The best golf tip I ever received- and I have paid for lessons in the past. Hit 90% of fairways yesterday and gained 10 yards. I even gave this tip to a friend who has been slicing for years- we fixed it in 2 swings.
Excellent video. A method that would seem very complex to learn, your teaching approach just makes it click. My 7 year old grandson will even appreciate this one.
Absolutely brilliant Freddie, I was that golfer, right foot back but sternum straight at the ball, I knew it didn't feel right and results were mixed some good, some bad. I tried your method in the competition without even trying it at the range and BINGO soft baby draw all the way round and for the first time for a long time, I felt in control of my drives. Many thanks subscribed and liked!
For years, I have setup closed and not been able to produce a consistent draw. Always thought that was the only way to do it. I’d more often push/fade or pull hook to try to overcome it. Can’t wait to implement this and report back. Like your style. Thanks.
Freddie, the video you made with about accelerating earlier in the downswing really helped me control my drives! Imagine that feel combined with sternum set point will work together to create a repeatable draw shape? Thanks for really helpful videos!
Awesome... It's a different perspective than the norm but I see it work consistently :) and it makes sense mechanically ....might be a tad tricky to get out of old habits, see how it goes!
EXACTL !!! I lost my driver after covid, I was hitting 275-300, after I was lucky to go 200 or hook it left right !! I put it in the bag and used my 3 hybrid ,220 off the tee is easy and the best I got from that was 283 !!! I now set my driver stance like instructed here , I practiced the drill ,hitting zero balls. just put tees in the ground. Day 6 was Saturday and a tee time early AM .I teed up my ball set my stance and let the driver do the work. Now I didn't go the the range , I Only practice in my back yard just swinging, Seeing the "LOW"point etc, etc ... Anyway now i walk up on the first tee and hit, it carried over 285 yards !!!! Now many drives that day tend to go right so I had to adjust for that and even the few "miss hits" went over 200 !! Now I know why they pulled right I had my wide stance and right foot back but sternum was straight. I'm 64, I picked up the game at 57. I'm athletic 6'4" 215 lbs , So my irons are custom and extra long shaft, I can hit a 7 iron 200, But thank you for this video !! you saved my driver !!! I am crushing the ball ,Now I'm going to put those wild draws on and I have the perfect holes picked out that would work perfect !!! Maybe ill play today !!!

I'd say point the sternum at the back of the ball when you're playing a shot that is not tee'd up :) Back of the clubhead with the driver on that tall peg!
Interesting concept. Can't wait to get on the range and work on focusing on the sternum position. I tend to pull and draw my wedges thru hydrid, usually push fade with fairways and driver. I would bet, from watching this video, that my sternum is pointing ahead of the ball at impact. This concept should help me fix that miss to the left with irons, miss to the right with woods.
Whenever I can manage to hit a nice draw it feels so natural but I was never sure how I changed my stance or swing to achieve it. I bet this is the answer. Thanks.
Freddie ive tried everything to draw the ball to no avail. This is one thing ive not tried. Looks good. Sounds good. Looks like it could work. So gonna give it a go. Will be back to let you know the outcome. Cheers for that
This is very driver specific with the sternum pointing at the back of the clubhead ...Id say point the sternum at the back of the ball when you're playing a shot that is not tee'd up :)
Yes, same mechanism ...as the head gets smaller, the sternum won't be as far back ....With a ball tee'd up like a driver, you have more room behind the ball to get the low point and then rise to the ball ...With the ball on the floor, you can't go as far back, so the back of the iron head is good - Experiment with it a bit :)

@@FredzGolf Played 7 holes last night and gave it a go. I noticed that even though I was aiming my sternum a wee bit behind the ball I then had to ensure the face was not open so did a slight reset. I'm bad for that but I powdered the face and all the strikes were middle to top. Much better. Thanks, will definitely persevere with it.
I try something similar to this, and my face stays consistently open. When I try and swing “hard” I just spin out of it and the path goes outside to in. My normal path is about 3-4 degrees inside, and my club face tends to be about 3-5 degrees open at the same time. I currently cannot hit a real draw with driver (a ball that starts right of the target line and comes right to left across the line), but can with EVERY other club. The best I can do with Driver is 1-3 degrees inside club path with < 1 degree of open face, but they usually start a couple yards left. I can hit my 3+ Callaway Paradym 275-310, and before I broke my driver swing I was hitting 305-340. Now my very best ball with driver will hit 320, but 5/10 will be off the hole. I’m wondering if the shaft I have is no longer right for the swing or something. Should I just trash my driver and hit 3 wood? I’m going to try this, but do you have any other suggestions?
Interesting you can draw every club apart from the driver, I see this all the time ...largely comes from that extra bit of exertion throwing the sternum in to varying places swing to swing [from my own findings as a coach - this is different for each golfer but the fundamental awareness and control of the sternum is where I build speed from] Lots going on in the info there but I do like to solve puzzles - Yes if your irons have improved and you maintain the same swing with a Driver, often only 2/3 areas of the bag will work at any given time I have a Wedge swing, Iron swing and a Driver swing - They all have the same movements but from a different sternum placement - I'll do a video on this blend as a lot of people will benefit
@@FredzGolf The day after I watched this, I took my 5 iron out of the bag, and put my 3 Wood back in. I shot 75, without using driver, and with a double that had nothing to do with clubs, and everything to do with course condition (muddy, sloshy fairway). I even had a 3W-5W combo Eagle 🦅. If I could hit 50% fairways with Driver I could be pretty good. Another trippy thing is that the 3W is like 10-15 yards shy of driver, and doesn’t go as high as Driver, even though my driver loft is at an 8 degree and the 3W is at 12.5. I don’t know what to make of that. I should also mention that I use JumboMax size Large grips on all clubs. I know this has an auto-blocking tendency, and I’m wondering if my shaft-swing change combo just can’t get the head around with 112+ club speed.
@bashabill1712 That's a good topic ...the sternum placement can move that entire mechanism in a good way and a bad way... First time coming across your channel, consider me subscribed after watching this one twice in 2 days. Does this philosophy apply also to irons? I ask because my coach has my chest/shoulder square at impact and that has made a major impact with my ball flight. I now draw or hit dead straight with this change (well, due to several changes, of course). This is simple and love the message. 👍
Yes, I'd be more AT the ball with the sternum for irons :) when the ball is on the floor ...you have less room to have an early low point ...I almost think of draw and fade as left cover of the ball and right cover of the ball :) Could help tidy up the focus if the flight starts having a bad day!

I want to work on how to get more club head speed. I can get it up to 108 max! 1 in 100 swings. Normal speed is average 100 but I feel I am putting in far too much effort. I see you guys hit 280 drives and it looks absolutely effortless. How!!! Do you have a video on this? If so I have to find it. @@unclejohn37 Try This one :) It links well with the sternum idea...I just didn't have the sternum idea when I did this! ua-cam.com/video/tPMgl_p-E0M/v-deo.html
Most people who do this will create an in-out path but will then be left with a push or push slice because they are not squaring the club. That will of course lead them back to an out-in swing in an effort to square the clubface. Any tips on how to consistently square the clubface with an in-out swing? That appears to be the missing ingredient for most people.
@@FredzGolfCongratulations on the 38K views! Thanks for adding the link for the missing ingredient. I especially like that it is a non-technical solution of how to square the club face without thinking much about positions, forearms, and wrist. Thank you.
Fred After watching this video and taking it to the range, I just looked on Amazon for Fred Meikle Kool-Aid … they didn’t have any so I did the next best thing and subscribed to your channel.
It does! Just can't be as aggressive with how far away you do it ...The ball is on the floor with an iron and the back of the clubhead still works well! The clubhead is just smaller :)
I'd say feet square ...I was more relating to when the right foot back stops working as I find it doesn't work long term... Get that sternum in a more consistent place and have awareness of it ... then we have a long term benefit :)
I draw it so good, that whenever I set up for a draw, I hit a turbo hook. Highest ball speed plus shortest carry. It's a draw biased driver, and I think the thought of starting it too far right is in the back of my head, which probably means I crank the face shut too early. My other miss is a big push, LOL.
Aha! the opposite problem lol... Start with the sternum at the ball instead of behind it :) maybe let the face rest at address so you aren't manipulating it closed
@FredzGolf well I happened to be at the range today and remembered your tip. I was using a couple of woods and a hybrid. Point sternum behind ball and keep it there. OK I'll try. Mostly high draws into a strong cross wind. A couple of them had a little fade but by consciously keeping that sternum back, that was a good easy to remember tip. Thanks!
Nice... I like to watch the back of the ball disappear from my view, stops me getting past the ball too soon :) Helps the sternum and the head behaviour
Welp.. As the kids say today I must be built different. No matter what I do I slice those balls all day long. I was standing so far to the right my ass was facing the range... Still slicing. Tried a different club.. Still slicing. Going all my weight on the back leg.. Slicing. All my weight on the front.. Slicing. Hitting hard hitting soft.. You get the drill. Nothing works!
Ooh Interesting!! ..Missing link could be the release of the club ...Where the clubhead overtakes the hands and reaches the ball before the grip does ....Hit and imaginary ball 1ft before the actual ball as a drill and see how that goes

Do you have a video on this? If so I have to find it.
Gonna follow you for this winter and train on your advice on my golf sim.
Pick one guy and listen to what you suggest. :).
@@unclejohn37 Try This one :) It links well with the sternum idea...I just didn't have the sternum idea when I did this! ua-cam.com/video/tPMgl_p-E0M/v-deo.html
great stuff
Thanks a ton! Glad you liked it! Stick around for more awesome stuff coming soon!
Ill give it a try today
Let me know how it goes!
@FredzGolf down the middle and long. Club championship is coming up Tuesday. Confidence is high, thanks for the tip
@danarcotta1283 Love That!!! Enjoy!! 😁
38K Views and first one to bring this up :) very good spot though ...I'd add this ingredient: ua-cam.com/video/7T4E3m3JTes/v-deo.html
@@FredzGolfCongratulations on the 38K views! Thanks for adding the link for the missing ingredient. I especially like that it is a non-technical solution of how to square the club face without thinking much about positions, forearms, and wrist. Thank you.
@rw_golf6387 Thank You :) Yes, I like feels in the swing that encourage behaviour of flight rather than positions that get rigid and forced :)
Fred
After watching this video and taking it to the range, I just looked on Amazon for Fred Meikle Kool-Aid … they didn’t have any so I did the next best thing and subscribed to your channel.
Well... if I could make it, I'd sell it 🤣 thanks for the sub ...enjoy!!
Does this apply to iron shots!
It does! Just can't be as aggressive with how far away you do it ...The ball is on the floor with an iron and the back of the clubhead still works well! The clubhead is just smaller :)
Mix it with this, and you're winning ua-cam.com/video/7T4E3m3JTes/v-deo.html&lc=Ugx8dTGAbNpOupnWlgd4AaABAg.A9Ilo5QR8FIA9IquHtC8Nf
Very good
Thanks a ton! Glad you liked it! Keep coming back for more!
So do you keep your feet square and not drop right foot back thanks?
I'd say feet square ...I was more relating to when the right foot back stops working as I find it doesn't work long term... Get that sternum in a more consistent place and have awareness of it ... then we have a long term benefit :)
@@FredzGolf Thanks for replying.
Great vid❤
Thank You Indeed :)
Legend 💪
Trying to earn that status hehehe
Great lesson. Keep it simple!
Thank you for taking the time to say so, helps a lot 😁
Johnny Depp is a golf instructor now? Great advice man, gonna give that a go tomorrow.
Hahaha yeah he is :)
Hey can you recommend a training tool like you mentioned. Amazon plz:)
Here's one in action ... ua-cam.com/video/Nhjdau0bPjU/v-deo.html ...Looking for a "Swing Tempo Trainer" on amazon

New subscriber, hate my driver love my Golf 🤪🏌️♂️
Haha... Try the sternum placement and you might like it again ...I usually threaten my clubs with eBay and they start behaving again hah
@@FredzGolf I threaten mine with a hacksaw !
Beautiful shirt your wearing mate
Yeah I like them :) If I find a shirt that I like the way it fits... I tend to get as many colours as possible haha
Really like this explanation. Simple and... I'll let you know if it's effective for me😂
Don't forget to report back :)
Thanks!
@@rogb3199 Ah wikid, glad to have helped :)
WOW
WOW Good or WOW Bad? hehe
I've always tried the closed stance and never considered the sternum. This has been a revelation! thank you, Freddie! Can you help my weak iron play?
Yeah for sure!! Give it a bash
good concepts. Thanks Freddie Mercury! ; )
Hahaha ...Thank You!
Question #1 when did Johnny Depp get a haircut and pick up golf? #2 do I have to make that little sound as I hit it or after the strike😅
1. Ah man... thought my disguise as a golfer was working
2. Yes... You Do have to make that noise hehe... Makes it go further
If you want to hit a draw, keep your head behind the ball.
Nice... I like to watch the back of the ball disappear from my view, stops me getting past the ball too soon :) Helps the sternum and the head behaviour
Oh wow in 2 min you explained why trailing foot back never works for me.
Glad I could clear that up! Makes sense ay :)
Got to try this. I struggle w it. I put my right foot back because I get too over the top w a steep swing
Yeah give it a go... get the sternum to match what your doing with the feet :) it will naturally bring that over the top nature back towards neutral
Righ5r
Just seems to logical Im worried lol
Hahaha ..yes it does ..let me know how it goes!
Ball starts right, stays right...
