If they start to roll out more PVE content like these bosses this game could start to really take over if it’s done right. It appeals to casual players and that’s what MMO games need for longevity
Really? That is interesting. When I used to play it seemed like it was the opposite, you had to no life BDO to be competitive (or buy/melt costumes p2w).
I've said before that I think that if BDO had some kind of group PvE content, it would be have a shot to be the top MMO, or at least solidly in the conversation next to WoW and FF14. If you want group content, though, there's always only been PvP, sieges and such, and if you want to do that you need to seriously no-life BDO. I've followed BDO for a LOT longer than most people, since I played Continent of the 9th Seal, which was made by many of the same Devs as made BDO, and always wished they'd tried a little harder to make BDO group friendly in PvE. As it is there's very little real reason to group up in PvE except for Boss monster Zerg battles, which hardly even count as group content.
@@SouthernGuy5423 tbf almost all PVP large scale content is now capped and it really easy to get it if play right, you only need gear for red battlefield or open world pvp
if you finish season, done the pen accessory quest, magnus, jetina pen boss, and grinding to buy some crystal you already ready to join tier 1 and 2 node war (higher tier and siege guild usually take higher gear score player). Im Choice have really great guide for this, he start a fresh account in EU and reach 700gs in 2 months
That's true, but those design choices were pushed on them from a greedy publisher. They've also done a ton of non-monetization QoL updates that people have been asking for such as skill pre-sets, an overhaul to the gem system, fast travel, reduced cooldown on changing channels, class re-works, global silver storage, boss spawn notifications, node war overhauls, gear sync'd content like the ranked arena and gear sync'd node wars, etc etc. It took a lot of time to undo the damage that their greedy publisher had put on them (designing problems to sell the solution) but since then they've also been working harder on QoL changes and community feedback a lot. There are a few other reasons I don't play BDO (mostly because I'd get addicted again, lol); but every time I've logged on to check things out this year I've seen a GM just hanging out and chatting with people or hosting some kind of community event in world chat. There's something really magical about seeing a GM just chilling in world chat, giving out buffs, chatting with the community, or doing fun screenshot events. PA has a really great community and GM team. My only big issue with BDO currently is the desync in PVP.
@@Sword.Strike oh wow, that is something... I'm glad they self published in the end, and eventually opened up a prt server (although I know that was kinda forced on them and it was the jpn server that started it). Like the game is slowly slowly moving in the right direction.
BDO is a solid action combat MMORPG. The game has improved massively over the years. All its missing is more group content in the open world, it's too limited at the moment.
If BDO would come out this year with these graphics, all these systems and content, bruh, it would have millions of players competing for the best MMORPG spot. Many wont give it another chance tho. Its insane how much the game changed. I came back to it after 3 years and Im shocked how good it has become. I will defo play it for a while again, and that in itself is a statement, especially from someone who left years ago saying the game is absolute trash. In its current state, its easily on par with Final Fantasy and WoW. Insane progress, hat down Pearl Abyss.
@@Kenzirs dungeons and raids are interactive and engaging. Most top MMOs have somewhat or fairly engaging PvE content. BDO has flashy character abilities, that’s it for PvE.
@@Babayugah except BDO also has dungeons and group grind spots that could be considered interactive and engaging by your logic. That's ignoring other PvE content such as easily the best life skill systems on the market as well as arguably the best open world for exploration. Besides all that, I'd say the most important thing is developers that actually listen.
@@Kenzirs That's not using my logic at all. I'm saying the contents of those dungeons and raids are interactive and engaging. The simple fact they exist isn't what makes them engaging. BDO's mechanic-less PvE fights are literal keyboard mashing with no concern of an interactive fight with mechanics. World bosses are a joke. The dungeon is also a joke. Group grind spots are the LITERAL same thing as solo grind spots. Go in circles as fast as possible. If you're going to try and use "my logic" against me, at least have some intelligence to grasp the context in which I'm referring to. Life skills are pretty decent although they incentivize p2w mechanics to make it more worthwhile lol. Arguably the best for world exploration? Like auto pathing or using sprint/drift on a 10bil horse? lol I mean, it's okay, Aion was 1000x better than BDO for world exploration. You need to play some more games if you think BDO is the best. The landscape and geographical features are arguably pretty bad. They're OKAY at best lol.
7:23 about the outfit, as you can see the tab "Loyalties" in here, you can basically buy the basic outfit with the login currency they gave for daily login. ALSO, you can buy weight, pet, character slot, inventory, storage space, and the most important Value Pack (which is like premium status kinda like subscription) etc
Honestly BDO really is in the best state it's ever been, and I say that as someone who's been playing it hardcore since launch. I've been really happy with how things are going.
I have been having an absolute blast in BDO, since about a month ago. I was jumping back in after about 4-5 years. Some things I really enjoy that they've changed/added: -Level difference past 60 is essentially irrelevant. It used to be that you'd just "miss" your attacks if your friend or dueling partner was even a single level higher, that is NOT a thing anymore. Level doesn't mean much at all, now. -The story is now much shorter, if you choose to start with LoML or MoEW -You get 5 free pets to auto-loot by just completing your story and quests -Crystals are now socketed in a global account storage, instead of in gear, allowing you to use them across other characters -Season servers are gear capped and you can go from level on a new account, to level 61 with 245 AP and 310 DP, in a week; you can also stay on this server and grind--knowing that there is a gear cap and no one else will be above you (yes, for those of you who are "in the know", you will need a good Crystal setup, journals, and buffs for it to be fully equalized; all things that are achievable by a new player). -Season servers also give you a free IV boss gear -You get a free PEN (V) boss gear from the Magnus questline -Speaking of Magnus, you can use it to teleport from city to city; essentially going to the other side of the map in mere minutes; along with having remote storage access, from any town -You get a free costume from quests--no need to buy one from the MTX store -Events and attendance rewards now give an insane amount of rewards--including anything you'd need, other than the one item I mention at the end of this post. -With the new LoML expansion comes weekly bosses that are GEAR EQUALIZED (it's 90% the buffs from the quest itself, e.g. the spirit orbs, and 10% your own character's gear). They are fun and the mechanics are interesting/challenging. -PvP now has an equalized 3v3 PvP queue, with ranking and elo, like League of Legends. You can even queue with your friends. -There's now a Family Inventory for storing items like Beer to keep your workers happy. You can now also check the "auto-consume" toggle, to automatically use Beer to keep them fed. -Garmoth.com has evolved and makes learning BDO even easier. -Many more things that escape me, but I probably use every day that I log in. Idk. It's been fantastic to play BDO again. The ONE item you'll need to buy to play BDO: Naphart Campsite -- It will allow you to remotely repair your gear, buy potions, and grab Villa buffs, all from your campsite, that you can deploy anywhere. Think of this as the "Box Cost" for the game. If you buy the $40 Conqueror's Bundle, you can not only grab this item, you also get a shitload of other items from that bundle. It is how I recommend starting the game.
Naphart Campsite kind of sounds like ESO+ of Elder Scrolls Online. Yea you can play the game without it, but the unlimited crafting bag is just soo good, worth the $15 alone lol.
BDO is in a really good spot right now, but sadly there's a lot of players who played the game years ago and left with a bad impression. PA (the devs) have done a tremendous amount of quality of life changes in the past 3 or so year, especially since they split from Kakao. Some things not mentioned: - Ghillie Suit. The outfit that hides names now has "Unknown Adventurer" over the player instead of absolutely nothing. Can also use a flare to see their name. - Weight. Between the weight changes on items, stackable items, loyalty weight from the loyalty store, you can also spend excess skill points on more free weight. - Lootscrolls. There are many free ways to get them in the game now. For example, they recently updated Pit of Undying, a PvE mode, and you can get a couple free lootscrolls a day from there alone. Lootscrolls used to be a use once and waste forever, but now you use them to fill up an item called an "Item collection Gauge" and you can pause and unpause it when you need, so no wasted time. There's also a function in game called "Agris Fever" that recharges every 24hrs, and it increases your silver per hour, is completely free. - Guild Content. Besides Nodewars, PA also gave a big buff to Guild Bosses. They basically loot pinatas mechanics wise still, but the content is profitable enough that guilds actually run them now. - Attoraxian Dungeons and the new solo Bosses from recent update: Yes, they have actual mechanics. They can be fun. - PvP in the open world. Everyone used to be crowded into a handful of grind spots and that meant super geared players were gear checking lower geared players out of them. PA buffed most grind spots from Valencia to Kamasylvia and added new variations on older grind spots. They also added a phased grind instance, where for 1hr and 5minutes each day every player can grind at the most popular spots unbothered. The Magnus also unlocks a form of teleportation. This means grind spots all over the game world became more accessible so can find people pretty spread out these days. - Nodewars: There are now gear capped nodewars with either tier of nodewar having a progressively higher gear cap. T1 nodewars you can participate in with a set of pen tuvala gear after a couple weeks of playing. There are ways to min/max around the caps for more damage, but its a much earlier starting point for those wanting to dip their toes in PvP. - Story content. BDO's story content is lame compared to other MMOs, but the devs have made a real push to improve it. There are now cutscenes and lots and lots of voice acted dialogue. - The Gear Treadmill: The biggest gear hump in BDO is getting Pen Boss gear. There is a way to get Pen Boss gear without enhancing (quests through an NPC called Jetina, you just need to gather materials), and with grindspots buffed, can also just grind and buy your gear with silver. To get a set of free Tet boss gear to use with these quests, just make a Season character and get a set of Pen Tuvala (easy to enhance) and exchange for Tet Boss gear. - Outfits on the Central Market: Outfits are listed at max for around 840ishmill silver. The average player is grinding around 350mill/hr to 1bill+/hr depending on their gear, experience with their class, and grindspot. This means you only need 1 or 3 hours of grinding to afford to place a pre-order on an outfit in the market place. On the NA server, if you place a pre-order on an outfit on sale, it usually gets filled pretty fast. There are a lot of other changes that have been made that would make this comment too long to list, but its really a shame. PA has done so much to improve the game, but its hard to shake a bad first impression for most players. It's still a grindy game, and its definitely not for everyone though.
I love BDO. It’s the best game out there to me. I don’t have to depend on anyone else. I put in the work, and my character gets better. You feel each of your upgrades, better than any game I’ve played since EQ. I’ll play this game until I stop gaming.
Just picked it up on Xbox today after seeing it on the New Games tab with the giant update. Seems I'm gonna have alot of fun i love MMOs, flashy combat, grinding. Thanks for saying so much positives man
BDO does frequent seasons where you can make a "season character". Comes with a lot of rewards and acts as a guide to help you get to the soft cap and then you can go from there and explore what you'd like to do.
"They paid me to talk about their game but I'm being COMPLETELY HONEST when I say the game is so good now, Not pay to win anymore"...- Cashes fat check
BDO is a great game to get into every season to get that sweet sweet gear and inventory space, pets, maids and so much more, the seasons are where the amazing stuff happens 👌 Camp sites there is quests for camp sites when you reach level 51 i think, so you dont even have to buy a camp.
I've been playing BDO since it was introduced in KR. I've been there from the beginning and have seen ALL the progression. Sometimes I reminisce the "old days," but I understand why they changed to make it easier. This game still appeals to me, and I play it (almost) daily. All I can say is that BDO is a good, solid game.
it's cool to see them still doing meaningful updates. i didn't know they separated from kakao, that's hopefully for the better. we'll see, I might jump back in to check it out. thanks for the info.
Thanks for the PSA - I truly believe the QoL updates we've seen in BDO over the past few years are tons more interesting (and important to the overall gameplay experience) than anything LoML offers.
Honestly I’ve been tempted to go back and play. Grinding in circles on my Striker is way more fun than doing Diablo 4 Nightmare Dungeons. Edit: And I’m a Diablo fanatic!
honestly bdo circle-grinding has spoiled me as my preferred "mindless grind" game by miles and miles. I wanted to like D4 more but playing it just had me wanting to play my DK in BDO instead
i main a striker as well and have done so ever since it came out. alot of people like to just PvE grind. others like to do life skilling or life activates like whale hunting or what not. for casually playing its a top tier MMO right now
For anyone that likes immersive MMO worlds, but not so much the typical MMO requirement of the endgame forcing you to join a group of people you don’t know, THIS has been the best thing I’ve found. I still play other MMOs for their strengths. But if you like fighting games and fast paced shooters, I haven’t seen a MMO with PVE combat better than BDO.
I started playing in the summer of last year i have 1k hours and 640 gs, I haven't spent a dime on this game, I even got the base game for free, and I have never felt the any need to spend money, value packs can be bought with loyalties and it's really just a convenience. Enhancing gear isn't an issue since there is guaranteed gear, the combat and the button combinations make grinding way more interesting and engaging, there are party zones and dungeons that you can complete solo or with a party, plus the new boss blitz mode, hopefully they bring out more pve content. imo bdo is the best that the modern mmo genre has to offer as it's the only mmo that comes close to looking like a single player, ( speaking as someone who's genz, i think good combat and good graphics is essential to gameplay), and as long as they keep adding content especially pve the game will continue to thrive. sure it is a bit grindy( which mmo isn't?, at least there's incredible combat), and boring or stale sometimes ( which game doesn't? ), And it can be a bit overwhelming or complicated at the start, it becomes way easier when you get used to it. While it def isn't for everyone, bdo is a great way to light some hours on fire and have hella fun doing so.
"I started playing in the summer of last year i have 1k hours and 640 gs, I haven't spent a dime on this game" That's just badform, my man. That's a lot of time spent in the game to not have given anything in return to the devs.
Awesome video! As a passionate fan of the game it sometimes feels unfair to see people still talk about bad parts of the game that have long been fixed. Like others have said the game is truly the best version it has ever been right now
I've sunk thousands of hours into the game back in the day. The publishers shennanigans were too much at some point, so I left. Hopped on every once in a while, didn't even realize the publishing changed hands until like last year, didn't pay attention. Changes look good, but the game changed so much it's daunting. I've played a bit more recently, just making a couple season chars, and doing some life skills, was one of the top cooks on my server back in the day. Hope the game keeps going strong, I like being able to fall back on it.
I no lifed this game for 3 years since beta/launch, computer was on 24/7. Even had a morning ritual before work selling all my processed stuff or fish and setting everything back up. Had almost full PEN gear cept for my ogre rings. Probably spent about 3000-5000€ on this game. In short i did nothing else then play this game in my free time. I had tons of fun in node wars and PVP but one day I just realised that there's more to life and quit. Never turned back. Game looks great, it's still tempting but this is just a second job if you want to compete at any higher level. Honestly don't understand how u can play this casual. Enjoyed watching this vid, brough back some memories. But no matter how great this game is now I rather play multiple games. It still has the greatest combat system to date, I still haven't found a game with such smooth action combat. For people who haven't tried this game yet and enjoy action combat. This is the game to try. I'd suggest trying a seasonal server then.
You are right, but also there are so many more improvements! I literally had given up on the game for an year or so, i was never active beyound more than 3-4 weeks per year before. But right now... you literally get free op gears after reaching 56 lvl (Narchillan) which are as good as boss TRI. You get free pets, t8 horse, a ton of coins as passive income, they lowered the weight on the items, lowered the space they take in warehouse, which is the central marketplace safe you can access from anywhere with maids, you can take out items from your alts without even relogging with maids, all of the gears can become guaranteed PEN, so no more stupid enchancing rpg. With these gears, pets and mount you can go and grind at most of the spots in the game. You just need few buffs from the foods/stones/house furniture which also omg they added cash shop items only to be crafted inside the game, you can get a stone, crystals and so on and you're good to go. You will get funds from the passive daily income, from the tons of rare items you get for simply logging in. Before storage managment was indeed an issue, but with the warehouse in central market and the fact the weight of most items is lowered - you can really put most of the items inside and live a happy life without worrying about where to put all of your stuff. Most event items are tradable even after the event is over so this is also another good thing to get rid of extra junk. You also have a family storage - which means you can put some things in there like the infinate pots and foods and feed and scrolls and all of the toons can access it. It's really nice. Right now, there really is no real need to struggle - you can just do what you like. The game devs really went after the quality of life improvements. I still cannot believe it's the same game, when it's so so so so so much more convinient and easy to navigate right now.
BDO used to be a game I told others to avoid now I hope highly recommend it to anyone with all the updates it's gone through specially new player focused ones. Of course it still has room for improvement but it's only getting better with the years unlike other games
I would consider playing again if they made massive changes to the gear system. its completely counter intuitive and indecipherable at least last I played.
What I love about BDO is that of all the MMOs I've played it's the easiest for me to take breaks from. As a casual player who gets side tracked by single player games, It is super easy to jump back in and I love that. I also don't mind spending money when I want some convenience - games cost money - they aren't a non cost endeavor.
As a casual player, I absolutely love BDO: lots of things to do, lifeskills to grind and, above all, a fantastic combat system! But also, as a casual player, I find myself taking long breaks now and then: the gear progression is abysmal (too much gambling involved and not so easy to buy stuff from MP), not much guild content beside node wars, and ofc after a while the grinding takes its toll. Still fun to come back once in a while, lots of QoL in the latest updates and new classes to play!
To be honest this is accurate, Rather to grind gears for upgrade mats, instead i grind silvers(Watch some rotation online) to buy those gears since grinding was really hellish and gonna take you month or "year." Thats why i wish Someone will Rival BDO(maybe they will adjust aspect of the game due to rival they have.)
@@Jax-Pane bro shut up lol. buying a piece of bis gear is only possible with a ton of money and the easiest way to get a ton of money is to farm high tier spots in which the only way to farm high tier spots is get power. if you wanted decent tangible progression then you had to failstack and try your luck. No one is forcing you to progress but then why do people play the game? Its idiodic to say dont progress just because he doesnt like the system. dont expect people to not interact with a vital system in the game. Seasons have added an easy way to get good gear now but for the casual player, making a new character just for a season might be too big of a hurdle. dont spray your virtue signaling everywhere
BDO for sure had many great improvements made that made me personally stick with the game for years now and unlike other MMO's for some reason with BDO i don't feel fatigue from playing it, probably because there is always something to do and it doesn't get boring because combat is very fun. Plus the world is gorgeous and massive which helps a ton IMO. That said, there are still some aspects of the game that are problematic to be sure like the upgrade system which is way too punishing when you fail (and you will fail most of the time) but from my experience even if you just play the game and don't pay anything over time you will get what you are working on. Sure its not for everyone to get progress slowly over time and thats why many resort to the cash shop for boosts and whatnot but even without that the game is perfectly playable, unless you are into high ranked PVP i guess, then you pretty much have to spend but for me as a pure PvE player that doesn't matter. Then again, i don't mind the grind because i know for certain that i will get what im after eventually
The best game out there. Nothing compares to BDO combat system and the lifeskill is fantastic. If you don't like the grind, skip but for everything else, it's smooth, fun, beautiful and classes have a lot to offer if you like combos, buffs, debuffs...
I'm playing D4 now, and I thought this can replace BDO for me. But I think after a while, I'll come back to BDO. It just has that infinite progression & MMO feel that I really need.
BDO still rocks! They are constantly trying to change the game to keep it interesting. They've made it sooooo much easier and more new user friendly. The one thing I didn't like about the changes is that we HAVE to do the Magnus Questline, which is like a new paid for fast travel system. I understand why they did it because a lot of people can't sail using the ocean, but it seems like it's the first time they've made something a pre-req. for a main questline for a new area. LoML is beautiful and the stories there are really great! The place is from real locations in Korea and has Korean folklore. It's pretty cool! Thanks as always for the video!
when i first came back to bdo it was so insane (in a good way) that I could just carry all my silver on me and not having to worry about my weightlimit
I’ve played off and on for the past few years and they’ve changed so much for the better over time. When I first played it wasn’t nearly as bad as the rep it got when it was first released in the west so I was kind of confused but love the game and they’re doing good stuff
BDO is not a sprint, but a leisurely Marathon. (casually waiting for all the "R spammers to bitch and whine) The QoL improvements, the free pets and inv for new players could see them with a menagerie of T3 pets, possibly even a T4 or T5, if the odds fall their way. They have also refreshed the Balenos main quest line. Why go to Olvia now? Any new player SHOULD do Balenos through to at least part 1 of Valencia at least once and then the other areas. Have seasonal characters do the last two updates. By the way, there are 'hidden' benefits you get by doing quests, not taking the free horse you get straight away but running everywhere til .... check out "P". Good Vid and summary. Oh and there are outfits you get at the end of the regions that may not be Pearl Shop quality, but have their own hidden benefits.
Biggest problem with BDO is the 3 seperate Paid subscription models they have: Kamasilve Blessing (increase drop rate), Value pack (increase inventory and weight) and Old moon book (lifeskill buffs) they need to stop this now and just combine it all into 1 subscription, honestly its embarrassing seeing new friends ask about those 3, it just comes across so greedy.
It has come a long way and getting better and better, as a vriety player i have a hard time finding any other MMOs offering what bdo offers, you have a lot of ways to play it and your end game is simply your end game and possibly different from other players.
Thanks to *Throne & Liberty* I came back to play BDO again. This is one of the games that I came back to from time to time. (I just quit years ago cuz I don't had much time to grind). For me BDO is one of the most satisfying combat system in MMO genre.
If anyone quit before they added all those quality of life improvements in 2022, you should really come back to check it out. I was shocked how productive the dev team has been the last couple years.
The BDO Keystrikes are absolutely the best in the entire genre. It's fluid, it feels like playing Piano (in a good way - I can't play the piano at all and struggle with big toolbars)
oh wow I had no idea they split with Kakao. I only ever played very casually, but always thought it was very fun and immersive. Maybe I'll hop into the new area with a fresh character. Marketing dollars well spent!
Around 400-500 hours accumulated these past 9 months I've played the game. This shit is so fun. I play only for pvp and since I was gearlet (still am relatively) and the pvp has been so friggin addicting, it rly is a problem.. I just bought the tent and weight for really cheap cause of new player discount stacked w/ 30% discount givin from the game. I have almost completely maxed out pets all given free by game. Maxed out inventory, free from game. Was given like 20+ total outfits, premium and classic.
Based and well informed video mentioning all the positive QOL changes they added over the years, instead of shitting on the game like most people just cause the game had/have a bad reputation in the past. i think they are genuinely trying to make the game as enjoyable and fun for everyone regardless if you are a casual or hardcore endgame player etc, also with seasonal servers introduced it makes it easier for all new players to get into the game and get a little boost in gear etc
Any players that have stuck with the game can say how's the status on the PvP? The game has a very heavy focus on it, since grinding spots are valuable, having to fight other players is inevitable. Is the game still boiling down to dodging for 5 minutes until one player makes a mistake and gets a stun off to instantly end the fight? Because that's how it used to be and the gear discrepancy that caused players that had all day every day to grind have a huge advantage really put me off since it was so unfair. I didn't like the fact that there was one guy that could 1 vs 10 because he had nothing else to do besides grinding all the time.
They've added quality of life changes to mitigate crowded grind spots. There are now Marni Realm private grind instances (phased instances like housing) where a player can grind unbothered at the most popular spots for 1hr and 5minutes each day, and they also massively buffed all the grind spots from Valencia to Kamasylvia and added new variations on older grind spots. Magnus travel also allows players to spread out far across the map. This means everyone can get a casual grind in every day if they want to and won't be constantly gear checked by veteran players. PvP wise, its still about that cc -> kill, but for large scale nodewars there are actually gear capped forms, so fresh players with a set of Pen Tuvala from Season and a couple weeks into the game can start participating. There was also an equalized 3v3 pvp mode called Arena of Solare you could queue for, but its been out of season for 4ish months, I'm guessing because devs have been focused on the launch of the new region. Idk when/if the mode will be back though.
Still the best combat in any game I've played, especially on launch, the group PvP was fun and there was barely any 1 shots, I used to duel a ton in the city arenas which was hella fun and still one of the best times I've ever had in a pvp enviroment.
I literally just had to read the description to skip the video xD ''Thank you to Pearl Abyss for sponsoring today's video'' byeeeee see you at the next (hopefully unbias video!)
Also with the remastered updates, they overhauled the ui and menus plus added some new graphics settings for high end pc to turn up for better visuals.
2016 is a bit too late considering BETA was in 2014. I was a closed BETA tester in 2014 then went into open BETA in December 2015. 🤗 I won't ever forget the date because it's also the year and month I got divorced and my escape into BDO helped me through that rough patch.
I hope we will get more games like BDO in the future. Especially with unreal engine 5 realese and everything. Although if one was to consider monetization system, SWTOR would be best so far. At least, later stage of it. And story&alike too
I've never tried a more incomprehensible or unapproachable MMO than BDO. Every time I try it, it's like "look at this game with all this stuff you can do but we'll make it an absolute headache to actually figure out how to do any of it..." I keep at it.. keep trying to find information in-game... 'til I realize I've spent 30-60 minutes running around, no more informed of anything I'm curious about than I was when I started. Then I say "nevermind", log out and uninstall. I'm sure there's a fun game in there, but wow it seems like Pearl Abyss goes out of their way to make it difficult to get into.
@@FireHill20 In the context of my feelings toward BDO? ESO offers a lot of content - easily hundreds of hours of story/quest content alone, nevermind all the side content, etc. It'll keep you occupied for a long time. If you wanna try something that's a bit more obscure, but has excellent story, great writing and voice acting, very creative missions/quests - especially if you like following clues and solving puzzles - tons of atmosphere, detailed environments, etc... it might be worth giving Secret World Legends a look. In a self-imposed MMO exile for now. I have a ton of Steam and GOG games I want to get through. But ESO and SWL are two titles I'll likely hop back into at some point when I'm getting that hankering for a MMO experience again. And both are immensely better presented and more approachable than BDO. IMO, of course :)
there is a trick to stack almost (~400k) infinity amount of trash loot on horse, so you really dont need to buy weight limit. Anyone grinding allway use that trick
I played BDO for a solid 5 or 6 years, however I stopped becasue of 2 main reasons. The open world grind spots are contested, meaning you will have your grinding constantly interrupted. This might not be so bad if the PVP was between players with equal power levels but in my experience of probably thousands of encounters you will only have a real fight 5% of the time, the other 95% of the time you are either rolling over your opponent with impunity or getting rolled over with zero chance of winning. The second reason is one I could live if it was the only thing, which is the vertical progression, it is slow, expensive and involves item destruction and downgrades, it is not that bad becasue they have not increases the vertical climb since launch, but it gets painful at the very highest level of progression. Really though it is the PVP, it is stupid, sometimes very toxic and it is probably only enjoyable to someone sitting on the highest level of item power and skill.
It's interesting because nobody speaks about this issue. Like most of the problems are in the past and the current state of the game is perfect. Clearly these people never reach a +700gs and the struggle to split your farm session between 4 to 5 zones, and the pain of upgrade Disto. I have nightmares just thinking about the "DFS" word btw
Been waiting for people to finally recognize the MANY positive changes the game has gone through. Started in 2017 and haven't quit, the seasons add so much ease of access for new players, pets, mounts, inventory space and not to mention a pretty noteworthy gear base line to jump start your progression. Now with the Magnus system travel feels so much less burdensome and the universal storage it a gift from God himself. This game won most improved in the 2022 players choice awards and I couldn't agree more! The boss rush in LoTML is yet another positive change and I'm excited to see where they continue to take the game!
played the game for more than 4 years (since beta) and met my (now)husband in the game. Have good and very awful memories of it. In total? I spent more than 4k on costumes and Value packs, BUT I was a casual RPer, and the detrimental, and extremely toxic community killed all that that fun for me. It took me about 3 years to be full PEN, but I know that now it's probably a lot easier, AND cheaper to get that.
BDO is amazing on console, the whole community loves it but the only issue is that we hardly get any good contents or get the same events or rewards pc gets. The console community just feels like we’re getting left in the back corner, and it’ll really boost everyone’s enjoyment and interest high if we get more content. There’s a high number of players just dropping off of console and switching over to PC for mainly that reason. Just hope console doesn’t die out, because I myself spent hours n $$$ to get where I am in gear progression. The GMs we had before were amazing”TRENT and SHIRNA” after those guys were replaced we haven’t gotten any updates streams like how they usually host before every update. They kept the console community updated, entertained, and happy no matter what the updates were. most players usually are always happy and excited for Trent and SHIRNA’s stream, me and the little group I run with are usually pumped to see those guys because they’re hilarious 😂 hopefully PA can see how console players are in a bit of low morale right now and switching to pc because of these little things they call updates they throw at us 😂 MAKE CONSOLE GREAT AGAIN PA!!! We love the game hands down, BEST MMO GAME IVE PLAYED. Don’t forget about us PA 😂
Quite a few things in this video touted as improvements were actually present in the game since 8 years ago already. Like being able to sell costumes for a pitiful amount of max silver that wasn't worth it at all (just by logging into the game to collect your daily allowance you get more silver than what you'd get for selling a $30 costume). The P2W stuff was actually never really bad, because the game gave you a ton of crap just for logging in daily, including free costumes once a month and a dozen of inventory upgrades. You couldn't even stack the bonuses most of the time, because once you got farther into the game you just reach the hard caps on things like +gathering. Like the entire cash shop ultimatively was so meaningless that the only real power you could buy was the tent and the hedgehog eventually. I would argue that BDO is in the worst state it ever was in right now. Seasons have killed the game because it gave you gear for free that lets you skip 99% of the game's content. There is actually no reason to keep playing afterwards, because you essentially skipped almost all PvE content. Player retention is so bad right now because people will just quit after a season, because there's literally nothing to do thanks to that skip to PEN boss gear except play PvP NW and try to gear towards that with a super unreasonable upgrade. You don't even need to grind for silver anymore, because family fame gives you a +600m welfare thanks to all the lv63 characters you could just clone for free. The game has a great social aspect with lifeskills and all, but they have essentially made combat a pointless activity in the game. The only purpose combat even has in the game anymore is to complete the season, where you go from level 1 to 62 in 2 hours to finish it up. Afterwards you're not going to do any of the content in the new places because you have nothing realistic to upgrade towards to. All your money is fucking worthless too, because nobody puts anything on the market since you have to be clinically stupid with the hyperinflation that's been going on for years now. Great for PA sponsoring the video, but they've killed the game by handing free PEN boss gear to everyone after previously giving out free TRI boss gear already.
You forgot to mention the seasons and how you get full tet boss gear at the end along with maids, pets, outfits, an then you can do guarenteed pen boss gear questline. Also the magnus fast travel and free pen boss gear at the end.
It's a beautiful game but the days where I grind 10 hours at the same spot are long behind me. It just doesn't motivate me to play anymore cuz im a boomer now. BUT, if you like grind, if you wanna pop on some chill study music and smash mobs for hours, while looking badass, in whatever costume you want, this is the game for you 100%.
started playing this game 3 years ago, and i have so many value pack from daily log in rewards and events. i never use them because i don't feel the need to use them. just got 700gs yesterday playing 1~2hrs a day without spending any money on the gear ( i could get 700gs sooner if i just buy the gear instead of enhancing them myself lol ).
I used to love BDO, and I miss it. And while it is good to hear about these changes, there is still (or at least when I last checked) one thing that pushes me away. I love the lifeskills and the complexity of the game, but at the same time, it is overwhelming and for new (or long time absentees) there is just too much to take in, too many different currencies etc... Kind wish they'd have a "welcome back" tutorial or something... then again... I think I'll just wait for Crimson Desert...
i mean lifeskills especially if youre starting to get seriously into it will not be a easy thing to get into ever. it requires planning and time to process materials. there is an adventure book in game that you can search up cooking recipies and what not and there is guides everywhere for you to streamline the process. indepth systems such as a life skill system shouldn't be handed on a silver platter for brain dead people to consume and understand hence why its apart of the learning curve
Havent seen anyone mention this yet but there is a sort of "tutorial" available in game that goes over some of the various systems. It's called the Progression Pass. you can easily access it by just clicking the icon at the top of the UI. It is not a battle pass, as the entirety of the progression pass is free and it gives you step by step guides for quests, pve, life skills, enhancing (this one is especially useful, as it shows you the process to getting a "free" piece of PEN boss gear), general tips, and even rewards you for hitting certain milestones.
i'm coming back to BDO after a very long absence because i wanted to check out the new expansion. i must say, i don't even recognize the game! i started two new characters, one in LotML and another in Balenos. even the starting sequence and story progression is totally different. not sure what i think of it yet. maybe it will start to feel more familiar over time?
7k hours BDO player here. BDO has improved so incredibly much over the past years, one video doesn't do it justice. What I like most about BDO is that it's truly a sandbox MMO. In BDO you build your account, your family name so to speak. You can go about this in any way you want basically. There is so much to do and to progress, every little step counts towards something big. Best thing about this, it all stays relevant. Unlike most other MMO's where your gear or progress is being invalidated every 1/2 years, in BDO it actually matters in the long term. Acquire the current best main hand weapon for your class? Chances are it will still be the next couple years. There is no rush to anything. Go and progress at your own pace. Yes there are things you can buy from the store that get you ingame silver. So does WoW but at a much more accelerated pace. All the QoL things that you could purchase they give out for free many times during the year. The only thing that I would say is mandatory to buy is the Campsite, but only really at the endgame. With free discount coupons you're looking at a price of around 20-30 one time purchase. The game gets CONSTANTLY updated in the form of free expansions, weekly events, new classes being added, balancing almost on a weekly basis. There are 2 developer conventions held every year where they line out their plans for BDO in the next months/year. The game is like 10 bucks or 5 when it's on sale. Sometimes they even give it out for free. No reason not to give it a try if you're an MMO fan.
What always bothered me in the game and is the reason why i stoppede playing is the fact your weapons can break completely when failing to upgrade them. Is this still a thing?? I might Look into the game again because the combat is really fun.
@@vogelbert7082 it never have been a thing. Maybe you missunderstood it having 0 durability as being broken? because only accessory has a chance to break when you fail enchancements on it. with weapons and armour it loose durability and it also downgrades when you fail. You just need to repair the durability in the blacksmith and continue upgrading again after.
iv actually returned 2 months ago and been loving bdo again. never would of thought id be back but the overall quality of life has improved dramatically. its almost a totally different game
Bdo has dungeons
These seem less like “positive quality of life improvements” and more like the removal of things that were negatively affecting quality of life
That's true, but those design choices were pushed on them from a greedy publisher.
@@Mekose greedy publisher? Aren't they self published?
@mugenzero007 I mean kr itself oh ya daum did pulish but that was super early.
@@Sword.Strike oh wow, that is something... I'm glad they self published in the end, and eventually opened up a prt server (although I know that was kinda forced on them and it was the jpn server that started it). Like the game is slowly slowly moving in the right direction.
Wait. Is removing things that are negative are not positive improvements?
Unless they completely revamped PvE where you grind mind numbing circles for hours on end, it’s not competing with anything.
@@Babayugah mean, it's competing with every single other MMO in existence where you grind either mobs or dungeons to progress.
Is the best state them deleting your account? noty
And yet, I only ever see you standing around in Velia. So how would you know? xD - But I agree PA has done a very good job for a while.

The gameplay looks amazing
I have been having an absolute blast in BDO, since about a month ago. I was jumping back in after about 4-5 years.
Some things I really enjoy that they've changed/added:
-Level difference past 60 is essentially irrelevant. It used to be that you'd just "miss" your attacks if your friend or dueling partner was even a single level higher, that is NOT a thing anymore. Level doesn't mean much at all, now.
-The story is now much shorter, if you choose to start with LoML or MoEW
-You get 5 free pets to auto-loot by just completing your story and quests
-Crystals are now socketed in a global account storage, instead of in gear, allowing you to use them across other characters
-Season servers are gear capped and you can go from level on a new account, to level 61 with 245 AP and 310 DP, in a week; you can also stay on this server and grind--knowing that there is a gear cap and no one else will be above you (yes, for those of you who are "in the know", you will need a good Crystal setup, journals, and buffs for it to be fully equalized; all things that are achievable by a new player).
-Season servers also give you a free IV boss gear
-You get a free PEN (V) boss gear from the Magnus questline
-Speaking of Magnus, you can use it to teleport from city to city; essentially going to the other side of the map in mere minutes; along with having remote storage access, from any town
-You get a free costume from quests--no need to buy one from the MTX store
-Events and attendance rewards now give an insane amount of rewards--including anything you'd need, other than the one item I mention at the end of this post.
The ONE item you'll need to buy to play BDO:
Naphart Campsite -- It will allow you to remotely repair your gear, buy potions, and grab Villa buffs, all from your campsite, that you can deploy anywhere.
ESO+ is $15/month tho...
@@rePAULsion You need to buy the expansions tho...
Tbh the campsite is really not that needed you can just craft an anvil and old moon shop it does the same except for the villa
How to say your working for the company without saying it.
BDO is in a really good spot right now, but sadly there's a lot of players who played the game years ago and left with a bad impression. PA (the devs) have done a tremendous amount of quality of life changes in the past 3 or so year, especially since they split from Kakao. Some things not mentioned:
- Ghillie Suit.

Everything I read, I agree. Also, that is why Crimson Desert is going to be a massive overhaul (revamp) to the game.

Honestly I’ve been tempted to go back and play. Grinding in circles on my Striker is way more fun than doing Diablo 4 Nightmare Dungeons.
Edit: And I’m a Diablo fanatic!

"I started playing in the summer of last year i have 1k hours and 640 gs, I haven't spent a dime on this game"
That's just badform, my man. That's a lot of time spent in the game to not have given anything in return to the devs.
Awesome video! As a passionate fan of the game it sometimes feels unfair to see people still talk about bad parts of the game that have long been fixed. Like others have said the game is truly the best version it has ever been right now

The Best KR mmorpg we will ever play in our lifetime. Nothing will beat the 2016 BDO or 2023 BDO.
Well done update, I had no clue about most of this stuff. This video actually made me ponder about jumping back in for the first time in years. 👍
I still cannot believe it's the same game, when it's so so so so so much more convinient and easy to navigate right now.
so is the game good now? shld i give it a try?
@@vadim6656Sure why not. Just dont touch the store and see how you like the game. No reason not to at least try since the box cost is so low
@@MrCarlWax ive downloaded it on my samsung s9 tab and pc. cant wait to get some free time. thanks for the reply carl
To be honest this is accurate, Rather to grind gears for upgrade mats, instead i grind silvers(Watch some rotation online) to buy those gears since grinding was really hellish and gonna take you month or "year." Thats why i wish Someone will Rival BDO(maybe they will adjust aspect of the game due to rival they have.)
i have 329 ap and i buy all my gear lol
But seriously.. it's a video game.. what matters is you enjoying the game, don't let others say otherwise.. it's your experience not them.
@@sweetbabyrayso5262 i have like 15 bis piece of gears lol 329 ap 392 dp
Stopped playing BDO at around 2021 ish maybe time to check it out again
BDO is not a sprint, but a leisurely Marathon. (casually waiting for all the "R spammers to bitch and whine)
The QoL improvements, the free pets and inv for new players could see them with a menagerie of T3 pets, possibly even a T4 or T5, if the odds fall their way.
After these changes I might finally try this game out.
Agreed
Lack of big PvE in the game was the reason I avoided this game, good to hear they are working on it, might try it soon.
It has come a long way and getting better and better, as a vriety player i have a hard time finding any other MMOs offering what bdo offers, you have a lot of ways to play it and your end game is simply your end game and possibly different from other players.
This game is 10 years old, holy crap, time flies
Thanks to *Throne & Liberty* I came back to play BDO again. This is one of the games that I came back to from time to time. (I just quit years ago cuz I don't had much time to grind).
For me BDO is one of the most satisfying combat system in MMO genre.
The main issue in BDO for me was the p2w and how eveyry sytem i used in the game had some form of annoyance that would only disappeared if you payed.
If anyone quit before they added all those quality of life improvements in 2022, you should really come back to check it out. I was shocked how productive the dev team has been the last couple years.
Most of them were already available in 2020 when I started the game.
The BDO Keystrikes are absolutely the best in the entire genre. It's fluid, it feels like playing Piano (in a good way - I can't play the piano at all and struggle with big toolbars)
They also have a ton of rotating events and log in rewards that occasionally give outfits that can be sold used or broken down for crons
oh wow I had no idea they split with Kakao. I only ever played very casually, but always thought it was very fun and immersive. Maybe I'll hop into the new area with a fresh character. Marketing dollars well spent!
This actually makes me want to try out the game, never got it before because I heard things about the game...
Yooo BDO CONTENT!? lesgoo
Bdo has been my main mmo for a couple of years now and it's such a fantastic game that gets better every patch 😁
Is there an updated beginner's guide out there you'd recommend? I want to get back to playing BDO, but get super confused on what I need to do.
Think I may try this game out. Really been feeling the mmo genre lately
Where did you get that shirt my dude?! Also good video - bdo is a nice summer vacation every year for a week or two.
am back also BDO new content is kinda nice am enjoying it totaly different
Also with the remastered updates, they overhauled the ui and menus plus added some new graphics settings for high end pc to turn up for better visuals.
2016 is a bit too late considering BETA was in 2014. I was a closed BETA tester in 2014 then went into open BETA in December 2015. 🤗
I won't ever forget the date because it's also the year and month I got divorced and my escape into BDO helped me through that rough patch.
Got a BDO ad just before this vid. Those dang algos having a laugh... XD
Every time I try it, it's like "look at this game with all this stuff you can do but we'll make it an absolute headache to actually figure out how to do any of it..."
I keep at it.. keep trying to find information in-game...
Any mmo you recommend?
@@FireHill20
In the context of my feelings toward BDO?
@@twocatsgaming6628 thank you
was a year one player myself just coming back
there is a trick to stack almost (~400k) infinity amount of trash loot on horse, so you really dont need to buy weight limit.
I sunk so many years into this game. Its pretty great!
What seasons, he didnt even mention it. shit reviev.
played the game for more than 4 years (since beta) and met my (now)husband in the game.
Best mmo ever human KIND created for 7 years still best in genre mother of ALL mmos BLACK DESERT ONLINE.
The game is in the best state ever, and I'm not paid by PA to say this. Seriously, give it a try. It is amazing!

Hey force, will you be covering/ playing Remnant 2?
I do the same thing, I binge this game for about a month straight and then drop it for 8 months.
Is the land of morning light on console as of june 2023?
started playing this game 3 years ago, and i have so many value pack from daily log in rewards and events. i never use them because i don't feel the need to use them.
just got 700gs yesterday playing 1~2hrs a day without spending any money on the gear ( i could get 700gs sooner if i just buy the gear instead of enhancing them myself lol ).
This is what Throne and Liberty should have been like
You can kinda fast travel from town to town now with magnus
then you must love the infamous upgrade system too , if its still the same?
It's the same but you can buy every item fully upgraded from the market.
I hope we got a second video about the thing that keeps almost all of us suck in the game, the PVP
There is stuff to help returning players, but it's still a lot to take in.
seasonal servers are really good, as a returning player
i mean lifeskills especially if youre starting to get seriously into it will not be a easy thing to get into ever. it requires planning and time to process materials. there is an adventure book in game that you can search up cooking recipies and what not and there is guides everywhere for you to streamline the process.
indepth systems such as a life skill system shouldn't be handed on a silver platter for brain dead people to consume and understand hence why its apart of the learning curve
Havent seen anyone mention this yet but there is a sort of "tutorial" available in game that goes over some of the various systems. It's called the Progression Pass. you can easily access it by just clicking the icon at the top of the UI. It is not a battle pass, as the entirety of the progression pass is free and it gives you step by step guides for quests, pve, life skills, enhancing (this one is especially useful, as it shows you the process to getting a "free" piece of PEN boss gear), general tips, and even rewards you for hitting certain milestones.
what brand is that t-shirt force is wearing?
Will you cover Tarisland CBT?
i'm coming back to BDO after a very long absence because i wanted to check out the new expansion. i must say, i don't even recognize the game! i started two new characters, one in LotML and another in Balenos. even the starting sequence and story progression is totally different. not sure what i think of it yet. maybe it will start to feel more familiar over time?
Right now it is my main MMO.
Should probably talk about how they deleted everyone's account without our consent.
iv actually returned 2 months ago and been loving bdo again. never would of thought id be back but the overall quality of life has improved dramatically. its almost a totally different game
OMFG - Black Desert Online is Unrecognizable - What a F.. joke!!!

A PVE only server would have and still would make this game great. It's why this game never broke through as a major MMORPG player.
