I find it amazing that any level of society can exist where sadism and murder is so casual. No one is alert enough 24/7 to keep from getting a knife in their back at a completely random moment.
I also find it crazy that anything gets done. Even the Klingons have rules. However, I suppose the fact of sadism and terror cutting both ways keep most people in line and just attack the weaker. Mirror-Chekov in TOS waited until Kirk's position seemed weak to strike. Mirror-Spock was uninterested enough in command to ever move against Kirk and intimidated Mirror-Sulu. Mirror-Archer and Mirror-Sato only acted when they had the proverbial ace in the hole. Also, I suppose, at some point or other, certain sections of our societies looked like that. Could you imagine, in order to make up for the lack of Mirror-Universe episodes in The Next Generation, that the Star Trek showrunners gave us several Mirror-Universe episodes, or, even better, an entire Season-Story-Arc of Star Trek: Picard, where Picard, etc., find themselves in the evil Mirror-Universe, alongside an evil Mirror-Picard, an evil Mirror-Data, an evil Mirror-Seven of Nine, an evil Mirror-Riker, an evil Mirror-Guinan, and, most especially, an evil Mirror-Q...?! 😲 Because I can! I wonder if its only more interesting because the prime universe is less interesting. I wont deny that the mirror universe episodes are some of the best in Trek generally, but like fine wine its a thing that is worth much more due to its rarity. Discovery spending half the first season there on the other hand seemed pointlessly stretched out to me, given it wasnt nearly as interesting as most other Trek episodes. Personally I would love it if Discovery found a middle path, that shows prime universe humans being less than perfect, because right now they are twice as holy as Picard with 1% of the effort.
