4x4 Build Ep.7 - Car Struts, Tube Frame
- Continuing the work on the tube frame. Customizing new car struts of the Peugeot Partner to fit the lighter Volkswagen Golf 1 rear axle springs on them. Starting work on the roof structure / roll bar of the UTV. Utilizing old parts such as the cargo hull framed divider wire mesh as a divider on the UTV as well. Realizing that the new shock absorbers are a bit taller than the older ones and that it requires a light redo on the tube frame as well.
This is part of a series of a four wheel drive utility vehicle build to lessen the work load on my trusty 2002 Honda Foreman Rubicon TRX500FA. This partially answers the question "Why?" but for those who want to ask "why don't you just buy a side-by-side instead of building one?" I just want to say - I'm not made of money. Side-by-sides are ridiculously expensive, even the car I drive around daily is worth less (not worthless though!), hell, it is even worth less than my 2002 Honda ATV.
"How much HP will it have?" - the 1.4 litre FWD petrol engine I'm planning on using has 55 kw and this will not change, but the torque will be tripled via the BMW differentials I'm using to transfer power to front and rear axles.
"It will be too heavy!" - this project just like the firewood processor project does not have to float. And a heavier vehicle will handle better anyway when hauling heavy loads.
Stay tuned for future episodes! Thanks for watching!

Could have tried installing the locker with the shock upside down?
What is your planning phase like? Do you do any sketches, drawings or you just free hand it while building? It would be nice to have just still frame on idea of what you are going for and interesting to see how that chances over time.

Side ways works too, but sometimes we forget the easiest solution and keep hitting our heads into wall, thats why its important to take step back and look problem from another angle.
Great job on it. I have stuff pop up in my thoughts like this but never makes it any further
.. for someone who knows Nothing about metal fabrication - or construction - awesome job - a pleasure to watch your work process -thanks!
Finally managed to get a 4+4 set of clamps like yours. My supplier only had two large ones and three small ones and i told him to keep them reserved until he can give me the full order. I have to say, these are some of the best clamps i have ever used outside my antique ones. Beefy, solid, there's no play in them outside what's expected. Well made tool.
Absolutely. These are a find for sure. And will last forever. They even have zerk fitting / grease nipple. That's a sign of quality.
Hey do you have a link to buy them online ? Thanks :)
Those Piher clamps are really nice! I use them on Wood and Metal Working Projects. They are fantastic!!
Great job Donn, moving right along. Measure twice cut once, did that 3 times and it still too short 🤗 !! You’re doing a great job with this project and it’ll be a work horse. Thanks for sharing with us.👍👍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
11:03 - Mike Pence's fly.
Awesome build, thanks for sharing!
nice job, tips: you can also use the tubular steel which is located behind the dashboard of the donor car it is the entire width of the car and it is extremely solid and it can help you fix your dashboard.
ps: this model was produced either in square and round tube according to its date of manufacture.
Cheers! Noted. I haven't gotten to the Peugeot dashboard yet thus I didn't know about it. Now I do, big thanks! 💪
The famous Baltic Ninja at work.
Great progress and skilled as usual.
Brilliant Donn you just get bigger and better with your projects, can't wait to see it finished, keep the videos coming
😝😝😝
I like this project. I enjoy watching the ideas being made on the fly. You can almost see the thought process as you move along. Thumbs Up. Nothing wrong with custom designing as you go...
Really enjoying watching you through this process. You're an inspiration.
This is a great idea and work. So wonderful 🥰... Like
This build feels like it is going a lot faster than the tracked vehicle. Liking it so far.
this utv is going to be a beast of a machine.
I think is a monster utv
This veicle is more compact of the past project... but more power! Waiting for the next video!!!
What a talented individual Donn is!!!!!!!!!!!
The expression while You estimating the height of the Strearing... Really awesome work...
I don't know about engineering but I want to build min Tractor for my form purpose...
You know the satisfaction right
Donn, don't be so hard on yourself man, I stroll around my workshop too... Almost like I've lost my mind!
Looking good👍🏼
Thanks for sharing your build, I am really enjoying watching you build this one 👍🏻
😝😝😝
Great build so far!
Looking good, and well done. Keep it up (from Oregon USA).
She’s looking good 👍🇺🇸
Very nice work
Great looking project , nice job so far and nice shop , thanks .
Very talented DONN/DIY😊👍🍻🍻🍻🍻
I spend a lot of time wandering around my shop too, not doing anything productive, instead searching, because I've 'lost' a tool or consumable... 'lost' because it's always right where I left it. xD
Exactly!
Very nice !! Coming along very well !! Love the way your mind works !! And to think it was all parts from something else and metal tubing !! Outstanding work love your channel !!👍👍
The dump box doesn't have enough base frame, shoulda angled the back supports out for a bigger box.
I love you vision, ready for next episode.
Right hand drive - great to see!
Yes. A small taste of Australia, NZ or UK for my parents. They've always wanted to know how these countries were like when I visited. Now I can let them drive this UTV and they'll know. 😂
_SuperB quality!_
*Keep up the great work!*
I stroll around my shop quite often too. I thought that was funny you say the same thing.😁
I will follow you from Morocco, continue
Saturday mornings with Donn!

Amazing job man.. great job!!!👏👏👏👏👏👏
That is looking really good
Nice Job👍👏
Really a very extraordinary process,,
Exquisite,,
Perfect work bro good luck 👌👌
Coming along nicely
Oh yes. It's taking such a long time :-) Ask me about my finished projects. Starting is easy, pulling to the finish line is hard. I adore your perseverance. And reuse of scrap materials ;-)
HAHA That was funny trying to get spring on shock. "Why do things take so much time"
I do both, looking for misplaced parts and tools more than doing the thinking though. 😂
Geweldig gedaan top 👍
Groetjes uit Holland 👋🏼
Making the frame is the funest part of the build, I think. I do the ninja too, I got kung fu grip ya know, LOL.
Valeuuuuu
Loving this build it’s inspiring me so to something similar! Keep up the great work Donn 🙂
Mr. Sparky, everything is grinding to a halt.
Awesome! I hope you take me for a spin once it is ready! 😁
I would love to see you build 4 wheel steering in to this project, that would be very handy sometimes.
Now that's just so much extra work why some one would love it so much I have no idea but yes u might turn better all around but there just some things that have no real reasons to make and I feel that could is one
Did someone say Hummer?
@@manueltovar4821 pl
Looks good been debating building my own or just buying one still can’t decide but this video is making me think of building one
If you have the space, go for it man. Find like a really beat up wreck you can scavenge for parts and hit it off. Great weekend project.
I'm afraid this 4x4 will be lower than you expected when ti will be finally on their wheels. Did you calculated with the weight of the vehicle? I think the building platform has to be a bit higher, and the swing arms must be on the low end position, or near it, and the wheels has to be in a bit "V" angle in the same axle.
In that case when the 4x4 will be on the own wheels, then you will have approx the right position in the range of the suspensions. The ideal position is if the suspension can move two third to up and one third to down.
The way he has built it so far could be modified a little bit different by making a plate instead of bolting it to the box tube. The plate will accept the bolts from the top of the struts and in any case if one needs to adjust the height they can add an extra plate or 2 to make it longer. The control arms, not too sure about, yet adding another couple of inches should put the control arms more at an angle.
Any thoughts on the square tube roll cage? I think I've only seen it done will bent circle tubing.
agree, said that already in last episode
I have thought about making something like this using components from a subaru outback. You are a surgeon with the cutting wheels on the angle grinder. I only started using them in the last year and wonder what I did before.
At 2 minutes in you made a comment about things taking so much time. Thomas Edison once said, “Success is 10 percent inspiration and 90 percent perspiration.”
ANNND you're a ninja too?! Man you're one bad dude...sir. lol. Love your build videos especially those awesome wheels!
Awesome job Donny
Cheers man!
You learn to apply for a car industry man ,,, you are so smart so do this at once :-) make BIG MONEY;;;;;
I understand the cave man inducing frustration. That usually occurs just before something gets thrown. 😡
🤣😂
Fortunately nothing got airborn. But there will be if my inner caveman is tempted again! 😤😝
I'm good at teaching things to fly, also...
:-D
Same lots of tools in the neibors field have to go collect them bout every two weeks. Frustrating
So basicly that’s a peugout partner on steroids. 😂😂
Nice work, keep it up👍🏻👍🏻
Yes! 💪💪💪💪😄
Doing well brother!
Great video
giant work
Looking good, that's going to be one "mean machine"
It seems like that, what your mind and eyes can perceive,
your hands can build.
A W E S O M E. ! ! !
Another great projected Donn well done looking good. subs from the u.k.
Those shocks are shocking! Scrap metal obviously doesn't exist in Estonia.
Looking sweeeeet keep at it the donn
You rocks mate
Super izdelava poznrav iz🇸🇮🇸🇮🇸🇮🇸🇮👍👍👍🖐️
Awesome 👍,many things to learn from you,my top yt friend 😘
Looking good. You seem to be getting further along as compared to the amphibious build. 👍
"cargo hull framed divider" My best guess this will be part of the dump box... As you were building it I was thinking that you were going to weld that to the frame, then I read the description and It kinda makes me think that it will be part of the box.
So far this is looking really good. I want to make a 2 wheel drive one with a 3 cylinder geo metro... Lightweight and front wheel drive.. Would make for a very nice little fast cart.
Estamos de olho 👀
👍👍👏👏
Way to go bro!
Thanks 🤩😍🤩
Next time you have to hold a shaft up until you can get it assembled try putting a rubber band tightly around the shaft where it goes into the body.
Outstanding
Great as ever!
parabéns pelas produções
Nice!
hello beautiful video
Keep it up
sorry i do not speak english
Amazing, such precision!
A pleasure to watch.
What happened to the Tracked Amphibious All Terrain Vehicle? I thought you would have added a "jet-ski" propulsion or some kind of steerable high volume water pump behind it to make you fly on the water...
Thank you so much, you're amazing to watch. The timing on your videos keeps me wanting more and more...
i hope you have a good design 👍🙏
Time spent planning is productive, even if you wander around the shop when doing so.
Yep, that is valuable thinking time.
Ugg caveman, me like, ugg, looking guud, ugg! 👍
