I Own the same bike. Over 3000km already in a daily commute. Chose this bike for the less aggressive, but still robust build to hit our local coulee trails on the weekend. Great ride, drivetrain and full squish. Highly recommended. Glad to see EBR got a chance to check it out! Thanks to Dave for providing "our bike" :)
I own a 2020 Stance e2 and have be riding it just over year it's a pretty solid bike! and I do mean all year it handles the weather pretty darn good and Giant stands behind their stuff not that I havn't had problems.
I’ve had many problems. Motor cracking sounds, sent it back to the dealer, got a repaired one back - after 1 month. This happened 1 year after buying the bike. The brake at the back isn’t going straight and can’t even be set up properly, because of the poor quality of tektro brakes The front damper isn’t sensitive at all, and it makes weird dumping sounds
@@alcapone5990 This certainly has not been the case with mine. As far as front fork is concerned have you set it up correctly and kept it properly lubed. That being said it's not a high end front fork so it's not going to respond to that level, but it is a descent fork sounds like yours has an issue which may or not have to do with Maintenace. I have upgraded my brakes to some serious stopping power. Thou tektro brakes aren't poor quality but if you bent your rotor it doesn't matter what brand of brakes you have or other components in a crash or hit them. That being said I'm not going assume that is the case
Really enjoyed this casual review with Dave and his Giant. I have a Giant ROAM that I absolutely love, it's simple and whisper quiet to ride. Really thinking of taking the leap into the E-Bike realm and the Stance E+1 is at the top of my list, so this review (even if it's a bit old), was great. I do appreciate your reviewing presentation and how you stay focused on the BIKE, and not make it all about the reviewer. :-) Keep up the good work.
I oyt a dropper post put on it when I bought it. There is internal routing built in so it is a clean install. Speaking of auto mod, it works but unless I am on a steep climb over 15% its on level 1 or 2. To get back in auto mode, hold down the up button for three seconds and it will revert to auto. The app gives you realtime battery levels.

Hi Rab! I definitely appreciate Dave letting me ride his bike. I had called and visited Giant stores in the Vancouver area, begging them to let me borrow a bike to review and promising to pay for any damage or replace if necessary and keep it clean, but they had limited inventory and just weren't willing to screw around with me. One shop in White Rock gave me contact info for Giant marketing and I reached out right away, but nothing has come of it so far. I definitely want to cover the mainstream brands, but some companies do a better job of facilitating and I tend to cover their bikes more often as a result (Trek, Specialized, CUBE). I'm just glad to have this variety, because Giant is a great company and it's neat to see their solutions and how quiet their Yamaha motor is :D

I like that there are giant dealers everywhere. I have one here in Reno where I live. Yhats a big big selling point. All of the direct to consumer bike companies are shielded from issues by hundreds of miles and even international borders lol. I might buy a giant after watching this video? Specialized is huge here in the Reno Tahoe area but man they are expensive.

Nice bike. But placing the battery inside the underside of the down tube, and then also placing the charging connection point at the bottom portion of the underside, only increases chances that it will pick up water and road gunk while riding. And increases the chance for an accidental battery drop onto the ground. That engineering decision should be improved with future models.
Hi guys, to get back to auto mode on my Fathom E+3 , I press the level down button to get to level one. Then if I keep a long press on the down button, it flicks back to auto. 👍
The only thing which killed this for me was no dropper post. Got a Reign e+ 3 instead. It has better components overall and a bigger battery on the 2023. Model
I got Giant Fathom E+ EX (2021), which seems to me pretty much similar bike on technology wise. Main difference is that Fathom series hasn't got rear suspension. Also the EX model has kickstand, lights, fenders and bigger 625Wh battery, which is why I chose this model. But somehow I missed that it has Ridecontrol Dash controls, which has small display and also has USB-C output for charging or additional lights. Also I got to mention when you wondered if it was possible to get back to auto assist without power cycle and at least on Ridecontrol Dash you just hold assist down button for few seconds and it will go auto mode.

You own one. If you do peddle assist and not all motor how many km can you get. And if your battery dies how hard is it to peddle the rest of your ride.

Yeah, even Bosch has an automatic mode for some of their systems. It’s called eMTB and I suspect that it relies more heavily on pedal torque as it offers a wide range of 140% to 340% output.
A kickstand gets in the way. You are not going anywhere when you are charging. Even if you lay it down the angle of the plug is not a problem. With respect to the dongle, I tie-wrapped the holder to the charging cord. to retain it. I bought this bike to take the edge off climbs. When you are going on 69 that is useful, especially if you live on the side of a mountain where it truly is uphill both ways. It allows me to ride from my door and not have to worry about the 20% grade going to my house. As far as capability on technical trails is concerned, it is a very capable climber. I wouldn't try to break speed records on a downhill course, it works quite well. I have had this bike for just over two weeks and just bought the women's version for my wife. No comparison to a hardtail, which is essentially the same price. I am not terribly impressed by the ride control app; the app should be able to integrate a heart monitor but no way, From what I can tell this is the most economical full suspension bike and for my purposes will work very well. One other benefit is that living in the Fraser Valley, the Canadian Head office is in North Vancouver, so I don't have to worry about a problem resulting in a bike being shipped across the country for a warranty repair.
How does the motor perform if you reach the 25 kmh? Like bosch you can ride it like there is no motor.... so is it easy to pedal with giant after the 25 kmh barrier?

I have a 21 Specialized turbo vado sl , nice bike, same motor and battery as the creo, has a slacker head angle and higher bottom bracket . Im running 40c Nano's that work great on and off road , but it will fit 47's
That gap is a problem. A good 3D print engineer could easily design a filler lip to cover the gap, gluing it to the battery fins, filling the fins near the motor so water doesn't run down onto the motor connectors. Giant should have done that for you. Also, having to buy a Garmin for $370 to monitor battery level isn't good. The bike should have a battery gauge as standard.
Interesting thought on the 3D print! The Garmin was a multiple purpose purchase. Bonus was getting cadence, power, battery, and other stats out of the ANT+ connection. Thanks for watching!
you don't have to buy anything extra to monitor the battery level unless you want to measure it in smaller increments and then one would want to make sure it's accurate
i gues iwould glue a rubber flap to the Battery to solve that problem..but as far as i know there are 3 partys that sell those already...(1year after this review) greetings from germany

@@fendermon Well for me it's a better choice than my Fathom is/was. The Stance has a better, slightly more upright position. I find it way more comfortable for longer rides. And the rear suspension is awesome.
A suspension seat post is the true answer, If you are just doing everyday riding. Cheaper than going full sus and very affective! And don't have to keep a rear sus maintained. There are some great options out there and they don't cost a fortune like those ridiculously over priced brands lie FOX and Thudbuster, Just don't go for them shoddy looking dead cheap ones lol. XLC are the boss for value vs dampening quality. By all means invest in a full sus if that's no skin of your wallet you might as well aha
Cool video. How does the Giant do on steep grade streets? I live on one that's 30 to nearly 45 degrees in some places...does the pedal assist help push you up the hill easily?
Battery capacity is measured by manufacturers like certain physical characteristics measured by guys... don't believe everything you read. I would LOVE to see somebody do an actual charge/discharge measurement.
Court.. I have seen some mountain bikes with a smaller (27.5") back wheel and a larger (29") front wheel... They say it helps with riding trails.. What do you know about this..? My mechanic says it would throw off the geometry... But i like to sit more upright to take the strain off my shoulder/wrist. Your thoughts on these newer bikes with smaller back wheels..? rawB
I’m okay with then! But, it does make buying tubes and tires a bit more difficult. The larger front wheel provides a lower attack angle to smooth out the bumps. If you’re ascending steep hills, it could be difficult to keep the front from lifting. I’ve only reviewed a couple of these bikes, and they were fine… it’s not a big difference, maybe just a way to experiment or gain a slight edge for specific riding? What travel is the bike you’re looking at? Is is cross country, all mountain, or downhill?

This Giant ebike uses a Yamaha drive system, Bosch chargers do not have a dongle adapter. Both appear to use proprietary interfaces and more closed controllers, so your point is fairly valid. Open source is nice, like the Reention batteries, since they can be repacked or directly replaced.

@@davematthews7052 my motor failed on my first gen turbo levo at 700 miles at about a year old and the sensor also failed on the Back wheel and took like 3 months for them to get in from Taiwan. So it was in shop forever but they did repair under warranty however I was not impressed I have a giant explorer e bike that seems more robust but only has 500 miles on it. After that debacle I looked online and seems that is fairly consistent w the quality to expect from specialized. The battery Rosenberg mag connection looks to be prone to failure as well.

Perhaps you were hearing the Bosch motor, the Yamaha on the Giant Stance is one of the quietest mid-drives that I’ve tested, especially in this power range.

Boost 141 is a boost spacing for QR. If you swap the endcaps on a thruaxle boost hub to QR you will get a 141 hub

I think the "auto" mode is OK for super casual semi short trips. It works well but I found it to be redundant in fairly short order.

I've got a Stance E+0 Pro...it's a fine bike, but now I'm thinking of getting a Creo SL Expert Evo from Specialized.
I really like the SL drive system and am a fan of Specialized. Hope it works well for you.

I hear you brother. I love my Fathom E but I missed the dual suspension from my old Norco. The Stance kills it for a comfy ride.

A suspension seat post is the true answer, If you are just doing everyday riding. Cheaper than going full sus and very affective! And don't have to keep a rear sus maintained. There are some great options out there and they don't cost a fortune like those ridiculously over priced brands lie FOX and Thudbuster, Just don't go for them shoddy looking dead cheap ones lol. XLC are the boss for value vs dampening quality. By all means invest in a full sus if that's no skin of your wallet you might as well aha
Cool video. How does the Giant do on steep grade streets? I live on one that's 30 to nearly 45 degrees in some places...does the pedal assist help push you up the hill easily?
Never met a hill it couldn't conquer. Not yet.
Battery capacity is measured by manufacturers like certain physical characteristics measured by guys... don't believe everything you read. I would LOVE to see somebody do an actual charge/discharge measurement.

Court.. I have seen some mountain bikes with a smaller (27.5") back wheel and a larger (29") front wheel... They say it helps with riding trails.. What do you know about this..? My mechanic says it would throw off the geometry... But i like to sit more upright to take the strain off my shoulder/wrist. Your thoughts on these newer bikes with smaller back wheels..? rawB

I’m okay with then! But, it does make buying tubes and tires a bit more difficult. The larger front wheel provides a lower attack angle to smooth out the bumps. If you’re ascending steep hills, it could be difficult to keep the front from lifting. I’ve only reviewed a couple of these bikes, and they were fine… it’s not a big difference, maybe just a way to experiment or gain a slight edge for specific riding? What travel is the bike you’re looking at? Is is cross country, all mountain, or downhill?
The “mullet” bikes are usually made to bomb downhill trails.

Fancy dongle and chargers linked to the BMS so no aftermarket chargers can be used don't you just luv Bosch
This Giant ebike uses a Yamaha drive system, Bosch chargers do not have a dongle adapter. Both appear to use proprietary interfaces and more closed controllers, so your point is fairly valid. Open source is nice, like the Reention batteries, since they can be repacked or directly replaced.
@@ElectricBikeReview Interesting that the previous Giant battery connector (still used on some models) is XLR like a microphone. Not sure the reason for the change.

@@davematthews7052 my motor failed on my first gen turbo levo at 700 miles at about a year old and the sensor also failed on the
Back wheel and took like 3 months for them to get in from Taiwan. So it was in shop forever but they did repair under warranty however I was not impressed I have a giant explorer e bike that seems more robust but only has 500 miles on it. After that debacle I looked online and seems that is fairly consistent w the quality to expect from specialized. The battery Rosenberg mag connection looks to be prone to failure as well.
@@DrJoel-is3uy Sorry to hear of your Turbo Levo troubles mate. All manufacturers have problems (Giant included), but most of the big companies take care of their customers well.

Derailleur is misaligned.Since the rear wheel comes assembled I would have expected better.Assembly instructions poorly written, but that was not unexpected...just annoying.I just had the bike checked at a shop and was told that I should contact the seller about getting a whole rear wheel assembly with cartridge. (The bike shop could not do anything to help me).Not a good experience with this bike, so lesson learned.Added 3 stars for excellent customer serviceUpdate Sept 8 2020Just received a complete replacement wheel for free. Perhaps you were hearing the Bosch motor, the Yamaha on the Giant Stance is one of the quietest mid-drives that I’ve tested, especially in this power range.
What is bike weight ? Purchased the Lectric premium bike and it was so big and heavy rode it 4 blocks and sold it what a Damn Joke.
They really are shockingly over priced those bikes.
