      Ding is a great player but it is not like he wasnt playing to his best and now he switched gear. The reason why he is winning is because everybody is pushing so hard for the win even when there is no chance so they are losing completely drawn positions.

      That's kind of false, he is just playing like Magnus, squeezing water from a stone in unbalanced positions and showing how great are his calculations.

      @@monstermagnet3150 he is not squeezing anything dude. Fabi could have drawn this game no doubt. It is just that a draw wouldnt take them anywhere so he played some sub optimal moves to try and get a win. Squeezing is game 6 Magnus vs Nepo where Magnus gets a winning position after idk 7-8 hours. This is no where close.

    Ding deserves a lot more respect. Many people keep underestimating him because of his performance in the beginning, but it is common for ding to get started later in the tournament (such as last candidate).

      Come on bro. He is winning because everybody is in such a terrible stop that they need to push for the win against Ding no matter what. Dont get me wrong he is still defending very well and refuting the plays they throw at him but if it was a normal setting his last 2 wins would have been draws for sure.

      @Aen I appreciate Ding for making this competition fake interesting and make it like he is actually challenging nepo but if people complain that Nepo is playing vs blunders , lets be real both rapport and caruana could have drawn their games against Ding if a draw was what they were looking for. @@masterm1nd256 On come on, to suggest playing Ding is a must win so others push at all cost is ridiculous statement, everyone plays to win period just like Firouzja coming out with some weird untested moves against Nepo today, would you say this move would happen in a "normal tournament" ? I say Firouzja came out desperate and there are just some games where people have pointed out that Nepo got some flat out freebies but it is what it is, Nepo style is fast and weaker bottom rung player rush and then make mistakes. That is not to take anything away from Nepo's great tournament and deserving candidates tournament win at this point. Just that everyone got some breaks and some got more than others, but that is just how life works period.

    This game was frankly unforgettable: Opening advantage by Ding after Bxe1, then a few inaccuracies later, Fabiano gained a decisive positional advantage against Ding(black pawn weaknesses, passive position, unsafe king). Some time later, the advantage petered out after Rb1 and hxg5. Ding found a nice drawing line and after Fabi played Bg3, which reversed the advantage, a few inaccuracies and drawing moves were missed by both sides, including Bxg5, and Ding would win the endgame after a decisive endgame blunder. Absolute rollercoaster, not sure if I've seen a more dramatic game since Vidit v Navara in Prague.

      Then it's quite admirable Fabiano went into the worse position, sacrificing rating, for increasing his odds only marginally in order to win the Candidates, since he has went on record believing Magnus would absolutely defend the title. Perhaps he acknowledged the possibility Magnus would abdicate the crown and was playing for second place and was too frustrated to agree to the draw, so he forced his way instead of drawing with Ding. I remember that Fabi was +2 at one point and he must have known his positional advantage.

      Yep, completely agree. I watched Judit Polgar's stream (I say her stream because she is so much more insightful than Jan Gustafsson) and the feeling I got when I went to bed (Australia time) was that Fabi had it in the bag - with the engine's analysis giving about a +1 to +2 pawn advantage to him. I couldn't really see it myself since the material was equal with opposite coloured pawns. But I didn't hear any of that mentioned here. The other really interesting thing is that Fabi was asked pre-tournament if he would change his approach given that perhaps second place could see him in the world championship (if Carlsen declines to play it). His approach to this match clearly indicates that he was still chasing Nepo for first.

    I dont know what to make of this tournament anymore. Just imagine if Ding wins the rest of his remaining 3 games and not winning the candidate. Might be another one of those thing where the best players not able to play Carlsen. Just like best team not getting into the Super Bowl because of some craziness.

      Ding in ultimate form is the last hope for a challenger that can beat Magnus. Nepo will just get clapped again.

      @@thesavantart8480 I still think Fabiano Caruana in 2018 had the best chance against Magnus (if I recall, the gap was only 2 rating points so they were effectively the same strength), though Karjakin is the only player to have ever taken the lead against Magnus during a WC match.

      If ding wins 3 games and nepo draws all three they will be tied in 1st
      However if nepo wins one then you cant in any way say he doesn't deserve this
      He had a dominanting tournament untill now
      5 wins and 6 draws is crazy in the candidates
      Also he is the only player who hasn't lost yet
      Not to mention he beat ding with black

    • @kenixk1010
      @kenixk1010 2 роки тому +1

      @@pineapplesareyummy6352 Carlsen didn't beat Fabiano in 2018 in any of the 12 classical games, with all drawn. Carlsen won by tie breaker in rapid. Unlike the old day where players go weeks if not month until one player win 8-9 games before crowned champion. The new format sucks!!

    • @kenixk1010
      @kenixk1010 2 роки тому +1

      @@mno7pro323 Also put into consideration why Ding lost, he has to travel long way. What they should had done is have all players keep playing until all 8 players win three games triple double round robin. I'll beat you if Ding play Nepo in the old format of both play to win 8 or 9 games before crowned a winner, Ding will win in the long run. Anyone can beat anyone in any given day! But in the long run is another story. Look at how Magnus wrecked Nepo in that championship match. Caruana look equal against Magnus in 2018, if you only classical games are considered.
