  • This is the maiden voyage of my new propane furnace. I'm melting copper and doing a lost foam casting of an egg. Which seems simple initially until I begin the finishing process of the egg. It becomes more tedious than I had anticipated.

Nice video. A few tips: never walk over your connector hose, always heat your tongs and your molds especially when they are metal!!

Haha, you're hooked on molten metal now like me! Looks like a nice little furnace.
Suggested next project: make yourself some proper tongs to lift your crucible in and out of the furnace safely, you're making me nervous grabbing it by the rim like that.
Come join us other molten metal maniacs from around the world over at the alloyavenue, com and/or thehomefoundry, org forums if you haven't already, there's tons of great backyard metal casting info and people with a wide range of casting experience there willing to help and learn.

I agree, I need some better tongs to lift the crucible out of the furnace.

And yes, I am hooked. It's just a really fun hobby. I wish I had more time to do it actually.

MakerCK Studio yeah, I hear you there. Finding time to make castings can be tricky, especially having kids and a full time day job, etc... Right now my whole foundry space is kinda snowed in anyhow so I'm using my hobby time to upgrade some of my melting equipment and maybe work on some patterns to cast up once winter ends! 😀
