I can't turn like she does -- I'm too old. :) But I try and think of her swing when I'm out there, she's SO smooth. There's nothing rushed in her swing. There's nothing sudden. It's just back and through, with a great smoothness. I'm telling you, she's unstoppable.
Homer would be proud of those flying wedges :) Doesn't matter HOW you get there but at and through impact the flying wedges must be intact. This is the one thing ALL great players do so well and bad players don't do.Grasp this concept and your game will go to another level. This REALLY IS the MAGIC MOVE in golf.
There are so many great things going on with this swing that it's mind boggling. I think this is A Swing but there are two obvious things that are fantastic (please note that I am in no way ripping on her as an "old guy" :-) The first obvious thing is her phenomenal tempo. That leads to her impact which is thing number two. Even though her hips have cleared notice how she does not "spin out" until the ball is long gone? Lydia has shifted her weight but he has not slid and spin.
That swing in 2013 is much better than what she does with Leadbetter . She goes behind the ball which is really good for a lady (not has strong physically ) and from there she releases the club with a lot of freedom ...
You are so right. That was a very athletic swing. More rotational, less linear. With her new swing at impact her whole weight is on the left side and from this position she cannot rotate as much. She has to flip - roll release. Check at 1.06 and you'll see how stable her hands were just after impact. You still see the crest of her glove. Compare with the newer swing , you 'll see the crest disappear much sooner. Leadbetter is not working for the athlete anymore , he's simply marketing his idealogy about the swing which is restricting great athletic swing. Simply look at Dustin Johnson who has work with Butch Harmon to make him fade the ball. The guy is still as long as before and number one in the world as we speak. For the untrained eye it is impossible to see the difference. Harmon made only the change needed to accomplished what was expecting. He didn't change his backswing or that shut club face at the top. He simply change the path of his swing while keeping his great ability to swing the club his own way. That's why Harmon is one of the best coach. He's got great eyes and a lot of respect for great players.
At 1:05 (near) impact, she is perfect, she is ideal, she is the dream. Right knee pointed left of ball, shoulders and hips about 45 degrees open, right arm bent, hands ahead of club head, head stable. She is pure. Why oh why go to Leadbetter? That isn't "getting better" or "better technique." I see Wei II, Howell IV and loads of patches and gimmicks with that decision - inconsistency, crooked, and a long ways from #1 is the future. An opened Pandora's box.
Looks as if she somewhat jumps backward just before impact then pushes forward posting on lead leg. Just seems like the extension is more rearward than upward, compared to other players.
I love how a bunch of old dudes who can't golf think they can rip her swing up. She is a better golfer than any of you bc shes out making millions. Where do you think that you can possibly critique when you know nada? lol The guys who do this are the same who interrupt random girls trying to practice on the range and "grace" them with their swing criticisms and swing theory. To all of y'all, Get a life and work on your own gd swing!
Sara, I've been playing this game for over 40 years. I've helped alot of girls on the range, and they've all thanked me alot for the help. So would you...so do run along!
Sara B, you are absolutely right girl. My 13 yr old daughter is one of the top juniors in the nation and over the years I have found that most of these older guys just cannot understand how these girls are so much better than they are. These girls are even better than most of these men were in their prime. It's just their egos Sara. My 13yr old daughter is better than I ever was, PERIOD. You just can't explain it. It's just a gift they were born with. Just like any prodigy in any thing from instruments to scholastics to sports. It's just a gift and there will always be ego's who hate them for it.
OK, well don't come to me for a lesson then. Either listen to the hard truth on what I tell you is wrong with your game, or be a cry baby and pretend it's ok.
Andy W Obviously (and luckily), Lydia is NOT one of the girls you helped (ON THE RANGE, ha ha ha !), otherwise she would not have become world no. 2 in the Rolex Ranking (on the LPGA tour and not on the range)
Wish she would have kept her NZ coach. No one is going to swing better. She would've got more distance just by growing up physically. If the Leadbetter Academy had more success at the top level, where Lydia was, I wouldn't be so pessimistic.
keeps head down too long and hangs back on right side. Needs to turn to left on follow through and allow head to rotate with spine. Hope she sees this post. It will help her.
Henry..LOL. Grampy probably doesn't break 90 yet wants to tell one of the best females on the planet how to swing. Gotta love all the keyboard swing experts on UA-cam!
technically excellent. I really don't see any flaws worth mentioning. How correct technically are the south Korean golfers? Clubhead speed about 75 mph though. Sorry to sound negative but this is the reason I only care about men's golf - there's just something lacking in the women's game, speed, trajectory, range of shots that require clubhead speed to pull off. I know Wie is different, but even she only really hits it like a decent male amateur. Go on, rip into me.
+stevepising 75? Her swing speed is in the mid 90s. Not sure where you got that guess from. Do you understand there is so much more to golf than a tee shot? I doubt you understand the true beauty of golf.
Oh believe me I do. I really do. I loathe the modern power game. Can't stand it. But part of being a complete golfer is a certain degree of raw power that produces height and character to shots. Sorry, but that's the truth and relatively few women golfers have that
Her problem is coming down into the ball too steeply. When she leans left like that, it's only going to make her steeper unless she dramatically tilts her spine away from the target on the downswing. It's very difficult to make that compensating move in the 250 milliseconds it takes the club to swing down. It is clear to see that Lydia has shoved her left arm across her body (a Push in RST terminology), and this has already moved the club deep behind her body, limited her shoulder turn and forced her right arm to bend - all unnecessary and extraneous movements. At the top of the swing, it's clear to see that she has her head well out in front of the ball and is hanging on her left side. Heck, I'm a 20 handicapper, and I can see the problems here...who's her swing coach?
Yet another promising young golfer whose career will be derailed by injuries unless that swing gets reworked. No one's back and left knee and take that kind of abuse for very long.
Look at Lydia's navel. It is behind the ball at impact with the driver, but ahead of the ball at impact with the short irons. That means her weight is more on her left foot with the irons at impact and more centered while trending toward the left foot with the driver. Anybody else see that?
Her swing will be the one of the greatest of all time. The swing is so pure and smooth and the tempo is perfect.
I can't turn like she does -- I'm too old. :) But I try and think of her swing when I'm out there, she's SO smooth. There's nothing rushed in her swing. There's nothing sudden. It's just back and through, with a great smoothness. I'm telling you, she's unstoppable.
Beautiful golf swing.

good loading of the rt shoulder
Man, I wish I could swing half that well!
That swing is impressive :)
Beautiful swing. Great connection.
A lot of similar moves to Rory's swing I see. Yes slightly narrow coming down (worked for Hogan) and that reverse hip turn after impact.
great swing. from kamal malaysia

PERFECT SHOTs~!!!!
Ben Hogan would be proud. Swing doesn't look overly stressful either. Wouldn't be surprised if she's #1 by August.
why changing that swing ? WHY ?
It's that endless quest for more power and accuracy. It's part of the human psyche. We are rarely ever satisfied.

Left arm vertical and straight at the top, very flexible

you are right. see my post above
I meant pre A Swing. Sorry.

Andy W Even the best players in the world listen to their coaches and apply their instruction. You seem to be your biggest fan. Goodluck with that.
Andy W Obviously (and luckily), Lydia is NOT one of the girls you helped (ON THE RANGE, ha ha ha !), otherwise she would not have become world no. 2 in the Rolex Ranking (on the LPGA tour and not on the range)
Ko's swing reminds me of Bobby Jones
She clearly did not apply A-Swing to her driver.
Wish she would have kept her NZ coach. No one is going to swing better. She would've got more distance just by growing up physically. If the Leadbetter Academy had more success at the top level, where Lydia was, I wouldn't be so pessimistic.

Yes, she credited you after winning on the LPGA Tour yesterday. She said, "I'd be nowhere without Grampy 13's amazing swing advice on UA-cam!"
Henry Robinson ROFL
Is there only one way of playing golf! Bet this 17 year old would kick your ass. Best wedge player on lpga.
Henry..LOL. Grampy probably doesn't break 90 yet wants to tell one of the best females on the planet how to swing. Gotta love all the keyboard swing experts on UA-cam!

stevepising Ko is a Kiwi. Wei hit 300 yard drives when she was 13.
Oh it way faster than 75. She could not play in the LPGA if it was just 75.

You talk like a 20handicapper,concentrate on your own swing and you might bring it down!
Rob Atkinson um....how do I say this politely? Shut up!
A Wilson, she's playing on the LPGA and you can't break 90 a your local muni. I think she knows what she's doing and you obviously don't.
***** you know nothing about anything do you?
What I do know is YOU don't know shit about the golf swing.
Yet another promising young golfer whose career will be derailed by injuries unless that swing gets reworked. No one's back and left knee and take that kind of abuse for very long.
And you probably can't break 90 at your local muni. All good golfers post up on their left legs you dummy.
*****
If I ever want my left knee shredded after a few years of swinging a golf, I'll be sure to look you up.
Yeah right. Keep giving great golf advice on You Tube! smh...
With a handle like stackleft, I'm sure you could help me become an awesome golfer! Don't sell yourself so short!
Too much hip slide going back.

I'm thinkin that's because the ball is more forward in her stance off the tee and more in the center with irons. Just as it should be.
