaomi Yi Cam. Not the newest one with 4K, but the Full HD and i think 2k also one. It cost him 80€ and its as good or even better than the Go Pro.

the 4k yi does look better then a hero 5 also on the 16th of this month the yi 4k plus comes out with 4k at 60fps for under 400 plus it comes with a killer touch screen

True. But the whites are blown out. Looks like the GoPro has more range from darks as you can see in the tree with the shadows and more range in the brights. As you can see more cloud detail in the GP while the other camera has them blown out. Not to mention GP also gives you a log to fix colors in post.
if you would have got an SD card and updated the firmware before the video it would be more accurate. they fixed the 4k and added 720 120fps that update came out in June and you can get all updates on their facebook
If they cost the same i would buy the GoPro . The hd seemed possibly just a hair bit better on the gopro but not enough difference to pay a single dime more .

Go pro is too flat and contrast vs Sony..it may be good for video software editing but the Sony has good looking colour too and superior image stabilization

I just won one of those Eken cameras from a giveaway. I have stayed away from videos and reviews of it for reasons to not be disappointed when I receive it. I am so glad I finally searched it up, this be the first video I watch of it. And man, it feels good knowing I didn't just win a piece of shit. Especially with it compared to the GoPro with this amazing video. Great job dude.
The detail to me in both cameras look very alike almost no difference, one thing I did notice is that the GoPro has better onboard post processing but I think its slightly over-saturated for my taste. The Eken has a wider focus so whatever is in view looks slightly sharper on the sides of the image while maintaining the sharpness in the center like the GoPro does. I think the Eken has deeper darker blacks but not by much and that could just be because at night it overlays a cooler color post processing filter than the GoPro giving it the illusion of a better contrast. One thing I am interested in though is if the Eken has a setting to disable post processing so you can bring out more detail and colors if you decide to edit the footage later on like the GoPro has.

If you don't know better, you can't see the differences in quality, only the price.
Had a gopro once, sold it the next day. GOPRO - overpriced. that EKEN sure does give better video and also included the lcd not like the go pro you have to buy the LCD seperate.
But LCD need more power from one battery! So there is that 50-60 min time!!! Plus no touch screen LCD! and missing 60FPS option
GoPro are overpriced just like iPhones but no way EKEN got better video, colors are fucked up and sharpness hurts the eyes.
The Eken H8 is almost equal to the GoPro. Slight color differences but not noticeable enough to pay a hundred dollars plus more for the Go Pro. In my opinion GoPro has become way to expensive as well as the accessories. I'll buy the Eken model now after seeing this review. For a action camera it will do the job and save enough to buy another. Great review and examples.
This is actually one of the closest contenders to the gopro before we look at the price. It beats the gopro if you add in the price, but then the gopro does have less contrast in some of it's shots, like that green sign on the highway. Plus got PT, but for a great second camera for b roll i think i'm going to have to check this out, cheers dude

One thing for sure, GoPro has better dynamic range. Check the cloud at 14.59 to 15.22. A lot of highlights on Eken got clipped compared to GoPro. And at 14.27 to 14.54 while the car was stopping at stop lights. Look under the flyover. GoPro manage to recover the shadow compared to Eken where the shadow area got clipped. My 2 cents.

In common with many action cameras around this price point, the Eken H8 is NOT real 4K. Its "4K" output is upscaled (interpolated) from 2.5K, so there is no point whatsoever in running it in 4K mode as you don't get any more detail than 2.5K and may actually get worse quality than 2.5K if it reduces the bitrate to cope with the larger amount of data to be written to the card.
The H8 Pro apparently is capable of real 4K but obviously costs more. Still, this looks like quite a capable little camera, and worth shortlisting. I plumped for the SJ5000x Elite instead of this one - very similar picture quality but the SJ has gyro stabilisation and I thought that would be useful - but in practice the gyro hurts the sharpness/detail so much that I don't really want to use it and plan to use a gimbal instead.
GoPro is way overpriced. They are probably using the same supplier in China.

The Eken really beats the living crap out of the GoPro. Better resolution, color temperature seemed more balanced on it as well. For that's price there is no need to spend so much money on a GoPro, specially for racing quads that they are almost disposable with the crashes that they get. This camera can really shoot 4K 30fps. I checked specifically. The only bug is when the camera is shooting in 4K or 2.7K impossible to stop recording using the remote. Only by pressing a button.

action cameras are mostly for sports videos or vacation videos which in youtube then are compiled with some song, For me-audio quality absolute irrelevant. Only con for clone i see is shaking when filming freehand; on car dashboard clone picture quality looked better: crispier and if you notice road sign on the left side in night in a gopro was almost invisible compared to clone 16:23, ok-maybe this would be irrelevant to you :)

GoPro color is more accurate and in the onboard audio is far superior but the price difference makes the Eken the obvious choice. Product durability and support might be a different story though.

Even clearly better picture quality. Look at the blades of grass and the the superior color of the clouded sky. At night as well. (watching on iPad Pro)
gopro is a great brand name its one category alone even if the result makes no difference to to begginers haha but eken is realy amazing action camera especially for its price. I m impressed
i have both... its a bit of a hard one. but when i head out i go for the eken most the time. the saturation is a bit sweeter on the eken but in lower light it gets a but noisy. plus i don't mind throwing it about and making it work harder for the price i paid.the 4k and 2k is 15fps doubled. doesn't shoot at 740p. is 1080 @ 60 / 30 FPS. i don't shoot continuous but it lasts me for near enough the day on /off usage
The Eken is a little sharper as well, you can notice it in the grass at the playground.

Its not based on the quality of the microSD but is based on how fast the card can read/write data. For 4K footage you need to have a class 10 or great microSD of *any* brand or size.

those sony sensors tend to be a bit cooler. i dont care much for the saturation on the h8 though. when i shoot photo and videos i like to shoot as flat as possible. and fix it later in post
the only other issue i see is the possible distortion of the image when moving like when you were by the tree the lens seemed to have a "wave" about it

Wow...I paid 499.00 dollars for my hero 4 black back in 2015...I wish this camera was out at time when I did. That screen on the back of that camera is great. My gopro only has a tiny display that is hard to see while making changes in the menu.

The thing that kills me about all these action cams is that absolute lack of detail. Especially when they claim to be 4K. There are so many artifacts and the image is never crisp. I got a GoPro hero 3 right after the 4 came out and I used it a few times before throwing it in a drawer and forgetting about it. The color isnt *terrible* here but the footage from mine looks like the saturation slider was smashed to the left. As someone that does a lot of photography and filming with actual 4k video cameras I just cant bring myself to use an action cam for anything other than b-roll from a car mount. Great review though!! Dont get me wrong, I really enjoyed your video! It's just the cameras I dont like.

Most of the time the GoPro was a bit better, but in the park there was times when the Eken video seemed better, the go pro seems to have better sound quality. I'd be happy with the Eken, it should fit into my kaideng k70 drone that's arriving later this month, so it looks like I might be buying an Eken action camera.
Eken H8 looks better in every way to me. Better contrast, better colour, better detail. Doesn't look like you can go wrong for the money.

Why people expect that we could judge 4k camera through small thumbail picture on youtube? You need to give 1:1 crop and even than youtube compression ruins most possible differencies.
