It's an open question for more better chess players than I when it comes to Ding or Fabi. Ding does seem to get into Magnus's head at times which I don't see from Fabi. Fabi seems to like similar positions to what Magnus likes to play; they're both all rounders in the same vein. Ding seems to find those little niches where Magnus has the most trouble. Hikaru's castling really seemed like a, "let's try to throw Fabi off guard" type of play. And it worked for a bit but Fabi had enough time to figure it out.
Fabi mentioned in the interview after the game that his b3 move was to try to bait Hikaru into castling kingside (or at least dissuade Kd7), so it was at least a pleasant surprise for him.
Well, hikaru nakamura playstyle was described as "barbarian" or "h4 monster" something like that in the past before he's turning into defensive trying to flagging like he is rn. Seems like at some moment under pressure he's back to being his original self

Hikaru the Streamer made a completely unnecessary flashy move with that castle kingside move which shifted the advantage from dead equal into whites favor and from then on Caruano just turned that slight advantage to an even bigger one until it was completely lost for Hikaru.
I think if Fabi wins the candidates, Magnus would still have some incentive in defending his title, since he hasn't beaten Fabi in the classical portion of the WCC.
I don't really think so tbh. Magnus knows that he is better than Fabi at faster time controls so I cannot see it being any different from before. It just wouldn't seem to me that Magnus should feel the need to beat Fabi in classical.
