The boat scene where Godzilla is chasing them has to be one of the most terrifying Godzilla moments ever. He was a menace.
100% agree, his eyes WATCHING them! While being so close. It was so good.
Agree 100 percent too
And you see him pick up speed when he attacks the ship so you know he was just playing with the smaller one until they actually do damage with the mine
@@sonork Thats a part that caught my attention, too. The way Big G's eyes move is so impressive and I got the impression that Big G only noticed the gunfire because it cause the most slightest pain
The way it merged into the battle with the cruiser and Godzilla obliterates the cruiser after a full blown slug out. When Godzilla surfaced after that I remember just praying he forgot about the smaller boat/wouldn’t go back to finish the job
The message of the film was really great, the main characters valuing life instead of throwing it away and saying that this was the justified war that they really should be fighting was really honorable. The scientist even said that Japan treated life too cheaply during the war and that they should be proud of having no casualties instead of sacrifices. Really great.
Well said
"You have no honor" vs "and you are a slave to it"
That black rain scene got tears in my eyes man, I haven't felt genuine emotion watching a movie like that in a while
Yeah that was heart breaking.
All I could think is how damn sad it is that the damage that a demon beast like Godzilla inflicts isn’t too far off from what countries like the US have done to eachother in the rat race for superiority
When I tell you my heart hurt watching that scene. I creid at least 4 times in the theater with other people, too.
For me the part when Tachibana told Koichi he has a ejection sit on his plane had me in tears. That part got me bcuz I really thought Tachibana wanted koichi to sacrifice himself.
Man I cried like 4 times in that damn film.
Director Takashi Yamazaki himself said in an interview that the team in charge of VFX for Godzilla was unable to complete the video production in time due to a lack of manpower, so he himself studied CG and bought a high-spec computer to produce the film.
Dude is a legend.
Hollywood studios will suck his dick for him to direct one of their shitty blockbuster movies.
I hope he keeps sane with all the harassment and temptations and focus on his vision of what cinema is.
You never see anything like this when it comes to big studios handling strict deadlines for visual effects.
Respect. Seriously, hats off to him and the rest of the production team

"Even with Godzilla" LMAO this is why Alex is the goat
Just really grateful they didn't make the main character Scarlett Johannson again 😅
One thing I like is how it focused on the fire bombing of Tokyo as that's an event that gets overshadowed in the history books by the nuclear bombs, but was actually more costly in lives for Japan.
Yes so many people died from that but many people don’t know.
I don’t think they even mention nukes once. They do show Bikini Atoll for a second.
Tokyo simply could not withstand another hit. When a few former military guys said, "we bear the brunt again!" and walked off screen they did not reappear near the end smiling. I felt for them, families gone, residential districts of Tokyo were mostly wood and paper. I lived through H/cane Andrew in 92. Neighborhoods and streets not recognizable. I was amazed that in that ruin that Shikishima found his home. However he was looking for his parents and you would find it. Great film.
The death toll from the massacre of civilians in Tokyo was about 120,000, mostly children and women, 30% of whom were between the ages of 0 and 20. First, the city was bombed in a large circle, and blocking the evacuation routes of civilians. Next, the circle was bombed in a grid pattern, then bombs were dropped to fill the grid in order to kill every last person.
@@silverlightsinaugust2756 They didn't have to because Godzilla was the allegory.
This movie was incredible. The themes, the setting, the tension, it was all excellent. Bringing it back to the 40’s was genius. I can’t believe we have this, the Monarch show, and Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire right around the corner! This will go down in history as one of the best years in Goji history.
It's good to see you here, DangerVille!!
new empire is some kind of joke.
Monarch sucks thoe.
It was slightly too long. My only complaint. Otherwise, I loved it.
@@Jokesonyou123no it doesnt LMAO
This film did the impossible. More of this please. We gotta give the Japanese their flowers and crown because this shit slaps. And seeing that atomic breath just wreck everything adjacent to it and end in the most beautiful rendition of a nuclear blast I’ve ever seen, was just icing on the cake. And we not even gonna talk about the human element because that was some Oscar worthy shit. 10/10.
Asian cinemas (Korean, Chinese, Japanese) has BEEN killing Hollywood forever now Americans just barely catching on after Marvels fatigue
@@BetterManJdm-xr3rzthis movie opened my eyes to it . Wouldn’t have been half as good if it was American
@@BetterManJdm-xr3rz yeah I was talking with my family (we're Japanese) about how I was so glad that Japanese actors' ability to express emotion in various genres was allowed to be received so widely through this movie.
respect from Romania. I noted with regret how praised this film is. It is ridiculous. It is only saved by the special effects. The separate shots of people-monsters are too frequent, the script is a catastrophe and the interpretation too expressive of these Japanese men who look like some pampered little girls when it should have been a masculine attitude made me waste my time unnecessarily. how stupid can you be to appreciate such a film, I ask.
I just watched this movie last yesterday in 4DX and my god, this has to be THE best Godzilla movie ever! Without spoiling anything, there was one particular scene where the movie goes completely silent. And the silence in the theater that coincides with this brief scene was proof how invested everyone was in this movie. Never have I been more proud of a Godzilla movie!!
Those scenes were freaking intense saw it in dx to and the sound was so great in this film everything sounded big
4DX is the wrap around panoramic screen right? How is that? I've never seen a movie in 4DX, but I'd think it would be annoying and you'd miss a lot of the movie.
@@fuzzypanda1684 It’s the one with the moving seats that blow wind and water, it freaked my Mom out. Lol
@@makeda6530Wtf? I've never even heard of that! It blows wind and water on you? That sounds like something you'd only find in Vegas or Hollywood lol. What's the one with the panoramic, wraparound screen then?
The reason why the movie is so good is cause it strips away all the bullshit to go back to the terrifying roots of Godzilla. This gives us the heart and soul of the original film. It breaks away from the goofy yet badass monster fights and the loveable/anti hero to give you the real Godzilla, a terrifying force of nature mankind created though its atrocities. This is our modern day reimagining of Godzilla 1954. Its a new class in legacy cinema that's its own modern day masterpiece. I can guarantee this is going to be taught in film schools later on down the road like Godzilla 1954.
I will always love the goofy scifi monster fights. They are my bread and butter when it comes to kaiju films, especially Godzilla and I will always want more of that. But that doesn't mean I can't appreciate a movie that takes the King of Kaiju's back to his roots, where he was an allegory for nuclear devastation, death and destruction. I love the original Godzilla movie and would recommend it to anyone, but this would be a great replacement for that if you can't get ahold of the original.
Couldn't agree more. Already wanted to see it after hearing this. im actually going to theaters for it and bringing friends, and I never hit theaters anymore.
@@zacharybartolo5111 I loved Pacific Rim (first one) for the monster fights.
And I'll always love Godzilla's mile long drop kick from Vs. Megalon.
But I'm glad this movie restored my faith in kaiju films being capable of having a human focus.
@@zacharybartolo5111 that’s exactly how I feel, i still love every film, hell I can even find the fun in zilla 98. But this is without a doubt our generations revamp of 1954 and reintroduces the world to what Godzilla really was and is. I said this to a family member and I’ll say it for the world. If Godzilla had never existed in the first place, this film would be the birth of the series in modern day.
They also took away the Human Superheroes from previous Godzillas which makes the show better.
I am absolutely astounded by the budgetary efficiency of this movie.
This $15 Million movie looked much better than so many of the $200+ Million blockbusters that have come out in the last 5 years
Because most of the $200+ Million are spend on hookers, drugs and debauchery... Thats Hollywood baby kkkkk
The creators of the $300 million dollar budgets think the special effects sells the movie and the creators of this movie believe the plot sells the movie. Looks like we all know which one wins.
Mostly that budget go to overrated western actor/actress pocket.
This movie... didn't seem to have any reshoots I think. Reshoots tank a movie's budget. All of the dialogue honestly seemed relevant. They did a good job.
Hollywood is just so inefficient
I never thought I'd cry during a Godzilla movie. I did, twice.

It is a perfect Godzilla movie. I love how scary and threatening he is in this because you want every last character to live. A very Japanese story but completely universal in its themes much like the great Kurosawa's movies. This movie deserves to be huge.
a rare movie where you want everyone to survive
As a Godzilla fan it's so good to see people seeing Godzilla for what he represents and stands for.
Yes!!!!! Finally
What a breath of fresh air to hear people enjoying a movie again. Can we normalise good movies?
Atomic breath *wink-wink*
We normalize it by seeing it multiple times and sending Hollywood a message.
Disney and Hollywood won't allow it.
Well said
What? And miss out on the next cookie-cutter superhero pile of shit?
Movie is easily a 10/10 ,the budget for this movie is insane . Want more movies like this.
Some directors know how to stretch a dollar for all it's worth. Some don't.
American movies are full of untalented , severely over priced activists.. that's why..it's a huge scam
@@Blisterdude123hollywood is good at wasting money and spending over a hundred million on a movie that looks worse than a $15 million movie
I think its mainly that hollywood has to pay its actors millions@@kevinc.cucumber3697
@@kevinc.cucumber3697 Yup. Hollywood budgets are inflated because of wasteful spending and grossly overpaid actors. You ever watch the behind the scenes of Batman V Superman? They spent an ungodly amount of money on the dummy of Zod's corpse. They could have just hired some actor and pasted Michael Shannon's face over it with CG, or deepfake, for MUCH cheaper.
I really really hope this isn’t Yamazakis only entry in the franchise, he very clearly has one of the deepest understandings of the universe that any director has had since the original. Annos take in Shin Godzilla was incredible but it’s different it’s a unique take on it. This is peak “typical” Godzilla.
I hope the sequel bait actually goes somewhere. Toho said they wanted to start another ongoing Godzilla universe, this should be the one.
He made a short Godzilla opening for his film Always Sunset 2, so he has some experience with Godzilla. But this is his first feature film, but I suspect not his last.
Shin Godzilla was great in displaying how terrifying Godzilla was and could be while Godzilla Minus One is a journey beginning to end. Both are great entry.
Godzilla didn’t die and at the end it shows him regenerating (part 2)
Saw it this morning with my wife who is Japanese. She loved it, my son and myself loved it. She cried at the end of the movie, so that tells you how emotional this movie is. Guarantee you now, this movie will get nominated for an Oscar and will probably win. The wife also said this movie is doing really good in Japan. best selling movie there. With out giving away a spoiler, at the end, did anyone else notice the mark on the girls neck???
I did. It left me wondering if it's radiation or it's something else. But I guess that's for another time.
Yes! It's a fragment of Godzilla, as was mentioned in the news sequence immediately following her 'death' that scientists where in the area to collect and study. It's also WHY she survived... just like, and thanks to, Godzilla.
You predicted it!
So there's two homages that were made with Noriko. One is that the Director confirmed she is infected with G-cells. They helped her survive and heal so quickly. The second is that she'll have some connection to Godzilla now, like the psychic character from past movies. If a sequel ever happens, that could be how Gozilla ends up helping humanity.
I took my date to this movie because I was going to see it by myself but she wanted to come knew nothing and I mean nothing of godzilla lol she was stressed and worried the whole movie. Literally she enjoyed this movie so much she wants to see the others and do some research because she wants to see what led up before this and how either good or bad the other films are. Hell after I dropped her off home she messaged telling me she's watching a ww2 documentary. Like this movie grabbed her. It's an amazing legendary film and if Toho makes another The director definitely needs to stay on

The only thing I hate about watching Japanese movies in theatre is that I have to hold my tears so hard.
Actually caring about the characters in a monster movie was mind blowing for me. Genuinely loved this movie. Legendary Picture's Godzilla movies are great for the monster v monster aspect but that's all, i find myself simply waiting for the next time the monsters are on screen and the human element feels like a chore to wait through. Minus One was different, I cared about Shikishima and his struggles. I loved the interactions between him, Doc, Kid and Captain. He didn't feel like a blank vehicle taking me to the next monster scene and it was gripping to watch him overcome his "monster" in both the figurative and literal sense.
Literally just got back from watching it! What an incredible journey to where Godzilla reclaims his roots. The acting was really good and the effects looked pretty damn amazing. My favorite Godzilla movie all time
if you understand japanese the acting was kinda way overboard but it was passionate

Noriko saying at the end "Is your war over" was phenomenal and I really hope we get a sequel set in current day.
Much needed after the movie was so emotionally rough.

@@Hexbox117 One theory I have is that you know how the camera pans to her neck at the end, and you see something moving? Like infected blood? And the fact she got g cells. ( SPOILER) regening on her. Perfect

Oppenheimer and Godzilla Minus One would make a great double feature since the Atomic Bomb was the reason Godzilla was created by the Japanese.
The Ginza attack scene is my favorite Godzilla attack scene in any Godzilla movie. So much emotion and buildup. Simply awesome!
This film is as good as the 1954 original. I didn’t expect this film to beat out Oppenheimer. While I still think Oppenheimer is Christopher Nolan’s masterpiece. This movie Godzilla Minus One is truly something special
Oppenheimer is a prequel to Godzilla: Minus One
Chris Nolans masterpiece was the dark night trilogy. Oppenheimer wasn't even that good of a movie. It was just being carried by great acting the entire 3.5 hours
@@ohler321underrated comment haha
Guess opinions differentiate alot. 😅
I'd say with confidence that Interstellar is Nolans masterpiece.
Oppenheimer is absolutely not his masterpiece lmao. It’s not even his top 3
A thing that really surprised me besides how great the human characters were, is the fact that we finally got a scientific plan to battle a monster that didn't seem like it was a total joke. With the technology they had available it made a ton of sense and should have worked if he wasn't a little smarter than they gave him credit for being.
Hats off to the director for coming up with such a logical and well-thought-out plan.

I strongly recommend watching Godzilla vs Destroyer. That movie has biblical music, and the ending will make you cry
@@freiflug83don't remind me of that 😢
The first Pacific Rim movie really made me want more monster movies that actually focus on the fights and the monsters, I really enjoyed Pacific Rim.
So I was a bit let down by the 2014 Godzilla, which didn't really have much for monster fights.
King of Monsters gave me a lot more of what I wanted, and while the people weren't exactly strong characters, I could kind of get behind their motivations, so I really enjoyed it, most of all the recent Godzillas.
Minus One is very much a movie about the people. I wasn't sure how I would feel about this. I can definitely think of some of the older Godzilla movies that were like this, so it's not like I didn't expect it could work, just that recent examples suggested it wouldn't.
Sometimes its great to be wrong.
This is a movie about survivors guilt, ptsd, failure of duty, and the human effort to push past tragedy.
It's a monster movie that doesn't forget that what makes monsters scarier than gore is how much we can relate to the humans facing it.
I am glad I watched it in IMAX.
This movie was a masterclass in what PTSD is like.
Actually relevant characters to a movie help out so much. One of the few times I cared about the entire named cast of a movie.
I watched it in 4dx and it was amazing.
Alex giving it a 10 made me buy tickets for me and my girl, we are watching it TONIGHT. I’m so hyped.
This is one of the best movies I have experienced. I am not a crier but I could not stop crying during this film . I have never been a Godzilla movie fan so this took me totally off guard. What jumps out is the truth to the original intention that I believe drives the story and is a true reflection of the post WW2 Japanese experience and reality.
I will be surprised if it is even considered for any awards because of its budget. Hollywood and the film industry in general is about big budgets drive the bus. Honoring the craft is secondary. This film honors the art of filmmaking and reminded me of why movie theaters are still relevant. Incredible.
As much as I love what the Monterverse is doing over here in the states and the crazy action sequences between Kaiju, Godzilla Minus One absolutely BLOWS those movies out of the water.
From Godzilla himself being a horrifying force of nature that we haven’t seen since I feel, Shin Godzilla, to the human characters that were so engaging and made me emotional that the Monsterverse is lacking in, Minus One is just…..Beauty cloaked in a horrific veil of smoke.
Monarch has so far been great
The monsterverse has bad human characters - like Millie Bobby brown ruins the whole thing
What really stuck with me is that I found myself going "If something happens to (person), I'm rioting." I genuinely got emotionally invested in these characters and it blows my mind.
Plus the heat ray was AMAZING to experience in theaters.
After that atomic blast scene, I was so upset (internally) that I felt that shouting on a 2/5 level. It left a stinging pain that had me rooting for the human characters.
I think one thing you guys missed was in the hospital Noriko had a black vain that was growing on her neck when Koichi was as crying on her lap. Maybe that’s the reason she survived, radiation poisoning or some sort of mutation.
It wasn’t very obvious. I saw it, but I couldn’t tell what it was at first. I thought it was her hair, but then I realized it was a vein.
There's no way she survived that blast naturally. That city block was essentially leveled beside the one building he was behind. Godzilla was also completely dead before his literal meat started regenerating. I think she came back to life from being exposed to the same radiation.
Around the 43:00 mark, the fact that Joe took the time to look up the name of the character says everything you need to know about this movie. He actually cared about the characters and everything else in this film to take the time to look up their names and history.
Love seeing Joe so genuinely happy about this and how passionate he is in this review.
One of the peak Godzilla films fr
That was the one main aspect that stuck out: they did humans right. The atomic breath was awesome, Godzillas look is the best he’s looked and overall the movie is worth watching on IMAX. Best movie this year
Saw the film today with my wife and my dad, all three of us loved it. We all grew up loving Godzilla movies and without a doubt this was the best film in the franchise.
The movie truly captures what Godzilla is; the son of the atomic bomb. Beautifully and eerily depicted on screen. Just the way how even Godzilla looks up at the mushroom cloud was almost like a child being admired by the parent. Also triple points for Godzilla 2014’s comic con teaser had Oppenheimer’s famous quote, while this year a movie about Oppenheimer comes out and the year finishes with Godzilla. As Lucas would say “it’s like poetry, it rhymes.” Haha.
Which is interesting how some Godzilla variations are born from the H bomb. Others the atomic bomb.
This movie is so damn good. Went to go see it with my older brother and his family. My 12 year old nephew gave it an 9.5 and me and my brother gave it a 10/10. I will try to go see it 2 more times because im a huge Godzilla fan and i also want to support the film. Specially since our screening only had like 30 people at the most. Hopefully this film does well and they can give us another one.
Seeing an early imdb rating of 8.4 I was quite skeptical, but being myself a huge fan of Japanese culture (mostly anime), I knew that this is the movie where I'd regret my whole life If I didn't go to the cinema… And well.
Hearing Godzilla roar on cinema speakers and seeing its havoc on the big screen was absolutely insane! The battleship fights felt like next-level destruction hype, straight out of anime-type stuff but realistic at the same time.
The 1940s setting made Godzilla look a lot more real overall since the things didn't look so futuristic, which compensated for the monster itself.
10/10, hands down!
Kinda funny reading the few reviews that brought down the rotten tomato score. It’s like all the themes that the movie was giving went completely over their heads lol. Absolutely loved this film. Thinking of watching it again on an IMAX screen.
"Godzilla minus one is more historically accurate than Ridley Scott's Napoleon"
I literally just got out of the movie like an hour ago and holy shit, I agree with all of it. Just amazing. I was going in with "Ok Godzilla let's do this" and came out just "GODZILLA WHAT THE FUUUUUUUUUHHHH...Wooooooo!!!" emotional, pumped, scared, just rollercoaster of everything and so satisfied. I haven't felt this way with a movie in such a long long time, that I really can't recall when a movie did that to me. Maybe when I was a kid or some shit. Just great...I give it a 9/10 cause it's Godzilla Minus One...haha...ok no...I'll se myself out, but yeah go watch the movie!
The whole using the sea pressure against Godzilla was a pretty creative way try to kill Godzilla given how limited options they had and how ineffective their weapons were. Also that healing factor is insane, Godzilla probably had it to some extent back before it got nuked. That scene where it was chasing the boat was terrifying. Fantastic movie.
it was a cleaver way to show regular people including a balloon company not relying on the gov. the movie is really anti gov(japan is having their own issues with their gov lately) and a very david vs goliath feel. those are always the best fights. completely unbalanced so u have to use brains
The Godzilla movies where the military can't make a giant monster to fight Godzilla can get fairly creative in their anti Godzilla strategies for sure! This one was definitely neat!
Probably the only godzilla were this strategy could damage it somehow
Godzilla Minus One cleared my disappointment with Godzilla 2014. I wanted "Death, the destroyer of worlds." The wrath of God, the monster Godzilla and THIS movie delivered.
This movie reminds me of District 9. Low budget yet had me invested from the very start. Absolutely loved it. No big names and no heavy CGI that takes up the whole screen. Made me feel like a kid watching that movie. Maybe its bc both films are/were not Hollywood films.
An epic human story about dealing with the horror of war disguised as a Godzilla movie. People who would enjoy this most are ones who dont care bout godzilla. Made my wife see it with me at 12:15pm. She (and I) legit cried. Great movie!
I was actually in tears/mouth slightly agape during the atomic breath scene. And it wasn't typical tears of joy like a fanboy, it was emotionally impactful during the entire scene. It hit different.
This is what you get when you focus solely on the writing on characters and true fan service for the franchise.
No woke crap, no diversity, just good writing, thank the gods.
I live in Tokyo and saw it when it premiered in November. The film has done strong and there are some theaters showing the subtitled version for those wanting it with English. This movie goes Godzilla right unlike those Legendary ones.
I just saw it today and it was absolutely amazing. Definitely the best film of the year. Those human characters were actually proper characters
I just got back from seeing it and all I can say is WOW! It was so good that I was completely blown away by it. Such a good story about overcoming survivor's guilt, finding something to fight for, and learning to forgive yourself. Very well done especially for a movie with only 15 million for a budget. Absolutely destroys pretty much every Hollywood film aside from Oppenheimer this year. 10/10 movie and everyone needs to see this film. I can't stress that enough!

It wasnt really an happy ending if you think about it.
After Godzillas Atomic Breath, Black Rain was falling. Radio active rain. The woman at the end in the Hospital had a Black Mark on her neck....
This means she and the others are radiated and will die in a few weeks or months 😐
The mark was moving though so it wasn't strictly radioactive marks but movie mumbojumbo hinting that she survived due to godzilla's regeneration, which was hinted at when they were collecting left over godzilla material after the ginza attack.

I loved the film. I think it was really interesting to hear something modern from japan critiquing their actions in ww2 as well.. From dishonoring your family, the nature of even giving up your life as a kamikaze pilot, and the japanese government at the time and push back. This film and the DnD movie are definitely my favorites for this year
Never in my life I would thought that I was gonna cry during a godzilla movie lol
Can't wait to see it in theater. The only thing that piss me off is that in France, the film will only be in theater for 2 days on specific cinemas. Which is a shame because it will not have the success it deserve 😭😭😭
Saw it with my wife on Wednesday. She is Japanese -we met over there and had two daughters before moving back to to US. She was in tears at the end. We’ve been talking about it since. Such a deep film.
She filled me in so much on the issue of the returning kamikaze pilots after the war and how they were shamed.
That movie was so good but even deeper than I think many of us realize.
Best movie of the year. Should win awards.
Knowing the fact that a 15$ million budget godzilla movie surpasses the quality of over 150$-200$ million budget western godzilla movie. What a fucking slap in the face on every angle
Joe you completely forgot about something towards the ending scene of the movie on how the main girl character lived. Did you notice something like a black shadow on her neck moving inside her body. I think she got infected by Godzilla's regeneration cells and that can explain how she survived that unsurvivable situation.
It's not unsurvivable at all. There are MANY real-life stories from Hiroshima and Nagasaki that are extremely similar.

I saw it tonight and loved it. Been a Godzilla fan since I was a little kid watching the old Showa era films on TNT and SciFi channels. This was a breath of fresh air because honestly the newer American films aren't doing it for me. Its been 10 years since I cared to go to an actual movie theatre...but for this I pushed myself.
The reason why this film cost only $15 million is because the production company, which until now has only made films with a budget size that could be paid for by domestic market sales alone, only offered a low budget, and the creators worked hard with low salaries. Japanese creators have never gone on strike. The reason why there were many naval battle scenes in this film is that there was an episode in which young staff members voluntarily created CG of the sea, and the director was so impressed that he increased the number of sea scenes. Thus, the Japanese film industry is supported by the volunteer activities of the staff and the low-paid environment.
As if they were volunteering to fight a monster
Best Godzilla movie ever. It took almost 70 years, but it was just that good.
I have this in my all time great list after sitting on it for a week. That scream in the black rain will stick with my family forever.
Yeah, that allegory is powerful.😭
Just got out of the movies, all I can say is wow! The characters, the story, the depth and of course Godzilla! All of it works so beautifully and on so many levels. I can’t recommend enough!!
Hey Joe ! The tanks that appeared in the movie are actually the Type 4 medium tank ''Chi-To''. The model they selected was a planned production variant which is most likely never reached mass-production in real life.
If you search for Chi-To, Google will show you the prototype version which is better known. The 3 small fake barrels actually contain recoil mechanism. Many people are confused it with the Type 3 Chi-Nu which is understandable because Chi-Nu is mass-produced tank so it is better know to most people and it looks similar to Chi-To, but yes the tank that appeared in the movie is historical accurate according to the real design at least.
An American production with this sccript would have cost 200 million after the inevitable reshoots. I'm beginning to think that Hollywood may be some kind of money laundering operation.
Went to opening night, the energy was great and I am glad yall feel the same. Best Godzilla movie in decades
Not even just the best Godzilla but damn good drama. I was 100% behind the humans and our main hero in the 3rd act to kill Godzilla
I'll be honest no movie has really made me want to go to a theater this year. Except for this. Based on your (and some other) review I will be going to a theater over this weekend to check this movie out. If it's as good as I think it is, I'll probably even take my dad to see it again when my family comes down for the holidays. I love these sort of lower budge, well done, underdog type movies/stories. Can't wait to buy my ticket now...gotta make sure I go to the one theater on my area that serves beer and proper food too...
When the kamikaze repair pilot put his arm on Skikishima and said Live that sent a shockwave of emotions in my body have not felt that affected from a movie in a WHILE.
I remember stories about how the bombing of Hiroshima was so powerful that it had actually began to screw with the atmosphere and black rain began to fall. It was a cool/haunting detail they added in with the first blast, essentially making Japan getting nukes a third time.
This movie was awesome. Even everyone watching was engaged. the entire theater was applauding after the movie that’s how good the film was. Once I saw how fluid the cg was in the beginning. I knew it was going to be awesome did not disappoint. 💯 out of 10
Ever since watching this movie last night I've been plowing through every article and review I can find. This movie restored my faith in franchise cinema. If you're on the fence, get out there and see it!
Same bro
Saw this two days ago, incredible. I loved how they handled the throwbacks in their own way and it has a touching human story. I was genuinely terrified seeing Godzilla, too. Probably the best in the franchise so far.
I am telling everyone I know -- GO SEE THIS MOVIE. NOW. This is only out until Dec. 7 and you are in for a cinematic MASTERPIECE. From the characters who we connect with, to the fear that comes at you through the whole movie, to the music and effects -- I sat there at the end of it saying "What did I just watch??? That was AMAZING." I cried in a GODZILLA movie. You don't need to like Godzilla, you just need to appreciate a damn good movie. 10 out of 10.
Couldn't agree more. Saw it last night and said to my GF "wow. I can not believe they nailed the human aspect of the movie." As a life long Godzilla fan I'm so happy we got a fantastic new movie.
This movie did not have to be as good it was.. but oh my gosh.. this movie completely blows you away with the characters and story.. absolute masterpiece of a movie.
Written, directed AND VFX. Was the dude's passion project and it shows.
Seriously, I was like dayuuuum.
This is what happens when you give an IP to someone who genuinely LOVES it and CARES.
Still can't believe this was made for $15 million while one episode of she-hulk cost $25
Overpaid actors
Overpaid EVERYBODY.@@Disaster_Tourist
@@Disaster_Touristnot just the actors the whole production crew milking the budget for there own not really caring about their goals in making movie magic
I just came back from my IMAX movie theater 😊 I am so very happy that I got to go and see movie. 10/10 for me. Godzilla was scary but loved it. I booked this movie a month in advance all I needed you to tell me that it was a Godzilla movie I was going to be to that movie theater. The soundtrack is amazing in the theater
This might be the only movie I go see in the theater this year... I've mostly given up on theatrical releases, but I want to encourage them to show foreign films with subtitles and NOT feel they can only show American movies, or bad English dubs.
This is an actual, really well developed film. It has great characters with a great story and I was sooooo invested in their plight it was a hard movie to not get emotional watching. It's a 9.5 on a ten scale. Easily the best movie this year, and the most terrifying Godzilla of all time.
Just watched it in Imax today, story left my wife in tears and me with chills. Absolute best movie and best Godzilla movie to date.
the movie was amazing 10/10 for me everything hit just right for me
Watched it today, a badass Godzilla AND all the feels?! What an amazingly refreshing movie.
Yall missed the part when they started the future sub plot of G-cells. On the woman's neck, when we found out that she survived you can see a strange discoloration growing up her neck. This could most likely explain how she survived by gaining some of Godzilla's regeneration ability. G-cells is the start to alot of other monsters from the Heisei era.
So the first watch, I had the issue with the main girl *Noriko* surviving in the end, like she should have died right? But watching it the second time, I noticed something was… off…..
1. Did anyone notice the black thing crawling up Noriko’s neck?
2. Did anyone notice why the baby *Akiko* did not look joyous to be reunited with her mother?
3. Did you notice why our main character *Kouichi* shifts Akiko away from Noriko instead of closer?
Here is probably why, and it’s terrifying:
1. I think Noriko survived and looked relatively unharmed because she is infected with something produced from Godzilla’s radiation. Something unknown as announced on the radio after Godzilla fucked up Ginza. Something that gives her super regenerative capabilities. Notice the bandage/ dressing around her head? What is under that? Something that shows the regeneration? Like what we saw with Godzilla’s scar? Noriko took fatal damage that day, like half her head being blown off, but she regenerated with a scar similar to Godzilla.
2. Akiko does not seem happy to see Noriko when they reunite. She was literally crying knowing just knowing that she can’t see her mom before but when they reunite, she just gives a wide eye stare 👁️👁️
Because to her, that thing sitting on the bed does not look fully like her mother. A child can be extremely sharp with these thing.
3. I think Kouichi is infected by the same thing after he was in the black rain. That’s why his wound under the bandaid/dressing, grapefruit sized bruise, and other bodily damages are fully healed by the end of the movie. This is further suspicious when you see the kid (forgot his name) that came in clutch with pulling Godzilla up has not yet recovered, with the cast still around his arm. Kouichi is healing way too fast for a regular human.
In conclusion… possible sequel? Gozilla based pathogen that can start infecting and killing people (like a certain pandemic we know)? What happens to Noriko and Kouichi’s child? Is it human?
ending is scary man, it’s disguised as a happy ending when it’s something much more sinister.
People actually survived the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, for awhile...
I've studied films for years and years; HOW IN THE WORLD DID THEY DO THIS? 15 million? THEY MADE THIS FOR 15 MILLION DOLLARS?????????????????????? Well ok, a little over 20.
I've seen 200 million dollar films that don't manage to accomplish half of what this film achieved for less than nothing. Academy, give this studio and these amazing people every award. NOW.
Saw it today and yes it is very amazing. Even if you are not a fan of Godzilla films on the regular the story with the humans is so good alone.
I'm happy that they ended up scaling Godzilla down in size compared to the previous films. It felt way more personal in that way. Godzilla was actually LOOKING at the characters.
Bro... This almost made my cry of happiness. 9/10 it was ALMOST perfect. Shin gojira is still 10/10 but this one is right behind it.
